How my tiel and I got together was just a miracle. I had lost my first tiel in 98 and was hoping one would drop on my doorstep and in 2002 we were supposed to babysit him for his previous mommy and she passed away and her friend asked if we would keep him for our own. I was so happy! cause I needed a tiel to fill the hole my first tiel left. Of course my peach fronted conure arrived the day after he died but it was only a tiel that could fill up that hole. I love my conure because she makes me laugh and keeps me happy. I was even happier when Peepers came to fill that void, the void needed by another tiel. I became the owner when my mom asked me if I wanted to keep him and I was like heck ya, I love this tiel so much! I heard his previous mommy wanted to make sure he was in a loving home before she died and he sure is!.

I am a Cinnamon Mutation Cockatiel from Marstons Mills, MA.

Cinnamon Mutation Cockatiel

nutraberries,pa- sta,animal crackers,apple peels,

i like to hang out on the playpen with my 4 conure brothers/sister- s and my pesky lutino brother and on my mommys shoulder.

I dont like showers but mommy makes me go with her but hey at least im a clean boy!, when my brother Mario steals MY perch(Lutino Cockatiel),when i gotta be stuck in the cage when mommy goes to work cuz i like to hop onto the floor because she doesnt want me getting hurt,

I love my mommy cuz she takes real good care of me and gives me lots of loves, she says im a special boy cuz i eat with my foot like a parrot she takes me on car rides, walks on my neat neon yellow harness and leash which i hate but wearing that leash means going out so i gotta be a good boy for mommy and wear it,she likes to snuggle with me and i with her. for my birthday she makes me a special birdie cake topped with seeds cuz i only get pellets for my meals cuz she thinks pellets are alot more healthier for me than seeds and they taste good too! the fruity ones are my fave! im just soo happy she adopted me cuz im happy that i found her and made her soo happy again! me being left at her house was a miracle to her and to me too cuz i have 5 brothers/sister- s for company when mommy goes to work.

i like to eat with my foot like a parrot mommy thinks its soo COOL when i do that,I like to hold my foot up when i sing and she thinks thats soo CUTE!, mommy taught me to play dead, i just lay on my back in the palm of her hand real still she thinks thats soo Cute as well and hopping on the floor and going for a run catch me if u can cuz my little pink tiel legs can move!.

"where there is floor tiel will travel, watch your step cuz im goin for a run!".

  Hi, Peepers
So glad your weather held up so all could attend the Thanksgiving meal together. Too bad about your mom's sis and family not being there but having a smaller group does make it quieter and so fun that the flock got to go along! We're sure Bella and Trixie II enjoy seeing everyone too. Good to have the variety of food and lots leftover for easy munching on the next day or two.

By the time mom and others starting at midnight most of the crowds had thinned. Still busy but no big lines since enough workers to take care of everyone. Only thing confusing was a special 4 hour sale that had ended hours prior and another sale that didn't start until 7am. Mom and others had to start putting up those signs at 6:30 so shoppers would know the special price. Many good bargains and some things did sell out.

Management provided food for the employees so they didn't have to leave. Gives more time to sit and eat if not having to go out and get it first. Mom always bring hers but nice to have the company provide it too.

Almost at the same time the four 'tiels open their wings wide for a big group 'tiel wing hug. No birdie wants to let go, but Silver breaks away to grab his guitar. He strums it and begins to sing 'Beautiful Star' by the Oak Ridge Boys and soon the other three are joining in on the chorus. They are gonna enjoy singing holiday songs.

Have a great day, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

Come visit me, Pearl & Silver.

  Hi, Peepers
Happy Thanksgiving to the flock and family.

Think the grand got carrot on her dad and all over the bib but missed her own clothes. Skinsis probably has bigger bibs and knows now a bigger one is better. Good to see the grand enjoying the new food and hope she is a good eater and not picky.

Gosh, dark enough at 2pm and needed the lights turned on? Hopefully you won't get too much rain and hope we get some for our w/e as forecast.

