Mom actually bought me for a mate for her red bellied male. She was told I was mean and aggressive. She wanted a more aggressive female for her aggressive male. So, she bought me and brought me home.
I was not nice for the first several months I lived here. I was very threatening in my cage and especially around my food dish.
I would lunge with such determination my beak would snap, when it didn't make connection with mom's arm. She just ignored me! Never letting me get a rise out of her either way!! Then, one day, curiosity must have started taking over. I would come towards mom, in a non-threating very curious sort of way. But, when she would make any more towards me, I would run in fear, and then get aggressive again. Over time, I began to trust her more, and one day, I let her pet the top of my head. Next, I stepped up. Soon, I was pacing for mom to come into the aviary in the morning, so I could climb up on her and start my ritual of regurgitating for her! Soon, it was clear, I did not want to be a breeder, I wanted to be with my mom. So, that is where I have been from then on!! :p

Hi! My name is Alfie

I am a Red-Bellied Parrot from Crandon, WI.

12 years old   F

Red-Bellied Parrot

Peanuts, grapes and nutriberries!

Off the side of my mom's shoulder. I push myself away from my body while clinging to her shoulder, so I am swaying like from a branch when she walks.

Getting put back in my cage... or not getting my veggies on time!

She let me get accustomed to her in my own time, and now I trust her completely.

I am still frightened of some people, and will say uh-oh, if someone I don't know gets too close. If they don't understand, I then fall to the floor and holler "help Alfie!" if someone I don't know pushes themselves on me too quickly..

Your never too old to learn new tricks!.

  Hello from Caymus...
Hi Alfie! My mom is doing a little research on Red-Bellied Parrots to see how compatible one would be with me. Do you have any other flock members? Are any of them Conures? The reason she asks is the weekend my mommy and daddy went to a bird show and met a 6 week old male Red-Belly. Mom really fell for him, and daddy’s “thinking about it.” But mom wants to ask around to see if other mommies or daddies have any advice on if bird like you would tolerate someone like me who is constantly “on the go” and has very little fear of anyone or anything. Here’s a vote and a big birdie hug, and we appreciate your expertise!

Come visit me, Blanche, Caymus & Peachy (2004-2010) - Thank you for BOTD!.

Tweety needs your votes for her poem. Her foot had to be amputated Feb. 26th due to the main blood supply being cut in her leg. We had to separate her from her cage mate. I wanted to get her a big cage to move (fly around) in and after paying 258.00 for her leg to become amputated we could not afford to buy her the cage of her dreams. We notice that she flies a little to get around her cage and can defiantly use a bigger one. Thank you, please visit her web site at

Come visit me, Tweety, Frosty and Ringo.

  Hi AlfieNoodle!
My mommy has permanent divots and scars in her arms from my first months in the house! So I know whereof you chirp! Now, one of my very favorite things is trying to sing with mommy while sitting on her shoulder. If mommy sings a song to me, I really try to sing along--in Human-Song! It's tough, but I'm getting pretty good at it! When she sings to me I get all happy, turn my head upsidedown and scratch my neck with my own foot while she rubs my neck with her chin. It's just the best time! What do you like to do best?

  Hi Alfie
We were the same way when we first met our owner. With lots of patience on her part she was finally able to get us on her finger, then her arm, then her shoulder, then her head, then anywhere :) Its a good thing humans are so patient and can deal with our sharp beaks, huh? here's a vote for you, pretty bird!!!

  Hello Alfie!
I hope everything is goign well for you. I had my name changed so I am now Chester. My last name reminded me of my old home and it was stressing me out. I wonder if you could do me a favor. Do you think you could ask your mom a question for me. My mom doesn't know if I am all green cheeked. She has looked at tons of pictures. She thinks I look like one except I have red feathers around my beak, around the whole thing. And some red feathers on my cheeks. do some have more red then others? Is it common? Or does she think I have something else in me. It's no big deal really mom was just wondering. She just wants to know as much about me as possible. If you could ask your mom, mine sure would appreciate it. Hope all is well with you and your flock. Come by and visit me again. Another vote to you my dear friend Alfie.

Come visit me, Chester.

Wow your mom breeds GC Amazons! Boy my mom could ask yours a million questions. She read that we aren't good talkers, i try really hard to talk. I can kinda say pretty bird but i still sound like a bird. But today for the first time i said HELLO loud and clear. Usually when the phone rings is say it really low where you can't even really hear it. I dont play with any of my toys or anything though. My last owner never gave me any so i dont know how to. I had a little tiny cage that had mildew on it and everything. It was not a pretty site. I am very happy here and i love my mom, and only her.

Come visit me, Chester.

  Hi Alfie!
You're a pretty girl. I'm glad you warmed up to your "mom". I love my mom and everyone else in the family now. I didn't like the guys very much for about the first 8 months, but I finally warmed up to them. I'm glad I "grand-dad" likes to buy me special toys and Nutriberries. I like to get rubbed by everyone, but don't like showers much. Grand-dad is the only one who I let give me a shower. Oh yeah...I love grapes too!

Come visit me, Sunny.

  Hi Alfie!
It's nice to meet a new Red-Bellied friend! My Daisy is a female Red-Belly. She is sooo..sweet and loving, but she only talks quietly. I've had her pretty much since she hatched. I'm so glad that you and Alfie got to be close. They are wonderful birds. Come and visit us! Bye!

  Hello Alfie!
Welcome! My mom got me cause my old owner was moving and was going to have me euthanized cause she thought i was too mean! thankgoodness my new mom came around. It came at a crazy time cause her and my dad were moving to new orleans from upstate ny in 2 months. Plus she has two dogs. But she wanted a bird and just couldnt pass me up. She just feel in love with me. I let her pet my head pretty early on but she had problems picking me up with her finger. I would let her use a stick though. I get on her shoulder before she can even stop me. She doesn't like it that much though cause then i get mean when she tries to get me off. But shes mine! i dont like my dad or any other males that come in the house. Her two brothers are staying here right now cuase they just moved down. So when the boys come home from work i let them know that she is mine by screaming! We are working on it though. I have all day long with her and she gives me lots of attention. I still have lots of work to do though. I am glad you like your mom very much. I do the whole strutting ritual for my mom. I dont really talk but that help alfie is really funny. I'll have to try help pete. i voted for you today!

Come visit me, Chester.
