My owner found me in the back room of a large pet store where I was ignored and neglected because everyone thought I was "a biter." Mommy visited me daily for 3 months, talking to me and assuring me that things would be alright. She watched as I slid downhill, becoming ever more withdrawn, frightened and sickly. She complained to the store, but nothing improved. Eventually she could take it no longer--she could tell I was sick and languishing. The store was eager to get rid of me--none of the employees liked me. They sent in three men and a net to get me out of the little cage that had been my prison for so long. Mommy was so angry! She immediately took me to an avian vet and then nursed me back to health in my new home. She saved my life!. |

Hi! My name is Sarabi
I am a Red-Bellied Parrot from Colorado Springs, CO.
Sarabito, Dino-Chicken, Feather-Girl
8 years old F
Red-Bellied Parrot
Carrots!
Swinging from my Boing on the ceiling or hanging from the curved roof of my cage are personal favorites.
Sleeping in! I want to be up bright and early! And, I'd rather throw a ball at you, than bring it to you. My owner is just determined that this trick learning thing is going to happen. We'll see.
Even though I bit, or tried to bite her, every day for 8 months, she never gave up on me. Now I love the whole family and spend my days playing and enjoying my flock.
If I want out, I'll turn my head upside down and purr like a cat. I also speak more human than bird. I will keep asking "What are you doing?" until I get an answer. I like to name the dishes as they are washed, ("bowl, cup, pan...").
There's nothing like bird love! Every bird should have their own personal cat..

Hiya Sarabi How's things in CO Springs t'day? And how's Frosty 'Keet doin'? Not any signs of trouble showin' up I hope. At this point, if he seems t'be doing okay, I'd be bettin' that he's gonna be A-okay! Ain't that exciting! You're gonna have you a permanent little buddy in the house, Sarabi, somebody you can beep and tweet and chirp back and forth with. That's a hoot about Frosty conversing with the phone's tweet. How cute. Since I live with a couple of CAGs I'm used t'hearing imitations of timers and incoming mail and the like. Those two Greys are a regular electronics sound board. Speaking of donuts, have you ever tried the ones they make at the top of Pike's Peak? The parronts drove to the top while they were out there and Grandad insisted they have a donut at 14000'. Guess it's a unique recipe, one that works at a high altitude. Nobody brought me back a taste so I have no idea if they were good or not. Maybe the fact nothing was saved for me means them donuts were really tasty. Hopin' yours and Frosty's day is going great! R ('>Come visit me, RaneBeau ('>.

Helloooo Sarabi! Oh man, it's always so awesome t'hear from you. I couldn't get back with you right away after you shared your fantastic story 'cause my mom was out in your neck of the woods! Yup, she's been in Woodland Park for the past week with her parronts while yours truly here waited and waited, and waited some more for her t'come home. I got my wish just t'day although I didn't get t'see her as much as I'd've liked 'cause she had t'nap to try and catch up on sleep after driving all night to get back to me. I'm told she and dad ate a farewell meal with the grandparronts at Salsa Bravo there in your town and that mom wondered how close to your home she might've been at the time. I can't wait to ask, how's little Frosty Keet doin' t'day? Oh Sarabi, what a story about this little fellow comin' to your yard, the bestest yard he could come to in his time of need. I think it's very possible that Danny directed him there. Danny, he knows how wonderful your family is. Thank goodness your Mom was watching Frosty~Keet intently 'cause there probably wasn't a moment t'spare when he was laying there in the snow. Brrrr, I can't imagine how cold that would feel. I got carried outdoors on a rare day when it was 58° here back in Jan. The sun felt so wonderful but the air, it had a nip to it really so I didn't get t'stay out but for maybe a minute. Lying in the snow would be so awful. I wonder what your reaction will be when you get t'meet the little 'Keet. They're chatty little characters, lively, active and cute! I know 'cause I live with a few. I think you'll like him (or her). They're definitely entertaining t'keep an eye on. Can't wait t'hear the next update. Heaven bless the rescuer, both your Mom and the little bird... Love you back, Sarabi. Your buddy, your pal, R ('>Come visit me, RaneBeau ('>.