Eggspect a lot of birds might not get on BC today since it'll be busy with cooking and visiting with friends and family. Hopefully your dad and your mom's sis and kids are able to attend the feast.

With wings wide open all four 'tiels embrace for a big group 'tiel wing hug. They begin to hum and sway and bask in the warmth and love of their friendship on this special of days.

Have a great day, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

Come visit me, Pearl & Silver.

It sounds like mom had a busy day! That is kinda funny about all the seagull poop. I bet they knew mom was a bird lover! We do have our unique way of showing that we care, don't we?

Well, we got another 5+ inches of wet heavy snow for about a foot total. The roads were good though. Not sure what we get tonight. Mom doesn't believe the forecasts as they seldom turn out as predicted. We know how you feel.

Mom went to the store to pick up some groceries but they were out of a lot of the things she wanted as the produce delivery must have been delayed because of the snow so she has to go back again:( She did get the peanuts for the jays though and they sure were happy when she put out some for them today. They made them disappear very quickly;) Must be hard for the wild critters with weather like this.

I bet you would love to peek inside that bag! Sounds like fun:) I can't wait until Santa Bird comes either! I just know I am getting a loot!

I hope your weather is not too bad and that you and yours have a very Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow!

Hugs,

Jazz

  Hi Peepers
Eeewwww, gull poop all over the car! Does dad use poop off to clean it, heehee? Mom says that stuff works wonders in our cages, maybe it would be okay for the car, but a bit eggspensive...
Daisy surprised mom with how well she did in class last night. She picked up things easily and practiced with mom and never tired out. The clicker training works!
BC is running so slow!
We all want to wish you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving in case we don't get online tomorrow. Mom is cooking and the bird is big, so we have to get up early to supervise.
It was supposed to flurry today, but it's been snowing since 9AM. There's no sign of a let up either. We are hoping everyone who is traveling this holiday gets to a destination safely.
Mom got her nails done this morning, and got her new driver's license. She kept looking outside while she was at the nail salon, hoping that the snow would stop, but no such luck.
Now that she's home, once she's done serving as our typist, she will bake pies, get the cranberry sauce ready, and do other little things so tomorrow goes smoothly. We are only having 10 people here, but it's still a chore to make sure all goes well. I hope you are having a good day, getting to taste test, or at least supervise, all the cooking that's going on. Make sure to get lots of scritches and cuddles today, too. Hugs, Willie

  Hi, Peepers
Temps didn't quite reach 70 but was very nice out yesterday. Forecast here is for rain but it isn't to start until late Fri so shouldn't impact Thanksgiving travel in our area. Hope your predicted bad weather holds off too so the entire family can be together.

Last night's meal was wonderful. Lots of food and lots of leftovers to make sandwiches, soup, etc. The grand kept staring at first her dad's plate then her mom's plate. Later she was fed some carrots and seemed to love them. Skinsis says she didn't like peas but enjoyed sweet potato. Wiped out her bib but it was kinda too small. Needs one that covers the entire chest area. Think that one must've been a drooler bib and the grand isn't much of a drooler. (Now, when she gets teeth that might change, heehee.)

Good idea to only give Nana's fids the pellets as they'll eat it eventually. No sense in giving 'em the mix if they are picky and toss much of it.

The crescent rolls are being saved for another day since skinsis brought some sweet Hawaiian rolls. Those went well with the meal too.

The new roaster works so well. Much easier to clean than the oven and wonder if saves energy? Not sure on that one yet but would assume so since heating up a much smaller space than the oven. Might have to try making stew in it.

The four 'tiel open their wings wide for a big group 'tiel wing hug. They are so thankful for their friendship and happy and joyful in the warm embrace. Pearl begins to hum and immediately Silver, Peepers and Mario join in as they sway and never want to let go.

Keep warm, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

I'm standing here before you, because I'm not behind you.

