  Hi Sam
That's good your mom has calmed down and no suitcases are being packed. So now what with your G-ma? She checks herself out of the hospital and goes home. Then they cancel her tests! What did her doctor say about that? I can't believe they did that!!!!
That pumpkin butterscotch cake sounds good. I bet your mom made it for Thanksgiving dinner. You will get some then. That is very interesting of mom giving you those weapons of destruction! Oh yes, hide them. They might come in handy some day.
I'm up for a pedi soon ... just when I got my awesome hawk claws looking good. Mom said something about getting stabbed!
Looks like Thursday will be snow with a high of 25 and a low of 14. That's ok cause I get to enjoy a special dinner with my parronts!
Wishing all of you a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Hugs

  Hi Sammy
That sure is a good update, in that Nanny and Aunt Kaylene seem to be doing okay. Is big brother still there? We are hoping mom doesn't have to go there over the holidays. It's bad news for geriatric care in the state, or at least in that particular hospital! The least they could have done was inform Nanny that if she left there would be no tests!
Daisy surprised mom with how well she did in class last night. She picked up things easily and practiced with mom and never tired out. The clicker training works!
BC is running so slow!
We all want to wish you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving in case we don't get online tomorrow. Mom is cooking and the bird is big, so we have to get up early to supervise.
It was supposed to flurry today, but it's been snowing since 9AM. There's no sign of a let up either. We are hoping everyone who is traveling this holiday gets to a destination safely.
Mom got her nails done this morning, and got her new driver's license. She kept looking outside while she was at the nail salon, hoping that the snow would stop, but no such luck.
Now that she's home, once she's done serving as our typist, she will bake pies, get the cranberry sauce ready, and do other little things so tomorrow goes smoothly. We are only having 10 people here, but it's still a chore to make sure all goes well. I hope you are having a good day, getting to taste test, or at least supervise, all the cooking that's going on. Make sure to get lots of scritches and cuddles today, too. Hugs, Willie

  Hello Sam~
I hope you had a wonderful day! We did some laundry today. The turkey will be cooked in the morning finally! Mom did not take into account that it was going to be cooked 3 days early so it needed 3 more days to defrost! They had the ham last night and it was very good. I got my corn bread so I am very happy!
The BC has been moving very slowly when I am moving from page to page. It seems to need to think for a minute before it goes to the next page!! We logged off for a while and are trying it again. So far it's been better.
I hope your grandma is doing much better and that your aunt is getting some rest! We are keeping them in our prayers and we hope everything will be great!
Mom starts an 8 day stretch at work tomorrow night so I will wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving in case I don't get much time online tomorrow! I am thankful to have you for my friend! My life is so much richer having you in it!

  Hi Sammy
Mom had fun at the wildlife center yesterday, she did the RVS animals again, which means she fed the bats. She loves doing that, they think they are so fierce, baring their teeth at her! She also did the raccoons outside, as well as the raccoon and ground hog inside.
Today we are going to make cornbread for the stuffing. I hope we all get a sample. If mom has the ambition, she will bake the pies, but she would prefer to wait until tomorrow so they will be fresher. Mom's daughter ordered a fresh local turkey which she will pick up after work and drop here on her way home.
Mom does have an errand today: she needs a 6 foot lead for Daisy's class tonight. She got the mat, the treats are ready, the clicker is in her pocket, but she doesn't have a small 6' leash. The one she has is really thick, too big for that little dog. I only hope she is able to teach that dog some manners! Mom has done her homework all week, so maybe there's a chance this dog will be better by the end of class.
I hope you are all having a good day. Don't forget to come by the Lakers page today to celebrate Thanksgiving with our team! Hugs, Willie

