  Hi Sam
WOWIE!!! Looking good!!! What an adorable couple you two are.
Thanks for helping with hats. I also left a message for the girls, Cydney & Princess. I hope they contact you tomorrow. As for BB ... Kaji told me that she had a hat and the pic is up. Hmmm. Well, one less and only 2 to go and they have their hats.
It was another nice day for us. But, Sunday will be 53 and partly cloudy. By Wednesday, it will be in the 30's. Was that our spring/summer? I hope not!
I didn't get any beach weather yet!!!!
Hugs

  Hi Sam I Am
mom would love to see the fiddle spider web. we have seen those cone shaped webs and if you watch them you will see that they predict weather patterns. the deeper and thicker the cones means lots of storms. to mom they look like the spider is drawing a picture of a black hole. Maybe the spiders are time travelers.
CONCLUSION ON SPIDERS
Cellar spiders which have super long legs like daddy long legs (which are not spiders) love to eat ants. if you have those tiny tiny little ants running around in your house cellar spiders will eat all of them.
3. Antarctica is the only continent in the world where you will absolutely not find a spider. There are creatures who live there like whales and penguins, but people and spiders stay away from the Antarctica lifestyle. because arthropods like to keep their butts warm, just like humans do.
4. Spiders possess shyness as a personality trait just like people .Spiders, even large ones like tarantulas, are docile in nature. Most spiders are inherently shy critters. They get squished more often than they actually bite humans. Spiders will defend themselves in rare cases, but these buggies mostly get scared and hide in the presence of danger.Because of their shyness they ALMOST NEVER seek out humans to bite. When spiders and humans come in contact, it is usually when they are looking for warmth or just happen to be seeking out food and we bump into each other.
5. Although we have all the eyes that we need, both spiders and humans rely on our other senses. You would think having eight eyes would be all the eyes that you need to see perfectly, but for most spiders that is not the case. Nearly all spiders have eight simple eyes, but having six more peepers than us, doesn’t make their vision any more superior since most arachnids have poor eyesight. On average, over six out of 10 people need to wear glasses or contact lenses, making our visual impairments almost identical to that of spiders. Instead, both spiders and people depend on our other senses, like sound, taste and touch, to help us survive. Nobody’s perfect; not people with two eyes nor arthropods with a whopping eight.

it is a pain to remove all those webs, mainly because they gather so much dust but consider letting spiders be or releasing them back outside the next time you see arachnid amigos in your home. plus i find them quite tasty

...please thank your most sweetest mamma for doing such a wonderful portrait and gorgeous avatar! Cu just loves her hat and can hardly wait to show her beau TiPaul! Things had been crazy around here between the flock, mom, dad and work, so please forgive our lack of blogging. I am into taking a stroll on the floor in the morning while mom is doing our food and water...taking an occasional nip on mom's croc and then goig over to CuBird's to tease her that she is locked up and I am allowed out to cruise. Mom says it's all fun and games until somebirdy loses a beak so she take me back to my condo where I give her a few clicks in Bushman. You gentle loks eggstremely handsome there and we are all looking forward to the Derby with greyt anticipation. Big winghugs and beakie kisses my sweet, Miranda

  Hi Sam I Am
love the picture. looks like some high rollers trying to influence the jockey
the more spiders we have around the less chance for the need of any poisonous insecticides.for the next 2 days i would like to talk about SPIDERS. my mom and Cori are very afraid of them but would never hurt one .Spiders are one of our most misunderstood creatures. There are movies about them taking over your house, they are depicted in autumn decorations designed to scare people, but spiders are just like us. From our mutual disdain for mosquitoes and some species tend to their young, we have a lot in common with this arachnid . Plus, We need spiders in order to survive. Before you squash that spider that you just spied crawling across your floor, consider these five fascinating facts about these eight-leggers.
1. Mother spiders stay with their babies, just like we do.Almost all spider moms protect their young by creating a safe “blanket” made of silk to cover them with and then guard the sac until hatching. The moms that don’t leave or die before their babies hatch will stay with their wee spiderlings and care for them. The wolf spider, who is known as super-spider-mom, will carry the egg sac with her until her tots hatch. Once the wolf spider babies are born, they climb onto mom’s back and ride along until they are full developed. They survive by eating the yolk from their egg sacs. The wolf spider babies go everywhere that mama goes, including during her hunting. If a baby falls off of her back, she will halt what she’s doing and wait for the little bugger to hop back on. Comb-footed spider mamas also stay with their little ones and feed their offspring with liquid from their mouths. This all sounds a bit like attachment parenting.
2. We have the same archenemy: the mosquito. over one million people die each year due to mosquito-borne illnesses? There are 10 major diseases that are caused by these little buzzers, including Malaria and the West Nile virus. Well, our friend the spider eats those pesky pests. In fact, certain spider species, like the Malaysian jumping spider, get their nutrition solely from mosquitoes. Another jumping spider from Africa is known to eat mosquitoes exclusively, unlike most spiders who eat mosquitoes and other insects. Spiders are also known to stalk mosquitoes like cats

