I was contacted by a bird rescue. They told me about this little bird that was neglected and was in need of a home.
Oscar was purchased years ago, and the owner was told she was a male. She became a mans bird. she talked danced and sang. she was a beautiful creature. 2 years ago when the man died, oscar laid an egg. now oscar is a she with gender confusion. she only responds to "good boy"...lol after the man died, oscar was put into a small keet cage, and placed in a back room. she wasnt well cared for. she plucked out all feathers on her breast and under her wings. Now she has a nice little parrot cage, fresh food daily, clean cage and weekly baths. She still wont talk much and is still learning that my hand gives love and treats, and its not a chew toy (ouch). maybe her feathers will grow back, and more important, maybe she will learn that she's a "good boy" and that she is very loved.

  Hi Oscar
I too, do not like my feathers. My picture is not current. I only have my head, wing, and tail feathers, the rest is SKIN. Mom has given up on making me grow in feathers and stopped putting the awful collar on me. Really--a hand with treats is NOT a chew toy. hope you learn that soon.

  Hi Oscar
Welcome to BC. Here is a V4U. You sounds like a very special bird and have a special story. We hope you have found a good home. Hang in there. Quakers are very special creatures. My Mom is completely captivated by them and she says "Quakers Rule!". When you give them love, they return it tenfold. They are also as intelligent as the larger birds. Your new friends, Jewels and Boo Boo

Your story is much like mine
I too have a Quaker Rescue, named Rocko, that plucked neck, shoulders, and under wings when her little boy friends grew up and moved away from their home. I believe she became more and more neglected. I say she, because she too laid an egg, and we now call her Roxy. She has been here almost a year and trust is still an issue. She has a lot of wild in her, loves one minutes and displays aggression the next. She plucked for so lung that her feathers will never grow back. I hope you and Oscar have many wonderful years together.
