Red-Crowned Kakariki Species Profile
Traits:  Kakarikis do like cuddling as much as other pet birds — they are too active, extremely animated and curious about everything. They will get into everything, so an owner needs to be extra careful of the bird's whereabouts when it is not in its cage, and ensure there are no hazards in or near the bird's living area. They are playful and entertaining and love to be around their owners.

Behavior/Health Concerns:  Kakarikis seem to be susceptible to aspergillosis. Some kakariki owners have also reported seizures and/or strange trances with their pets, a behavior that seems to be normal in this species. They tend to be curious and open to trying new foods. Care should be taken to ensure their environment is warm, but not too warm.

Expert Advice
"Kakarikis are very active birds that never stop moving. They run and hop about making soft noises while they investigate everything. Although not cuddly birds since they prefer not to be touched, they are sensitive to their [owner’s feelings]."
