How my tiel and I got together was just a miracle. I had lost my first tiel in 98 and was hoping one would drop on my doorstep and in 2002 we were supposed to babysit him for his previous mommy and she passed away and her friend asked if we would keep him for our own. I was so happy! cause I needed a tiel to fill the hole my first tiel left. Of course my peach fronted conure arrived the day after he died but it was only a tiel that could fill up that hole. I love my conure because she makes me laugh and keeps me happy. I was even happier when Peepers came to fill that void, the void needed by another tiel. I became the owner when my mom asked me if I wanted to keep him and I was like heck ya, I love this tiel so much! I heard his previous mommy wanted to make sure he was in a loving home before she died and he sure is!.

Cinnamon Mutation Cockatiel

nutraberries,pa- sta,animal crackers,apple peels,

i like to hang out on the playpen with my 4 conure brothers/sister- s and my pesky lutino brother and on my mommys shoulder.

I dont like showers but mommy makes me go with her but hey at least im a clean boy!, when my brother Mario steals MY perch(Lutino Cockatiel),when i gotta be stuck in the cage when mommy goes to work cuz i like to hop onto the floor because she doesnt want me getting hurt,

I love my mommy cuz she takes real good care of me and gives me lots of loves, she says im a special boy cuz i eat with my foot like a parrot she takes me on car rides, walks on my neat neon yellow harness and leash which i hate but wearing that leash means going out so i gotta be a good boy for mommy and wear it,she likes to snuggle with me and i with her. for my birthday she makes me a special birdie cake topped with seeds cuz i only get pellets for my meals cuz she thinks pellets are alot more healthier for me than seeds and they taste good too! the fruity ones are my fave! im just soo happy she adopted me cuz im happy that i found her and made her soo happy again! me being left at her house was a miracle to her and to me too cuz i have 5 brothers/sister- s for company when mommy goes to work.

i like to eat with my foot like a parrot mommy thinks its soo COOL when i do that,I like to hold my foot up when i sing and she thinks thats soo CUTE!, mommy taught me to play dead, i just lay on my back in the palm of her hand real still she thinks thats soo Cute as well and hopping on the floor and going for a run catch me if u can cuz my little pink tiel legs can move!.

"where there is floor tiel will travel, watch your step cuz im goin for a run!".

  Hi Peepers
Mom loves all the Halloween pics you sent, but it's the same problem, she is a dunce when it comes to the computer, and she can't move them. Maybe because it's a zip file?? We don't know but we do know she didn't have a problem with Falco's cowgirl pic, it loaded right up.
Today mom is having problems with BC, so we might not get all our notes done, but we're gonna try. We kept getting that cycling thing, then either the squawkatiels or the error404 page. After a meeting at the museum this morning, mom came home to spend some time with us, but has been having trouble with BC.
The vet called this morning to check on Falco, can you believe that? She really impressed mom by doing that, we've never had anyone do that before. After that, the cleaning lady came, and mom was not expecting her, so the house was a little more cluttered than she's used to, but it's okay, she got the job done while mom attended that meeting. Tonight she's meeting Aunt Ginny for dinner, and going to her house to make a copy of her medicare card so she can change insurance coverage. She decided to go with the state retired teachers' insurance instead of Highmark, since it offers the same thing for much less cash.
Tomorrow, we don't know what's on the schedule yet, but I suspect mom will be digging up lilies, if the weather holds. It's time to thin the herd, so to speak. I hope you are having a good day today and getting some sunshine and love. Hugs, Willie

  Hi, Peepers
Sounds like those pesky rodents must've skedaddled. Hopefully they don't come back.

Okay, nursing one's kid until they are 4 years old is a bit much. Can see two years, but even that is a stretch. Are those kids heathier than others?

Fortunately skinsis only went skydiving the one time. Think there was talk from her friend of going again, but never happened. Think they were out in an open field, no homes nearby.

Continues to be mid 70s for us. We'll see if it warms up more today. Sounds like your temps are more fall like being cool and rainy.

Hopefully skinbro gets that job.

Have a great day, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Peepers
That is so sad about the sky divers. We are sorry to hear that they both died. It's a dangerous sport, isn't it? Mom could never work up the courage to do that, and we're glad about that.
Today is going to be a quiet one, mom will do some shopping, then later go to dinner with her sis, but she's ours for the day. Of course, that means major cage cleaning, but as long as she's with us, we love it.
Today was Falco's last day on the antibiotics, YAY. Yesterday she flew into the kitchen and solicited a bath, which is the first time that's happened since she hurt my leg in July. Mom thinks the wound on her side is nearly healed, there is just one tiny hard spot left. She will continue to put the healing ointment on it, but Miss Falco is doing quite well now! Thank you for all the support and prayers, Mom and Falco really appreciate it.
I hope you are having another beautiful day, we sure are. It's supposed to cloud up later and maybe rain, but it sure is nice right now. I also hope you get lots of hugs and scritchies today. Hugs from me, Willie

  Hi, Peepres
Sounds like the rat family miss the coverage of being hidden while they were roaming around since predators could be lurking. Good if they've moved elsewhere and taken Stuart Little with 'em.

