I saw an ad for her on Craig's list. I kept inquiring about her and filled out an adoption application. Her foster home contacted me about a week later and she came home with us on 6/4/2009. Her foster home loved her very much, and this is quite evident in her wonderful disposition and super personality..

Hi! My name is SUSAN, sooo Sweet!

I am a Solomon Islands Eclectus from whiting, NJ.

Red Bird, Sooz, Sweetheart, lil griffin, Su Su, Lil Sooz, Suzy

7 years old   F

Solomon Islands Eclectus

Susan likes cinnamon sticks, banana, hard boiled egg whites with egg shells and fresh cantaloupe. She also likes to have a tiny bit of hard cheddar cheese as a treat (all of the birdies in our flock love this!!)

Her swing, her play top, and on anyone's shoulder or hand. She loves it especially when Mom cuddles with her at night! She is a Mamma's girl!

Susan gets nervous when she is perched on your hand and you are carrying her down a flight of steps. I am not sure why she doesn't like going down stairs, but she doesn't. I always have to cradle her against my body and tell he "it's ok", when I go down a flight of steps with her. She also doesn't like thunder storms and lightening strikes. (She was happy when we closed the blinds on the sliding glass door, so that she could no longer see out during a lightening storm.)

Susan loves her new home and her big new cage. Her foster home was very thoughtful and sent her off with some of her favorite toys and some of the food that she had been eating. (I don't know what she would do without her swing!) Susan likes the fact that we let her be herself, and she seems to be enjoying the variety of different foods that she has been getting since she has been here. She especially likes fresh vegetables and fruits. Susan likes getting new toys and she especially likes chasing around a little ball with a bell inside of it. She plays on the floor of her cage with the ball. She throws it around like a puppy playing! Susan is a crazy and playful girl! Susan seems to like having her cage kept spic and span clean; and she likes trying "to help out" while I do this for her.

Susan loves her baths; and she enjoys being fussed over when I dry her and fluff her feathers for her. (Like a lady being spoiled and fussed over in a beauty salon!)Susan also can't keep her beak off of anyone's jewelry. SHE IS SUCH A GIRL! Susan loves to swing on her swing really fast. It is funny how she pushes off of the sides of her cage to make herself swing!!! She also likes to dip some of her food in her water dish before she eats it. Susan has a very loud scream that she does on random and without warning. The first time that I heard it was very startling. Pedro and Rocket were just hanging out on their perches when Susan decided to scream...both birds went flying off in different directions! Susan can get a reaction out of anyone with her prehistoric sounding dinosaur scream! (I think that I heard her laugh when Rocket and Pedro went blasting off of their perches!!! LOL) Thankfully we don't hear this noise from her very often. Susan also enjoys immitating new noises. The other night we were watching a movie on TV that had a military theme to it. There was alot of machine gun fire in it; and it did not take long and before we knew it Susan was also "firing her machine gun"! Susan joined in the battle for the entire rest of the movie, and really seemed to be enjoying herself while she did it. She is quite a character and we love her SOOOOOOO much! Susan is a cheerleader for the Bird Channel "Wonder Wings" baseball team. Susan loves to make "owl calls" to the crowd during the games. She gets very excited and swings back and fourth very fast on her swing, when the team scores a run! LOL.

Make noise when everyone else in the flock does...and then they won't know that it is you!!

Navajo code talkers conclusion
Recruiters visited the Navajo rez and selected 30 code talkers. One dropped out so 29 started the program. Many of these were young Navajos who never left the Rez,making the transition to military life more difficult.Yet they perserved.
They would work night and day helpingto create the code.Once the first 29 were finished, two remained behind to train future Navajo code talkers.
The program was successful. The entire Navajo Nation had 50,000
people.By the end of the war 420 Navajo men worked as code talkers !!!

I salute all the Navajo Code talkers and our U.S soldiers. Please say a prayer for our military. They work hard to protect all of us and our freedom !!!

Much love to all of you

  Hey Susan....
Happy Thursday !!! Did I throw you off with those questions ??? It was all in fun and games heehee !!! I did say I was going to surprise you...Raffi got every answer right !!! Congrats Raffi!

In honor of our U.S military...Today I'm going to talk about Navajo Code Talkers. They are from the Navajo nation...

In U.S history the things that happened to us Native Americans were tragic.Invaders and settlers took most of our lands and misunderstood our culture and killed us in the thousands.
Then during World War 2 ,the U.S goverment needed our Navajo Brothers to help. And though they suffered greatly from this same government our Navajo brothers proudly answered the call to duty.

Communication is very essential during any War.
Codes were often used, but broken. In 1942 a man named Philip Jonhston thought of a code that would be un breakable by the enemy.
A code based on the Navajo Language...

Be here for the conclusion tommorow...
Thank you for your votes

Truthfully I wasn't sure how a lot of you would respond to it !!! The response was awesome !!! Today I'm taking you to school. It's all about questions and answers.

What color represents death ???
What color represents life ???
What color represents power ???

Who is MAH-HEY-YOH ???
What are the four directions ???
What is sage and cedar used for and how is it used ???

What are the different catagories in Powwow dancing ???

Whats the difference between traditional Powwows and non traditional Powwows ???

What two types of Powwows are there ???

Why do we have a special day for our Elders ???

At what age does a boy become a warrior ???

What reservation do we come from and where is it ???

Who are those awesome birds in my photo gallery ???

Who is that boy dancing in a Powwow ???

What is the favorite food of all Native American tribes ???

Put on your thinking caps and give me your answers.

Tomorrow I will be starting an awesome blog for all of you.

  Hey Susan....
Happy Tuesday !!!

The puter is fixed for now and my skin sis will be typing my blogs for me as I dictate to her while I'm sitting on my mommys shoulder preening my mommy's hair.

Thank you all for sending your heart felt prayers and get well wishes to my mommy. The surgery went well and was way better than her last surgery. Now she's resting her shoulder and making the skin sibs do everything.Heehee !!!

My blogs will be short and they will get to the point. I'm trying to squeeze in as much as I can for my campaine and for you...

Today I'm taking you to a very touchy subject. Something most hoomans don't like to think or talk about but it's real and part of our circle of life...

Traditionl Northern Cheyenne Burials.

In my tribe the color white is the color of death. We use white when our loved ones go to the other side.
Burial clothes are made with soft white doe hide and the moccasins are baby soft.
The reason for this is when we all go to the other side we walk into the light where its all white and bright. When we arrive in the consel of elders with MAH-HEY-YOH we arrive being born again. Thats the reason why we use soft buckhide as soft as a baby's skin.

Black is the color of power and red is the color of life that runs through our veins.

When a tribal member or loved one goes to the other side we bathe them for their journey and bless them. We mourn for four days and nights, Some of us may cut ourselfs to ease the pain of the loss and some of us cut our hair to ease the pain of our loss. In my tribe long hair is an honor to have especially with the men.

After four day's and nights of mounrning we bury our departed one sitting up so when they arrive in the counsel of elders they will be sitting in the sacred circle with them. Mah-Hey-Yoh will then judge the our departed who has moved on to the other side.

Our tribal medicine man and holy man will then pray for four day's and nights. After they recieve thier answer they will tell us which consel or departed ones will go into. All of our departed will forever be happy and not suffer. We will then have a celebration with lots of food for them.

