I adopted Pepper from the wildlife refuge in Key West FL in Jan 2004. His previous owner was an elderly Cuban woman who moved into a retirement home and could not take Pepper with her. At that time she believed Pepper to be 24 years old. My husband and I were volunteers at the refuge and the manager called us to see if Pepper would come to me as he did not seem to like anyone else at the refuge. INSTANT LOVE! I actually had to place Pepper with a foster parent in 2005 when my husband and I moved to Thailand. This week we will be driving to WA to pick him up as we have since moved back stateside. I'll never leave my sweet boy again..

Hi! My name is Pepper

I am an Amazon from Huntingdon, TN.

Sweet Boy until he laid an egg 05/14/09. Now I'm trying to learn to call him/her "sweet girl"

34 years old   F

Amazon

Peanuts! Even though mom doles them out only for special treats.

My cubby in my cage and dark places.

Nail trimming!

It has been 3 years since I saw my mom, I'm can't wait to see her but I'm a little scared too. I'll be moving to a new home that she and dad has and I'll have a new friend named Zazu. I know that my mom will love and pet me on her chest as she did before. I ALWAYS loved that. My mom always took me with her wherever dad and her went, we even lived on a boat and I sailed from Key West FL to MX and back to the Chesapeake Bay with them. I even flew on an airplane with them several times. I was never scared though because my mom would put her hand in my carrier and stroke me.

Love to have under his wings stroked..

Mom Just Found Out I'm A She!!!!!
Did I surprise Mom and Dad today, I LAID AN EGG! Mom has known me since 2004 and I had never laid one. Mom even contacted my foster mom to see if I had laid an egg while with her, she said no...but can she really know (I could have hid it). Now it's so funny, both my parents keep calling me him or my boy and they have to keep correcting themselves. If I had known it was this much fun listening to them, I would have laid one a long time ago!

Come visit me, Zazu, Tweet (Tweeter) & Pepper.

  I Bit Dad!
Dad's a little upset with me today. He was measuring the space by the window below my cage and for some unknown reason, I flew on him and bit his arm above his wrist. My mom hurried and pick me up off his shoulder where I ran up to. I guess I'm becoming a little territorial of my space in the aviary. I'll have to be extra nice to dad now since now I know he was measuring for a baseboard heater for us. I let Dad pick me up again, but I know his arm hurts now.
It has been a long time since I bit Dad. Dad knows I'm still a little hormonal this time of year and that I really prefer my mom so everything will be ok.
Mom moved Tweet out of the aviary as every time she was working with him, I became just a wee bit jealous. What can I say, I haven't been with Mom in a long time!

Come visit me, Zazu, Tweet (Tweeter) & Pepper.

  hi Pepper and Mom!
I'm so happy for you both. I do love my mom, I tell her everyday. I just don't know how to make that first step without a bite. I can touch her finger with my left foot but not my right, every time I try it I can't help myself I try to bite her. Mom thinks maybe i had a band on that leg and it was removed by someone. I wish I knew why I can't seem to step up with both feet or be able to tell Mom why. I am so loving otherwise. My Mommy loves me so much. She is doing everything she can think of to make me feel safe and happy. She discovered why I was plucking my feathers and itching, I am allergic to corn, mom is too that's why she realized it when she was feeding me fresh corn on the cob. I like my pellets but I can't have them because they have corn in them. Does your mom know any commercial pellets that do not contain corn? she just likes to have some in my cage if i finish my fresh stuff. thanks for the visit and we are so glad you are finally home. love to you Pepper, from Pepper..

  Another Outing
Dad and Mom took me to Tractor Supply Company yesterday. A man there wanted to pick me up but I didn't let him. I heard him say that his Aunt had an African Gray and he liked birds, but I only wanted my parents.
Then in the afternoon, we sat out on the patio; me with mom and Zazu with Dad. It was beautiful! I even helped mom weed some of her flower beds!

Come visit me, Zazu, Tweet (Tweeter) & Pepper.

  I'm Home
I'm finally back with my mom!!! My foster mom told me mom was coming back but I didn't believe her (it's been 3 years). When mom walked into the house I thought I heard her and dads voice and I began saying "I'm Pepper" and "Hello". But then my foster mom brought a towel in (I not much on toweling) and then brought me out to the kitchen where there was 4 dogs jumping around and she just handed me to this woman who I wasn't sure of, so yes, I'm sorry to say that I bit my mom several times. But as soon as my stepmom put the dogs outside and mom removed the towel (to stop the bleeding, this is the only time I have bitten my mom in my defense) I knew who she was. I began singing and whistling so LOUD. I rode to my grandparents house on my mom's shoulder and lap the whole 4 hours. I was quite loud for a few days, my grandparents tattled on me for yelling "mama" while mom and dad went to have dinner with an old friend. What did they expect, I haven't been with mom for 3 years.
I met my roomie, Zazu. He's ok for a youngster but he's been mimicking me and showing love to dad like I show love to mom. I let mom pet him but I make sure she gives me more loving than him. It does bother me at times that dad seems to give him more attention than me. Not that I want ALL his attention, but dad and mom use to just belong to me. I still let dad pick me up and love on me, but I let him know by flaring out my wings when he has Zazu that I'm still here. Zazu and I will work out our differences eventually (or so Dad said).
I love my new room even though I have to share it with Zazu and a wee parrotlet (yes, my foster mom sent one home with us). It's is nice to only be with another Zon and a wee bird instead of 20 other birds and I have lots of new toys. My mom comes and gets me every morning and I ride on her shoulder while she does her chores. Mom and Dad even took me in the truck for a ride and I received alot of looks (I couldn't help whistling and singing at the top of my lungs!).
Mom will be taking some pics in the next few days of me and I hope she posts them on here. After all, I am the love of her life...or is that second after dad? Hmmmm...I think it's a close tie!

Come visit me, Zazu, Tweet (Tweeter) & Pepper.
