Hi! My name is Bakura

I am from Levittown, PA.

Baby Girl, Turkey, Chocolate Milk

10 years old   F

Safflower seed, millet spray, spagetti, bread...all in moderation of course.

On the floor, foraging, on my books when I read, and on my laptop when I type. She just loves to be around me, no matter what.

Her mate, the General. lol He tends to get on her nerves every now and then.

She makes sure that I'm always safe, and she always says good morning and good night. She gave me a mate, and let me raise my own family. She doesn't clip my wings. She lets me be a dove.

Sitting on people's heads, and eating everything BUT seed off the carpets. (she's going to give me a heart attack one of these days) If you're sitting down for dinner, and she is out, she will fly RIGHT into your plate of food, no matter what it is, and help herself...Me casa es su casa?..?.

  Pretty Bakura
How are my pretty dove friends in PA? I thought you would enjoy knowing that the little doves here are doing just fine. When fall nights grew quite cool, the doves moved into the house to the birdroom with me. Their cooing is a frequent sound I hear, both during the day and often at night! My mom is surprised that I have not picked up their soft calls or that silly almost-laugh that the male has. Maybe I feel that only a dove could make those sounds the best and just leave the calling to him. He does it so well. Hoping this finds all of you happy and healthy. Kisses from K *v*

  Bakura!
Thank you so much for coming by with congratulations on this very special occasion. I'd have never realized this amazing honor had it not been for a group of my friends that decided one day they wanted to see if they could make some birdie a Queen. Lucky for me, I was picked to be their Pet Project. How could I turn down their offer of love and friendship?! So, my quiet little secluded existence here on the BC suddenly went quite public and before I could flap a wing I had dozens, no hundreds of visitors and votes on my page. I've been up till 2 & 3 every night for a week now! Mom's developing Crow's feet by her eyes from all the computer time I've insisted she provide me with in order to thank all those who left me a note. ~Mr. & Mrs. Dovey are doing very well together. Mr. D adores his small brown gal, singing to her often and showing off for her benefit. He's even taken to collecting leaves and feathers and packing them into a basket that hangs on the wall of their aviary; I think he'd like to start a family! But she's not yet interested; she sits with him in his very comfy nest but I've seen no sign of amorous behavior and I'd know about it if there was- I've been out in the BirdBarn a lot this summer, sitting on a large branch that's been hung from the ceiling just for me. One of these days I plan to surprise mom with my own rendition of Mr. Dovey's song, I think it will move mom more than it moves Mrs. Dovey. Again, thanks for coming by. Sneak back sometime and tell me what your flock has done over the summer months. I'll do the same and let you know what's the newest around here. Until then, hugs... K *v*

  Beautiful Bakura!
All is well here with me! I was planning to write to you today as I wanted to tell you that our Mr. Dovey has him a friend now! (Picture to be posted as soon as I'm done wiriting.) She's a pretty little thing, not as gorgeous as you in your pristine beauty but a dolly just the same. She's only four months and quite tame having been raised by a couple of young gals who love their birds like you do. You needn't worry about your note sounding like a lecture... it sounds to me like you genuinely care for birdies and their quality of life. I assure you, my new dovey friends are not paired up with the intention of breeding. In all honesty, mom's not even sure whether one is a male/one a female. All that's hoped is that they're happy with the companionship of another dove. Should eggs be produced, well, they'll likely get replaced with 'fakes'. One or two youngsters might be allowed at a later date but those would just become a part of the big family here. Mom can't stand to part with any of her 'babies'. 'Once here, always here' is the practice. As for questions, yes, I'd like to ask just what your mom serves to you as your main diet as well as what fresh foods your flock likes. I know from your profile that you're happy to help yourself to mom's plate of food so I take it you like about anything! Another question, do you have a grit mix available to you? Mom wants me to be sure and thank you for being willing to help her provide the best possible care to her little doves. She's hoping I soon learn their pretty cooing. They do such a nice job of it I don't think I should even try. I do a pretty good Macaw imitation tho; LOUD!! Here's a wish that your weekend will be a gorgeous one. K *v*

Bakura! Thank you so much for your warm welcome to my dovey friend. He's been cooing and calling a lot; he'll even 'talk' to mom when she comes into the aviary where he's living. Maybe by Sunday there'll be a Mrs. Dovey; mom's hoping to visit with someone who raises doves. If the right one is available she'll have a new home! I hope she's as pretty as you! Thank you for your offer of information should my mom have any questions. I think she should ask you what your base diet consists of. Haven't got a picture posted yet of our pretty boy but I'll let you know when there's one ready. For now I'm here to wish you and the whole flock a fantastic Freedom Celebration Day. Hope it's a blast from beginning to end as you party in honor of life, liberty, and happiness. Happy 4th of July! K *v*

