 I saved up 10% of every paycheck all through college, and by christmas time of my senior year I had around 2,200 in my bird fund. I was reserving a Scarlet Macaw at Omar's Exotic birds (at the time in West Hollywood). While trying to interact with nippy and cranky scarlet babies, I kept being interrupted by a perticular baby Greenwing who would grab at my clothes and jump off his perch just to come tug at my pants. I would pick him up and put him back dozens of times. Finally, my girlfriend noted, "I know you are choosing a bird, but it seems a bird has already chosen you." It was so true. My advice to anybody looking for a new bird - be patient and meet lots of birds. Keep in mind that you are looking for a mutual relationship, rather than just picking a bird you like! It has made all the difference. |
