Daddy had a friend that knew about me and my situation. See I had a wonderful mom for 25 years and she died last year. Her son tried to keep me but I didn't like him and he did not know what to do with me so he gave me to another lady. She didn't know what to do with me either. I have been sad and now hope mom and I will learn to trust each other. In just two days I am starting to get closer to her but won't let her touch me yet.
Update: Well mom got a phone call this morning from the vets office. Mom said she is going to have to give me a different name because the vet said I am a boy. Mom was looking at a name like Hidalgo which means noble one. I guess that fits.
Newest update: Mom and I turned a corner this week - She can hold me now once she gets me away from my cage so we are making progress.

  About crimson belly conures
Hi so glad you stopped by and said Hi to my Joseph. Yes we still have him...He is a precious bird. He is sweet and spunky. I think they make great pets. I would only buy one from a breeder who has hand fed them and spent a lot of time with them. They are not as domesticated as say the sun conures or green cheek conures....Handling them daily is so important. They love to be with their "humans". They are so content with a good diet and lots of chew toys in their cage. Mine all love leather to chew on and toys made with wicker...hanging foot toys are good and mine love bells. We love our crimsons. If you are really thinking about getting one I highly recommend you check that is where we got our Joseph from. This is a family passion of their and I don't know of any place that socializes their birds as well as these people do.

Come visit me, Joseph & Keeya Tucson.

  Hi Hilda!
Sky Pilot here, sorry it's taken me so long to fly by but I left you a vote. I wanted to tell you that it's OK to take your time with your new parents. I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds like your new parents are being patient with you and provided a nice place to live and that you have new toys! I was very scared when I met my new mom too! She did the same things and now I have been with her for 1 1/2 yrs and I really do love her and play now but it took me a while. Sometimes I'm afraid that she will leave me too, but she keeps coming back to me. I hope you can accept that your new parents are understanding and love you too. If you wanna talk, just fly on by.

Come visit me, Cielito Lindo, Jalapeno & Sky Pilot.

  Hello Hilda
I got Sarah from a woman who lost interest in her. She got dogs and spent more time with them and Sarah was showing her anger by biting. Sarah now is part of my family. Sarah is actually a boy but I did not get her tested until 6 months and I had already gotten use to Sarah. I tried changing his name but kept forgetting so Sarah it is. Besides he has been called that for 14 years so be knows Sarah and not the other name I tried to call him. And for me it does not matter what you call your bird. Just that you give Hilda all your love.

Come visit me, Jupiter, Sarah & Kitty-o.

Ceasuar here a bluefront Amazon. I am a male to. I am so glad you found a good and loving home. Glad to hear that mom is making progress with you and that she can get close to you away from your cage. Tell her to be patient and loving and you will warm up to her. After us amaazons get to trust we develope quite a bond so it is well worth all the time devoted to us because we are quite loyal and you know with are displays when we do not want to be messed with. Mom has a time with me from April till August because my hormones say to bred but usually mom and I get along very well except when she has to clip my toe nails I do not really care for that.   Hello from Jade!
I am a Lilac-crown, too! But I am only 5 years old. You sure do look great for 25. If you are starting to pluck, maybe mommy can give you more showers, like every other day or rotate your toys out so you have new ones. This doesn't always work, though, cause my flock mate Sunkist still plucks and our mom does all that stuff, too. She thinks Sunkist is jealous of Starburst and the attention she gets from Daddy. Anyway, I hope we can be friends. It is not every day that I get to meet another LCA. Here's a vote for ya. C ya later!

  hi hilda for now,
that is such great news!! maybe if I was to get away from my cage I would warm up to my Mom too. The only thing is I jump down and run along the floor, Mom calls it my cat and mouse game. Mom is worried about me because I am beginning to pluck and she says I am such a pretty bird and it worries her alot. take care and talk to you soon. p.s. Mom did not know anyone had written to us because her email does not always tell us when she has a message. here's a vote for you beautiful...

  hi H...boy
well the breeding season starts around April and last into the summer. He should start to slow down with the hormones not to long from now but i don't know the age. It is a good idea not to feed him warm wet foods and do not cover his cage during the day even a little, just at night and no cozy tents ect. also shorten his day light hours a little if he is very aggressive. you only have to worry about these things during his season. He will probably get worse if you try to handle him much right now but he will be a great companion otherwise. My friend has a male like yours and thats what she does for her bird and what we do with our male eclectus. good luck and goodnight for now, JoAnne and Pepper...

so you lived 25 years with everyone calling you a girl? we bet that was frustrating! well now it will be easier to understand your moods. males are much more hormonal than female amazons. this is their breeding season, so maybe it will be better to interact with you in a couple of months. that is so great that everyone knows your secret now. talk to you later, Pepper and all...

Come visit me, Pepper, J.B. (Jamie Bond girl 007), Teddy, Phebe, Daisy Jane & Alex.

  hi hilda,
well we still have not held Pepper. she is just so fearful, even a dowel makes her so scared she acts like she will bite. So no hands near her, only she will hold my finger through the cage bars and then i give her a treat such as a nut she really loves. At first i would just sit by her cage and read and not look at her. she has come a long way for her since then. now she just needs to take that step without the bite so needless to say we are both scared. good luck, keep us posted on her progress. she is beautiful!!

  hi hilda,
my daddy died suddenly, he was only 24 years old. I have been in my new home for a week on the 4th. we have an amazon, (Pepper) at our house that no one can handle, we don't know the story behind her so it makes it very hard. she is sweet but will not let anyone touch her right leg so she won't step-up, she will bite. she may have had her band removed on that leg. we know Hilda will come around she has been handled hasn't she? just give her time. we have a dyh who was mistreated and is now the most loving girl. she is living with skin sister now, her name is Sierra. here's a vote for you, You are so pretty!!, Phebe and flock...

  Hi Hilda
Hang in there we had a similar situation last year with a blue fronted amazon named Luigi. He had a bad habit of biting people. He has gotten lots better letting my mom and dad pick him up know. He still doesnt like me though. Oh well I sneak in his cage when he isnt looking and eat his goodies. I will vote for you. Petey

Come visit me, Petey.