  Hi Sammy
HOpe Nanny and Aunt Kaylene are improving. Today is the stress test, let us know what happened, okay?
We are able to get on BC, YAY! I hope everybirdie else is able to log on today as well.
Mom did the turkey today, she still is showing signs of improvement, and boy, she sure has a good appetite. She also did the RVS animals again. It was okay, though, she had a 2 week break from them. The raccoons outside are getting a little too friendly for mom's taste, so she made lots of noise and banged a lot today to keep them at a distance. The ground hog inside is still wobbly on his feet, but seems to be healing. They are treating those little feet with antibiotics. The raccoon in the RVS room is still aggressive, hard to handle, but everyone there understands the animals, especially inside, are nervous. The bats continue to gorge themselves on mealies! Mom was happy to feed them again today, she really likes them.
After the center, mom did some Thanksgiving shopping, so we think we're ready. Her daughter is buying a fresh local turkey, so it won't need to be defrosted. She will pick it up either tonight or tomorrow night. Mom is hoping it isn't too big for her to lift! Last year, it was a pretty big fellow.
I hope you are having a great day, getting lots of love and scritches. Hugs, Willie

`Ü´ Greetings & A Lovely Monday to You
Mr SamIAm!

I do hope that your Saturday and Sunday were full of fun and productivity. I know in my case I had to relinquish Momma’s eggsclusive attention and assistance on my Campaign to be your December Bird of the Month to more pressing parrontal matters around our K Kritter Korral. (The portion of Sunday during which Momma was available to bring me to your page for a visit, the BirdChannel was not cooperating. You might say that their GPS was out of order! **TeeHee**)

You see, Momma and Daddy were informed that they could eggspect a visit from my Grandma from Idaho from later today, to last thru Thursday morning when they all gather at Daddy’s youngest brother’s home about an hour away from us for the first Family Celebration with everyone present since Momma and Daddy have known each other. Grandma was eager to be able to spend time here with Momma and Daddy, and all of us fids of course, before joining the rest of the family for a concurrent Celebration of Thanksgiving and her BirthDay on Thursday! Then she will remain with my Uncle and his family until she returns to her home in Idaho later in the week, while my other Uncle comes to pay us a visit over the long weekend.

So, all of this is to say that my visits may be a bit sporadic from now thru the end of the month, due to Grandma’s visit, the Holiday weekend with my Uncle visiting, and the upcoming Milonga Thanksgiving Bowl Game. I do apologize in advance for any visits I shall have to forego. But rest assured that I shall continue to do my utmost to bring you the maximum amount of FootBall information in the time we have left together.

And on that note, let us get straight to the information I’ve promised you next about the Offensive Squad on a FootBall team …

Let’s begin our eggsamination of the individual Positions on the Offensive Squad.

QuarterBack – The Player who usually receives the ball from the Center at the start of each play. He informs his TeamMates in the huddle of the play that will be run and then, after the Center snaps* the ball to him, either hands the ball to a Running Back or throws to a Receiver.

Center – The Player who hikes (or snaps) the ball to the QuarterBack at the start of each play. The term comes from the fact that this Player is flanked on either side by a Guard and a Tackle; he’s the “MiddleMan” (or Center) in a contingent of five Offensive LineMen or Blockers. He handles the ball on every play and also snaps the ball to the Punter and Holder.

Guard – There are two Guards on every play, and they line up on either side of the Offensive Center. The Guards protect the QuarterBack from an Inside Rusher; they block Defenders immediately across from them and also swing out, or pull**, and run toward either end [of the line] to block any Defender when the ball carrier runs wide°.

Come visit me, `Ü´ Ruby Coaches the Offense.

11/24/2014 10:44.17 AM Report This Comment
Tackle – Both Offensive and Defensive, on Offense they are Outside Blockers on the line of scrimmage°°.

Tight End – Serves as a BIG Receiver [Oh MY!] and also a Blocker. Unlike a Wide Receiver, this Player generally lines up beside the Offensive Tackle either to the right or to the left of the QuarterBack. (Also “Strong Side+”)

Wide Receiver – The Player who uses his speed and quickness to elude Defenders and catch the FootBall, but who isn’t primarily a Blocker. Wide Receivers are also known as “pass catchers” [but I-I-I would parrotsonally NOT disparage one so!]. Also called a WideOut.