All babies are different. Baby skinsis also began the baby foods around 6 months but continued to nurse. Though heard that some will nurse until two years (or even older!)

How sad to hear about the skydiving accident and the loss of life. Skinsis went skydiving once. Her friend talked her into it. Think they were 18 or 19 at the time. Know she'll never do it again.

It is good to have uneventful days sometimes. Just do the chores at one's leisure and have food already available to make into a yummy meal.

Mom is happy with her computer but they sure can be a pain when they have problems! Thankfully they can sometimes be fixed:) Mom needs to get a tablet or something like that sometime so she doesn't go stir crazy without internet....LOL! Today is the 24 year anniversary of the day mom got her first cockatiel, a lutino hen named Sally, from a garage sale. She was a most special lady and while mom has always loved birds, Sally made her passionate about them. She was also Joey's first love:) Hope you have a good evening;)

  Hi Peepers
It's so nice that all of you got to go for a walk. I think that would be a lot of fun. Poor dad, having to do all that work on a pretty day, though.
Dinner last night wasn't at Khalil's since they were closed for vacation. They went to a different place, but it was still a good night out with friends. Mom kind of had her teeth set for Middle Eastern, but they can go there another time.
This morning at the center mom had a trainee. She has actually been there for awhile, doing Quality Care volunteering. Guess I should explain: the center takes volunteers to do dishes and laundry, these are the Quality care volunteers; they also take reception volunteers, and event volunteers; and they have mostly Animal Care volunteers, like mom, although she does everything. Anyway, the Quality care and reception people can also train for animal care once baby season is over, and it's officially done!
So mom trained her in the menagerie area today, and they fed the foxes outside, too, the permanent residents, that is. Now mom is with us the rest of the day, and we like it like that!
I hope you are having a sunny, beautiful day like we are. We've been on a roll of good weather here for over a week now. I hope you are getting lots of love today, too. Hugs, Willie

  Hi, Peepers
How wonderful for you to get the warm temps and sun yesterday. Sounds like everybirdie made the most of it and your mom getting the sheets washed and dried on the line to smell fresh. Good to grill a lot of the meat too so ready for more meals in the next couple of days. Our temps remained mild (70s) but forecast is still to warm up this week. We'll see.

Hopefully the lil varmint is caught or else proven to have skeddadled and no way to return. Without any food to tempt hopefully will look elsewhere. Never seen a mouse around here but doesn't mean they aren't around.

Yeah, with the Milongas very difficult to converse so we don't usually try to ask anything but rather just make comments and try to include others names and of course add our congrats and cheers as we can. The only issue we had was the page froze once so we had to close and reopen it. Eggspect slowness since so many birds were in attendance.

When skinsis was born mom read that 6 months to a year would be a good amount to breast feed, but it all depends on what works for the mom. At the very least the first month or two to get that immunity from the mom to the baby until it is old enough to get the first shots would be something a new mom could strive for. Know that not all moms are able to do it for various reasons. Mom doesn't recall baby skinsis being over cranky with the teething. Certainly she wasn't constantly drooling (like the girl next door who was a year older did) and rarely bit. Think skinsis was nursed eggcept for an evening bottle that her dad gave her and at one year was gradually weaned.

Have a great day, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Peepers
Thanks for the info on the toaster oven.
What a milonga that was last night! The barrel racing and the mutton busting were both really exciting events, and 'tiels ruled the night! From Queen Snowflake to many of the winners in the events, including Spot, the mutton busting champ, 'tiels were on top! Thanks to Kiddo and his team of great planners, picture takers, and trophy makers! Thanks also to Sam for the great music! It was a night to be remembered for all. We all had a great time, Lizzie's food was extraordinary, as usual, and it was just fun to see everybirdie.
Falco was flattered to be one of the princesses, that was some tough competition. I didn't do well on my sheep, but it was sure fun to try! The one big problem, besides our computer acting up, is that it's just impossible to talk to everybirdie at the events, it's too crowded. Still, we wouldn't trade those nights for anything.
Hope today is bringing you sunshine and more warm weather. Mom is going out to dinner tonight at Khalil's, meeting some friends, but we'll have her all day long! We can even tolerate her watching football, as long as she's with us. Have a wonderful day, get lots of cuddles if you can. Hugs, Willie

  Hi, Peepers
Yuck! A mouse? Still in the house? Well, hope the parronts caught the intruder and know it was probably after the fid food but could it possibly squeeze thru the bars to get at any of the flock? Not that we think it any match for a beak but also know they often have diseases that no hooman or fid wants to be in contact with.

