New Private Bird Club Website Sign Up & Info
Hi Every birdie! Squeaky's mom is working with two web designers to build a new and improved but similar bird club for us to play on since our beloved BC will be deleting our Bird eClub sometime this year! We need your support! So start nagging your parronts so we can stay together!
Basically, the more parronts that sign up, the cheaper the initial set up fee will be and also the annual fee to join the site. For more information and to sign up to participate please visit my page 28415 and leave an email address. Or you can email my mom, Sunny, directly at our email nubinskis@aol. com. She will send you all the up to date information that has been sent so far and she can answer all your questions. She also told me to tell you that all ideas and suggestions are most welcome. She also is hoping to find some parronts that have some expertise in working with advertisers and who would volunteer to get advertisers for the site. If that happens, costs would be next to nothing or maybe even nothing for all of us to play together.
So send your parronts to my page 28415 or email us to get information, leave suggestions and to sign up!
Hugs and Love to all! Squeaky, Picabo & Scion

  Hi Cori
Thanks for the email for the site support. Mom will send a long letter to them. That contact us thing at the top of the screen wasn't working for us either! I think you should put that paragraph on the calendar page if you haven't already for every bird to see. Mom was going to write today but, dad had mom going to town almost all day for things. He never plans anything ... always last minute (his family is like that). Mom likes to kind of plan her day.
We're having a heat wave ... it was 73 degrees today with sun!!!! I had a nice sunbath on the patio. But tonight should be 51 degrees, better than 45! That nasty polar vortex is playing with us again. I wish it would completely go away. Hope everyone had a nice day. G'nite.

  Hi Cori and Boo boo
Thanks for the information and mom wrote it all down too.
Well the parronts had another early meal today and I got my condo cleaned earlier too which should of made me more aware but you know how that goes. Anyway off they went to leave me. Said they were going to the farm…doesn’t dad know his mom doesn’t live there any more?? Guess he misses it since he did grew up there and they got to see the nephew and his family a bit. Then the parronts visited old friends that live up that way that dad went to school with. They got home in time to tuck me in for the night so guess that was ok and I was a bit tired from the vet visit yesterday so got caught up on my beauty sleep while they were gone. “I have learned its not what I have in life but who I have in my life that counts.“ Leaving a vote for you …your friend, Gus (RIP Chi chi)

  Hi Cori
It was a beautiful day here 77 degrees and bright warm sunshine with a bit of a breeze.Mom finished her chores and then late in the afternoon took us all out on the deck again to have a soaking shower and then let us dry off in the sunshine. While we were there and while dad was cleaning and filling up the birdbath a brown hummingbird came by with a white belly and hovered on the deck in front of Mom for what seemed an eternity and then she turned and hovered over by Candida and then she came over and took a look at us me and Dixie, before she headed for the hummerfeeder and then departed! We got to stay outside til well after dinner with the parronts and then as Mom was getting ready to clean up and go in to take her shower and get us ready to go back to our cages,Skin bro showed up and brought Mom her belated birthday present,RIO 2!Skin bro stayed and chatted with Mom and dad for over an hour and talked about his job and then he left around seven pm at which point Mom ran up to take her shower! She is off and running again tomorrow to go the the dump with Nana and get some errands done while we stay home and wait for my dad to feed us our snacks!
Last night Mom was having so much trouble with BC,it would keep cycling and cycling over and over and wouldn't load the pages and then when it finally did over 15 to 20 minutes later I would get the day befores blogs and not the blogs for yesterday! It was so frustrating and it just took so long as each time we would try to send a blog this would happen to us and the later it got the more harder it got to get any messages out at all and we never got our blogs for yesterday back at all at one point!Mom finally gave up around 2am,she was way to tired to deal with it and all the frustrations it brought!
Wishing you a greyt day and I'm sending you all my love along with warm birdie hugs and soft beakie kisses,Loving you always and forever,my sweet Cori!Love,Kallie

  Hi Cori
I don't have Crystal's email, but I did just do a message on the "contact us" page. Not that it will do any good.