Running Back – A Player who runs with the FootBall. Running Backs are also referred to as TailBacks and HalfBacks, depending on their exact responsibilities and alignment.

FullBack – A Player who lines up in the Offensive backfield++ and generally is responsible for blocking for the Running Back and pass-blocking to protect the QuarterBack. FullBacks also serve as short-yardage runners.

I would also like to call your attention to a display of several of the basic Offensive Formations which appear in the Gallery at the bottom of my page. (They also appear in my Profile Picture at the top of my page; but they are much clearer and contain eggsplanatory text in the photos in the Gallery.) I hope these are of use to you in recognizing some of what happens on the actual field of play the next time you watch a FootBall Game.

I am also including several definitions of terms used in the above Position Descriptions at the end of this note.

Have a Greyt Day! Perhaps enjoy watching The Jets play The Bills at 7:00 pm on CBS, or The Ravens play at The Saints at 8:30 pm on ESPN. Both times are EST. Remember, it is virtually illegal to watch a FootBall Game quietly. So do what we Avians are most well-known for doing … **S*Q*U*A*W*K** . **I*T** . **U*P** ! ! !

À la prochen frois, mon ami,
[Until next time, My Featheriend]
`Ü´ Ruby Francesca Beongia ♥

*snap—the action in which the ball in handed or hiked by the Center to the QuarterBack, to the Holder on a kick attempt, or to the Punter.
**pull—when a player leaves one area of the field, generally moving back and then over, to block in an area other than his normal position.
°run wide
°°line of scrimmage—the imaginary boundary between the two teams prior to the snap of the ball. The Offense’s and Defense’s scrimmage lines are defined by the tip of the ball closest to them and stretch from sideline to sideline. The Defensive Team usually lines up less than a yard away from where the ball is placed.
+strong side—the side of the Offensive formation where the Tight End aligns. With a right-handed QuarterBack, the strong side is usually to his right side.
++backfield—the group of Offensive Players (the Running Backs and QuarterBack) who line up behind the line of scrimmage (vs the Offensive LineMen and/or Receivers who line up at the line of scrimmage).

  Hi Sammy
We are praying here, and I know you have everyone on BC and on FB praying for Nanny and Aunt Kaylene. We hope everything is okay with both of them, but especially Nanny, who is in the hospital. Hopefully mom's brother is there by now and helping out with everything.
Sorry we weren't able to blog yesterday. Mom was at the Galleria, a shopping area about 20 miles (through city traffic) away. The event started at 12 and ran to 4, but the folks from the wildlife center wanted all the volunteers there at 11 to help set things up, and of course, they stayed at the end to put it all back in the vans. Mom and her partner had Quincy and Dan Quail; Jake the snake was at another table, and Ray the crow was in still another location on the second level. On the third level there were programs every hour featuring Murphy the skunk and Martha the Great Horned Owl. There were also refreshments and kid crafts, as well as face painting on that level. It was a fairly large event to organize and pull off so far from the center, but a local auto company outfitted a van and donated it for a year. It has cages in it, and is comfortable for a lot of animals, and has cats, dogs, and wild animals painted on the sides so we can now transport critters to events and hopefully make more cash.
Anyway, mom was pretty tired when she got home so she spent the evening cuddling with us and crocheting things for Christmas.
Today mom has 2 public tours in Dinosaur hall, but she'll be home making out the shopping list for Thanksgiving and being with us afterwards. We were going to try a Hubbard squash pie this year, but mom left the squash on the back deck, and it froze, so it's not good for anything except squirrels and deer now. Mom tossed it and the pumpkins over the hill for the animals this morning.
Our weather, after freezing rain yesterday morning (during the drive, of course), has turned warmer. It was in the high 40s when we got up today, and it's supposed to carry through until tomorrow, and be nice once again. It's probably our last hurrah, though. We can expect wintery conditions to get here again on Wednesday. Oh, and the furnace is finally up and running reliably after the guy replaced some pressure switches on Friday. I hope you are having a great day and getting lots of attention and love. Hugs, Willie