Hi Sarabi; we'll be in touch about a spotlight Hello from Sky. Tonight I post my final blog in my BOTM campaign. It has been a wonderful, sometimes difficult month. I have been blessed with an opportunity to share from my heart, and open some birdies eyes to the reality of suffering that is so universal. So much is heard of the plight of dogs, cats, horses and other wildlife but there has been silence to the suffering that takes place in the world of birds. I wish to take this final opportunity to thank you all for your support, your words of encouragement, all your feed back to my blogs and mostly the love I have felt from each of you. Please know that love will always be cherished in my heart and is returned two-fold to you. It is only right that I thank and applaud Ms Chirps and her Momma Rea for their assistance, and prayers during this month, and their love, always. It was Angel Bertie that had suggested I focus this campaign on this important subject. I must also thank Chuey's Mom Deb for all her help, for filling in for Momma Deb in looking after the birds, and being there for me and my Momma while we devoted our time to research, interviewing and writing. Without which we would not have been able to do this! As my final Tribute, I am sharing the store of one brave bird's suffering and rescue. May it stir your hearts to begin to offer help to all birds in need, to rescues that need our help, and in every way that we can, one human at a time!! BRAVE HEART-47359 I was a very brave bird which is how I got my name BraveHeart. I was misunderstood, got in trouble for just being a bird, and had my tootsies burned off on a stove top. I screamed too much one day and my owner in anger decided to show me about the noise I made. The woman who saved me risked jail to free me from my torture. I was rescued from that person and I was brought to Second Chance Bird Rescue,in Rochester New York. Where I will live forever. They think I am really special there! I have a very special cage with ramps and horizontal bars so I can climb with my little nubbie footsies, and I am the Rescue's mascot which means I am really important. Here's a little poem about my story: To climb a rope. To sit on a perch and enjoy eating a piece of apple that I hold by myself. To play on a ladder and hang upside down from my swing. To sit on your shoulder and whisper in your ear. These are things I dream of doing, but will never be able to do. Because I made a sound. Because I got food on the floor. Who knows why. Because I was a bird and did things that birds do. My life changed. ....Forever. My name is BraveHeart, and I was Brave. When I was yelled at, I was Brave. When I was lacking companionship and love, I was Brave. When I felt the heat on my toes that burned them away, I was Brave. Brave Heart went to the Rainbow Bridge in 2008. please visit his page! with my heart filled with love, Thank-you all & God bless and protect you, SKYCome visit me, JESSE, AMANDO, a Rain Forest Raider, little angel, jack, Sarah Little Bird, rally,, ANGEL, I'm a SILVER SLUGGER, 2nd baser, Zeena, I'm a Major League Beak, SKY & Miss BB ready for the Derby, Lupe', flynn, Poncho, Casey & Tia ready for the Derby, broken wings, broken promises & CASPER, I'm a White Hawk!!!.

