Bill and Coo, featured film, 1948, lovebirds
Bill and Coo is a 1948 featured film starring lovebirds Bill and Coo.

Bill and Coo: (film) A 1948 full-color feature film that starred birds as residents of the fictional town of Chirpendale. According to IMDb.com, the 60-minute film won an honorary Academy Award and held the world record for the smallest film set. It was directed by writer/actor Dean Riesner, who passed away in 2002. The screen play was written by Dean Riesner and Royal Foster. The stars, two lovebirds named Bill and Coo, are part of the Burton’s Bird crew, trained by George Burton. You can see him in the prologue before the movie. Pet bird people will probably be fascinated (and perhaps a little horrified) by the film as it is a full hour of birds -- mostly parrots, some without tail feathers, doing tricks and pretending to be people. I found a 6-minute tour of Chirpendale on YouTube for those of you that don’t have much time, but also found a link for the Bill and Coo full-length feature. The premise is that lovebirds Bill and Coo are in love but must resolve the problem of the town “menace” played by a black crow.
