HONEY BEAR WAS LOCKED UP IN A PREVIOUS OWNER'S BACK BEDROOM WITHOUT HUMAN CONTACT FOR 6 YEARS.

SHE HAD NO SOCIALIZATION, NO TOYS, POOR DIET, AND A VERY FILTHY CAGE.

IT TOOK ME A YEAR AGO FROM LAST SUMMER TO CONVINCE THE OWNER THAT HONEY BEAR WOULD BE BETTER OFF WITH SOMEONE WHO COULD LOVE AND CARE FOR HER.

HONEY BEAR HAD CHEWED HER WING FEATHERS HALF WAY DOWN AND PICKED HER LEGS AND CHEST BARE.

SHE IS A LOVING BIRD AND AN EXCEPTIONAL TALKER AND WHISTLER.

SHE WILL REQUIRE QUITE A BIT OF REHAB AND TLC, BUT SHE IS RECUPERATING QUICKLY FROM YEARS OF NEGLECT.

I AM A FELLOW WHO IS A RETIRED ARMY HELICOPTER PILOT AND LATELY RETIRED AS A CLINICAL THERAPIST IN ALASKA. I WORKED WITH SEVERELY EMOTIONALLY DISTURBED YOUNG CHILDREN. I DISCOVERED PARROTS ARE NO DIFFERENT. THEY NEED A LOT OF TLC AND WELL DIRECTED CARE. FROM SEVERELY EMOTIONALLY DISTURBED KIDS TO SED PARROTS-A LABOR OF LOVE.

I HAVE A FOSTER SISTER UMBRELLA COCKATOO NAMED SYDNEY ANNE. HER STORY IS PRETTY MUCH THE SAME AS MINE, ONLY SHE WAS POORLY MISTREATED FOR 9 YEARS, BUT SHE RECEIVES THE SAME TLC AS ME AND HAS REGROWN MOST OF HER FEATHERS.

WHEN MOM AND DAD AREN'T AROUND, I NOW HAVE SOMEONE TO PLAY WITH AND PREEN.

  Hi! Honey Bear and Sydney,

So very glad to hear that you both are in a good home. My name is Oz and I'm a Rose Breasted Cockatoo. My Mommy is my 3rd owner and she says that I'm now in my Forever Home. She also wants to know if I know that I'm a Cockatoo cause I'm sweet and very quiet. What does she mean by that? Anyway, Mommy says that there's a place in Hell for people who abuse Animals and any Human Being for that matter. Please stop by and see me and my Family. Before I go I'm gonna leave a vote for each of you. Bye for now.

Come visit me, PARKER, SILVER, APACHE MARRIED HIS LOVE SNOWFLAKE ON 09/20/14, OZ (MY MOMMY'S DREAM BIRD) & CHEYENNE MARRIED HER JEDI ON 09/20/14.

  Hello Honey Bear
I became so sad when I read your heart wrenching story of your loveless life and neglect. I've not experienced that but I have so many Too friends who have similiar circumstances. It breaks my heart to even think of the agony you must have gone through. You are very lucky to have your Mom and Dad to love you and give you everything you need to become all that you were meant to be. Your very beautiful, and I would love for you to visit me. I'm a 5 yr old male Umbrella that got lucky in life and in a home where I'm loved as respected for the handsome Cockatoo that I am. I love my Mom so much and she tells me I've changed her life. The love we share is so wonderful and I tell her all the time just how much I love her..Goodnight princess, hope to see you soon, Romeo