  Hi Sam
I'm so very sorry to hear about your Nanny. Why are G-mas like that? My dad's mom is the same way ... won't go in to be checked out until it's almost too late. She was an RN after all and should know better! Mom & I are keeping your mom, you and your Nanny in our thoughts and prayers. I sure hope all is well soon.
That is so sad that skinbro will not answer about Thanksgiving. He will regret this one day. I sure hope that you can have your dinner on Thursday. Please keep us posted.
Oh yes, people do have a Rainbow Bridge. I think it's connected to ours too. My mom doesn't have any family left (only a couple of cousins by marriage that live out of state). Dad's family don't care if they get together or not. They have decided that not to have family Christmas this year. But, will get together in the middle of January. It's not the same to my mom. My mom's family were very close so, it's hard for her.
We enjoyed 38 degrees and lots of melting snow today. It was nice to have rain and fog for a change. Maybe it will get as high as 41 with rain on Sunday! I think I can take one blanket off the perch tonight!

  Hello Sam~
I hope all is well with you and mom! We are so very sorry to hear that your grandma is ill. We are surely saying some extra prayers just for her and for your Aunt Kaylene too. It's so very hard when the parents get older and you have to deal with all the medical issues. Mom took care of dad's mom for years and it was very hard. There were times when she wanted to run away!
I think it is very rude of the skin brother not to answer your mom's invitation. If they can not make it then they should just say so. One Thanksgiving during the time mom was taking care of dad's mom, mom made a huge dinner for the whole family. Dad's brother and his family were 4 hours late! Mom was really upset because she had worked so hard and it meant nothing to them. All they had to do was call and say they were going to be late but they didn't!
Mom's favorite Thanksgiving memories are of her mother and the fabulous meal she always made. She's been gone for 13 years now and mom still misses her especially on holidays. Mom has the awesome memories though!
Your mom is such a kind and loving person and we think everyone should remember that! We know it's true and so should her whole family!! I think that sometimes people get caught up in their own lives and really need to step back and think about others rather then themselves.
We love you guys and you really are in our prayers! I have a note posted on the Calendar page and I know those prayers are going to help!
You enjoy the day! Leaving a vote and a big hug!
Love you ~ Sugar ♥

`Ü´ Greetings & OH! MY!! GOODness!!!
Mr SamIAm!

Does anybirdy ELSE realize how much there is to KNOW about FootBall??? Why … I had no idea how much I DIDN’T KNOW until Momma consented to help me learn for the sake of my Quest for the Bird of the Month Crown, and sharing her passion for The Game so that I might understand all of the HoopLa that I hear coming from the area of the television every time she watches a Game!!

HEAVENS to BETSY … and BACK!!!

Well! As promised, we shall begin our investigation into the individual responsibilities of the Players in each Position today. But I fear it will never fit into one day’s note. So we shall simply spread it out over several days so that you, My Featheriend, can take it all in and not fall asleep before you learn what you need to know!

You may recall from our earlier information that the NFL limits active, uniformed Players to 45 per Team on Game Day.

Each FootBall Team has 11 Players per side: 11 on Offense and 11 on Defense. Teams are allowed to play with fewer than 11 Players (and for the LIFE of me I can’t IMAGINE WHY they would WANT to???), but they are penalized for having more than 11 Players on the Field during play. Rarely, a few eggsceptionally talented Players may play both Offense and Defense in the NFL. (And I do believe that we have a few of those eggsceptionally talented Birdie FootBall Players on the Indians and Pilgrims Team Rosters!)