Mom and I got out for the sunbath this morning at 9, but we were back inside by 9:45 because it was already getting too warm. High in the upper 90s today, and Mom has a pre-surgery appointment with her GI doc this afternoon at 5. Probably be about 90 still, and she is sure glad Gloria's a/c works well and cranks up fast.

Last night when Dad poked his head into my room to say hi, I was right at the door! He backed up and couldn't close the door without squishing me. So he walked down the hall and I waddled right behind him. He walked pretty slowly, so I did too and when he stopped I did too and gave him the old evil eye. Then Mom came out of my room and scooped me up. I am sure I had Dad terrified though...don't you think?

  Hi Cori and Boo Boo
hello everybirdie. Zeena here on my final day of July. Today I want to take the time to thank you all for all the wonderful comments, and helpful topic input. When any bird runs for BOTM, it is a family affair. No one can make it to the BC Castle with out the help and votes of their many friends. I have met many awesome birds this month, and have learned a great deal about the various species we visited.
With a flock legacy of BOTMs to follow after, it was a challenge to equal their efforts and enthusiasm. Sky, Little Angel (Adler) and my frother Casey set the measure by which I hoped to inform and share with you. I had the most wonderful month. Thank you one and all.
This being my final BOTM Post I decided to stop by and visit with a beautiful and unusual species that is a delight to watch.

The Black Palm Cockatoo is considered to be the most beautiful of the Cockatoos.

However, the Palm Cockatoo is endangered in the wild and is mostly kept for breeding purposes. While the Palm Cockatoo is known for being loving and affectionate, just like any Cockatoo, they are also very needy. If you own a Cockatoo, then you know why they are called the "love sponges" of the parrots. And you also know that they are the most needy of all the pet birds and often love their owners too much.

Cockatoos require a lot of time and attention--much more than any other pet bird. If you are able to spend at least two full hours a day with your bird (out of his cage), not leave the house for 6 or more hours everyday, cook for your bird and provide him with a variety of healthy foods, handle the loud screaming, afford the large cage and huge amount of toys, and deal with the adjustment stage that can include aggression, then rescuing a Cockatoo might be a great idea. Make sure you research as much as possible because you don't want to add to the already out-of-hand rescue problem.

Because so many Cockatoos are left to rescues, I highly encourage you to visit your local parrot rescue, see what I'm talking about, and consider rescuing one of these poor majestic creatures instead of buying one in a store. If you can handle all this, then this really might be the right bird for you.

But keep in mind that Black Palm Cockatoos in particular are very hard to find. They can cost upwards of $16,000 because of their rarity and endangered status. So, don't get your hopes up if you have your mind set on this species.

  Hello Cori~
I hope you are having a great day! Is your internet all better? We lost ours on Sunday but it was only for a few minutes. They should deduct the time it was not working from your bill, but they won't.
I had no idea that poor Boo Boo hurt her leg! I am so very far behind on blogs that I feel like I don't know what is going on here on the BC. It's all mom's fault of course! She can't seem to stay awake for long when she sits down so she only does a few blogs at a time and then gets up to do somethings around the house. It's really cutting into my social time! I don't like it but mom says it is the way it's going to be for a while. It does not mean that I do not think of you everyday!
I hope the day is just perfect!

We are missing summer! It's another cool day here too, but it's supposed to hit 80, so we'll see what happens. There was a strange glow in the sky this morning, and mom actually put on sunglasses. She told us not to stare at it, in case it gets scared and goes away. Even if it's gorgeous today, it will not be a pool day for mom because of the appointment with the eye surgeon. We'll let you know what's going on tomorrow.

