Traits: Star finches are social birds that should be kept in a flock setting with other star finches. They are friendly, beautiful birds with a pleasant disposition, which makes them popular as pets. While star finches are not shy around people, they are birds to observe and appreciate.
Behavior/Health Concerns: Star finches are active and need a large cage or aviary that is so they can fly around. If kept in a cage, the bars should be no further apart than 1/4 inch to prevent a star finch from getting stuck. Star finches may need regular nail trim,s as their nails tend to grow quickly. They require a varied diet and plenty of opportunities to bathe, which they love. Because star finches can be sensitive to temperature changes, they should not be kept in a living area that is less than 55 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
