Im so glad you got the nandays how can anyone say that about any parrot being just a cheap 25 parrot. Wouldn't trade any of my babies for all the money in the world. Lol Baby loves my husband the best she likes us but you can see it in her eyes when he comes in lol. My parakeets were give to me there owners couldn't keep them one was from my niece Baby was give to us her owner couldn't take care of her any more. I love them all. Just a hint of what's in Pittsburgh! Oh, Tooth's moms will be here around Sept. 21, so if your folks want to meet them, come around then.
What a ball game yesterday! Congratulations to the Phoenix Base Flyers, you pulled off a great win, but the Rainforest Raiders have nothing to be ashamed of. With the way they're playing, they won't lose many games this year.
Mom had 3 tours today, and she says if you have to have 3, this is the way to go: she had different grade levels and different subjects for each tour. We got the fountain up and running last night, too, so it looks pretty outside now, and we'll be able to hear the water when we go outside with mom. Today it's bright and sunny so we might get out, if mom gets our blogs done in time. Hey Capt.
Mom tries to buy for us, but it's hard to know if all those foods are really safe. I think Carol keeps up with a lot of things, though. Oh, when your folks come here, they'll probably meet Carol and Jinky (Gus and Chichi's mom). That was a close game, too bad we couldn't pull off the win! Congrats to the Wonder Wings for a well played game, though. Mom has 2 tours today, but they're widely separated, one at 11:20 and the next at 1:40. That means she won't get home til after 3:15, so we may be late for the game today. I hope we can get outside for awhile, though, because it's gorgeous out there, and mom still has some flowers to plant. She put in a painted fern a couple of days ago. She bought it because she thought one died. When she went to plant this one, the other one was up and thriving! So now we have 2, which is okay with us. Hey Capt.
Wow, mom would love to meet mom Rose and that whole flock. Your mom should have a nice meeting, don't you think? It was cold here for 2 days, with frost warnings at night, but today it's 82 degrees! Mom is hoping to plant those things she got last Friday, at last! I want to go to the game though, there are 2 good teams playing today.
This morning mom did a repeat of Monday, complete with raccoons painting themselves and their cages with food. The red tailed hawk stood between mom and its meal leftovers this morning, which she has never seen in all her years there. At noon she went to the museum to hear an assistant curator of vertebrate paleontology, Matt LaManna, talk about early birds from the Cretaceous, and learned a whole lot about our origins. It seems modern bird lines arose in Antarctica! It makes sense, the birds there were already used to harsh conditions and extended periods of dark. Anyway, it was a pretty cool lecture, and the docents might get a cast out of it! Mom asked Matt if they could have a cast of gansus for the dinosaur hall, and he said send him an email and he'd get one made!

Our azaleas are blooming now, finally! Mom is doing an outdoor event today for the wildlife center, and it's raining. The weather guessers said it would end by 9, but guess what? Mom's good any time after Labor Day, she's retired, too. You might not realize it for as much as she works, but truly, she is retired...Mom put Chelsea Possum's pic up finally! Also, on all of our pages, you can see pics of our flowers out front. Some are the tulips that are just fading now, the rest are the new baskets and a succulent garden that mom is experimenting with for the summer, hoping to take it in this fall. Mom is actually off tomorrow! She traded tomorrow with next Friday, for an earlier day off, but she and her sis will be gone for part of the day, buying more flowers. But, the rest of the day will be ours! Hope you are having a great day. Today mom did a tour for kids from Potter County, so they must have left home around 6:30 to be at the museum by 10. It's really far away. They loved the dinosaurs, and even the teacher took a ton of pictures. It was their first visit to the Carnegie museum! Then mom stopped to pick up stuff for the Italian dinner tomorrow evening for Nghi's parents. They canceled today because they had to fill out some paperwork. Hope you are having a great day! Please remind us of Parrot Palooza as the time gets closer, mom really wants to go. Mom is reading the Pickles book and laughing out loud at some parts. That means she is hearing Willie and Giz laugh too. I don't laugh with her though, I don't see what's so funny. Mom ended up in Invertebrate zoology and botany on Sunday, but she likes both areas, and all she had to do was collect tickets and direct people to the appropriate places. Those bug guys love to talk, so they had a really long tour. The botany folks were a lot less verbose, with a much shorter tour.
Today was a tour of 3 cultures, followed by animal adaptations with autistic kids. We are hoping mom gets outside today, though, because it's sunny, but cool. She may get out for awhile, even though we won't. Hope you are having a great day. Well the combination of sunshine, spring, and cold weather brought flocks of humans to the museum yesterday, so mom was busy the whole time. She likes that better than just sitting. The baby's birthday party was cute, too. Today mom is doing behind the scenes tours for Earth Day at the museum. She is hoping to be assigned to birds or dinosaurs, but will do anything. I have to be brief, as she needs to leave soon. Hope you are having a warmer day with as much sun as we're having. Thanks, it will be good to hear conure cheers during the games! Where mom volunteers everyone is trained for everything, and it seems to work out well, too. Guess it's all about what your passions are with the rescue and rehabs.
