 A friend responded to an ad in the paper from a couple who were downsizing their "parrot collection". Needless to say, many of their parrots were miserable and unhealthy. Taylor stood out with his beautiful coloring as he sat alone in a room overcrowded with cages. My friend could see the sweet and docile nature of this bird in his gorgeous big eyes. She knew he was in need of rescue. He had no name with many obvious medical handicaps that cause him difficulty with balance and vision. Now he shares his life with a loving family who spends time with him each day.
9/20/09 - UPDATE Since Taylor was a wild caught bird with no way to know his Hatchday, we are celebrating the anniversary of his resue as his special day (9/22). His Rescue Parronts of 10 1/2 months nursed his wounds and nurtured him with a nutritious diet and lots of love, but they longed to find a home for Taylor where he could have more individual attention than they could give him in their flock. When they heard that our 7 yr. old cockateil "Baby" had died of a cold, they asked if we would consider taking Taylor. My friend even brought him to the Veterans (nursing) Home where Taylor's "New Daddy"(who has M.S.) lives, so that we could meet him. It was love at first sight for me. Taylor has been with me for 6 weeks now and has adapted so well! Not only does he enjoy cuddles and head skritches, but allows me to skritch his wings and under his wings. He even lets me gently message his crippled and terribly arthritic feet. Taylor's Rescue Mom taught me to cover 2/3rds of the bottom of his cage with a short cut pile carpet to cushion his feet. Since Taylor only poo's over the paper area when he is on his wide perch, cage housekeeping is a cinch! I put carpet on part of the floor of his travel cage as well. Our daily walks with Daisy dog give Taylor sunshine as well as socialization. His travel cage sits on the seat of an old walker so he doesn't get jostled as much as when I carry him. He no longer "wheezez" at strangers, so this week I will begin to take him with Daisy and I when we go to visit "Daddy" and the other Veterans. I know this story is long but I want to say "Thank You" again to our friends who Rescued Taylor, and to ALL those who care enough to resue Parrots, etc.. Now Taylor has a new Mommy and Daddy, his"Forever Home", and Daisy Doodle Dog for a furry flockmate.. |

Happy Halloween! I hope you have a spooky good time. We are all gonna help momma give out candy to the trick or treaters. I just love this time of year cause I get to eat lots of pumpkins and pumpkin seeds of course. My favorite part is slinging the mush all over the kitchen.

Have to ask, are you feeling more confident about being touched by the humans who so obviously love and adore you? I had fun the other day on the gym too. We will have to do that again sometime. Happy belated hatchday too! We all had peppers the night before last and made sure to give mommy lots of kisses. She had to go take a bath because she was burning from the peppers. It was funny. Rio really gets carried away with the pepper kisses though. I have been being a good bird lately and have really been trying to hold back on the screaming. Mommy is proud of me. I hope you are having a good day. Talk to ya later.

Yes, I was in quaretine for 30 days. It was sort of scary to start with but I had such a nice lady looking after me that I was OK. Mom on the other hand was a wreck by the time I got out. Hehehe. She had a terrible time, always worried about me. She said that was when she got all her grey hair. And here I was thinking that she grew her grey hair so she would look as pretty as me. Hehehe. You have some beautiful pictures, are there other birds in your flock, I see two in your bottom photographs..I'm sure your Mom and mine would be good friends if they live near each other..She doesn't have any close bird friends other than the ones she's met on the BC, and they have turned into some of the dearest friends she's ever known. When people have a love for birds it connects them in ways that otherwise they might not. I know it must be hard to have your Dad in a VA nursing home, but from my understanding they do have excellent medical care. I hope thats the case with your Dad..I bet he loves it when you come to visit him, it must really brighten his day, it sure would mine..For a while last year my Mom and I were doing some volunteer work at a NH in the little town close to us, she would take me along to entertain the residents and I had so much fun, they all loved to see me come in with Mom and I would perch on their shoulder and Mom would take our picture. It was a fun time for me.

It's very nice to meet you, I ran across you on a friends page read your story and I must admit it touched my heart very much. It's so sad to hear stories like your but with happy endings. So many of our friend have similar experiences and we never get use to hearing their heartbreaking journey through life..I'm so happy for you that you've found someone that loves you very much and your in a home where you can experience all the love and kindness that you deserve. I haven't had that experience as I came to my Mom at 7 mo old and I'm 5 now. I was one of the lucky ones, I'm Romeo a Umbrella Cockatoo from Tn, we're kinda neighbors. I have a Senegal sister CoCoPuff as she calls herself who's 3, she was a rescue also from a loving home but they just didn't have time or took the time to care for her and give her the attention she deserved, now's she's a sweet loving girl as long as you don't cross her, lol. Senegals can be very tempermental at time but she's loved very much and she and I get along quite well. Mom just brought home a baby Grey Rusty, he's been here a few weeks now and is adjusting quite well. I'm sorry to hear your new Dad is in the hospital but I bet you love those visits with Mom. I hope that he'll get to come home and be with you soon..I would love to get to know you better. My Mom is retired and gets to be home with us all the time and we're very spoiled with that.