  My Dearest Dovie Friend!
Bakura! How are you? It's been so long since we've chatted. I'm sorry about that. I've not perched at the computer and just gone through my whole list of friends in ages. I feel lucky to get a note or two off to my 'BC Boyfriend' some days! I wanted to share something exciting with you; there's a dove living at my house now. Yup! A ring-necked dove. He's so gorgeous, Bakura, and he sings so sweetly. He was all alone at a pet shop with no one to sing to so my dad suggested mom bring him home and try and find him a friend or two to hang out with. He lives in a big flight cage with a bunch of finches out in the Bird Barn; he loves the topmost branch of the limbs that hang from the roof! He also enjoys going out to sit in the sun in the outdoor portion of the aviary. The wild doves sit in the pine tree next to the barn and talk to him; it's so sweet! Now I know what beautiful music your house is filled with; I have one dove here and its gorgeous. There are several more there so it really must be melodious. I so hope you'll discover my note and write back soon as my mom wants me to ask you a couple of questions before a mate is chosen for Lincoln or Link for short tho mom keeps calling him Mr. Dovey. Hoping all is well with you and your flock. May your summer days be endlessly sweet and pleasant... K °v°

Just flappin by to say "Hi". And let me tell you, when I fly it's not nearly as beautiful a sound as when YOU fly, Bakura. Doves' wings make such sweet sounds when they move. I know this because there are seven doves that eat on our front porch most every day and if mom and I get too near the door they take off in a hurry. I wish they'd stay 'cause I'd like to watch them. Mom wishes I could HEAR them 'cause maybe I'd learn to imitate your pretty cooing sound. Instead I'm been sitting here making phone ringtones, sayin' Hello. How ya doin?' Over and over. And over. HaHa I've call the dog so many times here lately she's startin' to ignore mom when SHE calls "Jaina!" Oh, it's fun being a parrot!! Hope your day is filled with things that bring you much happiness, Bakura. Coo a hello to your family for me. Later then, Pretty Gal. K 'v'

So happy to know that you and your flock are all doing just fine! The same can said for me and my horde of feathered accomplices!! We're stayin' warm despite the fact our outdoor temperatures are in the negative degrees. Brrrr. So if an incubator is on the Mom's shopping list does that mean that there are eggs in the nest that might become mini-Bakuras?? Oh, that would be so sweet!! What is it that you're studying there in your last picture? It looks like a map of outer space. Planning some big migratory trip? If you ask me, life looks wonderful right where you're at, Ms B, you beautiful dove! Nothing of great excitement to relay from my house. I've been keepin' busy whittlin' away at wicker laundry baskets (bought especially for me), straw hats, rolls of adding-machine paper. I've figured out all the puzzle toys Mom's invested in so none of them keep me occupied for more than a dozen seconds. She once loaded all seven that I have, hung them in my cage all at once and timed me. It took less than a minute for me to open them all up. I didn't even stop to eat the treat inside—I just wanted the fun of hearing the toy pop open or fall apart when I did just the right thing to it!! Later I went back and ate the peanuts, fruit and popcorn at a leisurely pace while Mom browsed through the bird catalogue in search of something possibly more challenging for me!! Bring it on!! No wonder doves are the symbol of peace... you're content with quiet songs and a tranquil atmosphere. Us Grays are driven crazy by a constant quest to check everything out, see how quickly we can take stuff apart!! It's a nice thing that the bird world is full of variety, isn't it! Good day to you, Bakura. To you and your flock! K 'v'

Bakura! How are ya, Pretty Girl? You and your flock doing ok I hope. I can't believe it's been MONTHS since we've chit-chatted together! Life is too short to go without talkin' with friends. So, tell me, how was your Day of Thanksgiving? Mine was a right nice day; grandparronts joined the festivites and all sat around talking for hours. You'd think they hadn't seen these people for months! when in fact both Dad's and Mom's parronts live just next door and across the street! I see them all the time!! Anyway, a nice time was had by all. I didn't utter a peep during the entire meal though I could see the food-laden table from my house. It wasn't until the group migrated to the family room where a fire was blazin' that I finally kicked into 'chatter-mode' and after having been quiet for hours I had lots to say. Every so often I'd pause with the dog barkin', cat meowin', guinea pig squealing, phone conversatin', crazy parrot routine to see if anyone was listening. Sure enough, I could hear the folks chuckling and talkin' about me! Ahhhh, an African Grey's favorite response! Do hope your day was a blessed one and that this long weekend has offered you an extra measure of time with your Mom! Birdie kisses... K 'v'

