I was traveling to Petsmart to get my other budgie some food. When I passed by the budgie cages, I saw one little blue budgie walking around the bottom of the cage. The other birds were sort of pecking at him, but otherwise ignoring him. I asked an employee about him, and he responded, looking me in the eye,
"We don't know what's wrong with him. He seems to be sick, but he shows no signs of illnesses. No one buys him because he isn't as active as the other birds." he then looked at me expectantly. I smiled, looking at my mother.
"Please? I want him! I'm probably the only one who will!"
Mom consented, and I brought Avi home. It wasn't until weeks later, by observing his behavior, that he wasn't sick, he was born blind. I never changed his cage around, and was careful to keep it the same way when I cleaned it. I am now teaching my baby sister to take care of him, and she's doing a fantastic job! He now loves her as his owner rather than me! I'm okay with that. The other budgies treat him like a sibling, and he is cared for more than I believe he ever could be.

Hi! My name is Avi

I am a Budgerigar from Odessa, FL.

Pretty Birdy

9 years old   M

Budgerigar

Millet spray

I love my circle perch, and the play gym.

I don't like it when my mom moves my stuff around

She helped me adapt, even with my blindness. She helped me be more active.

I am blind, so I like to climb around the cage in order to find things..

I can see things alot better than people who have physical sight..

Tweety needs your votes for her poem. Her foot had to be amputated Feb. 26th due to the main blood supply being cut in her leg. We had to separate her from her cage mate. I wanted to get her a big cage to move (fly around) in and after paying 258.00 for her leg to become amputated we could not afford to buy her the cage of her dreams. We notice that she flies a little to get around her cage and can defiantly use a bigger one. Thank you; please visit her web site at www.1luckybird.com

Come visit me, Tweety, Frosty and Ringo.