This is part of my world that not too many people outside of my tribe know about...
I'm sharing this with you.
Remember death is part of life in our circle. Be good,Do good and never lie or hurt or harm anyone. Always listen to our creator and obey his words to us. If you listen closely will hear a soft gentle loving voice whispering in your ear. You will know it's the creator. And also always remember in time of war when we are forced to kill we will be held in high honor here in this world and up in the stars where we all will be. There's never an end to life.
There's always a new beginning...

Thank you for your votes
Love Panther

  Hi Susan
Kiddo here, filling in for my frother in feathers, Panther. His mom called and their puter is still down, so I am using his log on to continue his campaign for him at least for today and tomorrow when his mom is going in for her surgery. She thinks she will be back to blogging the day after that, but my mom had the same surgery and says she is smoking something funny in her peace pipe if she thinks she will be up to blogging that quick! We shall see.

Anyway Panther has had such an interesting campaign for us this month with a lot to learn about our Northern Cheyenne Native Americans. He wanted to ask each of you what is the most interesting thing you have learned about them this month?

Thanks for Panther,
Kiddo

Happy TGIF !!!

Before I say anything I would like to introduce you to my second oldest brother Circling Eagle Bigfoot...He's the dancer on my profile picture. My mommy made everything he's wearing.
We all call him Eagle for short heehee !!!
Eagle is my second oldest skin bro. And on this picture he was only 7 years old. The elders in my family taught him to dance the right way.
He's a Northern Traditional dancer and being on the Powwow Trail all his life he started winning in Powwow dance competitions all over the US.
He is also well known and respected throughout the Powwow circut and Native American land.

My mommy went to Bank of America in Norco and she saw a painting of him on the banks wall.
It said young Native American boy. My mommy contacted the artist Francis Frazier who took a picture of him dancing and she said she had been working on painting his picture for many years and his picture traveled all over the U.S with her...
Anyway my mommy wanted to buy the picture from Francis but she said it was sold to a customer who wanted it. BUMMMER !!!
She told my mommy she would have given it to her...

Let me get back on track now heehee !!!
I'm going to talk to you about Powwows.
There is Northern protocol and Southern protocol Powwows. My tribe is Northern so our powwows we go to are all Northern protocal Powwows...

We have a variety of dance catagories such as Northern Traditional, Northern grass dance, Men's Northern fancy dance...
The women have womens Northern traditional buck hide or cloth dresses, Jingle dress dance, and womens Northern Fancy shawl dresses...

Some powwows are traditional and social and some powwows are contest and pay off with big money to the winners...

At Powwows we eat lots of fry bread and Native American tacos and chili stew. At night we are still eating frybread with hot coffee
or hot cocoa.
Every Powwow we went to we always met lots of powwow buddy's who stays our buddy's for life.
Some Powwows last all weekend and some over night.
Being there is awesome and magical with lots of love between different tribes.
A powwow with different tribes are called intertribal...

Thank you for your votes
Love Panther

Tomorrow I will continue with the singers and drummers at Powwows

  Hey Susan....
Happy Thursday !!!

Because of lack of time I have to make this blog short and to the point !!!

The Battle of little Big Horn... Custers last stand...

In late 1875 Cheyenne and Sioux Warriors were mad over the continued raids of Custer and his men going into our sacred lands and the black hills...

Our tribes gathered in Montana with great War Chiefs ready to fight for our tribes and our lands.
The following Spring two victories over the U.S calvary gave us strengh and spirit to fight on.

In the summer of 1876 was Custers last stand...
Custer and his men came to raid our camps and kill more of us.
Thinking there was only women, elders and children there they rode their horses into a trap !!!

As they approached what they thought was a camp with women, elders and children they got surrounded and out numbered by warriors from my tribe and the Sioux...

On that day only 60 warriors were killed and 262 men with Custer were killed in less than an hour.
What a time of victory it was for us !!!

History say's that Custer's body was found unmutilated and naked.
No thats not the truth...Custers body was never found !!! He was seen being killed. By our Warriors. But his body never found...
Some beleive that Custers body was put into a mass grave with his fallen men !!!
He dose not deserve a decent burial with honors and recognition.
Custer was by all means a coward and a cold blooded killer !!!

To this day the warriors have passed down from generation to generation. The sacred hat and clothing that belonged to Custer.
He was stripped naked when he died so the warriors could stake claim and victory !!! One of our tribe's are the keepers of the sacred hat...I can't tell you who because of the sacred vow of silence we made in those matters...

So the elders told us that's what really went down.Generations upon generations of our families have been told the real truth.
Trust me your hearing this first hand from real elders that were there and witnessed the battle. We are the real deal !!!
This is told the same way from generation to generation.

To this present day my tribe will go to the sight where we won victory over Custer and offer sage to our fallen warriors.
When it's quite we can hear the ghosts screaming out in the battle field and when we close our eyes the spirits of our fallen Warriors will take us with them on the battle feild and we can see things that went down that nobody outside of our tribes can see...

Like we all say History is a lie agreed upon. How do these so called historians know if they were not there ??? They just agree upon things because they don't know...They all guess at it and agree upon it.

Thank you for your votes

Happy Humpday !!!

I had a change of dates for The Gathering of Elders PowWow...It will be on the milonga page on Saturday July 25th...Indian time heehee !!! I'll let you know what time when we get it set up.

Anyone who knows an elder or if you are an elder please go to the milonga page and leave the elders name and page number.

Also if any of you would like to adopt an elder or more please go to the milonga page and leave your name and page number and who you would like to adopt.

Because of lack of time I'm going to take you through a quick truth about the Custer and the 7th calvary battle. The blogs are kind of short but true. These are true accounts passed down from generation to generation of elders in my tribe and elders in my family who was actually there. NOT HISTORY BOOKS !!!

Eyewitness accounts of The battle of little BigHorn...

When the 7th calvary made their way to Native American land they came with one intent. Genecide ,wipe us out !!!
They would wait for the warriors to leave camp and go on hunting parties. Then Attack !!!

The Women, children and elders would always stay behind and wait.
Once they were left alone Custer and his army of killers would raid our camps with no warriors there to defend the women, children and elders.

Custer had no mercy on my tribe and family. Custer and the 7th calvary would rape and kill the women and torture them and the elders by skinning them alive and make lamp shades and tents from their skin. They would throw babies and children in the fire alive and laugh as they screamed in agony and they had the nerve to laugh at them while they went through this torture dying.

My great, great, great grandfather had told my family and tribe on how they could smell burning flesh for miles and miles away. By the time the warriors would come back home from their hunting parties the whole camp would be burned down to the ground and everyone was dead.

For many generations Custer was called a hero. Do you call that a hero ???

This is a heartfelt series I'm sharing with you and my mommy stops to cry while typing thses blogs for me as she remembers the truth that has been told to her and tribal and family members for generations.

When Custer and his army of cowards won a war it was called a victory. When any of the Native Americans won the war it was called a slaughter.

All this would lead to the Battle of Little Bighorn...

To be continued tomorrow...

Thank you for your heartfelt votes and listening to the voices of our elders...

  Hey Susan....
I love your visits too !!! It's lockdown time for me...My mommy's going to the doctor as soon as she finishes my blogs. HELP !!! Heehee!

Happy Tuesday !!!

We had a total of three blackouts...I hope that's all over with...We enjoyed the rain so much. It's clean and fresh and SO-CAL needed it !!!

Today I'm going to talk to you about the Gathering of elders...

Almost all Native American tribes love their elders...
On my rez we have a special day for our elders called the Gathering of elders. We do this once a year to honor and appreciate our elders.
On this special day we shower our elders with gifts, food and lot's of love.