A typical NFL Game Day roster includes three QuarterBacks, a Punter, a PlaceKicker, a Kick Return Specialist, eight Offensive LineMen, four Running Backs, five Receivers, two Tight Ends, seven Defensive LineMen, seven LineBackers, and six Defensive Backs. (The NONSTARTING Players – that is, those who are not among the 22 or so Players who are listed in the Starting LineUp – are considered Reserves, and many of them are Specialists.)

In the NFL, an additional Player can be in uniform, but he must be a QuarterBack and enter the Game only after the other QuarterBacks have been removed from the Game because of injury. When this eggstra QuarterBack, or 46th Player, enters the Game, the other QuarterBacks are deemed ineligible and cannot return to that Game even if they are healthy.

With our very own 3rd Annual Milonga Thanksgiving Bowl Game approaching in a little over a week, and Players needing and wanting to know how to practice to yield the most effective results, when we next meet I shall delve into the individual Positions on the Offensive Squad.

Before I depart this evening, though, I do wish to thank you, once again, for your wonderful continuing support of my efforts to be your Christmas Queen on BirdChannel. I am truly beginning to feel the eggscitement of the prospect of having my dream realized. You and your featheriendship are appreciated more than you know.

A bientot, mon ami,

  Hi Sammy
Well, we are hoping for an end to the seemingly eternal furnace saga today. Yesterday the nice young man stayed and checked absolutely everything out. It was all running nicely when he left, but 2 hours later, the temps were falling and the furnace was not responding. Mom's sister brought over some batteries she had just bought, in case the ones mom put in as replacements were somehow too old. They didn't help! So, mom called the company back. The nice young man called her and asked if she wanted him to come back last night, but she said it was under control, and she'd see him today. Well, it was 57 again this morning when mom got up! She turned off and restarted the furnace like he had showed her yesterday, and it worked to warm the house.
Mom went ahead and ran a couple of errands before going to the center for her shift, so she would be home by noon. She called the company when she got home just to let them know, and the secretary didn't have her on the schedule for today! You can imagine mom's dismay. They finally got it straightened out, and the same guy will come today to install the new switches. We all sincerely hope this is the end of the story, because it's getting old. Plus, mom worries about how these temperature changes are affecting us birds. Mom is listening for changes in our breathing and is really alert to our posture. So far, we all seem to be okay.
This morning at the center, mom cleaned the main aviary, the little screech owl in the habitat building, and the raptor aviaries. There is a turkey in one of them, heehee. We know, turkeys are not raptors. It is keeping him close to the building, though, so he can't get as cold as he would if he were in a free standing outdoor pen.
The pigeon is still gaining weight, and the little waxwings have their light, so mom was happy to see that. LT. Dan, the wood turtle, is still trying to escape, but not bruising his little armpits, because the pillowcase solution seems to be working.
We may be late or not get online at all tomorrow because mom is working an event from 11 to 4, so if you don't hear from us, we're okay. She was going to have Jake the snake with her, but they have her assigned to Quincy and Dan Quail instead. They put others with the snake, turtles, Irwin, etc.
I hope you are having a warmer time than we are, and getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Willie

Come visit me, Gizmo, I miss you, sweet boy, Willie, Happy Thanksgiving, Peppino, Happy Thanksgiving, Divo & Falco, Happy Thanksgiving.

  `Ü´ Greetings & Good Evening
Mr SamIAm!

I am flitting by this evening for a very short visit to share with you a little bit of the great fun I had this Tuesday past presenting a program with Momma for The Sylvan Seniors at Mt Sylvan United Methodist Church in Durham, where Momma and Daddy attend. (They do not attend the s-e-n-i-o-r-s functions. **TeeHee** They attend CHURCH there.)

