My previous owner fell ill and could no longer take care of me. I had to be rehomed. My new family came to visit and well I fell in love with the jewelry on my mom. We kinda clicked from there. Mom still has a bit to learn, being a first time bird owner, but we are trying to make it through..

  Hi KC!
My Mom takes me to Welborn Pet Hospital in KCK. We see Dr. Swanson there. He does handle birds but you should call first to see if he is taking any new patients....oh and be sure you make an appointment if he is. That way little birdies like you and I don't get scared in the waiting room when those BIG dogs come in. Good luck! Leaving a vote for you!

Love,

Sissy

Come visit me, Sissy & Grady.

  Hello!
Welcome to the world of 'tiels! What sort of diet does your mom feed KC? There are pros and cons to both seed and pelleted diets. While pelleted diets are preferred, studies have shown that 'tiels on a pellet only diet are prone to kidney disease. Those on a seed only diet are prone to fatty liver disease. My mom read the other day that a study at UC Davis stated that the best diet for 'tiels is as follows: 25% seed, 25% pellets, 25% veggies/fruit, 15% rice/corn/bean mix, and 10% table scraps such as bread or pasta. Sometimes it can be very hard to get us 'tiels to try different things because we get so set in our ways! Since you are so young, it would be a good idea if your mom would start introducing you to some veggies such as peas and corn. Frozen ones are the best as they don't contain salt or any of those other things that us tiels don't need! Also dark green leafy veggies like spinach or kale or beet greens(pesticide free) are good choices. Your mom can even give you dandelion greens if they are not contaminated with pesticides, fertilizers or animal urine. If needed, sprinkle veggies with a bit of seed to encourage KC to sample them. Some birds like raw carrots grated or in chunks clipped to their cage bars. Try grating some and putting it with some brown rice. We like carrots that way the best. Also we like carrots if mom uses a potato peeler to slice them long and thin. She then clips them to the cage bars. Just don't give up and try different ways of serving them. Our diet each day is as follows: About 1 tablespoon of Roudybush mini pellets all day; 1 tsp of seeds; carrot, spinach or sugar snap peas and a 2-3" piece of millet twice a week. We also get a sample of what she has for dinner occasionally - if it's healthy for us. I hope this is in any way helpful to your mom! A BC friend gave mom a web site for cockatiel info at cockatielcottage.net. Check it out!

  Hi KC!
Welcome to Bird Channel! Yes, we do live close to each other....You look a lot like me....you must be a cinnamon pearl cockatiel too. I am currently sitting on 4 eggs, but they are not fertile. I seem to have a problem being a chronic egg layer. Who is your vet? Leaving you a vote!

Love,
Sissy