Our elders are like diamonds to us and without them our traditional ways and culture would be gone forever. They tell us everything that happened generations ago so we can pass it on and it never get's lost.

If our tribe has an elder with no family we take them in and they spend the rest of their life with the family that takes them in.
We make sure they are happy, well cared for and loved.
We never send our elders to a retirement home as in some cultures they do that.

We never disrespect an elder and we never talk back. They deserve great respect and love and honor. We love them all !!!

Tomorrow I will be posting names of BC elders on my page.

Please adopt an elder and give me your name and their name. You will be able to hang out with them on The Gathering of elders day that will be on Friday the 24TH...

You may adopt a total of four elders per flock or bird and the same elder can also be adopted by different flocks...This is in no way a competition. It's all about our elders and the love we have for them.
If any of you know an elder or are an elder please give me the name so I can put you on my page tomorrow.
You must be 15 years old and up. We are going by bird years not hooman years heehee !!!

After all it's their day !!! Let's make it a special celebration for them !!!

Thank you for your votes
Love
Panther

I will try to get their pictures posted in my gallery !!!

Come visit me, Jedi luvs Cheyenne forever...Thanks for botd...., Snowflake luvs her Apache..., Tweety luvs Princess... & PANTHER...THANK YOU FOR BOTM !!!.

  Hey Susan....
So sorry about the delay. We had another power outage that lasted all day,all night and almost all morning. We got slammed with rain and my backyard had three feet of water in it. We loved it !!!
Don't forget to fly to the KB to join in Sky and BB'S wedding celebration. There's lots of good food and fun !!!

Trick marriage continued...

Kiddo tells his brothers Cappy,Pearl and Silver to ride ahead of him so he can keep an eye on them.

Kiddo follows his brothers back to camp and he goes straight to Tall Bulls lodge. Kiddo presents Tall Bull with his gift. Tall Bull asks Kiddo to tell him about his gifts.
Kiddo says a pure white mustang is sacred. I'm bringing back four of them to you to complete the four directions.

But most of all the love they have for each other is pure. And the bond they have as a family is sacred.I rescued them and kept them together. Everything is sacred and pure...

Tall Bull smiles and say's you did good. You also rescued your brothers from our enemies the Crow Nation. You are brave and honorable...

You have my blessings to marry Sweet Pepper !!!

Kiddo invites Sweet Pepper over to eat and talk.
Sweet Pepper arrives not knowing whats going to happen.
Kiddo makes her a meal and he watches her eat it.
When she's finished Kiddo picks her up and kisses her.

Happy Sunday !!! Our power finally came back on but I don't know for how long...We are expecting more rain today and Monday. Hopefully with no power outages. We love the rain and we need it...

Trick marriage continued...

As Kiddo walks in the crow camp it's quite and all his enemies are sleeping. Kiddo looks around and starts planning on a rescue plan for the white mustang family...
Kiddo prays and asks Mah -Hey-Yoh to guide him and help him. There are hundresds of Crows there and only one of him. Being the strong Brave Warrior he is he walks around the crow camp with pride.

Kiddo say's to himself I can't figure this out. There's so many of them and only one of me !!!
Suddenly Kiddo hears three small voices whispering Kiddo help !!!

Kiddo looks around and he finds his brothers Cappy, Pearl and Silver tied up to a wooden stake. Kiddo quickly runs over to them to let them go. Kiddo say's why are you three here taken prisoners by the Crow ??? Cappy tells Kiddo we followed you to help you... In our dreams we saw you getting eaten by the Crows!
We also saw you in your sleep holding on to your medicine pouch asking that you get home safely so you can marry Sweet Pepper. Kiddo asks did you say anything to Sweet Pepper ??? This is a trick wedding. All three brothers say no.

Kiddo say's I want you to distract the crows and take three of their fastest War Pony's. I will meet you on top of the mountain under the hidden tree.Stay there and wait for me and stay out of trouble !!!

Kiddo sits behind the corral where the white mustang family is trapped.Cappy,Pearl and Silver jump on three of the crows fastest war ponies and call the Crows out !!! The Crows start to chase the three brothers into the hills. Kiddo quickly jumps on the white mustangs son and he leads the mother and daughter out of the corrals.

After they are out of the crow camp Kiddo opens his medicine pouch and throws clear shining stones in his brothers direction. The stones turns into a big shield and puts protection around his brothers so they can make it home safely.

As Kiddo rides into the herd of wild mustangs he fly's like the wind !!!

Kiddo whispers in his war pony's ear and his war pony knows where to take him.
Kiddo can see his target getting closer and he jumps on a pure white wild mustang...And brings him back to his camp. Kiddo gives the wild mustang something to eat and some water...

After that Kiddo prays and leaves an offering to Mah-Hey-Yoh...
He asks Mah-Hey-Yoh for a vision...
As Kiddo relaxes his tired body he falls asleep. He's riding again with the wild Mustangs.

He see's a young white wild mustang in his dreams. The young mustang say's to Kiddo you have my father but to make your circle complete you must come and rescue Me,My mother, and my sister...
The young mustang shows Kiddo in his dream the crow camp...They are in the corral and the Crow Tribe wants to eat them !!!

Kiddo wakes up from his vision. Tired and weak from lack of food Kiddo's love for Sweet Pepper is so strong that he heads for the crow camp.

Kiddo ties the wild mustang to a hidden tree and leaves the wild mustang with his war pony...He gives them plenty of food and water and he speaks softly to them and tells them to stay where they are...

  Hey Susan....
Happy Humpday !!!

Today I am taking you to Northern Cheyenne trick weddings...
A trick wedding is when a good and well known warrior from a good family falls in love with a woman...
The woman may not be interested in him so to save face in our tribe he will get blessings from her father and family to marry her...

Because of our strict tribal protocol a Northern Cheyenne woman from a good family may not be too forward with a warrior unless they are in courtship or already have a planned wedding.

But first the warrior must go out into the mountains alone and find something sacred and pure to present to his medicine man for blessings to marry his woman.
When he receives his blessings from the medicine man he will get one of the dresses that the belongs to the woman he loves and take it to the medicine man so the warrior and his wife to be will already have exchanged scents with each other...

Remember this is a trick wedding so she dose not know what he's planning.

There was a strong handsome warrior with many honors and from a good family named Kiddo...
He watched A beautiful girl named Sweet Pepper grow into a woman.

Kiddo loved this woman so much that he could not even think straight...
When he would go hunting he could not even shoot his arrow straight cause all he think of was Sweet Pepper...
His brothers Cappy and Pearl and Silver would always tease him.
They said laughing at him in their man's language that your going crazy over this woman !!!
Cappy said to Kiddo this woman does not even look at you how can she be interested ???
Kiddo was determined to win her...Kiddo tells his brothers that her father and family has given me their blessings...
Now I have to go to the mountains by myself and find something pure and sacred to present to our medicine man Tall Bull so I can receive my blessings from him...

As Kiddo prepares for his journey Tall Bull smudges Kiddo with the smoke from sage and gives Kiddo a medicine pouch.
Tall Bull tells Kiddo you must not open this pouch. You will know when it's needed...

Kiddo jumps on his war pony and rides off by himself into the mountains...

Kiddo rides for four days and four nights trying to figure out what is sacred and pure out here in the mountains.
Kiddo watches the wild mustangs run by him and figures it out!
Kiddo sets up camp for the night and prays to Mah-Hey-Yoh...

Kiddo prepares for what he has to do the next day...He is a strong determined warrior and won't stop until he wins her wing in marriage...

