 After we lost our precious, little Daisy, I was at the Bird store and saw him in one of the cages. I've wanted an ekkie for quite awhile. So I asked about him and learned that he needed to be rehomed. His previous owner had two very ill children and had to give him and his flockmates up. He was only two years old and just starting to talk. He was very scared the first time he was taken out of his cage. However, I visited him almost everyday for a month. He soon began to look forward to our visits. He also began to recognize me when I came into the store, and he wanted to come out and visit me. One day my husband was with me and asked me when I was going to bring him home. So I wrote out a check and made arrangements as to when I'd pick him up. It was an excellent decision. He's a delightful, wonderful bird and is very happy in his forever home. He said about three phrases at first. Now, a year later, he says about 20 different things. He loves to talk. My favorite is, "I go poopy, Mama. I'm a GOOD BOY!" He does, too, and he is!!. |

CHEESE, pecans, CHEESE, grape juice, CHEESE, apples, eggs and just about ANY FOOD Mama and Daddy are eating! Did I mention CHEESE? Oh, and I almost forgot, blueberry yogurt, yummm!
 My boing, the baker's rack out on the sun porch (when the weather's warm) and my playstand. I also like to hang out on the fold-down door of my cage, and of course, my fav...on Mama and Daddy.

 Mommy and Daddy love me SO much that they share their food with me. I get to try so many new and delicious things. What bird wouldn't love that? I LOVE to eat, so that's really high on my priority list. I love to take showers with Mommy, and she and I constantly talk to each other. She's taught me many new words and phrases. I love to talk to Mommy, but not Daddy, although I'm getting better about that. Mommy gives me lots of kissies, too, and I say "Kissy" and make the kissy sound. In all, I say about 30 different things now.
 I LOVE being blown dry with the hair dryer after my shower with Mama. I stop talking when my Daddy enters the room. But best of all, I am about 90% potty trained and poopy when and where I'm told to. I don't happen to think that's quirky, do you?.
 What's for dinner??.

Hope you are having a wonderful time in the Castle. I have to mention something odd that I've never seen before on this site. It seems that the BOTD keeps changing from you then it shows ButterBall, a female cockatiel. I've never seen that before??? I am trusting others are seeing it too, because look at all your well wishers who've come for your coronation celebration!!!??? Just when I think I've seen everything strange, again the BirdChannel out does itself. I knew I had blogged Butterball this morning...a "Queen Butterball" you don't forget!!! King Finnegan seems much more distinguished but I thought I was losing my mind!!! I saw your picture while I was looking up parrots in the "species" section. There you are all emerald green & handsome! So, I came instantly because it's a rare thing to see an eclectus in the Castle as BOTD!! As I type your congratulations, Queen Butterball is glaring at me like I've betrayed her!! She can look pretty intimidating! I will leave this basket of lettuce wrapped treats that have some of your favorites inside for you to shred and eat. Sam bows to King Finnegan as he places the basket before him all the while sweating bullets as he sees Queen Butterball glaring from the BOTD spot on the right hand side of the screen. Sam gets a chill up his back and excuses himself before the guards are called. Have a great night King Finnegan! Sam bows quickly & exits out the Throne Room Door looking over his shoulder as he goes!!!!Come visit me, The Silver Sluggers Say Let's Play Bazebol! & Sam says. LET'S PLAY BAZBOL!!!.

V4U today. We are keeping your dad in our prayers. Hope he comes home from the hospital very soon. The weekend was nice, but it went by way too fast. Part of it was spent working on the lawn and garden, along with staining the deck. The baby robins hatched, there were 3 eggs and all 3 birds hatched. There is a picture of them posted on my page. We have an ordinary Saturday planned, some fun and games, clean food and water for all as usual, and some working, cage cleaning ya know how that is! Art and I got new boxes on top of our play area today and they are under attack as we speak, he is so much fun to watch! Glad we stopped in too! So now your 6 or 7? I will be 6 in August. That is how I got my name auGUSt LOL. Last night after dinner mom tried to get on the computer and pretty soon a thunder storm came up and that was the end of our computer time for the night. We couldn’t do our blogs last night. Since there is a chance for storms again tonight we are trying to get an early start and do them all tonight before the storm starts. Mom said she wanted to show me something out the window today but I was a bit leery of that but finally went with her. Here was a male and female duck in our back yard. Two come to visit every summer though after awhile just the male comes. Guess the female is sitting on eggs because a few times in past summers they have shown up with the babies in tow. Dad feeds them all summer and mom told dad the ducks were here looking for him later. I like watching them out the window though. “Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul and sings the tune with out the words and never stops at all.” Leaving a vote for you…Your kissing cousin, Gus. ...we have followed uncle Charles all these years, and have sent countless prayers to our Lord for his recovery, and we are not dropping out now! As you know, I am an opportunistic Amazon lady always looking to make a buck! What I need to know is, what your sweet momma is made of, I want to market that substance to the Army for bullet proof tanks, vests, tires, and anything else that can wear out from a weakness! My dear sweet aunt Susan is the toughest person we have ever come across, and one of the very sweetest and kindest, we have ever encountered, even after her plate was filled to overflowing so many times, with nasty things that would take the average man, woman, or child out of the game! She is truly an extraordinary woman, and us Dallas' love her more than she my ever know! Good luck to your daddy with his hyperveric treatments, we are sending our Lord to be by his bedside, for a complete recovery, and put all his pain and uncertainty behind him forever! Please give all my love to my dear aunt Susan, along with a big ol' hug and kiss, she is one of a kind, and tell her we know how busy she is with all you birds and uncle Charles and does not need to answer our note...

