  Hello Petrie
I am off to a late start getting todays adventure due to Dad haveing a Dr app & doing food shopping. He got me some grapes and oranges. He says the stores and parking lots(whatever they are) are a mad house. I will be back larer.

Its rainy and in the mid 30s here. More rain the next couple days.

Dec. 21: Ms BBs BOTM campaign.

All of your votes are deeply appreciated. If I don’t thank you every
day its only because there is only so much time in one day.

Every birde settle in, it’s a long way out to Uranus. Who giggled?? 2,870,990,000 km (1,783,331,755 miles, Yes that’s in the billions!) to be exact. There are snacks in the storage bins to munch on.

Uranus, the first planet discovered in modern times, was discovered by William Herschel while systematically searching the sky with his telescope on March 13, 1781.

Uranus has been visited by only one spacecraft, Voyager 2 on Jan 24 1986. At the time of Voyager 2's passage, Uranus' South Pole was pointed almost directly at the Sun. This is the only planet in our solar system to be so inclined.

Like other gas planets, Uranus has rings, 13 of them in fact. The brightest is known as the Epsilon ring.

Like Jupiter's rings they are very dark but like Saturn's they are made up of fairly large particles ranging from 10 meters in diameter down to fine dust.
Uranus has 27 named moons ranging in size from 789 km to only 5 km.
Well it’s a long trip back. We all have time for a nap before we are home.

  Hello Petrie
We have a Abrims M1A1 tank that Keven brought back with him at the KB now!! WE are trying to decide what kind of maham we want to do!!LOL

Dec. 17: Ms BBs BOTM campaign.

All of your votes are deeply appreciated. If I don’t thank you every day its only because there is only so much time in one day.

Let’s take a moment to eat a light snack. We all know about the next planet out from the Sun because we live on it!!! It is called the third rock from the sun.

So we are on our way to Mars today. All girls to the back of the shuttle so the boys can be up front. It is there planet!!

Mars has a diameter of 6,794 km and is much smaller than earth but has a surface area about the same as the land surface of Earth because of the water covering 70% of the Earth.

Mars (Greek: Ares) is the god of War and is known as the red planet.

The first spacecraft to visit Mars was Mariner 4 in 1965. Several others followed including Mars 2, the first spacecraft to land on Mars and the two Viking landers in 1976. Ending a long 20 year hiatus, Mars Pathfinder landed successfully on Mars on 1997 July 4.

In 2004 the Mars Expedition Rovers "Spirit" and "Opportunity" landed on Mars sending back geologic data and many pictures; they were still operating after more than three years on Mars. In 2008, Phoenix landed in the northern plains to search for water. Three Mars orbiters (Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, Mars Odyssey, and Mars Express) are also currently in operation.

While the average temperature is about 218 K (-55 C, -67 F), Martian surface temperatures range widely from as little as -140 K (-133 C, -207 F) at the winter pole to almost 300 K (+27 C, +80 F) on the dayside during summer.

If you look out the right side you can see Olympus Mons. It is the largest mountain volcano in the Solar System rising 24 km (78,000 ft.) above the surrounding plain. Lets put on space suits & go mountain climbing.

On the left side can be seen Hellas Planitia. This is an impact crater in the Southern Hemisphere over 6 km (3.72 miles) deep and 2000 km (1242.74 miles) in diameter. That was a big rock that hit Mars!!!

We should be glad we are not here during one of this planets dust storms. They can go on for days and have high wind speeds. Scientist mostly agree that there is water (ice) under the two polar caps. And there may be some under the vast central plains.

Hay!!! What was that? Did any other birde see that? Come on, raise your wing if you seen it!! It looked like a green Marten to me.

  Hi Petrie TGIF
Are you being a good birdie??

Dec. 13: Ms BBs BOTM campaign.
Only 12 more days till the big bird in the red suit comes!

All of your votes are deeply appreciated. If I don’t thank you every day its only because there is only so much time in one day.

You won’t be needing warm coats or rain coats today. Today we are leaving the confines of the Earth’s gravity. We are headed to the moon. Don’t worry, the shuttle is space worthy. I had Geordi La Forge do a level 1 diagnostic on it last night. There are little bags attached to all the perches. That’s in case the artificial gravity goes out.

Humans have left almost 400,000 pounds of man-made material on the surface including more than 70 vehicles. Any birdie want a ride on one of the rovers they left here?
Humans have brought 382 kg of the Moon back to Earth by Apollo and Luna missions. The Moon rocks are now in collections all over Earth. Why bother!! A bird cant play with a bunch of rocks!!!

Look out the right side windows and you will see the first spacecraft to crash into the Moon. It was the Soviet Luna 2 rocket on Sept. 14th 1959 and it was crashed on purpose. Yes, the Soviets were the first to the moon. But 10 years later, in 1969, American astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon.

