 UPDATE ON LEE-ROIAL Feb 23, 2010... Lee-Roial was acting very strange last night, when I went to give her her medication. She was holding onto her cage with her beak and she could not stand on her perch, something which was always difficult, but she COULD do it. Last night, she was lying on her stomach,her legs limp underneath her fragile body. I kept her warm, I held her, I did everything possible to make her comfortable. In the morning, I took her to the vet as soon s they opened. The vet examined her, and said she had fluid on her lungs and her breathng was a little labored. She was put on oxygen and I came home... scrubbed all the cages to keep busy, and await a phone call from the vet. He did call, and said I can take her home - she seems stable. I was on my way to the clinic, and missed another call from them. When I walked in, I knew something was not right. Lee-Roial was still alive, but going downhill. I asked to hold her and she was brought to me almost right away. As soon as I saw her, I knew I had to make a decision, and I knew I could not let her suffer anymore. The vet asked me to tell her when I was ready, and I told her I would never be ready, but I knew what had to be done. I held her and talked to her and she made her sounds to me, as if to say she understood. I held her and talked to her the entire time, while the vet gave her the needle, which took about 10 minutes to take its full effect. I am a complete basket case - totally numb. I am so thankful I have other birds here, or there is no way I could cope. I came home to give the rest of the flock their supper, and I told them Lee is gone. It is going on 10PM now, only about 4 hours from when we left the vet clinic. I need to try and get some rest. I cannot think straight. I know I did what I had to do...and I also know that Lee-Roial had just over a year of knowing what it is to be loved and cared for, while she was with me. I only wish I had been given some signs, to be able to catch her illness earlier.
ANOTHER YEAR HAS COME AND GONE... WE ARE IN ANOTHER HOME NOW AND LEE'S PRESENSE IS HERE, AS STRONG AS EVER. I WILL NEVER STOP MISSING HER. THE GREY SIZED HOLE IN MY HEART WILL NEVER CLOSE COMPLETELY. LEE, LIKE ALL THE PARROTS WHO ARE IN THE FLOCK, MADE A SPECIAL IMPRESSION, ONE THAT WILL LIVE ON FOREVER. (Feb 2013). |

Dearest Angel Lee-Roial...
Sunny here :). Heartfelt thanks for remembering Comet and leaving a beautiful post on his page. Both became angels on the same day and now fly free at Rainbow Bridge. Yes, mom was so sad and cried many tears yesterday as did your mom. Their suffering ended and ours began. Memories never die and will live in our hearts forever and always :). I am doing well and I take good care of mom! She spoils me rotten and calls me her little princess and sweetest pea! Gosh, how did we manage to find such good moms? We are so blessed!

Mom was also upset by Star's passing, and we don't know why. I used to blog with Bluebell almost every day, but they aren't on BC as much as they used to be, so we haven't really heard anything.
Today mom worked on the squirrel porch, which has one squirrel, lots of possums, and a few pigeons. Then she did the avian nursery, which has not only birds, but 3 box turtles! She also got to play with and clean up after Quincy and Dan Quail, the bobwhites who live in the office. This was a fun morning to be at the center, the guys were there replacing the broken furnace with a new one, so everyone had to work around the workmen, too. They were fascinated with the animals, though. Don't forget to give our wild friends a taste of Thanksgiving tomorrow, in the form of seed, suet, fruit, or whatever else you feed the wild creatures in your yard. We are sad to hear about Star's passing (164432), as she's part of a flock we love, and also Dudley's passing, as he was a new member of a flock we love as well. We know you, Divo and the rest of the angels welcomed them to the bridge, though. Mom is going to buy bird food for the outside birds today, after she swims and finishes buying the groceries for Thanksgiving. We're only feeding 9 this year, so it should be a piece of cake. Mom is working tonight at the museum, too, in a temporary exhibit called Empowering Women. She is looking forward to it. We'll let you know how it goes. Yes, some bonds are stronger than others. I bonded with dad the first day I met him. Who knew that I would be with him as long as I have been. Almost 26 years. Dad and Sunny's bond also started the first day they met. It's as if there was a plan in the works to put them together.

It is perfectly fine if you don't respond right away. And you know what a good way to finish up your blogs quick is? Just write "thank you for the hatchday wishes" or something like that, then copy it and then paste it into the next birdie's page. :) this is especially helpful if you have a hatchday or get BOTD.

Hi Lee-Roial,
Its okay, my mom gets like that too. But she has this bell called a Furin Bell, its an oriental thing.
That what it is is when a loved one has pass they ring this metal bell with the tag on to let the living loved ones know that the spirit of the passed loved ones are still around. They ring the bell to let the parronts know that they are okay and that they are loved too. :)
Let me know if your momma would like one of those bells, it might help your mom to know that when the bell rings that will be you telling your mom that you are near and that you love her. :)
You can email my mom at garpookie@gmail.com and she will send your mommy a bell. Make sure your mom puts your name in the subject and that she writes your mailing address so my mom can send it to your mom.
My mom says its a way of healing and a part of grieving too. Sometimes when all the chimes are going off mom knows that its all the Angel birds coming to visit her. :)
Only time will heal your mom's broken heart and she will never forget you. You will always be in her heart like I am in my moms. :)

Who would ever think that a human and a bird could bond so cloely. Your mom and you were very close and so was Sunny and my dad. I don't think that dad will ever get over losing Sunny. But memories are a good thing. That means that your mom will never forget you and still loves you very much.
It was good to see you again. I wish we could all be thgether again but we all have to wait til the time is right. We will be together again.

My mom totally understands your mom's tears. She still cries for her cat Samson sometimes, and it has been over three years. Dad says I had better outlive her, because she would be a total basket case....well, you get it. Keep watching over your mom, because she is a very special lady. Hello; Sky here wishing all my friends TGIF. As promised today we are getting ready to head off into the heart of the Peruvian rainforest as we explore the beauty and mystery of the Tambopato River, located south east of Maldonado Peru.
We will travel through the most beautiful, most untamed territory as we explore, the home of the world's largest Macaw Clay lick. While there we will meet hundreds of parrots, Macaws and other parakeet species that daily frequent the 130' cliffs along the Tambopato River's western banks.
So, come TOMORROW, NOVEMBER 9th between 6-9PM EASTERN time as we head south to the Collpa Colorado Clay-Licks located in the Tambopato National Reserve.