Momma and I were given half an hour to address the group, to share what Life with a Parrot is like, for most of them had never had an eggsperience with a companion parrot; particularly not one of my size! When we have a program like that, Momma usually starts out by eggsplaining how she and Daddy came to start a flock like the K Kritter Korral, and how it grew; and then, through sheer human curiosity, we have a wonderful conversation about what all is entailed in living with a parrot (or parrotS). Of course, I-I-I contribute greatly to program content; this time including a stroll back and forth in front of the front row at one point, for emphasis of the subject matter at hand. (At just the right point in time I climbed down off my play stand and let Momma know I had something to add. **GRiN**)

When our time for the presentation was over, the group had some lunch together. I was given my fill of some lovely white grapes by a number of brave ladies and gentlemen, and then several of them wanted to have their picture taken with me. In my Gallery at the bottom of my page you can see just a couple of the lovely folks I visited with parrotsonally.

I shall return with those promised eggsplanations of the positions of the players on a FootBall team when next I visit.

Toutes alors, mon ami,

  Hi Sammy
Mom waited and waited for the guy to fix the furnace last night. He finally came around 6:15. Of course, when he got here, the furnace kicked on! He looked and decided there was nothing wrong, except that when mom changed the batteries she forgot to put the override hold button on. He pushed the button, charged mom, and left. This morning when mom got up, it was 59 degrees in here again. She called them back before going to work. She told the girl who assigns people what happened, and that she was going to work and wouldn't be home until 1 or so. The girl promised we'd get an earlier visit today. Mom jiggled the thermostat this morning and had it working for awhile, but when she got home from work, it was only 60 in here again! The guy got here by 1:30 and he just left a few minutes ago.
When he went down and took the door off the furnace, it kicked on! He checked all the switches, the intake and outgo vents, and everything else he could think of. He thinks there might have been dust or something causing the pressure switches to shut off. He air sprayed to clean, and told mom if it happens again, he has the info he needs to get replacement switches. Right now it's warming up, hopefully it will stay that way.
Meanwhile, mom did her tour in animals this morning with second grade, and enjoyed it. She went to visit her nephew who had a second surgery following his auto accident (Last February), and he's doing great!
I hope you are toasty warm, and getting lots of love today. Hugs, Willie

  Hi Sammy
We are sitting here waiting for the furnace guys to show up. Yesterday when mom was doing our blogs, she started feeling cold. When she went downstairs, she saw that it was only 57 in the house. She called the furnace guys, then she changed the batteries in the thermostat. The furnace kicked on, so she called them back and cancelled the appointment. BIG MISTAKE! She woke up around 5 this morning feeling chilly, waited to hear the furnace kick on, and when it didn't, she went downstairs and saw it was only 52 in here! She fiddled with the batteries again, and called the furnace guys to set up another appointment today.
She had to work at the museum today, so she ended up asking the cleaning woman to stay and wait in case they came before she got back. Well, she got back at 1 and they still hadn't shown up yet, but Debbie, the cleaning woman, said she had taken down the thermostat 4 times and pushed the batteries around to get the furnace to start again. So now we are waiting.
Mom's tours this morning were a real challenge. She had 2 special needs groups of children. The first group had all nonverbal kids, and all of them were holding hands with one of the chaperones. Some of them couldn't walk very well, either, so they went slowly and took elevators to all the floors. The second group was much larger, bigger group and bigger kids. Many of them were nonverbal as well, and most of them were on a cognitive level somewhere below kindergarten. Mom got through the two tours well, but they were exhausting. All she said to her boss was Thank God and God bless the people who work with these children full time! Mom dealt with some special needs kids when she taught, but not so many at a time. These people need our thanks, for sure! They probably need a lot more money than they are making as well, but they do it for the same reason all teachers do, for the love of the children.
I hope it's warmer there than here, it hasn't gotten too warm today, but tomorrow and Friday it should rise into the high 30s and maybe into the 40s. We do have sun today, so it doesn't feel as cold somehow!
Mom has homework all week before Daisy even goes to class next week! We'll talk more about it later. I hope you are getting lots of attention today, and savoring every hug. Hugs, Willie

They've decided to do a comedy this year that takes place in the wild west - rootin' tootin' fun !