I know you've all heard it before, but I just had to let you know that our second favorite bird show is this Sunday, over in Plant City, also known as the Strawberry Capital of the world.

This is the show that's held outdoors, under a gazillion old oak trees on 4-5 acres. Out in the middle of no where. But it is by far well worth the drive, and we know good stuff will be coming our way. Mom said it's time for a new cage for me, so I might get a BIG present. Then we have to wait until January for our next show over in Orlando, near Goofy World.

Come visit me, JeTTa.

It has been a while! I have to tell mom to get her act together and blog for us more often! I hope you don't get a bad storm for your Thanksgiving. Hopefully you can all get together and have a nice time visiting;) Oh, I love it when mom brings parcels home with things for us too! Did you get a look in the bag? Now you got me curious, but then you know how curious us 'tiels are! Rumor has it that the toys mom is giving us have lots of balsa on them and I love balsa! Mind you, I love to rip into just about anything....LOL! Mom says I am a bit of a buzz saw:) We got about 5 inches of wet snow overnight so it is squishy out. I am glad I am an indoor birdie:) Hope you have a good evening;)

  Hi, Peepers
No apology necessary for missing a visit as nobirdie was able to blog after the morning. We had started and before finishing just kept getting squawked and sure glad it only took a day to return.

Okay, mom tried out the roaster again. This time she baked a piece of salmon and just set it on a piece of foil and placed it in a pan. Turned out moist and mom normally steams it and has the pan to clean afterwards. This was much easier. The thing with the oven is having to move the racks in/out and lots more steam. If only doing small things might use that more often.

The Thanksgiving meal will be later tonight. Mom had prepped the sweet potatoes and dressing yesterday. Made jello and pumpkin pie. In between blogs she drained some mixed fruit and whipped up the cream to make ambrosia as skinsis would miss that. Also prepping the potatoes to cook for mashed potatoes, simmering the giblets for gravy, cutting up veggies to steam and of course prepping the turkey. Got some cresent rolls to bake too as didn't have room in the fridge to make a batch of dough. Gonna smell so wonderful here.

We only like the bite sized pellets for 'tiels. Don't care the brand so long as the size is correct and is natural colored. Good that Trixie II is eating 'em and while Bella could handle bigger pellets she seems to want 'em easy to munch on or else is being part of the flock by sharing the same type of food as Trixie II. Sounds like the madagascar mix needs to be for special occasions only.

Hope weather is reasonable for Thanksgiving for all the travelers. We should be warmish and more rain forecast for the w/e.

Pearl & Silver open their wings wide and wait for Peepers and Mario to follow suit and all four embrace. Almost immediately they begin to sway and Silver starts the humming with the others joining in. They never want to let go. Their friendship means the world to them.

Have a great day, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Peepers
Mom had fun at the wildlife center yesterday, she did the RVS animals again, which means she fed the bats. She loves doing that, they think they are so fierce, baring their teeth at her! She also did the raccoons outside, as well as the raccoon and ground hog inside.
Today we are going to make cornbread for the stuffing. I hope we all get a sample. If mom has the ambition, she will bake the pies, but she would prefer to wait until tomorrow so they will be fresher. Mom's daughter ordered a fresh local turkey which she will pick up after work and drop here on her way home.
Mom does have an errand today: she needs a 6 foot lead for Daisy's class tonight. She got the mat, the treats are ready, the clicker is in her pocket, but she doesn't have a small 6' leash. The one she has is really thick, too big for that little dog. I only hope she is able to teach that dog some manners! Mom has done her homework all week, so maybe there's a chance this dog will be better by the end of class.
I hope you are all having a good day. Don't forget to come by the Lakers page today to celebrate Thanksgiving with our team! Hugs, Willie

  Hi, Peepers
The parronts saw a big electric roaster the other day and contemplated buying and using it. Well they didn't but dad kept thinking about it so finally went back and bought it. They tested it out to see how it works and it worked fine so the turkey is gonna go in that. Splitting up the prep between a couple of days will make it less work on Tue to get everything cooked/baked in time for an early dinner.