  Hi
WHAT A VERY SAD LIFE YOU HAD,BUT YOU FOUND A MOMMY THAT LOVES YOU NOW.WOW IT MAKES ME SO SAD TO HEAR STORYS OF ABUSED BIRDS! I WAS REALLY LUCKY I FOUND MY MOMMY AT A BREEDERS HOUSE,IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT..
I AM SO SPOILED,I GET OUT OF MY CAGE AROUND 5PM AND GET TO DO WHAT I WANT TO DO ...WILL EXCEPT CHEWING ON MY WALL!!!MOMMMY HAS A BROOM BETWEEN MY CAGE AND MY WALL,OH I HATE THAT BROOM ITS GOING TO EAT ME..
I USED TO CHEW ON MY FEATHERS,NOT BECAUSE OF ABUSE..MOMMY WOULD TAKE TO VETS AFTER VETS TRYING TO FIX THIS..I WOULD JUST SNIP ALL OF MY LONG FEATHERS,
MOMMY CALLED ME HER DUCKATOO,I HAD NO TAIL,MOMMY DIDNT EVEN HAVE TO CLIP MY WINGS ,I DID THAT FOR HER..AFTER TEN YEARS THE VET JUST SAID IT WAS LIKE A HUMAN BITING THERE NAILS ,ITS JUST A HABIT..
THEN ONE DAY MOMMY WENT TO A NEW FEED STORE THAT OPENED UP CLOSE TO WHERE I LIVE,SHE WAS GETTING HAY AND FEED FOR OUR BIG HUGE FLOCK MEMBERS THAT LIVES OUTSIDE..THE OWNER OF THIS FEED STORE BREEDS LARGE BIRDS ,HE TOLD MOMMY TO TRY PRETTY BIRD FOOD FOR COCKATOOS,SO MOMMY DID ,I LOVE IT!!!
ITS BEEN THREE YEARS AND I HAVE MY LONG FEATHERS BACK,LOL MOMMY CAN NOT CALL ME HER DUCKATOO AGAIN,I HAVE MY TAIL THAT IS VERY LONG ,AND I HAVE MY WINGS ..BOY IF I DONT SAY SO MYSELF I AM A VERY GOOD LOOKING BIRD!!HEHEHEHE

  Hello!
What an incredibly sad story! Unfortunately true for many birds.... so glad that you gave Honey Bear a good forever home! I have always had a loving home and consider myself very blessed when I read some of the profiles here on BC. I am a BE2 and am a plucker as well, but I pluck because I was hand fed and never learned how to properly preen as my parents didn't have a chance to teach me. I was doing fine until I became sexually mature and then the plucking worsened as our avian vet said may happen when I matured. I now sport a bikini instead of a one piecer! I have a well trained pet human who loves me and understands me and spoils me rotten! I have several videos posted on BC so check 'em out if you would like to 'see me in action'! Mom has some posted of the 'tiels, too! Fly by and visit our pages as we love the company! Squawk later! C'ya! V4U!

Hugs and Snugs,
Chicklet and co.

Come visit me, In loving memory of my beloved Joey, Cleo, Chicklet, Poppy-Thanks so much everybirdy for BOTD!, Jazz-Thanks everybirdie! What a great surprise! & Sunny.

  Hey HoneyBear =]
I'm glad you finally got your happily ever after. And your new sister Sydney Anne too. Fly by vote & to say hi to a new parront. KiiSan's story was kinda like that except it wasn't as long. He was a pet store bought cockatiel. Who then spent most of he's time in a small cage. With one toy and no interaction with people. I don't really know how old he is.I was told KiiSan is 7months, got him in sept. 2008. kiisan's age is a guess. I've had him the longest. Third owner of this little guy. And we're still working on he's trust issue. Sounds strange but he holds a grudge at people. Take care, see ya later fellow parrot =]

Come visit me, Suta'Tatsu, Ki, Sheero, Fala & Tsunami, Tsume & FireTail, BOO ( R.I.P ) & KiiSan.

It is just unbelievable that someone would mistreat/neglect these beautiful creatures--any animal for that matter. if you aren't going to take care of pets, give them up to someone who can. I am so glad they are both in loving hands. We rescued a cockatiel-Lilly, who had been abused. she has really thrived in a loving environment, but she will not let you touch her. (we know she's happy though-her and Ozzy have "open-door" policy on their cage-they are allowed to explore and are very spoiled. I cannot get them to eat beans, pasta, egg or anything but seed and pellets. I mix several great brands together, but I would love to see them eat real food. any ideas??

Come visit me, OZZY & LILLY!.