All our talks about the Muppets has mom wanting to pull out MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL - another of her favorites as far as music goes ! Daddy has been taking some of our LP's and putting them on cd's for mom so she can listen to them in the car. Years ago he put all the vhs tape stuff on dvd - machines and wires galore here !

Have a warm and wonderful day ! love Cookie

  Hi Sam
Jamaica me warm .... thanks.
You need to post a big sign that shows when you should have Sam/mom time!!!
That ER chicken soup sounds wonderful to me and mom. But, two dinners are a pain in the tail feathers! Funny, my mom says I have to be in lock up during stove time too. I flew in their one time and almost landed on the stove. That was it for me! This carrot is yummy, thanks. Chyna chews on it and listens to all that Sam has to say. I also love peanut butter.
Oh yes, it's blizzard time up here. The 6pm news said today that we have 18 inches of that stuff on the ground :(
We made it thru the worst and didn't lose power. Looks like two more days of heavy snow. It was so windy last night that it howled all night long. Today was full of whiteouts and strong winds again. The roads are very icy. I watched my dad plow snow most of the day. Then he was using the roof rake, I didn't like that part when the snow came down and made a big thud! Boy, is it ever COLD up here! I have my footie pj's on and a big fluffy robe. Mom & I have been hitting the hot chocolate. Come over if you want to go sledding or use the snow shoes.
Hugs
Chyna

  Hi ya Sam~
Sugar grabs another carrot stick and perches next to Sam!

These are good carrots!
I'm sorry about the whole cooking thing. Your mom should be able to have her own time and I think that Chunky soup would have been just fine. I know it will be no where as good as your mom's soup but it would have worked out okay.

I don't get to go in the kitchen when mom is cooking either. She explained about all the hot stuff and keeping me out of things I'm not suppose to eat. I think I could be a great help out there! I do like to be the taste tester! It's a very important job and I am very good at it!

Hang in there my friend and I hope the rest of the day is good and that your mom gets to do what she wants to do!!

I love you guys ~ Sugar ♥

  Hi Sammy
Isn't it nice how he gets to make decisions about how mom spends her time? My mom would have said NO, but that's her. She has always been too mouthy, I think.
At least you got some treats, and peanut butter in celery is sure a good treat!
Mom had a docent meeting this morning, and they reviewed a new exhibit that opened on the 8th. It's a guy named Knight who did a lot of animal art, and illustrated his dinos and mosasaurs and such by actually looking at the skeletal structures and using science to help him, instead of fantasizing about what the animals looked like. We look at some today, though, and it's easy to see how dated they are. The new knowledge about dinos, for instance, shows them in completely different positions in life. Still, for his time, he was a terrific artist. Mom found out at the meeting that he was legally blind almost all his life, too, which makes the artwork all the more remarkable.
She is reading the Scientific American magazine that came out in August about dinosaurs right now, too, so she's pretty much immersed in the Mesozoic!
Tonight, though, mom will go to the Humane Society for her first class in adult dog obedience for Daisy. We all think it's time for Daisy to go to school, since mom has not been a good trainer at home, at least as far as her fixating on us is concerned.
It snowed overnight, and is about 20 degrees out right now, with the wind chill making it feel around 0, so mom is indoors for the rest of the day, at least until tonight. I hope you are having a better day, at least warmer. Get lots of cuddles, and maybe some warm cider if you are cold. Hugs, Willie

  SEASON AND PLAYOFF DEVELOPMENT
From 1920 to 1934, the NFL did not have a set number of games for teams to play, instead setting a minimum. The league mandated a 12-game regular season for each team beginning in 1935, later shortening this to 11 games in 1937 and 10 games in 1943, mainly due to World War II. After the war ended, the number of games returned to 11 games in1946 and to 12 in 1947. The NFL went to a 14-game schedule in 1961, which it retained until switching to the current 16-game schedule in 1978. Proposals to increase the regular season to 18 games have been made, but have been rejected in labor negotiations with the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA).