Sarabi~ Seeing Danny's pictures has given me a little better understanding of why you and your Mommy are hurting so much; he is so precious! So darling. And oh, the progress his feathers had made. It was easy to see that he was very happy there with you. I can only imagine how many times you've wished he was still there with you. If only... Thank you so much for sharing Danny's pictures with me. I've saved one of him with the bell, the one where he was proudly showing off his new feathers. I'm going to had it to the pictures I've saved of you, Sarabi. I will now always think of Danny when I think about you — I'll help him never to be forgotten. Love to you my dear, sweet friend. Hi Sarabi; DAY 28 November 28th Hello everyone, SKY here with today's "Spotlight on Caring." This week we will visit with Marley and her Mom Paula from Marley's Menagerie, a Entrelacs, Quebec, Parrot Rescue and Adoption center. Sky: Marley, when did your Mom Paula first become interested in birds? Marley: She started with a Budgie she snuck into her room at 12 years old. She bought it with babysitting money. It sorta grew from there. Sky: How did your Mom Paula start taking in unwanted birds? Marley: It began years ago as a youngster when friends and their parents would ask if she'd take in their unwanted pets. Budgies, a Canary and a Lovebird joined the flock. Sky: Did your Mom keep all of them? Marley: No, she'd keep them until she found good homes for them. Sky: So, your Mom Paula sort of grew up into a bird rescuer? Marley; Yes, when she got married and gained experience with birds, she & my dad realized there was a great need for a safe haven for unwanted, or abused birds. Sky: Tell us about the early beginings of Marley's Menagerie? Marley; Mom and a friend were talking one day about the growing problem of unwanted birds. Her friend suggested that Mom become a registered rescue. SKY: What did she need to do to accomplish this? Marley: In Quebec, you need to obtain a permit from the government. There are a number of specific requirements that MUST be met and maintained at all times. It is different here, then in the USA. SKY: Is your rescue large? Marley: No, Mom only takes in the unwanted birds that she knows she can care for herself. She doesn't want to have too many too care for properly. Sometimes she has to refer to other rescues. SKY: Are you a rescued bird? Marley: yes, Mom and a friend removed me from a Pet Store where I was poked and prodded at all the time. SKY: What one thing do you want to tell every birdie about birds in general? Marley: A bird is a forever investment, unlike a dog or cat, because we can out live our owners. Do your research, educate yourself. Mom says: " The birds are my life. I relate to them more then to most people." Sky: Thank you Marley for sharing a little about yourself and Marley's Menagerie. Remember Thursday at 7PM est we head off for a live blog trip to AFRICA!! with my heart filled with love, SKY-224183 NOTE: tickets are still available for the draw for a beautiful painting-Draw Nov30th You can give this email to contact me. Tickets for the draw are $10 each or 3 for $25. I just received another box of fantastic bird toys for raffle prizes from one of my suppliers. Dearest Sarabi I was so excited to see a note from you but that excitement quickly changed to heart ache with the news about your cousin's tragic demise. Oh Sarabi, I am so, so sorry. How you and your mom's hearts must be breaking with the loss of your little feathered friend. After having spent all that time together, you have come to love him which makes his death all the more painful. Were any pictures taken of him while he was there with you? I'd love to see him... Sharing a tender hug with you, my poor sweet friend. Share a little of that love with your mom if you would please. And like you said, I hope the Christmas season brings nothing but Joy, and for you, a double portion so that the sorrow of losing your cousin might be eased a little. Hi Sarabi; November 27th Hi Sky here with what I think best called, my catching up on EVERYTHING BIRD. It's hard to realize that November is nearly over. There were so many more things I wished to share but time won't permit it now. I have mentioned before, and shall again, that after the BOTM campaign finishes I shall continue to write a weekly blog that has been called SPOTLIGHT on CARING. If any birdie wishes to take part themselves or knows of a BC flockily that deserves some sincere recognition PLEASE by all needs let me know. I think it is important for all of us BC birdies to get to know the different flocks that are out there helping birdies in need, and otherwise contributing to the betterment of all. My sincerest hope and prayer is that we all might be encouraged to reach out a little more. Some may say they can't help for various reasons but there are ways we all can. It doesn't take a lot. Most recently a little elderly lady met me while I was outdoors in the fall. She was totally amazed by me, and my story of past abuse. Just a couple weeks ago a knock came to our door and a young lady stood there asking to speak to Momma Deb. The elderly lady was in the car and wished to speak to her. She held in her hand a "gift" to help the rescue birdies here with me. She said it wasn't much but all she had to spare. Once inside my Momma looked and there was $4.60. To some that isn't much but to a bird it can mean some fresh fruits, a treat or the difference between life and death. So, remember we can all help in some small way. Bird rescues need many things, toys, food, volunteers to help clean cages, socialize birds. The list is unending. To end this month off I wish to invite EVERY BIRDIE to join me on Thursday NOVEMBER 29th as we travel to AFRICA to meet a devoted group of men and women who are fighting to save the wild African Greys ( mostly Congos) We shall leave BC at 7PM EST. So please check your BC passports, grab your cameras and join me on this very educational adventure. SHUTTLE SERVICE will be provided by my sweet Miss Big Baby. This will be a live blog adventure to remember. Tomorrow we Spotlight another of our BC friends and their Canadian rescue. with my heart filled with love SKY-224183 have your Mom email mine at spikedeb@gmail.com--thanksCome visit me, JESSE, AMANDO, a Rain Forest Raider, little angel, jack, Sarah Little Bird, rally,, ANGEL, I'm a SILVER SLUGGER, 2nd baser, Zeena, I'm a Major League Beak, SKY & Miss BB ready for the Derby, Lupe', flynn, Poncho, Casey & Tia ready for the Derby, broken wings, broken promises & CASPER, I'm a White Hawk!!!.