So you've just completed a molting session, huh? Well, I bet it feels good to be done with that project! I can't recall the last time I went through that. Personally, I'm happy with the feathers I've got right now. Bein' itchy and havin' to preen, preen, preen is just so time-consuming! You were beautiful before; I imagine you're now EXTRA gorgeous, what with a whole new 'outfit'! It was sweet of your mate to go through the ordeal with you; helps take the emphasis off your appearance when someone else looks the same as you! I've not been on these pages much lately. Mom went away on business for some eight long days during which I didn't have access to a computer. For some reason no one trusts me around a keyboard... I hear talk about our weather cooling down which means that summer is loosening its grip on the outdoor world. Maybe this means that soon Mom wouldn't have to spend so much time in the yard wrestling with the weeds and fast growing grass. I get to hang out with her when she's working but it certainly does cut into our time peckin' notes to our birdie friends! Hope all is well with you and the flock, your Mom included. Everythings grand here! Take care, Pretty Gal. K 'v'

I just got over a molt, and I was scaring mommy for a while! I looked very sick, but it was only because all my feathers were regrowing, and it looked funny! My mate went through it at the same time too, so he made me feel not so bad about my image :) We were quite the pair. Now, we both have beautiful new feathers, and we've been ::obsessively:: preening to keep them in tip top shape. Mommy thinks we're beautiful no matter what!

Bakura...you have several new pictures! Very pretty. Are you outdoors in the last one? It appears you're watching the sky! There's lots there to keep an eye on, huh! I'm going to have to start wearing on of those dreadful harnesses when I go outside...my wings aren't clipped and I could fly for miles if I decided to take off. The other picutre really shows off the markings in your wings. Very pretty indeed. I have a couple new pics up on my page but the one's not going to stay long...I allowed Mom to post it only to show my friend Poirot that I too chew holes in boxes. Mine just happened to be a TP box...rather an embarressing thing to be caught playing in! The second picture, of me with a bowl of cereal, is one of the 'proof' shots...proof that I'm the one who was eating out of my featherless brother's bowl of cereal when he walked off and left it unattended for a mere second or two! That was long enough for me to get a taste or two in!! Hope all is well with you and your flock! Later... K 'v'

New pictures!! They're beautiful! (Are they all of you or are any of them other Doves in your flock?) Is that your Mom you're with? She's beautiful too! This past weekend my mom had the chance to go to a local Pigeon Society Sale...there are always lots of different types of birds and animals there, inlcuding doves. But she declined to attend because she knew she'd want to bring something home...most likely a pair of doves! But there's a Rescue Foundation that has a pretty little pair waiting for a new home...mom's seriously thinking about bring them home! You'll be the first to know if she does!! I myself am doing just fine...got to spend a little time this afternoon outdoors in my little aviary, listening to the wild birds do their thing.   Hello Bakura!
Nice to hear from you! So you have 7 other doves in your flock...what a lovely chorus you all must make. I'd love to hear you! If I could listen for just a little while I could learn how to coo like you. I love to imitate other birds. There are cockatiels here at my house (5 of them!) and I can get them all excited by calling out to them from another room, get them to thinking there's an invader or company. Man, do they get wound up! My mom plays a canary CD and I can now sing like a male canary. Mom says she need not own a canary with me around. Only problem is I throw in a crazed chimpanzee and a barking dog mid-canary song which Mom says ruins the mood. So, if she wants nothing but Canary, guess she's going to have to get the real thing! Same thing would certainly be true of dove cooing. I'm bound to add in a whistled rendition of "Charge!" and a meowing cat to a cooing concert... Only a dove like you will do a really nice job, right?! Nite nite, my flighted friend.

Bakura, how are you doing? Wonder what dovey thing you've been keepin' yourself busy with. I see that you enjoy sitting on people's heads...does that mean that you are fully flighted or do you hike all the way up to the top of a human? My feathers have grown out completely over the winter and I fly now whenever I want to relocate...beats having to hike down off the cage, across the floor past the dog, then up the back of a chair. Stay sweet! Later, K.

I just have to get this out. Why doesn't bird talk ever have anything special on doves? To be featured on the cover of the magazine would be absolutely amazing. I've studied doves extensively, so I know very much about them, but I would love for other people to go, "wow, doves are birds too?!" who knew. I feel that these wonderful creatures don't get enough credit, and maybe I just might learn a thing or two if they become the featured bird.

Tweety needs your votes for her poem. Her foot had to be amputated Feb. 26th due to the main blood supply being cut in her leg. We had to separate her from her cage mate. I wanted to get her a big cage to move (fly around) in and after paying 258.00 for her leg to become amputated we could not afford to buy her the cage of her dreams. We notice that she flies a little to get around her cage and can defiantly use a bigger one. Thank you; please visit her web site at www.1luckybird.com
