He was given to me by a co-worker who couldn't take care of him anymore. His previous home was causing him a lot of stress due to the children's loud screaming, and his first trip to the vet revealed lean muscle mass due to poor nutrition and lack of exercise. He used to throw himself to the bottom of the cage and scream at his previous owner's home, but that has stopped completely in his new home.. |

Hi! My name is Eli
I am an African Grey from Roanoke, VA.
Mr. Squawky Pants, and Mama's Little Man
6 years old M
African Grey
Peanuts, apples, snap-peas, sweet potato and oatmeal. I love to open a box of raisins and eat the little treats inside as daintily as I can, then chew the box to bits when I'm finished. When I get hungry, I say "Apple" as sad and forlornly as I can, and I'll do anything to get a peanut.
Anyplace I can get rubs and treats.
Trying to get a treat out of one of my foraging toys and it drops to the bottom of the cage.
I'm allowed to come out and play, I get lots of treats and attention, and I get lots of new toys. I've also learned a lot of new whistles and like to play whistling games.
I like to hang upside down from the top of my cage, grab onto one of my toys, and squawk as loud as I can. I also like to open my foraging toys as fast as I can to get the treats out, no matter how challenging. Whenever I am out taking a stroll across the floor and one of the kitties comes up to me to say Hi, I like to put my beak right up to her nose, yell her name, and tell her "No! Back Off!" She always runs away and hides under the couch when I do that. I also like to meow at the kitties and have whole conversations with them..
My favorite thing to say right now is "Happy bird!" because I am very happy now..

Hi from Maxie the WonderBird! Hey Eli! Glad to see you! That's pretty cool that you'll be moving into a new house. And it's nice that the ceilings will be high enough for you to fly around. I wish I could fly, but for some reason I can't. Which is probably a good thing, since I'd be dive-bombing the cats and the Grandmom....heehee....Hope you enjoyed your day! Cya...Come visit me, Maxie the WonderBird! & 10 GRAND HOF CLUB- Welcomes Screech!.

packing my toys for the big move! Hi everybody. I'm so excited that I can't help but share the news. Mom and Dad just bought a new house. Mom says there's a cathedral ceiling and a nice long hallway for me to fly around in. No more bumping into walls in this tiny little apartment. I have to admit, I wasn't too happy when mom started packing because I don't want to have to go without my toys for too long. But mom says we can pack those last and unpack them first, so I won't have to go too long without them. I can't wait to get moved in!Come visit me, Eli.

Hi from Maxie the WonderBird! Hey Eli! Thanks for flying by my page. I just used bird parts in the Avatar to create that cat. My human insisted. She usually puts them in my holiday profile pics as well, but I balked at having one in my Valentine pic, since I really don't love those two cats. They're both older cats, so they pretty much leave me alone. I do call one of them, I say "Smoke--come on, come HERE!". She doesn't come any more, since when she did come I was on top of my cage play area and dropped one of my rubber duckies on her head...lol...Hope you enjoy your day! Hello Eli Grendel here. Thanks for stopping by. I am so happy to meet you! I hear you are a happy bird. I am happy too. Do you love your new mummy and home? I am glad things are working out for you. I like your nickname, too. Mr. Squawky Pants is super cute. You love your head scritchies? I go crazy for a good brain massage. I can put up with them for hours upon hours. It's the best... a great way to start the day and finish the day as well. He he. As for the Beowulf, my mummy loves that poem too. She always says it is not fair for poor Grendel, though. She is a Grendel fan. It's all my doing, really. He he. we met another Grendel and Beowulf grey parrot at a special parrot store. They were brothers, but hopefully they found good homes. Well, Eli, have a great week! Here is a vote for you. PS- we love your photos too. The one with the shoes is hilarious! You also have a great cage setup. Looks like fun. Love GrendelCome visit me, Queen Abby, *~Blueberry~*, Ogre, Grendel, *~Snowball~*, Grithr, Lucky, Homer & Giggle.