Trick wedding to be continued tomarrow...

What does Kiddo find that's sacred and pure to bring back to the medicine man ???

  Hey Susan....
Today I'm going to tell you the real truth about Northern Cheyenne marriages...
Our creator is the same as all creators... Marriages are blessed by our creator and is the same creator that almost every religion worships and praises...We all have our own way and our own names for god...We call him Mah-Hey-Yoh and other religions call our creator Heavenly Father etc.

Generations ago as the Elders told me we were considered to be savages and Pagans. None of that is true !!! We were a peace loving tribe and tried to avoid war...The warriors went through a lot to get married such as 4 days of fasting and going to a sweat lodge ,getting blessings from the tribe and family and going out in the wilderness for 4 days and nights and receiving a vision...

The women would also prepare for their weddings by going through a sweat and then exchanging scents from the warrior they were going to marry...

We did not have marriage licences and all the paper work. A real warrior doesn't need those things in our tribe. It'a all about the heart and blessings from our creator.

If you think about it the invaders came here to Indian country with guns and intent to kill...We never knew what a gun was until they brought them here.
Who's the real savages ???
And how can a piece of paper called a marriage licence be called sacred ???
Obeying God and receiving his blessings and working hard and suffering to get married is real. It's not a piece of paper.
Christians who I know agree that there was never a piece of paper that would bind a couple in marriage...

Even the trick marriage's were blessed and our Warriors did everything straight from the heart. There was never no lies...

All marriages were held in high honor and there was never a divorce or separation.
With that being said I hope you all understand our tribes ways...

Tomorrow I will be taking you to a Trick Marriage.
After that Sky and BB will be having a Traditional Northern Cheyenne wedding...

Thank you for your votes

Raffi tells Uncle Tall Bull I have blessing's from Cydneys father Sam and her family to marry her.But she thinks highly of herself and I don't know how to get into her heart and dreams !!! Uncle Tall Bull tells Raffi you must go to the other side of the lake by your self and climb up the sacred mountain and get one big branch of lightning struck cedar...
Raffi says but Uncle there are river monsters in the river !!!
Uncle Tall Bull says I know there is but I know you can conquer them !!! You must leave at dawn with this sacred war staff on your pony and come back with a large branch of lightning struck cedar...When you come back home you must bring the cedar stick to me... Raffi goes to his lodge and Jedi and Picabo are waiting for him...They ask Raffi how did it go big brother.Raffi say's I got blessings from Cydneys father and family to marry her.Now I have to go to the sacred mountain across the river by myself and get a big lightning struck cedar branch for Uncle Tall Bull..Jedi and Picabo say Raffi you will have to fight that river monster and she may eat you !!!   Hey Susan....
Happy Humpday !!!

Today I'm going to explain to you more about my Northern Cheyenne culture and traditions...

In the next three day's you will get to experience a very old traditional Courtship and a Trick marriage and a Traditional wedding...

First let me explain a few things about my tribe to give you a better understanding...

My tribe's Creator is the same as the Creator that all of you worship. We call him Mah-Hey-Yoh. This means the creator of the earth ,the sky's, and all living things that are good. He made all of us. We only have one god...And that's Mah-hey-yoh...

Many generations ago we had our Northern Cheyenne language and we all spoke to each other and communicated. Because of our strict protocol we also had a woman's language that only the women understand and a mans language that only the men would understand. To this day the traditional's use the same language...

We also pray with Sage and Sweet grass and Cedar...We burn it and we smudge our self with the smoke from it. Before and after each social gathering we would be blessed by a medicine man and they would smudge us.It was also used in healing and protection and blessings...

We pray to four directions for spiritual help. The four directions are North, South,East and West...That's why you see a cross on our traditional clothing...It represents the North, South,East and West...These are the spiritual helpers...

All marriages must be in the same tribal status. Such as the higher status of Warrior families must be within the same tribal status. The medicine clans are also in the status of the Warrior clans.

All marriages must be approved of by both families. Some are arranged and some are not.
Marriages are preformed by our holy man or medicine man. A trick marriage must be approved before it takes place. Without the bride knowing. This is where the mans language is used man to man...Heehee !!!
All Marriages must be honorable. And must be proper and the most important part of the marriage is love and commitment and raising our children with our traditional ways...

Tomorrow I will start with courtship. After that marriages...Then you will see who get's married !!!

Can you guess ????

Thank you for your votes

Here's the conclusion of my story. I hope you like it !!!

Sugar the story teller continues her story !!!

...Quill Work Woman...

As Quill Work Woman and her brothers,Cookie,Tweety,Peppi and Hulk climb the tree the buffalo charges the tree and him and his Buffalo Nation start to ram it breaking off big chunks of the tree trunk.
The tree trunk gets weak and starts to fall apart.

Quill Work woman says what are we going to do ??? Peppi aims his sacred bow and arrow at the tree trunk and shoots the arrow straight into the tree trunk...

The tree trunk gets thicker and the tree grows higher !!! Peppi aims his bow and arrow again and shoots the tree in the branches and the tree grows higher. He say's climb !!! Then again he shoots his sacred arrow into the trees branches and it reaches the clouds !!! He say's jump on the clouds !!! They all jump on the clouds and watch the tree fall down. The leader of the buffalo nation sits under the clouds and waits...

Quill Work woman says we are on the clouds what are we going to do ???
Suddenly they hear the voices of BooBoo and Cori who are star people...
Come up here and join us with the stars...It's beautiful !!!

Quill Work Woman and her brothers Tweety,Cookie,Hulk and Peppi jump on the nearest stars. They see their brother who was lost for many years and he says welcome to the stars.

Our Creator Mah-Hey Yoh has blessed us so we will never have to experience death...

They all live in the stars now and are very happy !!!

This is the origin of the Big Dipper Constellation...
Quill Work woman and the two star girls Cori And BooBoo and her four brothers with their lost brother will forever twinkle with the stars...
When ever you look up to the stars you will see them smiling at you. This is why the stars twinkle...

Thank you for liking the stories...Here's part two of Quill work woman !!!

Sugar tells the second part of her story...Quill work woman...

The leader of the Buffalo Nation calls Quill work Woman and her Four brothers out !!!
The four brothers step out of their lodge with Quill Work Woman standing behind them...

The leader of the buffalo Nation says I have been watching your sister and I love her. I want to marry her and make her part of my buffalo Nation... May I please marry her my two legged brothers ???

Hulk says no you cant marry our sister, Cookie say's she belongs to the Northern Cheyenne Nation,Tweety say's she doesn't want to marry you and Peppi says please go away now.

The Leader of the buffalo nation is mad !!! He says how dare you speak to me that way !!!
I will be back in the Spring time and ask her again...
The buffalo runs off angry...

After the winter has passed and Spring comes in Quill Work Woman and her four brothers pack their belongings and plan to head back home to the Northern Cheyenne Nation...

As they are packing they hear the loud rumbling of buffalo hooves coming towards them.
The leader of the buffalo Nation calls out to Quill Woman and her four brothers...
He say's I'm hear once again to ask for your sisters hand in marriage my two legged brothers...
Cookie says no you can't marry our sister !!!

The Buffalo nation leader say's I'll be back to stomp you down into the earth and kill all of you.

Quill Work woman goes into the lodge and cuts a hole in the back of their lodge...
Suddenly they can hear thousands of Buffalo running towards them.
They all climb out of the hole in their lodge and Peppi grabs his sacred bow and arrow as he climbs out.
Soon as they get out of their lodge the buffalo stampede through their lodge and crush it...

