 Three weeks ago I sustained an injury to my back from another bird in the flock and because of the injury I can not longer use my feet. The vet wanted to euthanize me but mom just could not do it. She loves me so much. The Vet said I would have no quality of life without being able to perch,stand,or walk. Thank you so much every birdie for coming by today to congratulate me on being your Queen today. Your visits mean so much to me and my mom and I appreciate all your prayers for me. It is a great pleasure to see you all on my page with your well wishes and congratulations- . There are so many generous birds and parronts here on BC from Miss Lucy's mom Susan who stopped by to congratulate me before going to the hospital to check on Lucy's dad. That brought tears to mom's eyes and then there are Romeo,Sugar,Max- ie, Christy,Jenny Lynn, Trilly, Star, Hulk, and BJ along with so many numerous other birds like Falco,Mayo,Chic- klet,Joey, Snowball, Oatie, Miss Lucy, Merlin, and Chico. Then there is Sam who is a friend of my flock and a most handsome and distinguished Grey. He is going to dance with me tonight and being that I can not use my feet to dance with him he is going to hold me in his wings and we will just do are dancing in the air. Then when Sam is done dancing with me I know he will gently place me back in my wheelchair. Oatie came by today with his flock and gave me flowers. Gabe who is a most gentle and kind M2 and who is now in the kissing booth came by yesterday to rock me gently to sleep so I would get plenty of rest for my big day today. All the kind and caring birds here on BC have shown me such kindness and gentleness after my injury and have brought tears to my mom's eyes. She and I are so very grateful for them along with the wonderful prayers for me. We thank Pico, Alex and the girls and Big Baby for offering me some corn bread because I need to eat more,both Ranebeau and Sugar for there compassion, and all the other numerous birds. Mom and I wish we could list them all but we can't. All we can do is thank them from the bottom of mom's heart and my little quaker heart. Thanks again for your heartwarming visits,congratu- lations, prayers, and for the well wishes. Last but not least I went to thank my good friend Snowball(Snowy) for nominating me for BOTD and letting me have this wonderful honor.

As Charlie and Cookie make their way to the park
they can smell how the grass was just cut . . . ahhhhhh, that smells sooo GOOD ! They slow the bike down just a little to be able to enjoy it. Further on the spot some wild queen anne's lace on a small hill. Cookie stops the bike and waddles up the hill to cut a few of them. get back after their picnic - Charlie is wearing a beautiful daisy chain around her neck that Cookie made for her. They are singing "Tip-toe through the Tulips" and smiling :)

Cookie comes to pick up Charlie
for their picnic - he's packed all their favorite snacks, a blanket to sit on, books to read, his i-pod with all their best songs, and a pillow in case they get tired and want a nap. He's even packed a magnifying glass so they can study the bugs on the grass around them !

snuggle together on the sofa sharing a blueberry muffin while they compare the Easter treasures the bunny left each of them. Cookie tells Charlie he got 4 plastic eggs ! One with almonds, one with popcorn, one with a bell and one with nutriberries ! But most fun was rolling the eggs around the table and hearing the noises they made !

Happy Spring Charlie !
Even if it is chilly . . . I think we should bundle up and head out looking for robins and bunnies and buds on the trees. Mama Theresa gets Charlie settled in Cookie's wagon and off they head.
They sing as they head out . . . "Here comes Peter Cottontail . . ." when Charlie yells STOP COOKIE ! a couple days, Cookie arrives at Wallops Island to spend the rainy weekend. He dumps his backpack by the door and crries the bigger bag into the living room to show Charlie what he brought. I can't believe the last day of my campaign is here. This has been a most extrordinary month and I have loved every minute of it ! I have made so many new friends and reconnected with some I've been out of touch with. So I want to take today to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my quaker heart for your friendship, love and support :) And a very special thanks to Tiamarie's mom for her help !

Since it's finally moderating
Charlie and Cookie decide to tentatively make springtime plans . . . meanwhile they practice singing sea chanties so they'll be ready for this year's voyage !
Another story of a human-bird relationship - SHARING A ROBIN'S LIFE by Linda Johns is the true story of a robin named County who chose to share life with the author after being rescued as a fledgling. Although County is a free flying house bird, the author tries to give her as close to a natural life as possible. This includes nest building, foraging for food and egg laying. Marvelous !

One last children's picture book - TERRIFIC by Jon Agee is about Eugene Mudge, a pessimistic old curmudgeon. He wins a free trip to Bermuda and of course everything goes wrong ! He ends up shipwrecked on a deserted island with a broken winged parrot named Lenny. Lenny's help and friendship end up being the catalyst for Eugene's transformation and rescue ! It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Sky
"There you are" Sky says as he sneaks past Charlie's Momma resting on the sofa. "I heard your Mom is not feeling well. I decided to kidnap you."
Charlie giggles then puts her wing over her beak.
"Come on, I brought you a thermal basket to ride in with it's own heating system"
Sky helps load Charlie into her basket and heads for the door. Stopping to put a note on the table telling where Charlie would be and with whom.
"Let's fly to the Moon base tonight" Charlie laughs as Sky heads straight up into the night sky. " Wait. Better idea let's go to the KB for a movie. Way to cold to be outside
Charlie and Cookie fix a big bowl of popcorn and go through the stack of dvd's to make today a movie day !
No wind here, but brrrrrrrrrrrrr . . . we're not supposed to get out of the 20's today ! At least after today mom won't have to go out in it till Tuesday ! I love long weekends :)
Another reference book today - HOLISTIC CARE FOR BIRDS : A MANUAL OF WELLNESS AND HEALING by David McCluggage and Pamela Leis Higdon is a practical and comprehensive guide to bird care. It includes sections on emotional well-being, anatomy, nutrition, recognizing illness or injury and homeopathic treatments. There are numerous appendices on finding avian vets, helpful websites, suppliers of homeopathic remedies, and a bibliography for further reading. Straight forward and easy to read !

Today we're taking a picture book break ! Me and mom love picture books too ! This one is IF I NEVER FOREVER ENDEAVOR by Holly Meade. It's about a baby bird snuggled in the nest trying to decide whether to fledge or not. Adventure vs. anxiety . . . something all humans can relate to - plus the illustrations are wonderful !

It's so foggy
I can't see the wild birds out back at the feeders, so I put my boots on and came down here to spend the day. Look ! I brought some of mom's books ! We can read, toss or chew ! ! ! So many things to do with a good book . . .

Today's book is very close to my little green heart for a couple reasons - TANGO IN AMERICA by Steve Baldwin with Alison Evans-Fragale is about my wil quaker frothers in the USA. Tango is a young quaker looking for her father. During her search she faces many challenges and learns about life, love and growing up. Probably best categorized as a young adult book. That one was so cute
Cookie and Charlie sigh as mama Theresa closes the book. Cookie tells Charlie that mom is looking for other picture books just for the two of them !
Today's book review is WESLEY THE OWL by Stacey O'Brien, a biologist who specializes in wild animal behavior. She rescues a baby owl with an injured wing and over the next 19 years she studies and falls in love with Wesley. This is the story not only of their relationship, but all the author learned about owl behavior, intelligence and communication.

Charlie and Cookie
snuggle together on the sofa on either side of mama Theresa - she's going to read them today's story . . .
Today's book choice is for the child in all of us - a picture book ! CHICKADEES AT NIGHT by Bill O. Smith and illustrated by Charles R. Murphy chronicles the life of these sweet little birds, of their dances, rides upon owls, spa visits - actually, it sounds like they've spent some time here on BC with us ! Besides the charming story and pictures, it is full of chickadee facts. Darling !
