We came across Harley, 3 months before our wedding. We were originally told at Bird is the Word, that they did not have any more Macaws for sale. We were a little heart broken, so we left. We ended up going to their website and found the poem called "A Cheap Bird's Plea"(it's a tear jerker). An hour later we returned and Jerry(one of Harley's favorite people in the whole wide world) came right up to us and said he was so glad we came back, they had "forgotten" about this one little blue and gold macaw. (We later found out that Jerry was completely attached to Harley and if we hadn't gotten her, he probably would have purchased her!) He quickly explained we probably wouldn't want her though as her feet were broken when she was in the nest.
We hadn't even met her yet and I knew we had to take care of her. Sure enough, she fell in love with us and we fell in love with her.
She was still being hand fed as she was only 3 months old, so right before our wedding I paid her off as a wedding presant to Brian. With the help of the wonderful Charlene at Bird is the Word, I had a tape made of Harley telling Brian that she was all paid off and she was excited about "Mom and Dad's" wedding.
I had the video played at our rehersal dinner, and Brian was both extatic and extremely surprised!
Harley definetly lives up to her full name of Harliquinn. She is just like a little court jester or clown. She loves to laugh and play and get in to mischief.
We had her feet checked out and the doctor said that even though her feet were broken when she was so young and they were never properly set, she doesn't have any problems and she's never in any pain. Her toes may look a bit different from other Macaw's her size, they are more "dainty", but she doesn't let that keep her back at all!. |

I am a Blue-and-Gold Macaw from Geneva, IL.
 Harley the Wonder Birdy, Shorty, Nut, Funny girl, BRAT, baby girl

 Blue-and-Gold Macaw
Blueberries,Gra- pes, Oranges, grape juice, corn, seeds, French Fries, pizza crust. She gets corn and grapes and oranges more often. The others are just a special treat once in a while.
 Anywhere as long as it's not her cage! She does prefer a nice warm spot in the sun where she can look out a window.
 When her "brother and sister", (the bunnies), or her brother Frankie, are getting attention and not her. Being alone--even when mom and dad are just in the other room.
 "I love that they brought me home with them and play with me whenever they are home. I love being with them and talking and laughing and making them laugh at me!"
 Harley loves to squak and chatter away when our bunnies are out playing around our house. She loves to "tattle" on them too. Harley also loves JoJo's Circus from the Disney Channel and can not be "bothered" when it's on! She also found another favorite show, thanks to a new friend of hers-BEN. Now she loves Blues Clues too, and seems to be chatting back to "Blue"..
 Laugh alot, and don't get caught chewing the wood around the house!.