Awesome Milonga. So wonderful to see you there and so eggciting to see the races and the riding and congrats to all our winners too.

Hopefully the grand doesn't cut any teeth for a couple more months. Don't think skinsis is ready for that. She's nursing and says she won't put up with any biting. Mom doesn't remember baby skinsis biting and know she nursed until she was one year old. Hopefully the grand doesn't bite so skinsis will continue to nurse. If not then think she'll use the breast pump as she does that on the days she works so there's a bottle.

Skinsis has colored her hair numerous times. No weird colors although one time it didn't work well and came out orangey instead of reddish.

Have a great day, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Peepers
What brand of toaster oven is that? Mom might want one of them, it sounds like a good one. Hers still works, but it's pretty primitive.
Mom just got back from an outdoor event at Hartwood Acres, a beautiful part of the Burgh. It's called Hay Days and it stresses sustainable local shopping, energy, use of resources, and lots of green things in our area. Mom brought home a free book given by the library and a seed ball to plant for next year, a flower that attracts bees. 4 volunteers and the education director signed up for the event, so mom and her volunteer partner just did the first 3 hours, and the other 2 volunteers will do the last 2.
Chelsea Possum was a huge hit! Everyone flocked around to see her, get a free zipper pull or bottle opener, depending on whether the visitor was juvenile or adult.Mom even got asked about volunteer opportunities, which is great. All in all, it was a good day, complete with sunny weather.
Tonight is the milonga, and we can't wait to get there. It should be fun with the Rodeo Queen and her 4 Princesses presiding over the mutton busting and barrel racing events. Hope to see you there! Have a great day, whether or not you are attending tonight, though. Hugs, Willie

  Hi, Peepers
Gosh, so busy, busy your mom and Nana with all those errands. Good to get all the bargains as food prices have gone up. Our mom got all the laundry done yesterday and the parronts went to the library to get dad a couple more books. Mom's sis brought over a box of books to share and she'll read those and give back as she finishes 'em. Later skinsis called to see if mom could babysit since she had to teach that class again. Looks like she'll be stuck with it but only two or three more sessions left. New pic was taken but not yet downloaded.

When skinsis was a baby mom was aware of when the same age cousin had her milestones but between the two they varied. Think potty training was similar but know skinsis walked at a younger age, but the cousin talked a lot more at a younger age. Now, skinsis baby has a cousin about 3 weeks older (Fiance brother's son.) and that baby just cut his first tooth. 4 months old! Yikes!

Hmmmm, skinsis has a flower tattoo on her back shoulder and not sure what the pattern of the tramp stamp is and there's a Chinese character on her inside wrist, a saying on her ankle and not sure if there's one more. The parronts are glad she's given up the tongue piercing, the eyebrow one and the lip one.

Hope to see you at the Milonga, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Peepers
Mom got to do the RVS room today, and it's really emptying out. There are only 3 raccoons in there. The one was super friendly, and kept trying to touch mom, then when she didn't respond, he started screaming. It brought 2 staff members and 3 volunteers to the door to make sure everything was okay. Mom laughed, and said she was pinching him from 4 cages away! (She was cleaning out his old cage when he started to make all that noise.) Since she finished that room so quickly, she did some dishes, folded some laundry, then went into the office to file charts. She had done some on Monday, but the basket of things to be filed was full again.
After the center she went to the bank to deposit a property tax refund. She wasn't sure if it would come this year, or if they would take it off next year's taxes, but she was sure happy to see it.
Yesterday mom got some sewing done, and today she will do more, if there is time. She is thrilled to be able to do that again!
I hope you are having a wonderful day, getting sunshine, scritches, and lots of love. Hugs, Willie

  Hi, Peepers
Hey, we got rain yesterday too! It was over by the time mom left work but it was a start. Hopefully we'll get more as the season goes on. Our temps dropped from 80 to the low 70s, so nice out.

One day everything around here will be sorted thru and get things less messy and crowded. One day. Good your mom is tackling it a lil bit at a time.

Some of the battery clocks make a ticking sound. The annoying one got sent to the garage and another just isn't used.