Hi Hi Sarabi--How are you and your cousin? Is your cousin still living with you? We are all moved in to Wisconsin. We love it here. I got a new doublewide cage, and sit in front of a big window, so sometimes I can sit in the sunshine if I want. It snowed for the first time yesterday, but I wasn't scared, even though I never saw snow before. Hope you are doing well. Have a good holiday season.Come visit me, Echo.

Wow Sarabi.... ..what a picture of your and that kitty and what a story of your adoption. First, please forgive me for taking so long to respond with my thanks and gratitude for your hatchday wishes and the BOTD honor. We have had 2 more rescues here in the last month, so it has been more crazy thank ever. And yes, I was rescued from a pet store basement with 3 other conures and Elvis the amazon. We were kept in the dark and the owners were gonna breed us until they found out I was the only girl. No who is the plucker? I pluck compulsively because I want to raise a family, Sometimes I get so overzealous that I pluck my husbird, Captain Darling's head feathers. I have calmed down over the months. Mom tries to keep us away from shredding paper and getting into boxes. She tries that pepper spray and I hate it, so mom is reluctant to use it. Thank you again for stopping by my cage and hoping you have a wonderful day! Hi Sarabi Is your cousin staying for good??? How long has he been with you? Is he in a room that has lots of people action? We had a Green Cheek staying with us for awhile. He thought he was the boss around here, but he didn't try plucking or anything, and he found out I was the boss. It just took about 2 months and he got used to our routine, and the different noises around here. Once they start picking, it's like a bad habit that is hard to break. Keep me posted. In the mean time--don't let him get too much of your mom's attention--You come first.Come visit me, Echo.

Hiya Sarabi! So you've got company of the feathered kind! Cool. What's not cool is that the little guy's apparently got some issues and he's takin' them out on himself. I'm not sure there's anything I can add to the already impressive list of things being done for him. The snuggle buddy's a good idea, the pile of toys and shreddable stuff, the interaction and TLC he's gettin', it's all good. And yet, he's still beatin' up on himself. Bummer. Not too long ago my mom says she read an article about a Green Cheek who had a terrible habit of nipping when he was fully flighted but was a docile, sweet little thing when he was "grounded". I guess he felt like the boss when he had wings but decided he had to be nice when he was clipped. A wing-clip for now might help with the biting and hurting people. Maybe he's just one really confused birdie right now, needing human companionship but beating up on them when they offer to socialize with'm. Sure hope the cousin figures out he's in good hands and can settle down a bit before he demolishes his feathers further. Thsoe mutation GC are sure pretty little birds. He's got a light-colored beak, right? How are YOU? Do you currently have a cat buddy in your life? How's life in Colorado Springs these days? Have there been rain lately, enough to lower the fire danger some? Right now it's raining like crazy, for the first time since June. It's not a thunderstorm but a good solid RAIN that's lasted for several hours so far. Everyone's elated about it.... except me 'cause I got carried out to the parrot pen and left!! Yup, I got a shower in the rain! Mom finally came back out and got me, commenting on the way back in that wasn't sure but that I was the wettest she'd ever seen me. I found no humor in her wise-crack observation. Truthfully though, I didn't mind it much. In fact at one point, I was holding my wings out and turning my head from side to side. Now the Greys that live here, oh man! — they were running around, squawking like a bunch of ninnies, acting like they were about to melt! Me and the Zon-Guy, Alfie, we honestly liked it. You ever been in the rain, Sarabi? Lookin' forward to hearing more about your cousin and how he's gettin' along. Thanks for comin' by. R ('>Come visit me, RaneBeau ('>.

