Traits: Kakarikis are not known for liking to cuddle — they are too active, extremely animated and curious about everything. They tend to get into everything, so an owner needs to be extra careful of the yellow-fronted kakariki’s whereabouts when it is not in its pet bird cage, and ensure there are no hazards in or near the bird's living area. They are playful and entertaining and love to be around their owners.
Behavior/Health Concerns: Kakarikis seem to be susceptible to aspergillosis. Some kakariki owners have also reported seizures and/or strange trances with their pets, a behavior that seems to be normal in this species. Because kakarikis are so curious, they tend to be open to trying new foods, which helps them to maintain a well-balanced psittacine diet. Care should be taken to ensure their environment is warm, but not too warm.