On the same side coming up is the crash site of the USA Ranger 4 in 1962. It too was crashed on purpose.
The first spacecraft to soft land was Luna 9, USSR, in 1966. Yep, the Soviets were first again! Surveyor 1, USA, soft landed the same year. Many more craft have crashed or soft landed on the moon. Some did not crash on purpose!!!

Apollo 11 was the first mission to land humans on the Moon on July 20, 1969.
Keep looking and you will see boot prints and wheel tracks. There are 7 American flags scattered around the moon. 6 of these flags are beveled to be still standing on their poles. There is said to be 1 Soviet flag here that was carried by that rocket that crashed here on September 14th, 1959.
There are also golf balls from Alan Shepard's driving practice during Apollo 14, and Alan Bean's silver astronaut pin.
Here we have the Fallen Astronaut statuette left by the crew of Apollo 15 to honor the 3-crew members that died in the Apollo 1 crew module fire on January 27, 1967.
May we have a moment of silence for
Virgil "Gus" Ivan Grissom, Lieutenant Colonel, USAF
Edward Higgins White, II, Lieutenant Colonel, USAF
Roger Bruce Chaffee, Lieutenant Commander, USN
Thank you.

Out the left side windows you can see the descent stages from Apollo 11 LM-5 (Eagle) and Apollo 12 LM-6 (Intrepid).

Apollo astronauts have left numerous reflectors that Scientists can bounce lasers off of to determine the exact distance from the Earth to the Moon. They were left there by the Apollo 11, 14, and 15 astronauts and by the Lunokhod 1 and Lunokhod 2 USSR unmanned missions.
These are what Sheldon, Leonard, Radgish & Howard bounce a laser beam off of on Th

Dec. 11: Ms BBs BOTM campaign.

Its Hump Day. What better day to go where we are headed!

I hope no birdie is afraid of heights cause we are off to the highest spot on Earth. Tomorrow will be the 2nd highest spot.

1st up, (yea that’s a pun!), we have Mount Everest, at 29,035 feet above sea level.
In 1856, the first published height of Everest, then known as Peak XV, at 29,002 ft (8,840 m) was established by the Great Trigonometric of British India. The 29,029 ft that is the mostly widely height accepted was first determined by an Indian survey in 1955.
There have been many other measurements taken by other countries but they are all around the same. When you get that high what is a couple feet!!!

In 1865, Everest was named after Sir George Everest by the Royal Geographical Society upon a recommendation by Andrew Waugh, the British Surveyor General of India.
Although Tibetans had called Everest "Chomolungma" for centuries, Waugh was unaware of this because Tibet and Nepal were closed to foreigners.
There is a lot of conflict over the mountain because the international border between China and Nepal runs across the precise summit point.
If you were hatched at the top what country would you call yours???

The first successful ascent and decent of the mountain was made by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay on 29 May, 1953.
219 Humans have gone to the Human Rainbow Bridge since 1922 when the mountain was first tried to be climbed.
Why climb mountains when you can take a helo to the top like Didier Delsalle did

In May 2005, pilot Didier Delsalle of France landed a Eurocopter AS350 B3 helicopter on the summit of Mount Everest. That is the highest a helo has ever flown.

  Hello Petre
Thank you for your support and your votes.

Dec. 10th: Ms BBs BOTM campaign.

Grab the long underwear and those big warm coats again. You are going to need them again today. The shuttle is taking us to the 2 coldest places on Earth today. I have hot drinks in the storage bins for anybirdie who gets cold. And electric blankets also. If you don’t want to get out you don’t have to. Myself, I am stayen in the pilot’s seat.

Verkhoyansk, Russia is our first stop.
According to the 2002 census, Verkhoyansk has 1,434 hardy residents who live in the deep Siberian wilderness. It was founded as a fort in 1638 and serves as a regional hub in cattle breeding and tin and gold mining. Located 1,500 miles south of the North Pole, Verkhoyansk was used to house political exiles between the 1860s and early 20th century.

In January the average temperature is minus 50.4 degrees F and mean monthly temperatures stay below freezing from October through April. In 1892, residents recorded the still all-time low of minus 90 degrees F.

Now back to the shuttle to warm up with some hot drinks and we are off to the 2nd coldest spot on Earth.

Well, here we are in Oymyakon, Russia.
Folks in Oymyakon take exception whenever Verkhoyansk lays claim to being the coldest location pointing out that they recorded a low of minus 90 degrees F on Feb. 6, 1933. Depending on whom you ask, 500 to 800 people call Oymyakon home, a three-day drive from Yakutsk. Schools stay open through minus 52 degrees.

