 I had a Lady Gouldian finch and was looking for a new cage for him. I went into the pet store and she flew over to my shoulder. I put her back in the cockatiel pen (it had an open top), she flew back a second time to my shoulder, then I gave her back to the store clerk. She jumped from her shoulder back to me. They say three times is a charm....I decided or maybe I should say SHE decided that I was going to be owned by a cockatiel. ....never did find the finch cage that I went after. Instead I ended up buying Sissy, a new cage for her and all of her supplies!. |

Oatie here. I am so very happy you are safe. Now I guess there's snow and that's just as bad. We got just a few storms but nothing awful at all.We'd really like more rain. They are telling us that by Thurs we should be up to 80! Sounds like we'll be planting a garden real soon. YAY!

Wow, I'm so happy you can fly. I know you must be loving it, because I love to fly too. It's wonderful to have that freedom.
Pepper and I are having tons of aviary time together. For a few days it seemed to be working out with Poirot and Pepper together, but now Pepper chases him away from where ever he perches and Poirot is a bit intimidated by him. I' not allowed to eat from Pepper's bowl, but I can sit very close to him and preen. It's nice to have a friend out there.
We've got a couple of small humans staying here for a few weeks. The younger one is doing tricks with me and I'm liking the attention and extra food. I'll be sad when she's gone.

Dear Sissy,
I hope you've had a wonderful Christmas. I am so excited that you've grown your wings and gained the freedom of flight. Isn't it wonderful?
My skin has been doing pretty well lately. I do get spots where it's raw, but they go away quickly. My appetite is phenomenal. I fill up on my supper then spend the rest of the evening sneaking into Poirot's cage for scraps. Mama's been flying me more lately. I go into the other room and fly all the way back to my cage. Sometimes I'm taken downstairs and fly back.
Did you get the link to our e-card/movie this morning? Mama has been having the hardest time sending it out. I'll have her send it again if it didn't go through.
Mama has some new pictures of us to share with your mom. Actually, they're mostly of Pepper. I'm going to make sure she sends them to you tomorrow.

Wishing You a MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Sissy! I'm so excited to hear that you're enjoying the thrill of flighted wings. There's nothing quite as exciting as flying, is there? Okay, millet's right up there on the "awesome" list. Sounds like the arrangement you have at Shirley's place is pretty sweet- getting to hang out with Sugar, seeing Mama on occasion AND flying privileges. I'm so happy for you.
Life here's been pretty good. Of course, I'm in the house now which means a lot less space for flying but at least I still have my flight feathers. Last year at this time, Mom had gotten fed up with all eight of us lining up on top of the closet doors every time they were opened and being ornery about getting off when the doors needed to be shut. She get a couple of us picked up and moved to somewhere else but by the time a couple more were moved away, the first two were back up there. It was a hopeless situation. Sooooo, off went our flight feathers. (And then we resorted to sitting in the ferns and tearing those apart which didn't win us any points either.) This year, we've done better about staying off the closet doors though not out of those ferns. Mom's not figured out who's plucking those poor plants to pieces. She does know it's not me and Gonzo... we were the only 'tiels out the last couple of days and not a frond was bit off. (We two do try to be good!)
There haven't been any eggs laid since we all moved indoors. Give it time... the days are now growing longer (Happy First Day of Winter, by the way)... we'll all be thinking about nests before long!

Grover here, believe it or not. Quite honestly, I'm not believing it! I've had so few opportunities to write on the BC this summer. The rare time I am here, it's just been to sign in on the baseball page the days the 'Tiel Terrors have a game. (Like today.)
I wonder how you're doing and if perhaps you're still hanging out at the neighbor's place. Heard you'd made friends with the little fellow that lives there as well. Cute, is he?
It's been a good summer for me. My flight feathers have finally grown in. It took long enough! I was starting to wonder if it was going to happen before Fall came and I had to move back into the house. That would've been a bummer. With today the coolest I've felt since way back in early spring, I'm thinking I'd better take advantage of this fully-flighted privilege and fly, fly, fly before the chance is over for the season.
Hope your summer's gone well and that you're happy and healthy.