The grand is growing so fast. Skinsis is asking when other things might happen but all babies will do it when ready. However, the crawling, pulling up to stand, getting the first tooth, etc, will all come in the first year.

The parronts are glad skinsis let most of her piercings close but like yours she has a few tattoos. At least 4 of 'em.

Think just working on Kallie's beak more often doing a lil at a time might work better if he cooperates for that short period rather than a prolonged session.

Have a great day, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

Yesterday mom was able to thread the sewing machine a couple of times to do the 2 duvets, and start on a Christmas project, of all things. She had some things cut out and stacked on the machine since March, so she's going to get that done before she cuts out anything else. Falco's still taking meds, fighting every step of the way, but there are only 5 days left, mom said. Of course, she will still use that healing balm on her side even after she finishes the oral antibiotics.
Not much else going on today, we get our cages cleaned, probably after mom gets home from dinner with her sister. I hope you are having a great day and getting lots of sunshine and cuddles. Hugs, Willie

  Hi,Peepers
Busy, busy for your mom, Nana and skinsis again. Good to compare the prices and features of the toaster ovens. Our mom doesn't have one anymore. Guess it would come in handy for heating smaller things that don't need the big oven for.

We have a battery operated clock in most rooms. Helps during power glitches or outages to know the correct time. There was one that never could hold the time so gave up on it.

The camera is all charged now so hopefully a new pic can be taken soon. Skinsis says baby rolled over the other day. Still working on holding her head up but stares at things more now too.

Our skinsis had some facial piercings but long since gave up on 'em. Not sure if it helped her look older though she's always worn a bit of make up. Most just see the short height.

Sounds like if your mom tackles Kallie's beak a lil at a time then he can tolerate it more. That's good she can touch and rub Kallie's beak to help determine how much to dremmel on a different day.

Have a great day, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Peepers
It's another gorgeous day here in Verona, with the sun shining, no rain in sight, and predictions of 70s today. Falco went to the vet for her follow up appointment this morning. Her leg has no more scab on it, and her side is healing. There are even some new feathers growing in! And she's gained 5 more grams, so she's back to 130g, like she should be. Mom was really pleased, and so was Falco. Falco still has a week of antibiotics and that salve to go, but there is an end in sight. Mom is now going to make well bird appointments with this vet for us boys, so she can get some base lines, but probably not until she gets back from Parrot Palooza.
Happy birthday to Jim Henson in memoriam today, we LOVE the muppets! Mom's favorite line from Miss Piggy was, What do you think has more calories, this lighter than air eclair or this 5 pound head of cabbage?
I hope you are having a fantastic day and getting lots of love and sunshine. Hugs, Willie

  Hi, Peepers
Yesterday mom went to work. She got off early and her sis came by to visit and get some knitting tips. Skinsis called for a ride to go shopping for diapers. Off mom went. She took her camera but didn't check the charge and thinks she must've left it on by accident as she'd recently charged it. At least she had nice visit with her sis then later with skinsis and the grand.

Sure seems like Kallie is doing fine and know if it looks like he can't eat or chew then have to check his beak again. Maybe just handle his beak a tad without any work done so he gets more used to it and won't get his tongue in the way.

When one stands on the hard surface then stand on the pad can definitely feel it. Wearing heels just isn't good for standing all day. Sometimes mom would use the cushioned shoe inserts but not sure how much they helped. Yeah, tall stools are hard to get up on, get down from and if no place for feet, yikes! No wonder your mom's legs and feet hurt after all that. Our mom is glad she never worked in a place that had indoor smoking as know the smell clings to hair and clothes.

Yes, being small skinsis was always thought to be very young. When she first started work as a barista she was often mistaken for being too young to work and she was over 18 by then. She would have to wear her hair in a ponytail or up in a clip and often didn't bother with make up so that furthered the young look.

Have a great day, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

We are hoping the warm weather comes back, too. It's too early for cold! We are hoping to get back outside at least once.
Don't forget to go to the milonga page and vote for Rodeo Queen. You only have today and tomorrow left!
Happy Fall! Today when mom walked the dogs, she actually wore a hoodie and long jeans! It's the first time since about April that it has happened. She still refused to put on shoes, though, and walked in her sandals.
It is supposed to warm up later in the day and get warmer all week, but we'll believe that when we see it.
Tomorrow is Falco's follow up appointment at the vet. Mom thinks her side looks a little better, but it's still a big gaping wound. It's gonna take awhile to heal, we fear.
Not much going on around here today. I think mom will clean out the sewing room and maybe move summer and winter clothes around. It is about time for that anyway. If there is time, she may go through the closets and find clothes to donate to St. Vincent de Paul up the street. If not, tomorrow is another day.
This is good news for us, though, we will have mom all day long! Hope you are having a great day too. Hugs, Willie

  Hi, Peepers
Think there were a couple different versions of the soy cheese. Not sure if less fatty, but the one mom got grated just like regular cheese. Think most love cheese and mom'll buy the lower fat ones or just use less.