The NFL operated in a two-conference system from 1933 to 1966, where the champions of each conference would meet in the NFL Championship Game. If two teams tied for the conference lead, they would meet in a one-game playoff to determine the conference champion. In 1967, the NFL expanded from 15 teams to 16 teams. Instead of just evening out the conferences by adding the expansion New Orleans Saints to the seven-member Western Conference, the NFL realigned the conferences and split each into two four-team divisions. The four conference champions would meet in the NFL playoffs, a two-round playoff. The NFL also operated the Playoff Bowl (officially the Bert Bell Benefit Bowl) from 1960 to 1969. Effectively a third-place game, pitting the two conference runners-up against each other, the league considers Playoff Bowls to have been exhibitions rather than playoff games. The league discontinued the Playoff Bowl in 1970 due to its perception as a game for losers.

Following the addition of the former AFL teams into the NFL in 1970, the NFL split into two conferences with three divisions each. The expanded league, now with twenty-six teams, would also feature an expanded eight-team eight-game playoff, the participants being the three division champions from each conference as well as one 'wild card' team (the team with the best win percentage) from each conference. In 1978, the league added a second wild card team from each conference, bringing the total number of playoff teams to ten, and a further two wild card teams were added in 1990 to bring the total to twelve. When the NFL expanded to 32 teams in 2002, the league realigned, changing the division structure from three divisions in each conference to four divisions in each conference. As each division champion gets a playoff bid, the number of wild card teams from each conference dropped from three to two.

Next time, I shall be pleased to present The Players who will be participating in the upcoming 3rd Annual Milonga Thanksgiving Bowl Game, as well as the CheerLeading Squads! Be sure to tune in to find out which birdies will be playing in which positions and on which squad. In the coming days we shall investigate the distinctions between the positions!

  Hi Sammy
It sure was nice to talk to your mom yesterday! Mom always enjoys their conversations. Hope she can make up her mind about the lps. Mom's solution was to pack them all up without looking at them, and sending them off to Goodwill. Of course she gave away the turntable and the gigantic speakers too.
Today at the center, mom was training a person in the aviaries. The small flight one was empty and had been painted. There was nothing to do in there. The main aviary had been painted on the inside, so they went outdoors to change out food, water, and towels for the hide boxes. Whoever was out there yesterday left all the food and water out in the open, so the food dishes were soaked, and the birds, of course, won't eat wet seed. Their water was yellow, because of the rain coming through all the leaves on top of the aviary, so they didn't drink. They were sure glad to see fresh dry food and clean water coming their way.
Then mom and the trainee went into the avian nursery. There were only 3 cages in there to clean, so they got that done fairly quickly. The little cedar waxwings were in the dark because of the location of their cage. Mom talked to staff, and they came in to help move the cage to a window location, but it's a dismal day, so mom suggested they put up a light. Jess found a small socket which took a 40 watt bulb, so mom came home and got one, but it didn't fit! She ended up going to the hardware store after her shift, carrying the shade and socket, and found a light there that fit. So, after her third trip to the center, they finally have a light that works, so those little guys won't be in the dark.
The trainee was supposed to get trained in the rat room, too, but it was mom's time to leave, so the next volunteer supervisor got to take her in there to train.
Mom checked on the wood turtle, that solution is still working. She also checked up on the pigeon, who is up to 331 grams today! That's a gain of 12 grams in 3 days, YAY! That's all the news, except that the red tailed hawk got moved into the raptor mews today, which is good news. It means he/she is on the road to recovery.
I hope you are having a good day and getting lots of cuddles. Hugs, Willie

We think it is a very endearing characteristic, not all humans have and it allows a very deep love and respect of life and past life! Have a great day my dear Grey buddy, see ya tomorrow...

Love from Ms LaLo, & my flock