With no where to go they run towards a big tree and start climbing up...
The Leader of the buffalo nation starts to charge the tree trunk to knock it down !!!

Part three of the story will continue tomorrow.
Can anyone guess what happens next ???

  Hey Susan....
Sugar finishes her first story...
Tweety and Cookie are excited about the story and cheer Sugar on.
Hulk and Peppi ask Sugar can you tell us another story ??? BooBoo and Cori give Sugar a gift and she accepts...

*** QUILL WORK WOMAN***
There was a beautiful girl who was blessed with the gift of making beautiful quill work. She was also blessed spiritually having dreams and visions...One morning she got up and told her mother that she had a dream of having four brothers who are waiting for her...She made beautiful War Shirts for each one of them and decorated the war shirts with quills...

Quill work woman packed the War shirts and her belongings and gave her mother a kiss. She said I'm going to find my four brothers.
Off she walked into the snow. She walked for a hundred
miles...
She found a big lodge in the snow and went inside. Not being able to find her brothers. She unpacked the War shirts and waited...
Not long after a young warrior who was 8 years old his name is Peppi came in the lodge. He was happy to see her and said sister I have been waiting for you. I called you in your dreams...Quill work woman gave him his war shirt and it fit him perfect. He then told her he is a spiritual leader and carries the sacred bow and arrow...
A while later her other three brothers came in and asked Peppi who is this ??? Peppi said this our sister I called upon...
Quill work woman gave her other three brothers Hulk, Tweety and Cookie their war shirts. They fit each brother perfect.

Quill work woman and her brothers were so happy and she cooked for them and took good care of them. The brothers always liked to joke around and Hulk said I thought all big sisters that could cook are fat and ugly !!! Tweety and Cookie said our big sister is fine !!!

One day the four brothers went out to hunt for food while Quill work woman stayed home and cleaned up their lodge...
Suddenly she heard a loud sound of thunder and the ground was shaking. A buffalo stuck his head in her lodge and said Quill work woman our leader is in love with you and wants to marry you and become part of our buffalo nation !!! Quill work woman said no I am happy here with my brothers. The buffalo ran off to tell his leader.

Later that night the four brothers brought back food to prepare.
They heard the earth rumbling and then the leader of the buffalo nation was calling to them...

Story to be continued tomorrow.
Can you guess what happens next ???

Here's a Cheyenne story for you...

***THE MOON AND THE COYOTE****
There was a very lonely coyote,She would go to the hills every full moon and talk to the moon. She fell in love with the moon...
One night she went to the hills and told the moon I love you. You are so beautiful !!! She hung her head and walked away. Suddenly she heard a soft voice say I love you too coyote...She turned around and the moon was standing behind her.
The moon and the coyote got married and had a beautiful son the color of his father...
They were so happy together !!!

One night a band of Warriors got lost trying to find their way home. They called on the creator to guide them home. The creator was angry !!! Where is the moon he asked ??? The Warriors told him we don't know.

The creator found the moon and the coyote and he said moon you are to stay where I put you. The creator raised his arms and the moon went back into the sky never to come down again.
The coyote and her son would go to the hill and howl to the full
moon to come back to them out of sorrow. All of her grand children and great, great grand children and the upcoming generations would howl at the full moon forever.
That is why the coyote howls at the moon...

Happy 4th of July

  Hey Susan.... Vote for me
Today I'm taking you to the Northern Cheyenne rez in Lame Deer Montana...
This is where the people of the Big sky comes from... My tribe The northern Cheyenne...

When our creator made all things that are good and living such as our four legged brothers with fur,our brothers with wings and beaks, our brothers with scales and fins and our brothers who
crawl. He sent them from father sky to mother earth. He then made a man and a woman...They were sent to earth from the stars.
All animals are our relations. And we start our prayers with all our families and relations...We are all made from the same creator !!! So there you have it !!!
This tribe is considered to have the most beautiful people of all Native American tribes...
We are not farmers or sheep herders...We are Warriors and hunters. Living off our own land that the creator blessed us with.
My tribe is considered to be very friendly but have short tempers and will fight at the drop of a hat !!!
The boy's in my tribe are considered to be men at the age of 8 years old and they will go in the sweat lodge to be blessed with a man's name by my medicine man. After we have been blessed and given our name we can then go out to battle with the Warriors.
The girls at birth are named names like Sweet Woman,Sun Woman etc. There is always a woman at the end of their names.
Most last names have the word big in front of it like mines Bigfoot, Big left Hand etc...
We are taught at a very young age to have respect for all living things. And all things have life in them. And come from the earth. Such as aluminum etc...A properly raised child will not kick a can or throw a rock cause it has living minerals and life in it.As so does the water.
My Tribal protocol is strict and the women must always carry them self in a proper way.
Warriors carry them self with pride and honor and they protect the women and children with a great fierceness...

Northern Cheyenne men only have one wife and we do not eat dogs like the other tribes heehee !!!

Or social gatherings are called Powwow's. And we also have special days to honor our elders...
We love and respect our elders and treat them like diamonds.
An elder is never left without a family with in our tribe. If they have no family or no one to take care of them they will be taken care of by a family so they can have a happy life knowing they are loved and cherished...
There's so much more with so little time to talk about. I will update you on certain things as we go along.
Friday I will start Story telling and after that courting and marriage protocal. Something I know Kiddo And Sweet Pepper will love...
My bro Raffi and the single guys will love to learn how to do a traditional courtship !!!
Sky can learn a few things too.Instead of waiting on BB'S wedding date he can do a trick marriage heehee !!!

I need to know who are the most oldest birds on BC...
There will be something very special for them.

Love Panther

“Hi Every Birdie! Today we are headed to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. We are going to be going to Dollywood and Dollywood’s Splash Country, and I think we are going to have a lot of fun! Let’s head on over to Splash Country!” They arrive at the water park, and once inside, Jester asks them what they want to do first. Hulk and Cappy say that they should do a water slide, so they head over to Mountain Scream. At the top, they choose the quadruple-drop slide to go down, one by one, they all slide down. The slide was super fun! Next they head to the Big Bear Plunge, a white water rafting adventure ride. They load into large rafts in groups of 5. Jester shares his tube with Jolie, Norman, Kiddo, and Panther. They have tons of fun on the raft ride! After, Tango suggests that they go and do the Downbound Float Trip. So they head over to do that, and all sit in tubes and float down the river. It is very fun and relaxing. Next they head over to RiverRush, which is a water coaster. They load into long tubes in groups of 4, and ride the water coaster. They have lots of fun! After a few more slides, and a trip to the Cascades, they dry off, and head over to Dollywood. Once they arrive, they decide to go on the Shooting Star Drop Tower. They load on the ride, and then it slowly goes up, and then drops back down! Next, they go on the Sky Rider and Mystery Mine. After, Queen Sweetie asks if they can go see the Smokey Mountain String Band. They go see the show, and really enjoy the music! After the show, Picabo asks if they can go on the Tennessee Tornado. Jester is all for it, so they head over to the coaster. It is thrilling; they go down a 128-foot drop at 70mph! Next they go on the Wonder Wheel, and enjoy the view from the top. They do plenty more rides; they go on Thunderhead, the Village Carousel, Lemon Twist, and Dizzy Disk. They also see shows! They see Kingdom Heirs, Heartsong, and the Dreamland Drive-In. They have tons of fun! After, they eat dinner at the Backstage Restaurant, and then head to the DreamMore Resort. They play some card games and talk about their fun day before heading to bed. – Thanks so much for voting! See you tomorrow! Hugs, Jester