Must be a tad difficult to hold an uncooperative fid that is trying to bite. Can't hold too hard as could cause injury so as long as he is eating then sounds like the beak work that was done was enough.

At mom's work none of the job descriptions includes sitting. However, there is some law (not sure if just CA or what) that seats must be provided. So the cashiers do have access to a folding chair but think there was only one seasonal worker a long time ago that actually used it. When the registers have the cushioned mat to stand on that does help a lot with the tired feet. We understand about the strong perfumes and that years ago smoking was allowed indoors. So glad that is no longer allowed.

There is a pic of skinsis with her girl cousin. Can't recall their age but maybe 4 or 5? Anyway, skinsis is 6 months older. The only time her cousin was smaller was when she was less than 6 months old. No one would believe 'em when told they were the same age and that skinsis was the older one.

It is good to have those big kid diapers that look like underwear. No kid need worry about an accident.

Have a great day, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Peepers
Hey hey, the Steelers won yesterday!!! Mom didn't watch the whole game as she went to bed, but WOW!!!
Falco has 8 more days on her meds, but today she didn't bite mom, which is a first.
This morning mom took care of the bunny room at the center. You can tell things are winding down for the fall, as there were only 6 occupied cages, and only one of them contained infants. Bunnies in the other cages are eating bunny salad, and are well on their way to release. It's kind of funny, but bunnies get released on the property at the center. The center has many release sites, but the bunnies would get too stressed riding in cars to go elsewhere, so they get released into the pet cemetery there. There are lots of woods around too, so they can always move on, through the woods.
Mom hasn't made bunny salad in a long long time! It was a good day for her, because she hasn't been in the bunny room all summer long. Of course, she was glad not to be, as the room contained up to 20 cages with multiple bunnies in each one during peak baby season. Today was a piece of cake.
I hope you are having a good day and getting some love. It's very cool here, either high 50s or low 60s all day long. Mom might have to change into jeans soon, as her legs are getting a bit cold, heehee. Hugs, Willie

  Hi, Peepers
Glad the family was able to have another BBQ even if weather was muggy. Good to get eggstra meat cooked to use in meals for a few more days. Easy to make more veggies, salad and not have to wait for raw chicken, beef or whatever to cook. Our mom finally made some lasagna with the soy based cheese (substitute for mozzarella) to see what it was like. Dad is trying to eat less cheese and mom saw that version at Trader Joe's. Tasted fine, just isn't stringy like Mozzarella is.

Gosh, that Kallie really didn't want his beak messed with. Hopefully it got dremmeled enough to be smooth and not uneven or overgrown.

When skinsis was a baby our mom wasn't working. At the time dad's work was doing a lot of forced overtime so had enough $$. Think the booster seat law here is 60 pounds, at least 6 years old and not sure the height. Think when skinsis was lil the law was 40 pounds and at least 4 years old. Skinsis didn't reach 40 pounds until age 6 or so? Mom can't recall.

Hmmm, our dad's nephews (older than skinsis) were potty trained quickly (according to dad) since they just watched their dad. Know the younger was only 2 since that was when mom met him and he was already out of diapers. Guess your skinbro was in no hurry, heehee. (Preschools here require kids to be potty trained.)

Temps dropped slightly so in the upper 70s yesterday. Continues breezy so not fall like yet.

Have a great day, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Peepers
Both of those blessings sound so nice! Why do they do them so early there? We do them here around the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi in early October. Falco told Kallie about the one mom went to last year.
The double wedding yesterday was sure beautiful. We all wish the 2 happy couples long life and happiness. We were sorry to have to be silent during the reception, but mom had plans for the evening.
It was her first Night at the Races, a fundraiser for the pool where she goes in the summer. She always bought a horse and jockey for the event, but never went. She never won, either, although her sister has won at least $40 every year! Last night, she and her sister and brother in law went to the dinner and stayed for the races. Guess what? Mom's horse won in its race! Mom won $40, and since she bet on it, she won another $4. (Of course, she spent more than that during the course of the evening.) It sure was fun winning something, though!
Today it's kind of cloudy and it's supposed to be cooler, although when mom walked the dogs, it was sure humid and close. I hope you are having a great day today, getting lots of Sunday love, and having a pleasant weather day as well. Hugs, Willie
