 I was in a local Feeder's Supply pet store just looking around and saw Lexi. I'd never seen a Caique and thought she was absolutely beautiful. I put my finger in the cage (I realize that's breaking a cardinal rule) and she immediately sat on my finger and didn't want to get off of it. We've loved each other ever since.. |

Hi! My name is Lexiana "Lexi" Carnes
I am a Caique from Charleston, SC.

NutriBerries, Oranges, Apples, Tostidos, Graham Crackers, toothpaste (even though my mommy won't let me have it)
 I love my mommy's shoulder! I like to hide under her hair. My second favorite spot is in front of my food dish with my head buried in NutriBerries and Harrison's Bird Food.
 When my mommy takes me off of her shoulder. I fight it with a vengence.
 I love my mommy. She's always happy to see me in the morning when we wake up and gives me my favorite treats. We have great conversations even though I don't think she understands everything I'm saying. When bedtime comes around, my mommy puts me in my own bedbox for the night. I love it because it's warm from the heating pad underneath it and I can sleep under my blankie. I tell my mommy "night, night" and she kisses me on the head before she puts me in my "bedroom suite". It's pretty cool - she made it out of a big, clear storage tub and my granddaddy put a perch in it for me. She has it sitting on top of a heating pad and has my blankie inside so that I can snuggle underneath it. I sleep so good in there!
 I like to dunk my food in water/juice before I eat it. I wait with my food in claw or with a stuffed beak until Mommy has filled my water bowl - and not patiently I might add! I also like to stand on my mommy's toweled head after she's taken a shower and proceed to maul the towel with impressive force. I like to stand on the curtain rod while Mommy takes a shower. Sometimes I stand on her head while she's in there - I don't think she likes it though. :).

My life has really turned around
Hi everyone! Just wanted to let everyone know that my mommy and I have been living in Charleston now for a little over a year and I am as healthy as ever! There is a wonderful avian certified vet here (the only one in SC) and she had my mommy make me a an incubator to sleep in. My doctor said that I needed at least 12 hours of dark, quiet, uninterrupted sleep every night. Gosh, what a difference it's made in my health. I've even gained about 20 grams! My mommy says that I have thunder thighs, but I think she's just exagerrating. (maybe I should do some cardio just in case though) We love it here and we get to see my grandparents alot. I love visiting my grandparents - they spoil me. (hehe)Come visit me, Lexiana "Lexi" Carnes.

The vet said to keep my warm so mom covers my cage...an incubator sounds nice.I usually puff up my feathers and go on my swing to relax.Mom takes me out on the sofa for about 5 minutes cause I don't have much energy but it keeps me used to human interaction.Your in my birdy prayers too...I gotta go for dinner now.And maybe mom will give me some millet! Wow your mom is going to be a chef your so lucky your gonna have great food every night!

Lexi And Mommy
Oh My . SO sorry to hear that you are sick. Mom knows just how your mom feels, as my frother Murphee has been very sick for 8 weeks now. He is on four different meds, and now he has to get injections also.. It is so hard on mommy. He been having seizures, and lost weight too. Lexi's Illiness
Hi everyone, I just wanted to report that I have found out that Lexi has an enlarged heart. It's what has been causing her to get sick and lose weight. She gets very tired easily. The doctor thinks that he can help her with medication. She almost died when he took x-rays of her and had to be given steroids to start her heart back. I'm very upset and can even think of losing my baby. I'll do what ever I have to to keep her little heart healthy. She's my best friend and like a child to me. Thanks for coming by. I love anything that I can make noise with. The vacuum is the best though. I get excited when I even think it's coming out. I sit on the shoulder of the person operating it and scream my head off and if not invited to take the ride I get very mad. I also love anything else to do with floor maintenance-brooms, swiffer, carpet sweeper, etc. Mom wishes we had a video camera because my reaction is worth a cash prize. It's so funny. Lexi, You are a cutie pie, aren't you. We have read your posts and glad you are well again. What a scare! We thought we'd stop by and introduce ourselves. We are Pickles and Peeps. We are brother and sister but only by family, not blood. We live in NJ. We are food dunkers, too, but not to the extreme as you are. We can't have a clean bowl of water for more then 5 minutes. A note from Lexi's mom
This is an important blog for everyone out there who has a bird(s) that they love: make sure to watch for any signs of abnormal behavior in your bird. Even the slightest difference in their behavior can be a sign of an illness (eating habits, lack of energy, sitting in the bottom of the cage). Without proper treatment, your bird can become seriously ill and even die. Also, if you can find one, take your bird to an Avian Certified Vet. It could mean the difference between life and death for your bird. I was lucky to have one in the Louisville, KY area and Lexi is better now.Come visit me, Lexiana "Lexi" Carnes.

My visit with Dr. Vaughn
Hey everyone! I went to visit Dr. Vaughn today and said that I am cured. That was good to hear since I've been sick for about 2 months. I had gotten Chlymidia which is a very serious bacterial infection that birds can get. My mommy noticed that I was sick and has been worried about me for weeks. I almost died, but Dr. Vaughn was able to save me and I'm happy to report that I'm feeling great! I'm back to playing and whistling and talking to my mommy. I'm home from the hosptial
My mommy brought me home from the hospital yesterday. I was so glad to see her that I flew out of Dr. Vaughn's hands and landed on Mommy's shoulder. I have been very sick and my mommy has been very worried about me, but I am doing much better now. Mommy fed me one of my favorite things when we got home - oranges! Later, we watched some TV together and then I snuggled down into my mommy's hair and went to sleep. It's good to be home!Come visit me, Lexiana "Lexi" Carnes.