Gosh, sure hope Nana's fids start eating those new pellets. Wonder why both of 'em became so picky? They should just eat what's in their bowls.

No more rain for us. Looks like it'll be clear and mild for the rest of our week.

  Hi Peepers
Mom is a little hoarse today, but she doesn't know if it's from the furnace being out, the weather being so damp, or talking all day yesterday. We'll see what happens after the tours today.
Sorry we weren't able to blog yesterday. Mom was at the Galleria, a shopping area about 20 miles (through city traffic) away. The event started at 12 and ran to 4, but the folks from the wildlife center wanted all the volunteers there at 11 to help set things up, and of course, they stayed at the end to put it all back in the vans. Mom and her partner had Quincy and Dan Quail; Jake the snake was at another table, and Ray the crow was in still another location on the second level. On the third level there were programs every hour featuring Murphy the skunk and Martha the Great Horned Owl. There were also refreshments and kid crafts, as well as face painting on that level. It was a fairly large event to organize and pull off so far from the center, but a local auto company outfitted a van and donated it for a year. It has cages in it, and is comfortable for a lot of animals, and has cats, dogs, and wild animals painted on the sides so we can now transport critters to events and hopefully make more cash.
Anyway, mom was pretty tired when she got home so she spent the evening cuddling with us and crocheting things for Christmas.
Today mom has 2 public tours in Dinosaur hall, but she'll be home making out the shopping list for Thanksgiving and being with us afterwards. We were going to try a Hubbard squash pie this year, but mom left the squash on the back deck, and it froze, so it's not good for anything except squirrels and deer now. Mom tossed it and the pumpkins over the hill for the animals this morning.
Our weather, after freezing rain yesterday morning (during the drive, of course), has turned warmer. It was in the high 40s when we got up today, and it's supposed to carry through until tomorrow, and be nice once again. It's probably our last hurrah, though. We can expect wintery conditions to get here again on Wednesday. Oh, and the furnace is finally up and running reliably after the guy replaced some pressure switches on Friday. I hope you are having a great day and getting lots of attention and love. Hugs, Willie

  Hi, Peepers
It is always nicer to be able to run errands when the sun is out even if cold. Doesn't seem as dreary and dismal so long as properly bundled up and have gloves, hat, scarf, etc to ward off the wind.

So wonderful that Dixie can visit with Trixie II and Mario with Bella as know Nana's fids must enjoy the company of having another parrot in the room than being alone while the hoomans are getting supplies. So, so yucky to have to deal with a dump run in the cold (let alone the smell!) but at least when go together it is quicker.

Hopefully those pellets will get eaten. Can't be too picky, right?

Such good bargains your mom and Nana seem to find. Sure helps to stretch a dollar these days to be able to stock up on items one uses all the time.

Mom and skinsis decided on Tue as their Thanksgiving meal. The best day for both their work schedules so mom'll be busy getting things prepped to cook on Tue when she gets home from work. Just need to get a turkey.

Silver & Pearl open their wings wide for a big group 'tiel wing hug with Peepers and Mario. As they embrace Mario begins the humming and as the others join in all four are swaying and basking in the warmth and love of friendship.