  Hi Cori and Boo Boo
Hello to all my BC friends. Zeena here with today's BOTM Post. Today we will take a look at one of natures most beautiful birds, also my Momma Deb's" dream-bird", the Hyacinth Macaw.
The largest species of macaw, Hyacinth grows to be up to 40 inches (1 m) long. The Hyacinth Macaw survives today in three known distinct population in southern Brazil, eastern Bolivia and northeastern Paraguay. In 1990, the wild population was estimated to be 2,500 birds. The world’s captive population is probably much larger, numbering in the thousands. Today, the wild population is less then 600 individuals. They are critically endangered in their native habitat.
Of the 145 species of parrot in Central and South America, 45 are in danger of extinction. All 18 species of macaws are threatened. The primary causes are habitat loss and heavy exploitation for the pet trade. The Hyacinth Macaw is especially vulnerable to capture and habitat destruction because it is noisy, intrinsically fearless, predictable, and dependent on palm trees. Hyacinth Macaws do not breed every year even under the best circumstances, so the predation on chicks is particularly bad for the species’ survival. Since captured young survive so poorly (up to 99 percent die between capture and final sale), adults are sometimes trapped through liming of perches or use of baited clap-nets. Still, for every macaw that arrives safely abroad, it is likely that five died on the way.
The United States is the largest market for the exotic pet trade. In the last decade, 8.5 million birds, at least 85 percent of birds captured in the wild, were imported or smuggled into the United States. Even when the export of birds is controlled, the domestic bird trade often is not regulated. Another threat to the Hyacinth Macaw is the increased commercial sale of feather art by the Kayapo Indians of Gorotire in southern Brazil. The feathers from up to 10 Hyacinth Macaws are needed to make one headdress. In addition, ranchers kill Macaws because they believe that Hyacinths damage palm trees, which ranchers use for fenceposts, and scare cattle with their noisy behavior. In some places, local people still hunt Macaws for meat. Add to this clear-cutting of Rainforest and you can see the danger the Hyacinth population has to becoming extinct within the next decade.
Compound all the above and it is easy to calculate that their best chance of survival as a species is through captive breeding. Selling in Canada at upwards to $40,000US each these beauties of the Rainforest will remain one the worlds most desired Macaw species.
One more Question for Thought.
It is often people’s love of animals that causes them to desire exotic animal pets. What can be done to educate pet owners about the impacts of wild-caught birds and other animals?

  Hi Cori
You are welcome to our heat. I don't want it!

Hey, is anybirdy else missing their avatar and the ones in their aviary? I got nothing! Very annoying!

Well! My mom made a deep dish blueberry pie this morning before she went to the gym. What's the problem, you ask? The morning is MY time! Yes, she did take me out for my sunbath before she made the pie, and yes she did sit in my room with me while it was baking. Just because it is too hot in the afternoons to turn on the oven, I had to give up at least 30 minutes of MY mommy time while she put that pie together. And I only like the crust. She could have just baked a crust for me in much less time than that!

At least after she got home from the gym (and showered), she spent the next hour with me. However I was still mad at her from this morning, so I just ignored her. She sat and read, and I played with my toys. To be honest I was glad she was in there, but I would never let her know. Even if she did fix one of my favorite toys and reattach the bell. I do love those bells.

  Hi Cori and Boo Boo
Hello to all my dear BC friends, Zeena here with today's BOTM POST. Today we will take a look in brief at a touchy subject that has people lined up on both sides of the debate. It involves the breeders verses conservationists. I am not sharing this to side with either group, but as a general interest topic. These are exerts from an interview with Tony Silva a world renowned expert on Aviculture.
Interviewer; In light of all the talk about breeders, verses the conservationist groups, how can we make our legislators, the animal rights radicals, and the conservation elitists, understand that what we as private aviculturists do, is valuable and should be encouraged, not strangled with laws and regulations which in the end, will result in extinction, not preservation, of exotic birds?