Mom is working a mammal cart today at the museum, and later going to a birthday party for a tiny neighbor. She turns one today. Mom is going to buy her something from the museum gift shop, so she knows the gift won't be duplicated. We are returning the baby squirrels to the center today, too, since all are eating and the little girl who was doing poorly has gained 8 grams in the past 3 days. She's recovered, we think. The birthday party is over early, so we should get lots of mom time this evening. We hope you are getting lots of attention today, as well as some good weather. It's cold here again. It's gloomy and rainy out, supposed to storm, so we're trying to get the blogs out now, before there's thunder and lightning. Mom got her mani/pedi this morning, bees and flowers on the fingernails! Well, mom saw the first baby bunnies at the center yesterday! There are a couple of litters, so it looks like baby season has officially started. The avian nursery is all torn up right now because they are installing a bathroom for the volunteers. It will be welcome, as they have to walk on ice in the winter to find one. (It's in another building on the property.) Mom is hoping no baby birds get there before they finish the construction. She did some cages from the nursery yesterday, but they were in the small flight aviary. There are a couple of cedar waxwings who have overwintered at the center, a finch, and some pigeons all in separate cages in there. The little house finch got out, but mom was able to net it and replace it in the cage. Today for the first time, it's supposed to get into the 50s, and they're guessing mid 60s by Sunday. We really hope the weather guessers are right this time, we're so ready for spring! Hope you are having a bright, sunshiney day! That Buddha was lasered onto the rock face, then filled in with 4700kilos of gold.
My pics today are still from the elephant show, one is showing the tee shirts that the elephants paint, the other is them actually painting the shirts. The third pic is Nghi's husband, Duc, getting picked up by elephants. Mom did that too, but those pics are on her (lost) camera. Willie and Giz have pics on their pages, too. Hey Capt.
What a busy day came next! The focus on this day was Eastern medicine and food. The first stop was called a butterfly garden, but it was really a spot where there were artificial caverns and dioramas explaining how bird's nest soup nests were harvested. Then swallows whose nests are used prefer to be in caverns, often in inaccessible places, so gathering the nests after the young have fledged is a difficult and dangerous process. Of course, the humans all sampled the soup, which was sweet and kind of viscous. This place also featured lots of bee products, honey, pollen, etc. But the group was led into a room where there was a lecture about the medicinal benefits of the bee products as well as some other things like tiger bone, which kind of turned mom's stomach. The Vietnamese guide whispered to her that she couldn't take this stuff into America, and she whispered back that she wouldn't want to! She was trying hard not to be judgmental, but really!
The next stop was a large market that sold lots of snack foods, but not like you're thinking--the snacks were things like candy and cashews, but also included dried, salted shrimp, cuttlefish, sea stars, small whole fish, fish crackers, fish strips that looked like long shoestring potatoes, etc. Mom mostly walked around and looked, while her friends bought a ton of stuff. After the market, the group went to a cobra show, then heard about the benefits of snake medicines. Talk about snake oil salesmen! Then it was off to a leather factory which made crocodile, elephant, and sting ray leathers. By this time it was nearing 1PM, so lunch was in Bangkok's largest hotel, on the 76th floor. Once everyone finished lunch, it was off to a large Buddhist temple, where they climbed to the top floor to see the Buddha, ring a bell (for luck), and then it was off to the hotel to check in. This hotel had a pool, so mom and her friends made use of it before dinner. After dinner the group went to what was called a 'gay' show, but was really a large group of transexuals who performed. Most of these guys were undergoing transformation to women, and had implants and some surgical procedures, not like American drag queens. The show was actually beautiful, classy, and the girls came outside afterwards to get pictures taken. After such a long day, it felt good to go to sleep! Best I can do with the milonga is show up when mom gets home, so I'm not really with anyone, although Jesse, that guy from Canada, really wants me to go with him. I thought the blind date with CuBird was a lot of fun, but I'm not really ready to get involved with anybirdie right now. How are things on your end? Mom tried a lot of new foods there, and came to the conclusion that they have much better fruits than we do! I'll have Giz write Cubird today's adventures. Hope your day is going well. Hey Capt.
On the second day in Thailand, the tour group was up and out early! The first stop was the Sriracha Tiger Zoo, where they saw calculating pigs answer math questions (as long as the answers were between 1 and 6), a pig race, a crocodile show, and a tiger show. The group was rushed from event to event, so mom didn't have much time to see the zoo itself. They had lunch in a city called Pattaya, southeast of Bangkok, and they stayed there for 2 days in the same hotel. After lunch, they headed for NongNooch Tropical Garden where they saw a Thai cultural show, with lots of historic costumes, dances, battle gear, musical instruments, etc. The climax of that show was 2 guys on elephants fighting with swords. Then the group went to see the elephant show. Mom took a ton of pics here, but we won't see them unless the camera gets returned. They are working on elephant conservation, but have trained about 20 to 30 of them for this show. They ranged in size from babies to huge adults, with the babies performing 'Gangnam Style' by dancing and twirling hula hoops on their trunks. Mom had her picture taken with a live tiger and on the trunks of 2 elephants.
Next 2 stops were an orchid garden and a Buddha carved and gilded into the side of a mountain. It was carved by laser and filled in with 4753kg of melted gold.

Hey Capt.
Well, mom is home from her trip, with luggage but without the camera. She knows she had it leaving Tokyo, so it was lost on the plane. Hopefully we'll get it back soon. It was a long flight in both directions, and the 2 weeks passed so quickly! They spent 6 days in Thailand, 2 days in My Tho on the Mekong river, 3 days at Nha Trang (pronounced nyetcheng), and the rest of the time in Saigon. We'll be doing details in the next few days, but mom is still really tired, needs to do laundry and shopping, and has to spend time with us! I was nippy with her, Giz won't let her take him from the cage, although he is soliciting head scritchies, and sweet Willie is still her friend. Hope you are well and happy, talk later. Well, it's Calico that's in charge. Ginger's only been here for a couple of years. Calico's been in the flock for 19 years. You have to be a flock member for 10 years before you can be nominated for flock leader.