  Hi Peepers
Mom is sorry she didn't get those books mailed yet, but with waiting for the furnace to be fixed, she hasn't been able to leave the house. Hopefully she will get them out next week, maybe Monday or Tuesday. She will wrap them today, though, so they'll be ready for the post office.
Well, we are hoping for an end to the seemingly eternal furnace saga today. Yesterday the nice young man stayed and checked absolutely everything out. It was all running nicely when he left, but 2 hours later, the temps were falling and the furnace was not responding. Mom's sister brought over some batteries she had just bought, in case the ones mom put in as replacements were somehow too old. They didn't help! So, mom called the company back. The nice young man called her and asked if she wanted him to come back last night, but she said it was under control, and she'd see him today. Well, it was 57 again this morning when mom got up! She turned off and restarted the furnace like he had showed her yesterday, and it worked to warm the house.
Mom went ahead and ran a couple of errands before going to the center for her shift, so she would be home by noon. She called the company when she got home just to let them know, and the secretary didn't have her on the schedule for today! You can imagine mom's dismay. They finally got it straightened out, and the same guy will come today to install the new switches. We all sincerely hope this is the end of the story, because it's getting old. Plus, mom worries about how these temperature changes are affecting us birds. Mom is listening for changes in our breathing and is really alert to our posture. So far, we all seem to be okay.
This morning at the center, mom cleaned the main aviary, the little screech owl in the habitat building, and the raptor aviaries. There is a turkey in one of them, heehee. We know, turkeys are not raptors. It is keeping him close to the building, though, so he can't get as cold as he would if he were in a free standing outdoor pen.
The pigeon is still gaining weight, and the little waxwings have their light, so mom was happy to see that. LT. Dan, the wood turtle, is still trying to escape, but not bruising his little armpits, because the pillowcase solution seems to be working.
We may be late or not get online at all tomorrow because mom is working an event from 11 to 4, so if you don't hear from us, we're okay. She was going to have Jake the snake with her, but they have her assigned to Quincy and Dan Quail instead. They put others with the snake, turtles, Irwin, etc.
I hope you are having a warmer time than we are, and getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Willie

  Hi, Peepers
Yesterday's high was just under 60 and no real sun. Rained off and on lightly thru the day. Gives it time to soak in. Must be easier when cold to not have to also deal with wind or snow. When the parronts went to the beach to scatter gma's ashes it was sunny and slightly windy. Think temps were probably 60s? Well, a friend of theirs drove up from Palm Springs and he told mom he was freezing! Had a leather jacket on while most everyone else had a light jacket or no jacket. Said he came from 80+ temps.

Most grocery stores have the cash registers near the door. So on cold days probably feel more cold when people are going in and out. Does skinsis wear some fingerless gloves? Would help and won't hinder working the register.

Think the parronts will be doing Thanksgiving at their house since mom's parronts will be on a cruise. Mom's thinking of having it on Tue as knows skinsis will be working Thanksgiving and mom undoubtedly will have the midnight shift as that's what she's working already. Mom will make as many things ahead of time or at least prep 'em so ready to cook/bake.

As the 4 'tiels open their wings for a big group 'tiel wing hug Peepers begins the humming and the others join in one at a time and harmonize and all feel the warmth and love from their embrace.

Keep warm, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

So sorry about Dixie and Mario. Lots of hugs for your sweet Mom. Last Thursday Sunshine was on the bottom of her cage barely breathing. Mom held Sunshine while she took her final breaths. Sunshine was doing fine up until that morning, not in any pain. Mom placed her body in a cookie tin and buried her in the backyard. It's so weird not having my older fister around.   Hi Peepers
Mom waited and waited for the guy to fix the furnace last night. He finally came around 6:15. Of course, when he got here, the furnace kicked on! He looked and decided there was nothing wrong, except that when mom changed the batteries she forgot to put the override hold button on. He pushed the button, charged mom, and left. This morning when mom got up, it was 59 degrees in here again. She called them back before going to work. She told the girl who assigns people what happened, and that she was going to work and wouldn't be home until 1 or so. The girl promised we'd get an earlier visit today. Mom jiggled the thermostat this morning and had it working for awhile, but when she got home from work, it was only 60 in here again! The guy got here by 1:30 and he just left a few minutes ago.
When he went down and took the door off the furnace, it kicked on! He checked all the switches, the intake and outgo vents, and everything else he could think of. He thinks there might have been dust or something causing the pressure switches to shut off. He air sprayed to clean, and told mom if it happens again, he has the info he needs to get replacement switches. Right now it's warming up, hopefully it will stay that way.
Meanwhile, mom did her tour in animals this morning with second grade, and enjoyed it. She went to visit her nephew who had a second surgery following his auto accident (Last February), and he's doing great!
I hope you are toasty warm, and getting lots of love today. Hugs, Willie

Daytime temps at 27? Hope it went up more than that! Yikes! Rarely even see that as overnight temps here. We are supposed to reach very low 60s but currently only mid 50s and overcast. Got a tad bit of rain but not sure how much as might get more.