“Hi Every Birdie! Today we are going to Nashville, Tennessee. Our first stop is going to be Centennial Park. Let’s go!” They arrive at the park, and walk through the beautiful surroundings. They walk to the Parthenon, a full scale replica of the original Parthenon in Athens. The building is stunning. Inside, it serves as an art museum. The focus of their permanent collection is a group of 63 paintings by 19th and 20th century American artists. The birds look through the whole museum, before heading off to their next stop. Their next stop is the Hermitage Plantation and Museum. Once there, they take the President’s Tour. After their tour, Angel and Pepper suggest that they eat lunch. They all agree, and head over to a local restaurant. After lunch, they head over to the Adventure Science Center. There is lots to do there! They do the Adventure Tower and Space Chase. Raffikki asks if they can go see the glassed in Beehive, so they go over and see that. When they are done, they head over to the Tennessee State Capitol. They take a guided tour, and see the governor's reception room, bullet-scarred stair rail, House of Representatives, Senate, and old State Library. After, they head over to the Grand Ole’ Opry House, to see the Grand Ole’ Opry. They really enjoy it, and have lots of fun. After, they head out for dinner, and then to their hotel. – Thanks so much for voting for me! See you tomorrow! Hugs, Jester

I know we can fly, but it would be a long flight for us, so let’s go catch a plane!” Jester and his friends head to the airport, and take a long plane ride to England. They arrive at night, and eat dinner and check into a hotel. When they wake up the next morning, they eat breakfast, and are ready to start their adventures. “I hope you got good sleep last night, because we are going to have a long and fun day! Our first stop is going to be to see the Big Ben, let’s go!” They arrive at the famous clock tower, and Picabo suggests that they should fly up and sit on the hands of the clock. They all agree that it would be fun, and fly up! They perch up on the clock hands for a few minutes before heading off to their next destination. Their next stop is Buckingham Palace. They take a tour of the state rooms, and they think that they are gorgeous. Next, they head over to the British Museum. They see lots of interesting things while touring the museum, like Greek statues and medals of the sun king. When they are done at the museum, Panther and Oki ask if they could get fish and chips for lunch. The birds all agree that fish and chips sound good, and head to a little restaurant. After a delicious lunch, they head over to the London Eye Ferris Wheel. They take a ride on it, and enjoy the lovely view from the top. After, they head over to the Globe Theatre, and see Shakespeare’s King John. It is a wonderful performance, and they all enjoy it. When they are done, they head back to their hotel. They all talk about what a great day they had, and what their favorite things were. Jolie says that her favorite was the London Eye, Hulk really enjoyed Big Ben, and Cookie really liked the museum. After awhile, they all fall asleep. They wake up early the next morning and take a plane back to the US. – Thanks for voting for me! See you tomorrow! Hugs, Jester

  Hi Susan!
“Hi, it’s Jester! I am running for Bird of the Month, and I would love if you would stop by and vote for me if you have the time! We are going on vacation all month, and we are having lots of fun together! Today we are headed to Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts! This is a place that mom and her family used to go to a lot when she was younger, and she said it is wonderful. (: Our first stop is going to be the Gingerbread Cottages, so let’s go!!” They arrive, and all love cute colorful cottages! Zippy asks if they are really made of gingerbread, but Jester tells her that they are just called that. They stroll down the street, all picking out their favorite houses. Hulk’s favorite is a bright blue one, Picabo likes a yellow one, and Queen Sweetie loves a cute pink one. When they are done looking at the cottages, they head to the Gay Head Cliffs. When on the cliffs, the birds have a lovely view. They snap some photos and enjoy the view, before heading to their next stop. Their next stop is Mad Martha’s Ice Cream. The birds get their favorite ice cream, and sit and enjoy it. When they finish their ice cream, they head over to Oak Bluffs, to visit The Flying Horses Carousel. They get there, and learn that it is the oldest operating platform carousel in America. They birds all get on the carousel, and have a very fun time, going round and round, and trying to grab the rings. They had so much fun, that they decide to ride it again! After their second ride, they head off to their last destination. They arrive at The Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs, to hear Vineyard Sound, a male vocal group. They all enjoy the performance, and have a lot of fun. After that, they head to the cottage they rented, and relax and play games until bed. – See you tomorrow! Hugs, Jester

  Hi Susan
Hello everybirdie, Sweetie here on this first day of June. I have greatly enjoyed sharing with all my friend this past month. It has been mind provoking and educational for me and I have gained some awesome insight too. Sharing is after all what Flockcall.com is all about. The Advocate writers share from their daily life with Parrots. It offers the opportunity for everyone to share, express their thoughts, ideas and insights in a safe, nonjudgmental and encouraging form.
I am the last of the Sky Flock to run for BOTM. I follow a long line of worthy predecessors, King SKY, King Amando, King Casey, King Jesse, Queen Little Angel, Queen Angel Girl and Queen Zeena. I must say it has been a fun month and a great privilege to get to know each of you better in the process. The current Companion Parrot Crisis is far from over, and there are, as we revealed, no hard- fast rules or ways to resolve the issue. Too many Parrots, too few good, forever homes is at an epidemic level. If I venture to say, "all we can do is our best to share what life is truly like with a Companion Parrot." Perhaps one person at a time we can make an impact and make change for the better. If we do nothing, the problem won't just away.
I am one of the fortunate ones, I ended up in a safe place, and received the emergency medical care I required. The story often has a sad ending for many others who disappear never mourned or missed. Their life from start to tragic end a story of misunderstanding, neglect and sometimes intentional abuse. It is heart-breaking but none the less a reality for many Parrots.
I want to thank everyone for their daily votes and participation this past month. You have made my month purposeful. I hope that the sharing of information which once was Bird Channel will continue as we head into the future. I am now off to finish chewing my wooden blocks. It's a rainy day and perfect for some serious Parrot recreation.
Thank-you all for the honor bestowed on me, as receiving the title Queen Sweetie this morning. I tried to visit you all yesterday but BC would not let me post any blogs. Geesh. I would not have got here today without each and every one of you.
with love and hugs
Sweetie

  Hi Susan sweetie
Hello everybirdie, Sweetie here with our Saturday blog. This month sure has flown by quickly. It seems like just yesterday I wrote my very first words, and now I an coming to a month's conclusion. I wish to thank everyone of you for your votes towards my quest for the Throne. Although it is not my ultimate goal, it is part of it. My main goal was to start some serious sharing and that goal has been far surpassed. Your input and comments are encouraging, and inspiring. We are but, one small group for Parrot lovers. Can you imagine what impact we could have if every Companion Parrot owner united the World over?
There is a sad trend among humans to disagree and even fight over what in fact equals nothing vital nor important to us Companion Parrots. All one has to do is view a photo on FB of a Parrot and dog to see the level of anger and opinions. No one asks if someone was supervising the interaction, or about the past relationship of the two. I am not referring to obvious dangerous situations were the bird could be in danger of injury or worse. Post a photo of a Parrot climbing into a cupboard, then read the comments left by others. There is obviously someone close by supervising, after all who took the photos? Instead of fighting over such non-essentials why not focus on what really matters?
Parrots are individuals. We have such singular personalities that there is no hard-fast rules that can work for every bird, in every home, with every owner. While one owner snuggles their fid, and another one believes that you should only scritch the head and upper neck area, neither is wrong. One owner might feel you should keep wings trimmed for safety and another that fully flighted Parrots are the happiest, both are right, in their own personal Parront-Parrot relationships. Every situation is unique. What works for one, may not work for another. It does not make one person right or wrong, it just equals the truth about living with a Companion Parrot. There are no straight forward, fits-all answers when it comes to Parrontship.
The important point is that sharing is not criticism. Sharing is openness to new ideas, and views. If all the Parrot Rescues would learn to live peacefully together rather then back biting they would accomplish so much more. That does not mean turning our backs on obvious wrong treatment, misuse of funds donated and outright abuse and neglect. Rather accepting that every Rescue, like every owner (yuck, there's that word again) is a separate unique situation. As long as there is mankind there will be good and bad. that is a sad given reality. Support those who are doing their best to help the Parrot Crisis.
Tell yourself each and every day that, "I AM a Companion Parrot Ambassador" and use your power to spread the word " ADOPT! DON'T SHOP!" and make a change one person at a time. YOU have the power.