Tony Silva: "We need an active, strong avicultural industry. Breeders must be allowed to breed for the pet industry, unimpeded by regulations and laws that simply do not work for us or the birds. The birds we raise for the pet industry supports the work we do with endangered species. And we have to do this, because third world countries don't care about what happens to their birds, they simply don't care. We have to look at individual species like the Spix. If it weren't for private aviculture, there would be no Spix Macaws. And the Brazilian government recognizes this! They say, 'Look, we don't care if we ever reintroduce Spix Macaws. We're just happy that authorities say we'll still have the species around, even if it's not in the jungle. '
Interviewer; Has the establishment of the CITES treaty curbed the explotation of wild Parrots

Tony Silva: I never would have thought imports would stop, because to these countries, birds are a renewable resource. In Southern Argentina a number of years ago, they were packaging up Patagonian Conures in cans and selling them to the Japanese as delicacies because nobody wanted to buy them as pets or to breed.

Look at the Tucuman Amazon. It is so rare they are difficult to locate in their habitat or aviculture. Officials in their range gave permits to shoot them because they were raiding the cornfields . Then there's the Scarlet Macaw in Surinam. It is on CITES Appendix I, but it is perfectly legal to bag up to 3 a day. The natives use them for food. Trade in birds' countries of origin will go on because these people have to survive. There is such a lack of education -- and you're going to tell them not to shoot this or that bird, or to protect this tree! And people won't believe this unless they see it. It's like the Hyacinth Macaw study. The researchers have a few lunches with bird trappers and gives their opinions as first-hand knowledge. But it's not accurate. Without captive breeding many species of Parrots the world over will cease to be in the next ten years. We need breeders to guarantee there will be any Parrots left in the end.

Come visit me, Cinn-A-Bun.

  Hi Cori
Haha, what a great skunk story! Mom agrees, where did summer go???
It's cool here today, don't expect the temps to go much above 70. If that's the case, mom will probably scrub the porch railings, since she finally found the Simple Green she was looking for. It's a good cleaner for the outdoor stuff. Of course, if it gets warmer, that plan will die in favor of the pool. It's open for such a limited time, mom likes to take advantage of every day she can go. Labor day is coming too soon! Nothing much else going on; Mom has a tour coming up tomorrow at the museum, and Thursday is the big eye appointment. Gene will be going back to Germany on Saturday, so she'll probably go visit him on Friday. Other than that, the week is a slow one, but we're never bored, and neither is mom. Hope you are having a great day and getting lots of sunshine and scritches. Hugs, Falco

Come visit me, Gizmo, I miss you, sweet boy, Willie, Kaji, TiPaul, and Sky for 10k!, Peppino, In Divo's memory & Falco, Mikey and Chipper for 10k.

It's just terrible. Pops is trying to teach me a new song, and he can't carry a tune, even if he used a wheel barrel.

  Hi Cori
It sounds like we will have rain for the next 4 days. Probably stay in the high 60's ....maybe 70!
Today was a bad asthma day for mom. I took real good care of her. Outside it was dark and cold (60's) ... it looked like November! This is wrong ... summer is suppose to be warm and sunny. Where is my summer?
Hugs
Chyna

Come visit me, Chyna & Bailey ♥ RIP.

  Hi Cori and Boo boo
Sure glad that Boo boo is ok and can only imagine how scared your mom and dad must of been!!
It rained and stormed last night and today some too. It has cooled off a lot and mom said too cool for me to go out today even between the raindrops! Since moms cousin is recuperating from her surgery and is off work her and mom have been chatting back and forth a lot. Moms cousin just lives next door and loves to sew and joined a quilt club and keeps showing mom things she has made. I know mom is wanting to do a quilt project but keeps saying where to find the time with all her other craft projects she has going on. Maybe that will be a winter project and I will help her with it I am sure LOL. “I have learned its not what I have in life but who I have in my life that counts.“ Leaving a vote for you …your friend, Gus (RIP Chi chi)

  Hi Cori
Yes, Mom is glad that Gloria the car is all pretty again. Several of you have asked about her after seeing her in my gallery, so here's her info. She is a 2001 Audi TT Quattro, and she only has 88,500 miles on her which is low for such an old car. Mom was lucky she didn't ever have a long commute, and one year only drove 1.5 miles to work! Anyway Mom bought her back when she was working and making bunches of money; she could never afford such a nice car today. That is why she plans to keep Gloria for a very long time!

