Hi! My name is Cookie

I am a Green-Cheeked Conure from Kalamazoo, MI.

Snip-it; Sniper

5 years old   F

Green-Cheeked Conure

Anything I am eating. Doesn't dislike any food and yet still maintains her slim figure.

My shoulder. My head. My lap. My plate of food.

Toffee, our Senegal. The cat. Not getting ALL of the attention. Toffee has flow away and the cat has died. Now my silly human has brought two new birds into MY house. What was he thinking!?

He lets me fly and play whenever he is home. He holds me whenever I nudge his cheek! He lets me take showers with him.

Luring Toffee over for feather preening and then nipping Toffee's foot. Singing "Cookie! Cookie! Cookie" in the shower.

Even though her flight feathers were trimmed, my precious Cookie flew into a door on Saturday and suffered severe head trauma. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She seems to be blind right now but she is eating and drinking. She is such a wonderful, vibrant little buddy. Give your birds an extra hug tonight.
Cookie is doing MUCH better but HE now has diabetes insipidus. Result of the head trauma. I am so thankful for having such a good friend!

Hi, Cookie -

Watched "THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG" (1964, Dir: Jacques Demy) with Geno.
What a special movie - everyone line of the film is sung. in French. Beautiful, sweet and heartbreaking movie.

  Flitzer Biography
Happy Sunday, BC Friends.
Since Dad lives in an apartment, he was looking for a "relatively quiet" bird.
Previously he had only cared for a parakeet -who was handicapped.
--
Dad considered a clutch of 4 birds at the local bird store, which is about 45 min away from home.

The first time Dad tried to hold me I bit bit bit, to show him who was boss, but later visits I was calm and kind and loving.

I was the eldest and decided I wanted him. I waited patiently as Dad was attracted to the others, but he was Mine and I let him know that I was "The Bird".
--
I was hatched in August and was supposed to go to Dad's home in November, but Dad had a bad fall when he moved Oct 31st, and that was delayed until mid-December.
Dad had my name chosen early on. Flitzer is German meaning "To Streak or Move Very Fast".
He named me after a Roller Coaster called "The Flitzer", a favorite in his childhood.

Happy May!

We had some great Daddy-n-Bird Time on Thursday. In fact I visited Dad in his bedroom at nap time {I rarely go in there} As he rested he rubbed my back and I squawked happily.
These times of affection are rare but wonderful.
--
Dad had his friend, JJ, over last night and we watched Alfred Hitchcock's "Notorious" (1946).

Hi Flitzer!

Dad got you the wrong bird food? Oh no! That means that he has to give you lots of your favorite snacks. Lots of them. And even more attention than usual. You can forgive him as long as he treats you like the royalty which you are.

We had an interesting week. Not really. Pretty much the same as usual. Dad's grandson stays here every night. That means that I spend WAY too much time in my cage. Max is afraid of birds! Can you imagine that? Being afraid of little me. Just because I have bitten him on the ear before. I promise to not do it again. Maybe. OK.. I probably will. Being realistic.

I can certainly understand why he would be afraid of the other birds. Dante and Folger are BIG. Folger can't fly but Dante can. Dad said that he is going to have to trim Dante's wings again because of something called "spring fever", whatever that is.

You need snacks. NOW! Lots of popcorn. And a movie.

Your friend,

Cookie

Hey Cookie and Friends!

I wake up to discover that Dad bought the wrong bird pellets. All my life I have eaten Roudybush "Minis" ...these fresh pellets are Roudybush "Small". They're huge.

Haven't decided yet weather to turn my beak up at these huge ugly things. Dad is not near any place that carries my pellets so he is going to have to journey for them or order them -so it may be a few days until I get the right ones.
Silly human.

Locked Out!

Due to poor policy regarding keys [they never give keys to ANY of their staff] , nobody could enter the gym today.
This used to happen a lot - and we have begged Management to give a key to the Trustworthy morning staff. They refuse to do so.
Sadly, Dad has a very busy day with no opportunity to return later today.

  Hi bud!
It was a good weekend. Lots of shoulder time with Dad. Got some egg, banana and grapes. Didn't watch any movies but Dad did let me watch some videos of parrots. It was pretty cool!

Dante bit Dad really hard on Saturday. Dad isn't sure why and wasn't exactly thrilled. When dad yelled in pain HaHo said, "OW!" Dante and Dad made up later. Dad thinks that he must have ignored some kind of warning and needs to be more vigilant next time.

Bye my friend!

We had a gorgeos Sunday. Dad invited his friend Geno to lunch and we shared lemon cookies.
I don't normally like people other than Dad, but Geno is really great. He's my new buddy.

Later Geno and Dad went to see "THE SOUND OF MUSIC" at the Theater. Sadly the place is not 'bird-safe' so I had to stay home. I do love when we see "The Sound of Music" at home, so I can sing along.

We are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of "THE SOUND OF MUSIC". Dad saw it when he was very little with his Dad, Sister and Friends.
Later, in the 70s he saw it again in the theater on a gigantic screen.

Although the film is still fun on the television, there is nothing like the majesty of the mountains and the music of the movie when seen BIG.

  Flitzer Final February Post
THE LOST ART OF THE INTERMISSION:
For many years, longer films were planned with Intermisisons. the story would take a dramatic pause, the music would swell, and the audience got to take a break to use the bathrooms, visit the Refreshment Stand etc.
--
I always loved the Intermission music. Often in the older theaters, curtains would dramatically close on the Intermission, and slowly open when Part 2 began.
--
Nowadays we're forced to sit for 2 1/2, 3 hrs or more without a break.
[The Lord of the Rings films are good examples - they are long, involved, and you're lost if you had to take a break away from the screen].