Congratualations Queen Sarabi! Your Royal Highness, it's so good to hear from you. Thanks for lettin' me know you're alright following those scary fires. I have to admit, I was one worried bird about you. I also have to admit being a bummy friend— I wasn't here yesterday for your hatchday. HAPPY HATCHDAY a day late. BC time's not been as plentiful here lately. It ebbs and flows any more. Anywho, great t'know everything's okay at your place. Got a chuckle out of your description of the wild kingdom your home turned into. Neat about the bunnies staying with you until the fire dangers were over. Here's hopin' you stay safe and fire-free the rest of the year. Big Hugs to you~ R ('>Come visit me, RaneBeau ('>.

Aye! Good Evening Lovely Queen Sarabi! Pirate King Sam takes a bow to Queen Sarabi. May I have this dance, your Majesty? I offer my pardons as I have been absent & truly do wish I could've been here. A quest I have ventured & have to see to its end & there will be a wealthy big gain. The Castle will grow once again for a Maritime Museum I'm hoping to obtain. It was more complex than anything I imagined and now that I look at you here. I really missed out on a worthy celebration, your beauty is quite clear! I'm so delighted to read how your good Momma did rescue you. I'm hopin' fer nothin' but goodness in yer life & that yer feelin' that, too. There will be days that may mar yer memories, drop them like a hot skillet pan! Do remember the love that came for ye, with a soft & loving hand. As Pirate King Sam finishes his waltz with the beauty, Queen Sarabi, forgive a scurvy dog of a pirate, but I, alas, must be off in a hurry! Hello I just want too tell you that you have a Very Beautiful bird and cat. I too rescued a bird that needing too be loved. The person I got her from Kept Bella in a very dirty cage, she wasn't feeding her the proper food. I have had her now for almost 2 years. Her beak is healthy and so is she. They told me she bites. But she has never bitten me, she is my bird and no one else's. She is spoiled rotten, goes on trips with me. I also love cats.Come visit me, Bella, clover, Scarlett, Angel & Woody.

Hello Sarabi This is my speech for the day; Zippy, tho' a very brave bird—witness how often she dares Polly's beak to steal pellets—is cowering behind her 'treasure' box. Polly yells “ZIPPY, Where are YOU?” Zippy lets out a VERY quiet chirp. “I'm ready to play today.” He starts playing 'I am a fine musician, I practice every day...' “Polly, WHERE are you?” He squeezes the accordion closed and squints over the top. “Come on out, Zippy. This is the instrument of the day. Its dad's favorite.” Zippy cautiously comes from behind the box to tell us today's story. Being the middle of the month, or close, today I thought I'd let you in on HOW Polly is getting all these instruments. The only one he brought from the flock was skinbro's panpipes. Way, way, back in BC history, Floop was our sovereign. During his reign he built the MUSIC room. This room has within it a wall that produces every imaginable instrument. Once Pirate King SamIam and the Scruffy Birds visited the room. Talking to SamIam's mom, my mom was informed of the magic music room. Once upon a time Sam and the Scruffy Birds got into it. Every time an instrument was taken down, a different one appeared in its place. Now you know the Scruffy Birds in the band, they are playful and mischievous. Pretty soon there was a rather LARGE collection of instruments. Sam went thru quite a lot to find a good school to 'dump' them. Of course he left a note saying the instruments were for the school from the Scruffy Birds of BC. But the music room is much more than magically appearing instruments, even tho' that was what gott the Scruffy Birds' attention. It is soundproofed, and there is a stage to try out the instruments. There is a piano, guitar and drum set and microphones and stands that cannot be packed away. When visiting the castle be sure to try out the music room, with the soundproofing you will not disturb anybird or embarrass yourself with trying the various instruments. If you check my gallery today, you will see King Floop and 4 pictures of the music room. As always, I thank you kindly for your votes and appreciate your continued support. ZippyCome visit me, Polly; Screech#217715 to 10K & Zippy--BASEBALL; LUIGI #225307 for BOTM.
