I found her at a family-owned pet store. She was only 4 weeks old. I checked on her a couple of times a week and finally took her home at age 12 weeks. We handfed her for about 4 more weeks. She is a wonderful addition to our flock!.

Hi! My name is Nadine

I am an African Grey from Macon, GA.

4 years old   F

African Grey

Animal crackers, carrots, what you're having

In the kitchen and on top of her cage looking out the window

She is afraid of her tiki hut.

Both my owners hold me at night. I really like to cuddle and have my neck scratched.

Shredding paper, making the timer noise, and digging..

"Ain't she sweet!".

  Hello Nadine!
Congratulations on the addition of a male eclectus to your flock. Your eclectus will need a different diet then your other parrots require. "Ekkies" like and require lots of fresh vegetables and fruits. Some good ones are carrots, broccoli, green leaf lettuce, apples, zucchini, grapes (seedless ones), and any other fresh vegetables and fruits that you may purchase. Vegetables with high vitamin A are alway a good choice (carrots, broccoli and green leaf lettuce). Eclectus parrots require extra calcium (just like african grays do.) Our eclectus, Susan, enjoys hard boiled egg whites and also the cooked egg shells. You have to be careful with feeding the pelleted diets, as too much of the pellet diet can cause vitamin overload and the parrot will start to "toe tap". Which means that it will get spasms in its foot/feet...indicating that it is on vitamin overload. Best to go light or not at all on the pelleted diet. We give Susan some pellets mixed in with her normal food, but she really does not seem to care for it very much. Eclectus birds like a calm surrounding, and when they get scared they tend to freeze and not move. When you approach your eclectus, make sure that it is aware of you. These birds sometimes seem to be "day dreaming" and can startle more easily then other parrot species do. Keep your eclectus happy and content with lots of toys. They are extremely intelligent birds and love to play. My eclectus "Susan", loves to run around on the floor of her cage and chase after a very large ball or two. She plays hard and then takes a nap. Most eclectus parrots speak in a female sounding voice, however, my parrot speaks in an almost "mechanical sounding voice." Her voice also sounds more male then female; and it is a very different voice then my amazon, african gray or conure has. Good diet, lots of toys and attention will keep your new parrot happy. Eclectus parrots can be feather pickers (they are probably one of the parrot species that are most prone to this). So, the good diet, attention and toys will keep your bird occupied so that it doesn't pluck at its feathers. The eclectus parrot can have what is referred to as "mojo molts". This can be scary if you have never seen this before. When going through a "mojo molt", an eclectus can lose so many feathers that it may start to look bald!!! When I adopted my parrot, Susan, she was missing alot of feathers and her foster home told me that she has gone through 2 "mojo molts" while they had her. Susan's feathers are coming in nicely now, but it seems to be a long process for the feathers to be replaced. I am hoping that the good diet that she is on now, will help end her mojo molts. Her foster home told me that she did not get any fresh fruit or vegetables while they had her...which may be what contributed to her bad molts. I hope that all of this information helps you out with your new eclectus. They are great birds and are very intellligent and friendly! Here is a big vote for Nadine from "Rocket

  Max here!!
Hi Nadine, good to see you. I am having so much fun taking a bath on top of my cage and splashing water all over mom while she is on the computer, what fun!! I started talking a few months ago. I say "hey, you want some? kiss me, hi, peek a boo, kissing sounds, and one mom hates, the loud noise the phone makes when AT&T leaves a message. She covers her ears when I do that. Stop by when you can, I voted for you. Max and mom Sharon

Come visit me, Rene' Pierre, Rosebud, Lucy & Max.

  Hello Nadine!
Yes we talk...but rather imitate household sounds. Ferda just started to meow! She repeats that over and over and then she laughs! She is so funny! Its lots of fun with us!

Here's a welcoming vote for you! Let's not be strangers. Gotta fly, enjoy your time here, we're all friendly :)

Come visit me, Friday & Casper.

  Hello Nadine!
Here is a big vote for you. You have a great flock! Our flock is growing, too. Today we just brought home "Susan". She is a solomon island eclectus. She has been quiet all day and is quarantined in the diningroom area. Rocket has seen her; and he has been calling out to her, but she has not said anything to him yet. It has been a big day for her! Fly on in for a visit any time!
