  All about Midori:
I am a Fischer's Lovebird (Agapornis personata fischeri). Captive-bred, but my species is native to eastern Africa north of Tanzania and south and southeast of Lake Victoria. In the wild, we inhabit isolated shrubs and clumps of trees surrounded by grassy plains. My species was originally discovered in the late 1800's, and were first bred in the United States in 1926. In the wild we nest in the holes of trees, in crevices of buildings, or take over the nests of swifts. When you provide us with a nest box be sure to also provide lots of willow twigs, strips of bark, or other nesting materials. A hen will lay four to six eggs which are incubated for about 23 days. I am a very social bird with my companion, and it is generally thought to be essential for our good health and happiness that we are kept in pairs rather than singly. We can, however, be aggressive towards other birds in an aviary setting. We love to fly, climb, and play, so we require a large cage, plenty of toys, and daily time out of our cage to exercise our wings. We also need a clean bowl of water to bathe in, every other day (if not daily). I have a shrill call, although more often, I make a high pitched twittering sound. Though not as loud as some parrots, it can be rather noisy for parts of the day.

Come visit me, Rain B & Midori B (In Loving Memory 2/2009).