The village is named after a local hot spring, which some residents tap during the winter by breaking through a thick crust of ice rimming the warm water. Anybirdie want to take a dip?? Oymyakon's tourism board has promoted the town as a perfect destination for adventure travelers hungry for a taste of the extreme.

  Hi Petrie
Since its going to be Thanksgiving in a few short weeks I think that we are all going to meet in the kitchen and start preparing some things for the Thanksgiving feast we will be having here at the Castle! We will go shopping for some of the supplies and then come back to the castle and cook and bake them up! The first thing on our list is some Apple Stuffing!
APPLE STUFFING

¾ cup of butter
¾ cup of milk
1/3 cup of chopped celery with leaves
1 cup of chopped onion salt to tast
1/2teaspoon of marjoram
½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon of ground black pepper
8 cups of soft bread cubes
2 cups of washed, quartered, pared and diced apples

1. In a saucepan mix together the butter, milk, celery, onion, salt, marjoram, cinnamon and pepper; cook over low heat until the vegetables are tender.
2. Blend the bread cubes, and apples.
3. Lightly toss the seasoned, melted butter with the bread mixture.
4. Cool the stuffing completely.
5. Stuff the turkey just before roasting
6. Leftover stuffing can be baked in a covered baking dish in the oven with the turkey during the last half hour of roasting.

We'll all go shopping for all the ingredients and then we can come back and make up enough for everyone to share!

Easy Peanut Butter Cookies
4 dozen

1 can (14 ounces) sweetened 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
condensed milk
¾ cup peanut butter Sugar
2 cups biscuit baking mix

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. In a large mixing bowl, beat the sweetened condensed milk and peanut butter until smooth. Beat in the biscuit mix and vanilla extract; mix well. Shape dough into 1-inch balls; roll in sugar. Place balls 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Flatten cookies with a fork. Bake for 5 to 8 minutes or until lightly browned (do not overbake). Cool in pan. Store, tightly covered, at room temperature.

  Hi Petrie
Baked Pumpkin

Cut a 3-inch circle around the stem and remove. Then remove the seeds. (Use the seeds for pumpkin seed recipes.) Placing the pumpkin on a cookie sheet, bake for 1-1 ½ hours or until it is tender. Pierce with a fork to check if it is done.
You can also cut the pumpkin in quarters and place face down on a buttered cookie sheet. Cool. Use the leftover pumpkin in recipes or serve as is. You can freeze the leftovers.
This is an excellent food for weaning baby birds and for parent birds feeding babies. I have a friend who serves this on top of Zwieback teething cookies. She will sometimes soak the Zwieback and then add it into the mix.
For older birds who are hard to get interested in new foods, I have found that sprinkling millet or chopped nuts on top will encourage them to eat.

TIP: At Halloween, buy an extra pumpkin for your bird. While the kids are busy carving theirs, you can cook one for your bird. Save the seeds for an extra treat.

I want to thank you again for all the love and supporting votes you have been giving me each and everyday! I just couldn't have done it without you!

  Hi Petrie
Millet Mac and Cheese

I was given a female cockatiel that never ate anything but millet before she came to live with me. She was especially stubborn when it came to trying new things. Using this recipe, I got her eating new foods in no time at all. This is a great one for getting small to medium-size birds to try new foods. For larger birds, try chopped sunflowers or pistachio nuts.

1 box any brand macaroni and cheese ¼ cup grated carrots
½ cup Kaytee pellets ¼ cup chopped broccoli
½ cup millet

Make the macaroni and cheese according to the instructions on the box. Add in the pellets and grated carrots. Sprinkle the millet on top, lightly pushing it into the macaroni with the back of a spoon. (My tiels loved the millet and started eating that, but because it was pushed into the macaroni and cheese, they ended up having to eat some of that as well. Now the same tiels will eat anything that I give them.) Putting millet in this dish will entice even the pickiest of birds. (You can also try mega millet for larger birds.)

HELPFUL HINT: If you don't have broccoli, you can add cauliflower or asparagus instead.

I can't thank you enough for all the love and supporting votes you have been sending me each and every day! I just couldn't have done it without you! I'm so sorry for the short visit but Mom has another one of those out everyday of the week things going on again. She was supposed to stay home with us yesterday but skin sis called and wanted her to spend the day with her and Nana,so she didn't get home til after 6:30 last night,Wednesday she has to take Nana for her errand runs,Thursday is skin bro's birthday and he wants to go to Longhorn which is over the Bourne Bridge so that's another full day and part of the evening gone,Friday Mom has to take Nana to the eye surgeon to see just why she's not seeing clearly as she should be and why she still has double vision! Mom is relying on my dad to help me out with my BOTM visits so I don't get far behind! I do hope he does a good job of it for me!
