continued That vets would would very much frown on. Poco was an older bird (my family estimated his age at ove 6 when we got him) and we had him for over 21 years. The doctors that we took him to when he got sick could not belive his age until they saw old pictures of me and him. Poco looked the same but I grew from a 5 year old boy to a 26 year old man and was getting married. Cedric's breeder (Bird Nanna) told us that Canary winged parakeets were getting rare and that the last ones she saw, (hers) was several years ago and she sold them for alot of money. Enjoy Tiki and don't be surprised if he is your best friend for a very, very long time.Come visit me, Cedric.

Hey. The "white things" on his head are probably pin feathers. New feathers that grow in are covered in a white sheath. The ones that he can reach he can preen himself, but on his head he'll need a little help. Just gently scratch his head, and you'll see the white coming off like dandruff. He'll probably enjoy it, they're itchy. The larger feathers you see in the bottom may just be normally molted feathers. Just watch him. If you see any bald patches, then he may be plucking. But most likely he's molting. I think Skittles molts more than any of my other birds. He never has any bald or thinning spots, but the floor of his cage nearly always has a bunch of feathers on it. As far as bathing, you can continue what you're doing. Some birds just aren't huge bathers. Come visit me, Lucky, Crash, Hooter, Cocky~ In Memoriam, Kumquat, Turtle, Sky, Skittles, Cricket, Gorgeous, Kiwi, Indy & Pickles.

Hi there. How long ago did you get Tiki? It takes some time, a couple weeks mimimum, usually, for a new bird to calm down and feel more comfortable. Is he handfed? Does he step up? At the beginning, Skittles would bite hard enough to draw blood. I just kept calm and kept working on getting him to step up on command. He's still not exactly where he loves to come out or anything, but that's more my fault. I have a lot of birds, and I just don't have the time to work as much as I should with him, especially when he clearly doesn't enjoy it. When I put my hand in the cage he will jump on it readily. He's fearful of being petted, until I tuck him close to my body so that I can give him a good preening. He does love that, I can tell, as much as he complains beforehand. He will also take food from my hand, and he does like it when I have an extended talking session with him. He knows several words and phrases and he gets excited when I through his vocabulary with him. I don't cover him at night, or any of my birds, but I live in south Florida, and it rarely gets cold. As far as the light issue, the room is lit more with sunshine than anything else, so it starts getting dark for them fairly early. Covering your guy may help him feel more comfortable. Just remember to stay relaxed when you work with him, don't let his nervousness rub off on you. Come visit me, Lucky, Crash, Hooter, Cocky~ In Memoriam, Kumquat, Turtle, Sky, Skittles, Cricket, Gorgeous, Kiwi, Indy & Pickles.
