Turquoisine Parakeet Species Profile
Traits:  Along with the scarlet-chested parakeets, the turquoisine parakeets are temperamental and quirky in nature. They are one of the most active grass parakeets, constantly moving around their aviary from flying to running or feeding. .

Behavior/Health Concerns:  Provide the turquoisine parakeet with fruits, eggfood, multi-grain bread and other fresh vegetables, especially fresh greens. These pet birds can be fragile and need additional attention to ensure a healthy lifestyle. As a pair, turquoisine parakeets may feud. The males have a burgundy wingbar, whereas the female does not. Females are less colorful overall. The yellow mutation is the most popular, even more so than the original coloration. Other turquoisine mutations include opaline, full red-fronted and cinnamon.

Expert Advice

“Some people say they are harder to breed than the scarlet-chested, but that has not been true for me. In fact, they are hardier than the scarlet-chested and just as easy to breed. I think their color is just as striking as the scarlet-chested."

Melinda Schmitz, owner of Anza’s Australian Beauties aviaries