  Hi Sammy
You should enter that pic into the hat contest, your hat looks totally cool! How did everything go?
Today mom had her best spring day at the center so far. She got to work in the bunny room and take care of the baby squirrels. Many of the babies have been weaned and are eating either salad (bunnies) or mash (squirrels), so mom got to clean their little cages and prepare baby food for them. She loves the babies.
It's cool and cloudy again today. Mom didn't get any work done outside yesterday because while we were blogging it started to rain. It rained on and off all day. Today was supposed to be better, but it's still pretty humid outside and a bit cool. Mom doesn't like to work out there on cool damp days. I hope you are having some good spring weather and getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Willie

  Hi Sam
Greyt job on the derby pics ... love them! I hope you talk Miranda into the contest too.
If you could help Cydney & Princess with their hats, that would be so nice. They have the hats but can't get them on. Cydney #11356 and her fister Princess. Also, Hulk needs a new hat or just a color change on the hatband #149144. I think that's it. That is too funny ... you are the mad-hatter! LOL! I hope you entered the hat contest too.
How's it going at your place? I know that spring is really there ... lucky bird. We got a taste of it but it went away. This is early for us anyway. Is mom still cooking for all? Hope she gets a visit with the little ones.
Well, it wasn't a beach day at all. Back to dreary and cooler with no sun ... what happened? I guess I'll set up my beach chair and use a sun lamp.

  Hi Sammy
We hope the visit went well and that Ashlynn loves her new shoes. I bet she'll be begging to come visit granny now! Maybe your mom can check on her academic progress by asking her things like the alphabet?
Nothing special going on today, just chilling with mom. She is still working outside to clean up after the winter, but it's too cool to take us out there yet. Maybe Saturday, it's supposed to go to 70 then. Tonight mom will go to dinner with her sister, then clean our cages again. It's a recycling week here, so she'll be cleaning up all the paper we get in the mail on a daily basis too. Tomorrow all the extra newspapers will go to the wildlife center for use there.
I hope you are having a good day, getting some springlike weather, and of course, getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Willie

Is Miranda entered in the hat contest? Will you enter? I hope so.
I'm glad that my songs were ok. We all missed you and the scruffy birds. I just slammed as many as I could ... keep em dancing.
I will be sending out an email to the "workers" of the derby in a week with info for all.
Yes, the fake bird is back blogging. I think she just likes to cause problems. Following rules is not her thing.
I have a few birds asking for help with hats ... are you available and/or do you know anyone else that can help?
We had 60 and sun today ... YAY!!! I sat on my t-stand soaking up the sun and watching my parronts clean windows and screens. It's hard work supervising.
I'll have another cool drink with an umbrella in it!

  Hello Sam~
I hope you are having a wonderful day! I love your new picture and I love your avatar! They are both spectacular as always!
Your mom is not wobbly!!!! Moms mother use to call her "Amazing Grace". Grace is not mom's middle name!ha! So we will think of your mom as "Amazing Grace".
It is so exciting that she is going to spend some time with the gran! It's very important for kids to spend time with their grandparents! And a dance class will be so much fun to watch! Mom only had one grandma left when she was born and she spent time with her as often as she could! Her grandmother was a teacher and would give mom lessons in the summer. Mom loved books even as a little kid and her grandmother shared some great stories with her. One day the granddaughter will remember this day with great fondness! I hope the trend continues and that your mom gets to spend lots of one on one with her! I know I would love to spend a day with her!
As for the turkey thing, you know you are not suppose to bite the hand that feeds you! I usually go for the arm!hahahaha

  Hi Sammy
We'd love for your mom to make a picture of us! THANKS!!! I love Miranda's hat, too, that is a cute pic.
We are starting to get flowers in bloom here, it's so exciting! Many daffodils have already opened up, the forsythia is in bloom, there are hyacinths in the yard in all different colors, buds on the wiegalia, the lilac is sprouting leaves, it's looking a lot like spring here!
This morning mom had a tour with K kids about animals. They were another Montessori group and were well prepared for their tour. They spent about half the time in Bird Hall, comparing beaks and feet. Mom loved that.
When she got home, her cell phone had lost the charge, so she tucked it into her purse to take to Radio Shack after she dropped off the dogs. They are presently at the groomer having a spa day, and the guy said it would be longer today, so they must be really busy there.
At Radio Shack, the guy told mom her battery was really dead, and put it on a charger. He then checked the cord which mom had remembered to pack, and found out the cord itself is defective. She has to call the manufacturer for a replacement. He was cute, offered to leave her phone on their charger for a couple of hours while she shopped, but mom politely declined and bought another cord to bring home with her. It would be easy to charge it this afternoon there, but what about tomorrow? So, she got the new cord, which he told her she could return in 30 days for a refund! Mom told him she's probably going to keep it as a spare, though.
So, we're finally able to blog while the phone is charging and the dogs are away. I hope you are having a pleasant day and getting some spring weather, lots of cuddles, and of course, your daily scritches. Hugs, Willie

I missed you at the Milonga. I had the wrong week but heard a few days before that it would be early.
I scrambled to put up songs. I did 8 songs between 8:45 and 9:25pm. I went like a crazy lady bird!!! This is what I used ... just so you know for the next one.
59th Street Bridge Song
New Attitude
What a Day For a Daydream
Walking on Sunshine
Happy
The Way You look Tonight
Single ladies
Let's Stay Together .... last song for the night.
I think I had too many but, I crammed them in as fast as I could.
Don't forget the Milonga Derby is on May 9th.
Missed you !!!!!
It was a good day. We had 58 degrees with sun. And, dad shoveled the last snow off the patio ... YAY! Even the ice is melting on the lakes ...should I pack for the beach?