Yeah, grocery stores do tend to be cold inside as they have so much perishables. Our mom always wears an eggstra shirt or sweater when she goes. Sounds like your mom and Nana got a lot of great bargains. Think the food shopping for Thanksgiving will be done tomorrow after mom gets home from work. She's thinking of having the meal on Tue since she's fairly certain she won't have to work on Wed (that's the normal day off for the night shift.

The 4 'tiels all open their wings wide for a big group 'tiel wing hug. Nobirdie wants to let go. As they begin to sway and hum they feel warm and happy and never want the feeling to go away.

Keep warm, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

Come visit me, Pearl & Silver.

We learned a new word form the weather peoples, it's SNOWvember. I kind of like the sound of that to describe all the snow in Buffalo. RT

  Hi Peepers
It's been colder here than it has at your house! Yesterday and the day before, it never got out of the teens! I think today might be in the 20s, and tomorrow the warm up will start, into the 30s.
We are sitting here waiting for the furnace guys to show up. Yesterday when mom was doing our blogs, she started feeling cold. When she went downstairs, she saw that it was only 57 in the house. She called the furnace guys, then she changed the batteries in the thermostat. The furnace kicked on, so she called them back and cancelled the appointment. BIG MISTAKE! She woke up around 5 this morning feeling chilly, waited to hear the furnace kick on, and when it didn't, she went downstairs and saw it was only 52 in here! She fiddled with the batteries again, and called the furnace guys to set up another appointment today.
She had to work at the museum today, so she ended up asking the cleaning woman to stay and wait in case they came before she got back. Well, she got back at 1 and they still hadn't shown up yet, but Debbie, the cleaning woman, said she had taken down the thermostat 4 times and pushed the batteries around to get the furnace to start again. So now we are waiting.
Mom's tours this morning were a real challenge. She had 2 special needs groups of children. The first group had all nonverbal kids, and all of them were holding hands with one of the chaperones. Some of them couldn't walk very well, either, so they went slowly and took elevators to all the floors. The second group was much larger, bigger group and bigger kids. Many of them were nonverbal as well, and most of them were on a cognitive level somewhere below kindergarten. Mom got through the two tours well, but they were exhausting. All she said to her boss was Thank God and God bless the people who work with these children full time! Mom dealt with some special needs kids when she taught, but not so many at a time. These people need our thanks, for sure! They probably need a lot more money than they are making as well, but they do it for the same reason all teachers do, for the love of the children.
I hope it's warmer there than here, it hasn't gotten too warm today, but tomorrow and Friday it should rise into the high 30s and maybe into the 40s. We do have sun today, so it doesn't feel as cold somehow!
Mom has homework all week before Daisy even goes to class next week! We'll talk more about it later. I hope you are getting lots of attention today, and savoring every hug. Hugs, Willie

  Hi, Peepers
It is very annoying to lose the landline when the service goes out. Takes awhile to reset it. Oh, and how can one get assistance if no phone to call? Oh, and it is amusing when using the cell phone to call and the automated messages says one can get help by going to the website! Duh, nothing working!

Good idea to cover the perch with a bit of soft material. Hopefully nothing that the claw could get caught in but know your mom will probably have to swap it out to clean and can check for snags.

Temps here about the same and sunny but cools quickly. Guess that wind cancels out any warmth your sun might have brought.