It's Grover! Shock of all shocks!! I'M the lucky one to get some BC time today and I'm taking full advantage of it by flying by your page to say "HELLO!" and inquire as to your happiness. Kelly tells me that you are 'summer camping' it at the moment, in the company of the kindly neighbor 'Tiel. I do hope you're having a pleasant time there. I'm at "summer camp" sort of myself, living in the Bird Barn now that it's warm enough. There were a couple of nights back in early spring when I had to wonder if I hadn't jumped the gun on moving my things out to the BB. It got downright cool at night several times! An infrared heater was hung up but because it wasn't near where I prefer to sleep, I didn't opt to sit next to the warmth. There was even one time that mom gathered all us 'tiels up and carted us back into the house for about three days because she was tired of worrying about us being warm enough at night. Of course now that's not a concern. I'm keeping busy with leafy branches and bunches of grass that are hung or tied around the place. I can make it look like an early fall in here in no time with leaves falling all over the place. Little by little my flight feathers are coming back. Mom vowed not to trim my wings next winter as they don't grow back in time for the move to the barn in the spring. I'm having to do a lot of climbing or hop-hop-hopping from branch to branch to get up to the higher places I like to perch. Guess it's good exercise, but I'd much prefer to fly for exercise! Much easier!

Well, well, would you look at all the visitors your frother's got today! Thought I'd stop in here and have a chat till the line for voting thins down a bit. So, how are you these days? Any eggs in your life right now? None here. The box that Gonzo had chosen for a nest box was overtaken by a pushy little parakeet so we're having to wait till mom builds us some additional ones. I suppose the 'keets will want the newer real estate. Little buggers. With the reappearance of the sun (it's been missing now for what seems like a week), I'm back out in the barn, working to remove all the leaves and bark from a branch that feel out of a cottonwood tree. It looks like fall in here already!
Well, suppose I'll head on over to Grady's, share a vote with the handsome grey guy. He'll be talkin' up a storm today, I bet, what with all the guests he's got visiting him.

Aww, Sissy, That's Okay
You helped get me into that Winner's Window. I appreciate that SO much. The extra millet that was hung about the birdroom was sure a surprise on Thursday. Millet Day is not normally until Saturday. Now I'm all confused about which day it really is because our Saturday millet wasn't put out today. Mom says she's saving it for tomorrow since we just had a whole bunch a couple of days ago. The egg noodles with red palm oil were a tasty substitute. I'm looking forward to tomorrow though. Looking forward to your next note too! Oat Groats! Those are tasty things, aren't they. Some of this flock go for those first thing when they're served. I birdinally love the sunflowers seeds the best. After millet, of course. Yum!
So you're still at Winter Camp (that's the opposite of Summer Camp). Imagine that you're really enjoying the company of other 'Tiels. I'd feel lost and lonely without my Gonzo-Girl and my other siblings. We're a happy bunch of 'Tiels. And yes, Gonzo and I are celebrating our hatchday next week. Hope there's a pile of millet reserved for that day tucked away around here somewhere. Being fully-flighted now, you should fly up and join us for the feast. I'd bring you some but my flight feathers are not yet grown in completely. They're gettin' there, slow, slow, slow but sure. They better hurry... only about 8 weeks before warmer weather starts teasing us. I wanna be ready to fly in the Bird Barn come the first nice day.
Sissy, if I might ask a favor of you. Tomorrow is a special day here on the BC for me. I was nominated to go for that BOTW Award but since it's since been retired, I'm going to try for just the Bird of the Day award TOMORROW. Hello Sissy!
How does this find my cockatiel friend during these mid-winter days? I guess I'm not even sure if your'e back home now. Surely you are; I can't imagine that your mom could stand to have you away too long. How's the egg-laying hobby? Any luck with there being a couple 'real ones'? There's been a hint of interest in nest preparing here among some of the 'Tiels. Mom promptly removed the box and the cozy corner it created in hopes of postponing that desire. Come spring and our move to the Bird Barn, the couples will be allowed to have their nest boxes. Of course the eggs will soon be replaced with plastic replicas but that's supposed to be a secret that only I'm aware of. Poor gals... hoping that something comes of all their patient work of keeping those eggs warm.