Hi Eli Ahh, so you have been tossing food. Isn't that just soooo much fun. I love to grab my bowl and fling it to the floor. It makes a great noise and the pattern of the food spread across the floor is a lovely sight to see. Of course Mom has now worked out how to stop me from doing that. sigh. Sometimes she can be such a spoil sport. MMCome visit me, Caden - dashing 3rd baseman for the Sluggers & Monty Mae - feisty 1st base for the G Wings.

No! I will NOT eat my veggies tonight! Or my pellets either! I'm going to sit here at my food dish and throw a tantrum and toss everything out until Mommy comes over here and gives me a Peanut! I've been screaming Peanut all afternoon, but she's not listening! Dad usually sneaks in a peanut or two for me before he leaves for work, but for some reason he didn't today, and Mom refuses to give me one until I eat all my pellets like a good little birdie. So if I empty my dish, maybe she'll think I ate it all and come give me a peanut. I just hope she doesn't look at the floor first, and that the kitties don't tell on me. I didn't mean to bonk Tippie on the head those 3 or 4 times in a row, honest! Please don't tell on me! Peeaaa-nnnuuuutttt!!!Come visit me, Eli.

I'm Back Sweet Pea here. Thanks for the very nice blog. I came back to visit not only because you are beautiful but I would like mom to tell me the secret to getting your head rubbed in the same place all of the time. Also I wanted to let your mom know that my mom's parents live in Livonia, Mi. and she was born there. Her dad was a lieutenant with the Police Force. We have been down here 24 years and love it. We have had over 2' of snow and are expecting more this weekend. Haven't seen this much snow in 10 years. Mom's relatives are still up North so we miss Michigan a lot. I know that sounds quirky but until the recession hit it was a nice place to live. Well gotta go. Here is another vote. Take care. Birdy hugs, Sweet Pea P.S. Your mom did a great job on your avatar. Best I have seen to date.Come visit me, Sweet Pea.

Hi Eli Thank you for flying by to say hi. It sounds as if you are making good progess. It takes time to adjust to a new home. Did you know that a significant number of us parrots are given up at the age of two? By that time we are moving from babies to teenage and many of the humans are not able to cope with that. We develope behavour problems that they do not understand or can cope with. So I am very glad that you have a new home that will care for you. Fly by again soon. MMCome visit me, Caden - dashing 3rd baseman for the Sluggers & Monty Mae - feisty 1st base for the G Wings.

Woof Woof! Mommy's mom called again tonight. She said she's not sure if she can get used to being called Grandma by a bird, so I started barking like a puppy. Woof Woof, Woof Woof, (pant, pant) Woof Woof. I know she likes doggies, and I can be cute like a doggy too. Except I'm even better than a doggy because they only speak Dog. I speak Dog, Cat, Human, Bird, Monkey, Chicken, and my newest one is Dolphin. I'm sure to learn more if my dad keeps leaving the TV on during the day for me. Just the other day Mom played Snow White for me so I could hear the 7 Dwarves whistling, but my favorite part was singing along with the little birdies. They were just so cute.Come visit me, Eli.

My Sneaky Trick Mommy has been trying her hardest to teach me to step up, since my previous owner never taught me the words to it, and I didn't want to be messed with before I got to know my new family so well. But I'm so smart that I've figured out how to use this to my advantage instead. Whenever Mommy sticks her hand out for me to step up, I grab her fingers with my foot and put my head down for her to give me scritches just where I want them. Hey, why step up when I can get free scritches instead? I just hope she doesn't figure this out anytime soon, or she may think of a different way to get me to step up and the free scritches will stop... She's already outsmarted me on getting me to go back in the cage when I don't want to. I'll do just about anything for that peanut, that she so sneakily sticks in the back of my cage....Come visit me, Eli.

Hide out When the lady from the parrot shop came over to clip my wings last week, I was so upset that I bit her and got away. I knew she'd catch me again because she's so good at that, so I thought hiding from her would be the best way to make her go away. I found a great hiding place in the shoe cubby, and felt pretty safe in there, because I just know that if I can't see you, you can't see me. Which leaves me to wonder how in the world did Mommy get that picture of me while I was hiding out?Come visit me, Eli.
