Beowulf was found being tortured in a local pet store as he sat in a cage with a big sign "The bird BITES!" Children were being allowed to prod him with anything they could put their hands on while he was on the floor and caged. While we didn't plan on getting a bird that day we also could not allow him to stay in that place. So, I bought him (the store wouldn't give me any background on him) but refused to pay the outrageous fee they wanted for a parrot cage. When we got back from purchasing a better cage for him for far less we found he was being tortured yet again! The employees didn't care that the bird was being traumatized. I told the kids torturing him to knock it off and was challenged by their father with "Is the bird YOURS?" Upon my telling him yes, he got his brats to stop their tormenting of a very traumatized bird..

Hi! My name is Beowulf

I am a Quaker from Marion, IN.

Beo, Butt, Featherbutt

18 years old   M

Quaker

Pomegranate seeds, mango juice, cooked cow, chicken, or pig. Mommy says the protein in the meat helps with feather formation.

On my shoulder.

Anyone or anything that comes at him fast. He doesn't see well. With his past history such behavior also triggers flashbacks to his tormentors.

Mommy is patient with me and lets me know what is going on if I startle. Her skritches are just right. She also knows just when I'd love a drink of mango juice. The best thing is that Mommy and I worked on my being a service animal. I take great pride in going out with my parents and being a spokesbird.

Trying to feed me the beginning of each mating season. Repeating "I love you" followed by kisses any place he can reach to both my husband and myself..

I never met a cup of mango juice I didn't like!.

  HI
I don't want to be a weirdo about how you feed your bird or anything but quakers are not suppose to have sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds or anything fatty or they will get fatty liver disease my quaker did and he died. I am not saying your quaker will die I am just looking out for it. quakers are very prone to sickness and you have to be careful

hugs and good luck

  Hi Beowulf
It's me, BEOWULF! My human didn't think there would be another bird with our name, but here you are -- and I'm so glad. I'm only two years old and nobody has ever treated me with anything but kindness. I am SO glad you have a good home and that there are humans that won't allow such abuse to continue. You have my vote -- and please come see the other Beowulf!

Come visit me, Beowulf.

  Welcome Beowulf
You have a very sad story. it's great that you found yourself a good home. We have bird in our flock that was neglected in a pet store but not mistreated and teased. It's terrible that there are parents out there that allow their kids to tease the birds.I will give you a vote because you deserve it. We also have a quaker in our flock. She was a breeder bird and was kicked out of her flock and was a little beaten up by the other quakers. She actually is the most mellow bird of the flock. I think she appreciates having a great home.Come by and say hi when you get a chance.Take Care !!

Come visit me, Kiwi, Buddy, Mikey, Kimidori, Grace, Peeps, Shiori, Ziggie, Bella, Jasper & Chloe.