  Hi Susan
Hello everybirdie. It's the weekend again and also the end of the month draws ever closer. I have had a wonderful month sharing and reading all your awesome thoughts, ideas and suggestions. The Companion Parrot Crisis is huge, far more then one small blue-fronted Amazon can tackle on her own but together with each of you we can and will make a difference. The general populous needs education and enlightenment about sharing their lives with one of us feathered wonders. As you all have so eloquently pointed out, we ARE NOT at all like owning a dog or cat. No one can own a Parrot. While dogs and cats are domesticated, Parrots are not, and never will be truly humanized. There is a problem when humans begin to rationalize our behaviors in humanistic terms. Our behaviors and responses are based on instinctive and learned responses just as those of our wild cousins. We can be trained to do tricks through positive re -enforcement but we can not be controlled or expected to obey commands as a dog will.
One point I have observed in my short 2 years of life is that people tend to judge us by our species not by our individual personalities. Not all Macaws lunge, not all Cockatoos bite and scream, not all Amazons are aggressive and unpredictable. The list goes on and on. We are singular beings, and although certain traits are inheritable we are also influenced by our past experiences. Companion Parrots can not be generalized into "types" any more then all humans are the same.
My hope and desire is that one day there will be no need for Parrot Rescues, and every Parrot will have a loving forever home of its own. The abuse and neglect will be in the past and every Parrot will know happiness and never experience fear or terror. Will that world ever come? No, but if even one Parrot can be freed from pain, released from it's caged prison, and receive it's very first spark of hope my life will be rewarded, and my purpose on Earth fulfilled. Momma Deb says she will not rest until she knows changes have come, until Rescues are not forced to turn away unwanted Parrots from lack of space and funds. Her goal is awareness, education and to make a change even one person, one Parrot at a time. She has no magic formula for making it happen, but as long as she has a voice she has the power to see it happen. One voice can start a war, so many voices speaking up for us can surely start a Worldwide movement to better the lives of ALL Companion Parrots, end Poaching and legalized trapping of Wild Parrots for profit.
The logo for our Rescue is ADOPT! DON'T SHOP! a universal phrase that says it all. It is spring and countless thousands of babies will hatch from eggs. Ten years from now where will they be? Will they be in loving homes? Will they be in Rescues? Their fourth homes? How many will have died from abuse, neglect at the hands of mankind?

  Hi Susan
Happy Thursday to all my friends. Sweetie here once more with our BOTM blog. I did miss yesterday as momma Deb was called upon at a moments notice to help out with a rather difficult birdie related situation. All went well, and it has a happy, satisfactory ending. Today we get all Momma's attention and she promises extra treats for everybirdie who was so well behaved yesterday when our friend King Mikey D's Momma helped get us ready for bed.
Our month is quickly coming to an end. We have shared some very timely and sensitive issues and discussion and I truly hope each of us has learned a little or a lot from one another's experiences. A life with a Companion Parrot is never dull, never ordinary and certainly never boring. No two species are alike, and among like species we each have our own extraordinary individuality and quirks. Some of us are as bold as a lion, others as shy as a mouse, yet we all possess the inherit ability to melt our Parront's heart, worm our way into their every thought and garner their love and respect. I wish that this description was universal, and it grieves my little Blue-Fronted Amazon heart that at this very moment, Parrots are suffering untold neglect, abuse or worse death at the hands of mankind. Never did my Momma Deb in her wildest thoughts think she would ever be writing as a Companion Parrot Advocate. That she would be one of the ones to stand up against our mistreatment and to put up the fight for our rights. Life has a way of changing suddenly, and if we allow it, it can transform a one time breeder into a Parrot Spokesperson.
I am only one Parrot, but I want to encourage each of you to take the challenge to become a Companion Parrot Ambassador. Never doubt your ability to bring about change. Whether you are a "get in your face" type, or a "quiet, shier one at a time" personality type we ALL can make a difference. Just imagine if every bird loving Parront spoke to just one person about life with a Parrot, about proper care, feeding or even shared what it is like to be owned by one of us, the impact would be fantastic. We could make change, stop improper selection of species for first time would be Parronts, change how one Parrot is treated, or how it is viewed within it's own family situation. We might open a cage door closed for years, allow a Parrot to begin to enjoy better food, have room to move in it's cage at last, find out how much fun a toy can be, or receive the Veterinarian care it needs and deserves. You would be shocked at how many do not know that their Parrot should be seen by a Veterinarian regularly. The number who feel a Parrot only needs peanuts and sunflower seeds. We need YOUR voice to make change happen.
NOW FOR TODAY"S QUESTION: It is not a question at all. Please continue to share YOUR special MOMENT(S) with your fids with us. They are interesting, educational and encouraging to read. Your experience might make a difference for someone else too.

Come visit me, Mr and Mrs Sky and BB Thrift, Little Angel, jesse & Queen Sweetie, Thank-you friends for BOTM.

  Hi Susan
Happy Tuesday everybirdie, Sweetie here with your BOTM blog for the day. I so enjoy the blogs, I read them each and sometimes twice in case I missed anything. Such great information is available right here among our BC friends. It's been a rather eventual few days. Momma Deb was called on to take in an older Cockatoo, but through many conversations was able to keep him safely in his own home. This poor M-Too was severely plucked and sported a rather nasty hole ( self-inflicted) on his neck. His past owners moved suddenly and gave up him, and an Amazon to a fellow local rescue who deals with small species only. Hola, as he is named was fostered into a home of experienced Companion Parrot owners with no Too experience. After Momma told them about the need for blood work to test for diseases, need to have the wound treated by the Vet and to discover, if possible the reason he is plucking, Hola is now at an Avian Vet under-going treatment.
We, BC Companion Parrot Ambassadors have so much we can share, so much to give to the Avian World. So many of you have done so much to help others learn about life shared with a feathered Fid. Everytime you suggest a good food to someone eying various foods for their Parrot at home you are making a World of difference both to their Bird and also to those whom speak with. It does matter. A few shared words of wisdom can save an innocent Parrot years of neglect, or re-homing. It is better to dissuade someone getting a bird, then remaining silent. From experience I see it often here, in my forever home. People visit, and OH I LOVE THAT ONE! I always wanted one of those? What is it? Can IT talk!? Oh they certainly are told the facts no holds barred. We are loud, messy beyond words, destructive sometimes, expensive, eat only the best out-of-season fruits and can be down right nasty when upset, hormonal or angry. People leave with a new understanding of life with a Parrot. It is not all that TV version of the Macaw on the shoulder talking in cognitive sentences, or a small, flitting bird singing happily in its barred prison.
Mom says she is going to keep close tabs on Hola, so he doesn't fall through the cracks, and disappear forever. She has arranged with the very BEST Cockatoo Sanctuary she knows of in Canada to take him there to live forever. There he will be safe, cared for and loved dearly by the owner, and volunteers.
I want to encourage everyone to get involved in some small way. Some of you have done quite a lot to education people about Companion Parrots. Not everyone has that ability, but we can all offer to be an advisory, to offer help to owners through animal shelters, or a Vet office. You might be surprised how willing they are for someone to refer people to with bird problems.
PLEASE keep sharing your stories they are fabulous.