I gave my mom a tough time about going outside this morning, but I finally gave in and climbed on her shoulder so she could carry me over to my outside carrier. Once there I had no problem climbing right in; I just didn't want to be interrupted in my meditation I was doing on my big swing. Anyway we got out there at 8:45 and it was a bit cloudy which meant it was not overwhelmingly hot yet. High today in the 90s again, so it's a good thing I didn't mess around too long. By the time Mom got home from the gym at 12:30 it was way too hot. In fact, Mom doesn't plan to leave the house again today. Works for me!!

  Hi Cori and Boo Boo
Hi everybirdie, Zeena here with Monday's BOTM POST. Today we visit a beautiful song bird making a new comeback in homes around the globe. The Pekin Rokin, a song bird of extraordinary talent. I wish to thank all my many friends for their votes and stopping to leave comments on my page. I read them all.
The Red-billed Leiothrix or PEKIN ROBIN (Leiothrix lutea) is usually found in India, Bhutan, Nepal, Burma and parts of Tibet. This species is a bird of the hill forests, found in every type of jungle though it prefers pine forests with bushes. It has also been found at elevations ranging from near sea level to about 7,500 feet.

The species was introduced to the Hawaiian Islands in 1918 and spread to all the forested islands except Lanai. Its population on Oahu crashed in the 1960s and it disappeared from Kauai, but is now common and increasing on Oahu The leiothrix was released in Western Australia but it failed to become established. This species was also introduced in Great Britain but permanent establishment was unsuccessful. It was introduced to France, where it is now established in several areas.
Adults have bright red bills and a dull yellow ring around their eyes. Their backs are dull olive green, and they have a bright yellow-orange throat with a yellow chin; females are somewhat duller than males, and juveniles have black bills. It has also been introduced in various parts of the world, with small populations of escapees having existed in Japan since the 1980s. It has become a common cagebird and amongst aviculturists it goes by various names: Pekin Robin, Pekin Nightingale, Japanese Nightingale, and Japanese (Hill) Robin, the last two being misnomers as it is not native to Japan.
Pekin Robins don't fly frequently, except in open habitats. This bird is very active and an excellent singer but very secretive and difficult to see. It makes a wonderful addition to a mixed aviary with good cover provided. Housing one pair per flight.
The standard fare for Pekin Robins in captivity comprises a mix of dried insect food, fresh fruits and mealworms. they especially like fruitflies and live crickets especially in the breeding season.
Pekin Robins are difficult to find for sale but well worth the expenditure and effort to find them.
with love and scritches Zeena 255116

  Hi Cori
It rained here all last night but it was kind of off and on all night and then we woke up to a dark morning with rain again here and there, and the sun peeking out every now and then also, when the sun came out it was so pleasant but it never just stays out and there's quite a bit of wind here also! You should see all the people in our neighborhood that have dogs and those who don't live here that come and walk their dogs and leave the poop for you to walk in,one lady is a dog walker and she walks six dogs at once and doesn't use a bag and they always leave giant poops by our mailbox and driveway so Mom and dads car and drive in it and bring it into the garage!Once when Mom was hanging laundry in the back yard, she dropped a piece of clothing and it nearly fell in a pile of diarrhea type poop right where Mom was standing! We don't have any dogs here and its so maddening that those who own these dogs don't want to pick up after them! There was a tornado in Revere Beach last night and it looks like the whole place got bombed, how awful,Revere Beach is near the Boston area.
My Mom would love to cut your sweet Momma's hair but I'm not so sure she'd like how it would come out!She was just so surprised that skin sis really liked it so well!
Wishing you a greyt day and I'm sending you all my love along with warm birdie hugs and soft beakie kisses to my sweet Cori,Loving you always and forever,Kallie

Come visit me, Gabbie, Kallie, Peepers & Dixie.