It really is good to share all the baked goods with the skinsibs and Nana. As you say Nana has the eggstra desserts without having to spend time making it when the skinsibs eat with her.

Saddens us to hear of areas getting so much rain they get flood issues when if shared with us it would all be useful.

The 4 'tiels all open their wings wide for a big group 'tiel wing hug and this time Pearl begins the humming. Silver, Peepers and Mario begin to harmonize and sway as the warmth, joy and love of their friendship binds them together in happiness.

Keep warm, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Peepers
Rip-Off
The cost of what you pay for a cup of fancy coffee at home is going up -- not down -- thanks to a tricky move by the dominant home coffee brewing company.

How your 2.0 Keurig is ripping you off

It recently came to my attention that the Keurig people are making a 2.0 version of their machine with DRM (digital rights management).

I know this sounds crazy, but Keurig is using the Digital Millennium Copyright Act -- a controversial law designed to protect the entertainment industry -- to force you to only use proprietary K coffee pods in their new machine!

My executive producer likes to make individual off-brand K cups at home using a Keurig machine. That drives the cost down to around 6 cents a cup.

How much is your coffee habit costing you?

But as more and more people do what Christa does, Keurig has watched their profits go down. That’s because their business model is based on them making money from all the different coffee manufacturers who pay them royalties to have their coffee in K cups.

So Keurig came out with the 2.0 machine that has a computer chip in it to sense anytime somebody is trying to save money making coffee...and it will not let them make their coffee!

Even if you buy an off-brand refillable coffee pod, if it doesn't have the Keurig logo on it, it can sense that too.

You're better served right now with the older 1.0 versions of the Keurig machines to avoid this DRM ploy. They're available for $50 to $75. Buy one of the older ones if you are price sensitive.

  Hi Peepers
That's so good that Aunt Teri knew about those soft perches, then. Lots of vets, unless they are avian specialists, don't know about the latest products available for us feathered guys.
Mom had a docent meeting this morning, and they reviewed a new exhibit that opened on the 8th. It's a guy named Knight who did a lot of animal art, and illustrated his dinos and mosasaurs and such by actually looking at the skeletal structures and using science to help him, instead of fantasizing about what the animals looked like. We look at some today, though, and it's easy to see how dated they are. The new knowledge about dinos, for instance, shows them in completely different positions in life. Still, for his time, he was a terrific artist. Mom found out at the meeting that he was legally blind almost all his life, too, which makes the artwork all the more remarkable.
She is reading the Scientific American magazine that came out in August about dinosaurs right now, too, so she's pretty much immersed in the Mesozoic!
Tonight, though, mom will go to the Humane Society for her first class in adult dog obedience for Daisy. We all think it's time for Daisy to go to school, since mom has not been a good trainer at home, at least as far as her fixating on us is concerned.
It snowed overnight, and is about 20 degrees out right now, with the wind chill making it feel around 0, so mom is indoors for the rest of the day, at least until tonight. I hope you are having a better day, at least warmer. Get lots of cuddles, and maybe some warm cider if you are cold. Hugs, Willie

  Hi, Peepers
We have never had out power gone for more than 2 days and that length only happened once. The landline does go out if the cable is out and the parronts do have cell phones which they charge mostly in the car as the home one is very slow. Don't have the eggstra movie package deals either. Hmmm, not very nice not to tell what the price sans package deal would be, probably something a lot higher.

Good to get Mario his own rope perch as they are quite comfy. Does he also have a shelf to sit on? We don't but that's another thing to use and not have to grip with the claws so much. Pearl likes to 'wall cling' on the side of the birdhouse.

The rain forecast for us (Wed and Fri?) won't be very much but we'll take what we can get. Think north of us will receive more. Hopefully you won't lose any power with that lightning, thunder and rain going on.

Giving away a lot of the baking ensures everyone enjoys it and your mom won't eat too much of it, heehee. Can't beat the wonderful scents it leaves and the eggstra heat too.

