My first family used to have me stay here when they would travel abroad, so I got to know my new mom & dad quite well before they adopted me. It broke my heart when my old family moved far away because they were so good to me, but they came back to visit and assured me they still love me. It took a while to adjust, but now I've been here longer than there and I don't get down too often anymore.. |

Hi! My name is Indie
I am an African Grey from Baldwin, WI.
Indie Boo, Boo Berry
14 years old F
African Grey
I love apples, wiggly pastas, cherry tomatoes, little raisin boxes, peanuts, fresh carrots, pea pods, and whatever yogurt Mom's eating is the best thing ever.
On Daddy! I love my Daddy so much because he always has cool things in his pockets and he lets me lick the outside of his cold beer bottle. His eyeglasses are fun to play with, too, and he thinks everything I do is amazing and funny. I also like to hide in the big schefflera.
I hate that I don't get to go outside much anymore since we moved to the country. Too many hawks and falcons waiting to eat me! I don't get to spend as much time in the screen tent as I'd like, but Mom keeps promising we'll build a screen porch that's fit for a queen like me that will keep me safe and happy.
I like my big playgyms and the fact that I get to be outside my wee hoose all day since Mommy stays home with us. I want to make friends with Holly but she's kind of a bully so I usually keep my distance. Cosmo is interesting, but bitey. Since I lost one toe as a bappy (before Mom knew me), I stay away from Cosmo to make sure I keep my other seven toes in tact!
I really worried my mom when I shredded almost all my feathers. You should have seen her almost faint when she came home on Thanksgiving to find I'd removed every last one of my beautiful red tail feathers. I've kept her busy trying to figure me out. She took me to the vet (I loved the car rides but the shots were a bummer) to make sure I was okay. Once she started to figure out I'm just very sensitive and expressing myself, she began to relax a bit. Now I have a few red feathers and I'm beginning to grow in my chest feathers again. I think I did Mom a favor by teaching her to relax a little. She doesn't freak out anymore when I bite my toenails or chomp off a little feather here and there. Come to think of it, shredding isn't as much fun as it used to be so I do it much less now..
"More!".

Hi Indie Sly here. Welcome to you also and here's your Grey vote. I know what you mean about the feathers. I've managed to calm my mom down too....well, when I'm not chasing dad. Hey do you get boxes to shred? I LOVE to chew up boxes! Mom can't have any she plans to keep within beak reach. Since I've been chewing boxes I have been leaving my feathers alone. Fly on over when you can.Come visit me, Shaggy--2010-2013, Ipo, Sidney ~~ALWAYS IN MY HEART~~6/1996-2/2013, Oatie Odette, Kiwi, Sophie O'Too *READY TO PLAY BALL*, Ike & Punkin *LET'S PLAY BALL*.

Hi Indie! I'm bringing a vote for you and I gave one to Holly, too! Feather plucking can be hard on both bird and human! I never learned how to preen from my parents because I was handfed, so I always had problems with plucking. It wasn't until I became sexually mature that my plucking got worse -just like our vet said may happen. At one time I was so bad that I pulled out my tailfeathers when they were still growing and I broke one once and lost a lot of blood! Mom had to collar me for a while because of that. When my feathers were regrown she'd take off my collar. She was so proud of me when I stopped pulling out my tailfeathers and preened them normally! I do have a bare tummy, back and legs though. Mom doesn't even notice that anymore! She loves me for me, not my feathers! I couldn't have picked a better pet human! Fly by and visit us anytime! Birdie hugs and love bites, Chicklet and co.Come visit me, Joey, Cleo, Chicklet-Thanks everybirdie! Wow!, Poppy & Sunny.