You're such a handsome boy. My name is Oz and I'm a Rose Breasted Cockatoo. Mommy was really looking for a Solomon Island Eclectus just like you but then she saw my ad in the newspaper and I was always Mom's Dream Bird. Mommy is my 3rd owner and she says that I'm now in my Forever Home. I'm so happy cause I really like it here. I also live in an Avian Accent Cage (furniture really) it's beautiful with a filtration system and lighting. Mommy says it was very expensive but that I'm worth it LOL. Want to be Friends? Good to hear from you. Oh my, it seems like there are so many BC parronts in the hospital, having treatments or many doctor appointments. Are we all falling apart? Saying prayers for all of us.
Glad to hear you have a flock. I bet it's fun for you and Lucy. Stop over whenever you can.
Update: Mom got her first nights sleep in a week last night, feeling better. Dad is now sick.
Weather: We are now at 130 inches of snow for the season. Normal for our area is 140 a season. I’m sure we’ll get there. Right now we are having below average high and low temps for at least another week. Starting Friday, another 6 days of snow. HURRY SPRING WEATHER!!!

Angel Christy and I want to thank each of you for your kind words of support for our Angel Wings Toy Shoppe, we were so afraid we wouldn't be able to get it reinstalled, but many of you sent notes and emails on our behalf, your voices were heard and we have our beloved Toy Shoppe back where it belongs. All the kind sweet notes on the Toy Shoppe page yesterday made us realize how important it is to all of you, just as important as it is for me, my Angel Christy, Mom and uncle Chuck. January 16th Spotlight on Caring part 2
Hello all my BC friends! Sky here with the conclusion of my interview with Mr Kiddo and his wonderful Mom Pam. I must apologize that I failed to post Kiddo`s photo SKY: In what other ways are you involved in BC? KIDDO: My partner, RaneBeau, and I organize the monthly milonga, which is a virtual party which usually has a theme corresponding in some way with the month. For instance in October we had a cemetery tour to go with Halloween. In May we always have the Annual Milonga Derby to go along with the Kentucky Derby with the assistance of Chyna and her mom who are Derby afficianados. And we are always open to suggestions for a new theme or activities to go with a repeat theme. Don't be shy! We love it when other birdies get involved. That is what BC is all about. Community!
SKY: Are you involved with any bird rescues, clubs etc outside of BC? PAM: I truly wish the answer to this one was yes. I have been looking for a bird club in my area for years. There just aren't any. In fact, we rarely have Bird Fairs or Shows either, and I am so envious when I hear about the great ones in other parts of the country. I do sign on to the Animal Rescue Site every day and click to contribute to them, and when there is a contest I vote for the Oasis Sanctuary in AZ.
SKY: WHAT IS YOUR ONE THING you'd like to say about birds in general? PAM: Not all birds can be lucky enough to stumble in to a home where a bond like the one we have formed occurs. And although Dad is not bonded with Kiddo (Kiddo is jealous of him), he is understanding and never is mean to him (although he is not above a few terrible jokes about parrot stew).
And I hope all new parrot people do what I did and research to learn the things they need to know. The first food I bought for Kiddo was seeds, and his first cage was a parakeet cage (which he destroyed in less than one week). I learned very quickly by asking questions at the pet store, reading books from the library and subscribing to Bird Talk, that there is always something new to learn about these fascinating creatures who have so much love and companionship to give us when we are smart enough to recognize it.
SKY: Thank you Kiddo and Mom Pam for your insight into the BOTD/BOTM titles, and for sharing with us all for love for birds, and the wish that all owners would do their research BEFORE they buy the bird.
I am looking for other birds, flocks or individuals who would like to share about their interest in birds, how they got their bird(s) and how they try to make this world a better for for all us feathered beings. Please contact asap so we can plan February's SPOTLIGHT'S on CARING.

We just love your sweet momma and isn't it just like her to adopt unwanted birds, especially little Pixie, the handicapped Tiel, that is exactly what my daddy would have done! Finny my dear friend, today is my special day, the magic day that I came to live with my daddy so many years ago! It was actually the day my real life of love and happiness began, thanks daddy! I am a very lucky and extremely happy Zon lady! It's still cold here, but hey, so it goes in the Winter time in Illinois! Dad is working to bird proof our family room so Flash can come out of his cage and play, without hurting himself! I got a dried okra pod from Romeo, but Arthur took it away from me, I don't care, I like my brother! Happy love to all in your home, see ya tomorrow...
