Charlie's previous owner [Howard] died at the age of 91. No one in his family wanted the bird. He was going to be DESTROYED! A lady that lived near Charlie offered to take him. When she got him he had plucked his chest feathers and had been gorging himself on sunflower seeds. She changed the birds diet and over the next seven months Charlie had regained his plumage. But she was moving to her mother's house and there was no room for Charlie. My husband and I ran across an ad reading: need help re homing. After many emails about our own birds we arranged to meet him. He talked up a storm being nervous about the new people in his house. My husband was holding Charlie on his perch when Charlie walked to the end of the stick and put his beak around his finger. "No," said my husband calmly as his finger began to bleed. Charlie was testing him but he held onto the perch and Charlie let go making all sorts of funny sounds. He passed the test, (he had practice with Oliver :) We feel more than blessed to give this old man a home, he surprises us everyday. Charlie is enjoying his retirement here and has figured out the place pretty good. I don't know if he hears the other birds but somehow he always knows when food is being made in the house, it's like he can see through walls!.

Hi! My name is Charlie

I am a Yellow-Naped Amazon from Sun Valley, NV.

They call me Howard but that's not my name!

61 years old   M

Yellow-Naped Amazon

Papaya, almonds, banana, pecan, bread, cherrios w/ milk, cran-grape juice, nutriberries

On top of my nice safe cage, in my own peaceful room.

Getting tricked by Dad. He puts my perch on top of his arm and next thing you know I'm on his arm, how did I get here! Scary, grrrrrr.

They've given me a forever home, no limbo for this old timer!

If you are eating I will ask you for some "Howard!" Howard was my previous owner and he was good at sharing..

HOWARD! DO DO DO DO!!.

Happy endings are great. I'm not 91, but 21 years I'm sure will go very quickly (I'm 70). I will have to rehome birds at some point and haven't figured out how I will do that. : ) I love them and they are like my kids. How do you give them up and where do you start and how do you choose when you have 14 birds that you love to pieces? I am very concerned. My brother is home with the birds all day but will not be able to keep/care for them when I am gone. I still work 50 hrs a week and no retirement in sight. Hopeful that I will be able to take care of all of us for a long time but you never know. Charlie is so very lucky to have found a haven with you. Kind regards!

Come visit me, Sunshine, RAJA 1997-2007, Paquita, Gracie (RIP June 9, 2012), Tango, Kermit, Captain, Tigger (RIP August 2010) and Rascal, Cricket, Rio, Greyson, Nikki, Angel, Peaches (deceased 7-26-08) very sad & Misty.