The 4 'tiels all open their wings wide and join in a big group 'tiel wing hug and hold on tight for the warmth of love and friendship. Silver begins humming and the others immediately start harmonizing and swaying and nobirdie wants to let go.

Keep warm, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Peepers
It's so clever of your mom to have soft perches for Mario and Dixie to help their poor little feet.
Today at the center, mom was training a person in the aviaries. The small flight one was empty and had been painted. There was nothing to do in there. The main aviary had been painted on the inside, so they went outdoors to change out food, water, and towels for the hide boxes. Whoever was out there yesterday left all the food and water out in the open, so the food dishes were soaked, and the birds, of course, won't eat wet seed. Their water was yellow, because of the rain coming through all the leaves on top of the aviary, so they didn't drink. They were sure glad to see fresh dry food and clean water coming their way.
Then mom and the trainee went into the avian nursery. There were only 3 cages in there to clean, so they got that done fairly quickly. The little cedar waxwings were in the dark because of the location of their cage. Mom talked to staff, and they came in to help move the cage to a window location, but it's a dismal day, so mom suggested they put up a light. Jess found a small socket which took a 40 watt bulb, so mom came home and got one, but it didn't fit! She ended up going to the hardware store after her shift, carrying the shade and socket, and found a light there that fit. So, after her third trip to the center, they finally have a light that works, so those little guys won't be in the dark.
The trainee was supposed to get trained in the rat room, too, but it was mom's time to leave, so the next volunteer supervisor got to take her in there to train.
Mom checked on the wood turtle, that solution is still working. She also checked up on the pigeon, who is up to 331 grams today! That's a gain of 12 grams in 3 days, YAY! That's all the news, except that the red tailed hawk got moved into the raptor mews today, which is good news. It means he/she is on the road to recovery.
I hope you are having a good day and getting lots of cuddles. Hugs, Willie

  Hi, Peepers.
We have the same cable company. Our price doesn't change since we got the newest deal which was a lil lower than it was before. Your mom could ask if there are any special deals she could get that would give her a better price. Never watch the HD versions either. The regular versions should also be available though. Just have to watch out for anything that charges a fee as some shows and movies have added cost in the on demand section. However, many are free so that is good.

Guess us 'tiels just love to climb. Good that Mario is also using Dixie's special perch and hopefully your mom can find more of them so less strain on the gout affected toes. Love the rope perches!

Good to do a lot of baking with skinsis. Warms up the house and provides lots of fresh yummy things to eat! Makes the house smell wonderful too.

You've been on BC 8 years? Wow! Congrats! We just passed year 4 in Aug. Sure glad it hasn't shut down!

Pearl & Silver open their wings wide for a big group 'tiel wing hug with Peepers and Mario. While it isn't cold in CA they know their friends need all the eggstra warmth and love. Doesn't take long for the humming and swaying to begin.

Have a great day, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

Come visit me, Pearl & Silver.

  Hi Peepers
We are so sorry to hear that both Mario and Dixie have little sore feet with the cold weather. I hope they can both feel better soon, and can find a way to warm their little toes.
Today mom has to do a cart at the museum from one to four, which means we'll miss the game, unless she tapes it. She will be in Dinosaurs in their time, and that's always a fun cart for her to do. She usually sets up outside Paleolab, which is where the preparators get the fossils ready for display, or make casts for other museums, or whatever. They are working on our mastodon right now, repairing some stress fractures which resulted from improper mounting in the early 1900s. Once that's done, they will clean up the rest of the fossil and put it back on display across from the Columbian mammoth.
Anyway, mom will probably display skulls today, since the mastodon skull is so prominent in Paleolab's windows right now.
We will get our time with her after she gets back, and with any luck, she'll stop at the grocery store and get us some goodies.
I hope you have a great Sunday, practicing your football moves (or cheerleading moves) for our big milonga game, or just watch TV, whatever makes you happy. Hugs, Willie
