Bird Term Of The Day: "Polly Wants A Cracker"

Definitions of words used by pet bird enthusiasts with the pet bird slant.

blue-and-gold macaw
Parrots might like a cracker every now and then, but they need a well-balanced diet.

"Polly wants a cracker": (common phrase) This saying is well known and has been around for more than 100 years. It was used in Robert Lewis Stevenson’s novel, "Treasure Island," which was published in 1883. It was also used in the beginning of a 1937 Warner Bros. cartoon titled, “I Wanna Be A Sailor." (See video below.) More recently it was used in the lyrics of the band Nirvana’s song called “Polly” (which is not about a bird).

WOW .. I remember .. Thank you. Guess I am older than I feel. My favorite were the 2nd war bugs bunny toons. Dig some of those up so I can turn Hey Joe, Little Wing, & VC (Voodoo Child) - my 3 parrots, onto. I know they would enjoy
