I bought a raggedy little lovebird, now named Igor from the pet store a November 11, 2009. He was bald in places and the pet store said the other lovebirds had picked on him and that his feathers would grow out. I researched lovebirds before buying and came across PBFD but didn't think this bird had it because all I found were verbal descriptions and not many pictures, and I beleived the pet store. So on his first vet visit the vet says he (or she- I didn't pay for the sexing) probably has this disease. I was very worried and went home and researched. Everything I found was really depressing. But there's no way I could return Igor. The pet store is aweful and normally I never go in, but I was walking passed it that day and on a whim stepped inside. When I saw Igor I had to save him from that horrible place. Now Igor has a happy home no matter how long he lives. He has fresh water and quality food and lots of human company even if he can't have bird company. And I found a terrific vet who is helping me too.. |

All about Igor The little intro above is pretty good, but full of typos! OMG! I am a terrible typist. Anyway Igor has beak and feather disease. There are several articles about it on the internet including Oscar- the ugly cockatoo. But this is my PBDF bird's blog. He (not conclusively a he) is a cantankerous woderful little bird who has been getting healthier since he came home in November. With proper care and a good vet he seems to be doing really well. Last month he had chewed a sore in his foot, the skin on his left foot thickened and he chewed and chewed on it until we had to take him to the vet. The vet I normally take him to was out of town and they said if I was really anxious I could take him into Fresno so that's what I did. And the vet there has been absolutely amazing. I also managed to get him onto Harrison's. He was used to cheap seed at the pet store but now he is up to 55 grams! His feathers are even growing out a bit. He can fly but he doesn't have all the wing feathers he should. I post regularly on his progress in the Bird channel forum if anyone wants to follow him. Thanks!Come visit me, Igor.