Even revivals of older films will skip right over the Intermission - forcing you to shift in your seat - and hold it in for another extended period of time - ~ugh~
--
Unfortunately, after paying the high ticket-prices we need to *er* …"step away" from the film for a few minutes, missing possibly something interesting.
--
Theater owners are always conscious of how many showings they can fit in per day, but I say BRING BACK THE INTERMISSION. People *will* spend more for refreshments, and not have to miss any of the movie.

Dad's Special Movie Memory:
As kids we would get to a movie theater once in a while. Mostly for a Kids Matinee.
We almost never visited the Refreshment Stand. There was one special time which was an exception.
Dad was treated to a special movie with his Mom. They went without the rest of the family -and It was an evening showing, She even bought him popcorn. Can't recall if it was a Birthday or whatever - just that it was a special night.

The film was "MARY POPPINS", which, ever since has been a special movie for Dad.

We spoke earlier this month about how a few notes of music can make a movie-memory come sweeping back. Any music from ‘Mary Poppins’ makes Dad think of that special Movie Night with his Mom.

  Flitzer on Winners and Classics
Kiddo raised an interesting topic: Films that did Not win The Academy Award for 'Best Picture', but they are now classics, many times surpassing the Oscar-winning film.
--
in the Awards Game there has to be a winner, and losers. There will be endless discussion as to outcomes, but only time makes a film a true Classic.
A couple of examples:
--
The Year: 1941. The Oscar-Winning film, "How Green was My Valley" [a personal favorite and a wonderful film], but the nominee that did not get the award was "Citizen Kane" which many feel is one of the Greatest Films Ever Made.
--
The Year: 1952. The Oscar-Winning Film, "The GreatestShow on Earth"
...same year as "High noon" and "The Quiet Man"
--
The Year: 2005. The Oscar-Winning Film, "Crash"
...same year as "Brokeback Mountain", a film which many consider a Classic.
= = =
Will this year's winner, "Birdman", remain considered the Best of the year?
or will “American Sniper”, "Boyhood" or even "The Grand Budapest Hotel" be remembered...only time will tell.

  Flitzer Wednesday Thoughts . . .
Still in "Recovery-Mode" from Hollywood's Big Night.

--
Some of you BirdChannel friends have expressed that they don't watch The Oscars.
Dad doesn't really like the Hollywood Glamor-thing and some of the industry politics,
but we do love movies.
--
Often we are disappointed with what films and actors win the awards. That is all a part of the game. We often look back on past years with a knowing smirk, realizing that the movies we liked best that year are the ones that are still being watched and appreciated.
--
All that being said, we do like tuning in that one night a year, when Hollywood goes all-out and celebrates the talent, work and yes, the tackiness of The Hollywood Movie Machine.

  Flitzer Parties with the Stars
Hey, Cookie -

Inside Oscar’s Glamorous After-Parties
--
The night doesn’t end when the final Oscar is handed out. In fact, the party is just getting started as stars and execs exit the Dolby Theater, heading to a flurry of post-awards celebrations, including the Governors Ball, the Vanity Fair Party, Elton John’s AIDS Foundation party and more.

--
The Governors Ball
By the time celebs arrived at the Governors Ball, they were ravenous. As usual, the event was catered by Wolfgang Puck -- a fact he made sure everyone was aware of.
Before the Oscars began, he walked the entire red carpet in his chef's whites with a tray displaying some of the treats partygoers would be offered at the after-party. Among them: caviar-topped baked potatoes, chicken pot pie and mac and cheese with aged cheddar. There was also a dessert bar, though most guests skipped the cookies and cupcakes in favor of Puck's trademark mini gold-covered chocolate Oscars. The candy men were kept just feet from a station where winners headed with their real gold statues and queued up to wait for engraving.

Elton John Oscars Party
The Elton John AIDS Foundation hosted its 2015 Academy Awards viewing party in West Hollywood on Sunday. The annual event, now in its 23rd year, serves as a star-studded fundraiser for the organization, which John founded in 1992 to support HIV/AIDS care, prevention, and awareness.

John and his husband David Furnish serve as co-hosts. Gordon Ramsay is once again providing a five-course gourmet dinner, and there will be a special musical performance. John, who joined Instagram in December to document his wedding to Furnish, is now using his account to share intimate pictures from the exclusive celebration. Before the Oscars ceremony began, the music legend revealed $4.85 million had already been raised, and later shared an adorable picture of his sons watching “Uncle Neil” Patrick Harris host the show.

Miley Cyrus, Heidi Klum, Nina Dobrev, the Osbournes, Aaron Paul, Alec Baldwin, Rob Lowe are among the celebrities in attendance. Plenty more are expected to join the festivities once the Academy Awards show ends.

Flitzer ready to co-Host The Oscars
Oscar Sunday

Singing: "It’s a wonderful night for Oscar…Oscar, Oscar!
Who will win?" --Billy Crystal

Billy Crystal is my favorite Oscar Host. He has hosted NINE Times between 1990 and 2012.
As far as I'm concerned he could keep on hosting.

The origin of the name Oscar is disputed. One biography of Bette Davis claims that she named the Oscar after her first husband, band leader Harmon Oscar Nelson; Walt Disney is also quoted as thanking the Academy for his Oscar as early as 1932.
Another claimed origin is that the Academy's Executive Secretary, Margaret Herrick, first saw the award in 1931 and made reference to the statuette's reminding her of her "Uncle Oscar" (a nickname for her cousin Oscar Pierce). Columnist Sidney Skolsky was present during Herrick's naming and seized the name in his byline, "Employees have affectionately dubbed their famous statuette 'Oscar'". The trophy was officially dubbed the "Oscar" in 1939 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

I am ready for a great night. We have snacks, a coffee cake, champagne and Dad'll be picking up "subs" [Submarine Sandwiches]. Just a small party.