  Hi Susan
Hello everybirdie, Sweetie here on this damp, dull Monday herein Napanee, Ontariot. With less then a week left in this month, I wanted to take a brief look at a few of the blogs you left on my page to share with everyone. I have enjoyed reading all of your comments, and encourage everybirdie to share in the discussion. I was reading this morning and came across Miss Chyna's blog. It brought back many memories to me about my beginnings here in the Sky Flock. Chyna was very blessed indeed that her Momma and Daddy found her when they did. Dirty, hungry and sick she was being sold to whoever had the money to take her away. What a shame some people look at us and only see a value sign written in dollars. My story as you all know was different, but in a sense was also based on money.
Sometimes birds arrive into home with hidden illnesses, but there are a lot that were sold or given away because they were sick and their former owners did not or could not afford the money to have them treated by a Veterinarian. I am asking to see how many of you were outwardly ill when re-homed? How many were being housed in sub-standard, dirty conditions? How many of you were without food, or being given poor, low quality or incorrect foods?
My Momma Deb feels there should be standards set for those who retail Companion Parrots whether a private owner or as a business (Pet Stores, Breeders etc). In general the animal welfare laws of our countries are behind the times, lack sufficient depth to make necessary changes, and fall short in the juridical system. Laws set to protect us many times lead to fines, or a probational period of "owning or possessing an animal." Many of you may recall the tragic murder of Ozzie an CAG in Alberta Canada. Stolen from her front porch and brutally abused her murderers, three teens got away with a crime that united the Parrot World to fight for stiffer sentences, and more explicit laws to be written to protect ALL animals.
Many have shared this month that they have seen sick Companion Parrots sold in Pet Stores. Often when this fact is brought to staffs attention, they shrug it off and do nothing. Few chain stores will spend the money to take an ill bird to a Veterinarian for treatment. After all it effects their profit margin. Many times when an ill bird is pointed out it is removed from the display cage to die alone in the back of the store. Some stores even have made it their "policy" that sick animals, birds included be "humanely" killed by placing it into a box in their freezer. That is not humane, freezing to death, alone in the dark. Some stores have admitted that they are told by "head-office" that this is how they are to treat sick animals in the store.
Bird Channel members are a small group, but we have a voice to cry out for changes. We are not a commodity. We are loving, feeling, sensitive Creatures that deserve respect, care and to be loved for who we are!

  Hi Susan
Hello everybirdie, Sweetie here on this Memorial Day long weekend. I again must say I am sorry for missing yesterday but Momma Deb had to visit a very talented Indian Ringneck named Max to clip his nails for his Momma. Problem is to get there was a very long drive across country. Needless to say Max looks great, and to make up for the nail grooming he received a Chuey's Chewable Bird Toy Creations, round peg boards to play with.
Max's Mom had contemplated adding another fid to the household. However after talking to my Momma she has decided to keep on loving Max and an pass on adopting another Parrot. Max is quite spoiled, and very well cared for and love. I doubt he would have been any to happy to see another Companion Parrot moving in on his home territory.
The conversation over lunch drifted to the topic of Parrots of course. Max's Mom had recently watched a television commercial telling people to Adopt! Don't Shop! for a Companion Parrot. She had never seen the commercial before and it caught her off guard, but also made her begin to think. She does not recall the name of the Rescue other then it was in the USA. How wonderful it would be if Rescues could come together to finance, through donations and Corporate sponsors television advertisements or magazine advertisements encouraging Adoption of Parrots over buying from a store/breeder/bird Mart etc. Companies advertise to cause consumers to purchase brand "A" over brand "B". I am certain it would work on potential owners of Companion Parrots in like manner. If even one Parrot was adopted from each Rescue what a difference it could begin to make.
Parrot ownership ( ugh, I dislike that term) is a privilege, not a right. When the World begins to realize this truth, we Parrots will begin to gain the respect we rightfully deserve. Our friendship can not be purchased, forced from us or bullied out of us. We are wild flying Creations that were meant to spend our days being Parrots, not a cage ornament or room accent. While on FB today I saw someone's cool off-handed comment to a Parront who has just lost a fid. Suggesting she buy another to replace her baby. It is sad to think this person is someone who has a bird. Love from a Companion Parrot can not be purchased with all the money in the World. You have to earn it, on our terms.
NOW FOR TODAY'S QUESTION; Please share with us one or two of the hurls you encountered when first bringing home your fid(s). Also how about some of the best, most touching moments as well. The greatest over-coming moment when you just knew you and your Fid were happily bonded for life!

Come visit me, Mr and Mrs Sky and BB Thrift, Little Angel, jesse & Queen Sweetie, Thank-you friends for BOTM.

  Hi Susan
Happy, healthy Friday to everybirdie. It's looking to be a great long-weekend for all my BC friends in the US. I am very delighted by the responses you are sharing with us. I hope everybirdie takes the time to read them too. There is a lot to consider when it comes to sharing your home with a Companion Parrot. When my Momma Deb started with birds, there was so little written about them it was a hit or miss situation when it came to care, housing and health. Today, with the internet at our finger tips, and countless books on various species, self-educating is a joyous and necessary component to be availed by all. We never know it all, and learning is a life time effort. Everyday with a Companion Parrot offers opportunities to observe or learn something new and valuable.
Many of us wish to adopt a new fid into our homes, hearts and flocks but there are so many considerations beyond species to work through. I must say this topic was brought to me by our dear friend Eva Kline of the famed K K Koral. It is something we need to look at when thinking of the addition of a brand new flock member in an established flock. That is the dreaded "quarantine" .
It would be the very rare home that can provide us with "IDEAL" conditions to quarantine an incoming bird. So with this knowledge what can we do? and what is not ok to do? To correctly quarantine a new Parrot you need a room, that is supplied with it's own source of air, preferably filtered intake and exhaust. Many Avian diseases are air-borne. Simply separating a new Parrot from the flock within the same household does not prevent contamination and disease spread through the air, air vents and whenever the door is opened to care for the new comer. The false belief that changing your clothing, shoes etc after caring for the new comer WILL NOT prevent the spread of disease.
By definition all quarantine of Avians is to be done in a building separate from ALL other birds in a flock. It must have it's own air filtration system to prevent spread of airborne disease particles and be tended by someone who does not come into contact with other Parrots during the quarantine period. Separation of the flock and new comer by floors within the same home is not considered fully quarantined. Although changing clothes, shoes and showering before entering and after being in contact with the new fid will work greatly to help stop cross infection.
The recommended method of quarantine suggests that all incoming new flock members have TWO sets of blood testing done at intervals advised by your Veterinarian to screen for Avian diseases. However, unless the Parrot is shedding a virus, a false negative can occur.
NOW FOR TODAY'S QUESTION: what other suggestion do you have for bringing home that new flock member?

Come visit me, Mr and Mrs Sky and BB Thrift, Little Angel, jesse & Queen Sweetie, Thank-you friends for BOTM.