  Hi Sammy
Dinner last night was a lot of fun. They ate at a place mom had never been called the Silk Elephant. It was pretty good Thai food, but she liked the company more. She hasn't seen Jim for awhile, and last time she saw him, he was here for his aunt's funeral, so they didn't get to talk much. Last night everyone got caught up with each other over a good dinner. What could be better? And mom found out he's here for a few more days, so maybe she'll get a chance to go visit him again. He is staying at his sister's house, which isn't too far.
Today mom is hoping to get out into the yard and continue the cleanup. The guys came and mowed yesterday for the first time, so we think spring is officially started now! I hope you are having a fun day and getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Willie

  Hi Sammy
It was good to talk to your mom yesterday, did you hear me, too?
Today mom cleaned and fed the bats again. I know, old story. After she finished with them, she went in to the kitchen area to help label and sort the baby shower donations. All the food items need expiration dates in sharpie so everyone can see them. She dated as many cans and jars as she could, put away paper towels, toilet tissue (used for baby bird nests), latex gloves, and garbage bags as well. There seem to be a lot more donations this year.
Tonight mom will be going to dinner with a friend of hers from NY city. He's in town for a few days, and mom hasn't seen him for about a year now. It will be good to catch up. Mom thinks he retired this year, he taught Italian at the Fashion Institute for many years.

  Hi Sammy
Well, another good milonga last night! The flowers in the gardens were beautiful, the pond looked lovely, especially after dark, Queen Booboo kept everyone entertained with daquiris and light up shoes, food was great (thanks, Kaji and Lizzie), Chyna sang so well, and thanks to Kiddo for arranging the whole thing! We had a good time.
For anyone who wasn't there, mom locked her keys in the trunk of her car after the baby shower event. They were some of the last people to arrive back at the center, even though they were the closest to the place. They got 3 people throughout the afternoon, but some donations came to the site before the shower, so they had a box full of items to carry back. Also, 2 of the people who came brought a lot of things, and one brought money from her neighbor, too, so it was pretty successful, even though mom sat reading a book most of the afternoon. Twitch had a pretty easy day, he slept most of the day away.
Just for clarification, we want to let you know that baby rehab patients do NOT go to these events. Only our education ambassadors are shown in public, never patients or orphan babies. It would stress them too much.
Today should be uneventful, mom has a day off and doesn't even have any errands. I think she'll be out in the yard starting cleanup, though, but we'll have her the rest of the time. Hope you are having a beautiful spring day, we sure are. I hope also that you are getting lots of cuddles and scritches today. Hugs, Willie

  Hi Sammy
Today it was raining again, and we had some pretty strong storms pass through here last night. Daisy kept waking mom with her pacing and whining.
There's lots of good news at the center today! The gas is back on, so dishes and laundry can be done on site and without hot plates to heat water. They also got 2 new quail babies who arrived this morning. They are really cute! There will be an online naming contest for them. They are little males. Eyetique left samples of glasses cleaner and little cleaning cloths for the volunteers, which was very nice of them.
Mom did the recovery room today and had to throw out all of yesterday's turtle food. Whoever did the room yesterday put tomatoes in their dishes, which causes gout in turtles. So mom had to make up new food dishes for them.
Tomorrow is the annual Baby Shower for the wildlife babies. Mom will be taking Twitchie the squirrel to a local business and staying with him for 4 hours, hoping that lots of people come in and bring supplies or cash for the wildlife babies who are starting to arrive. There are lots of new bunnies and squirrels already.
I hope you are having a fine spring day and getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Willie

BC sure is acting crazy. Hope if you are having problems that you are writing sitesupport@i5publishing.com or directly to Crystal at capilado@i5publishing.com.
I hope it all gets straightened out by milonga time.
Today it started out rainy and gloomy, but by the time mom got done at the museum, it was 70 and sunny. She walked the dogs after she got home from her 2 tours, and was very glad that she didn't walk them in the rain earlier.
The 2 tours were with Montessori classes, and mom was impressed with their knowledge. The first group was Kindergarten, and they actually were pretty well behaved. They also knew a lot about observing animals, did well identifying characteristics that allow them to live where they do. Mom always asks silly questions, like Does a beaver wear a raincoat? These kids were good at those.
The second group was combined first and second grades an they did a biomes tour! They were quite knowledgeable about biomes, and used scientific words, like mollusks, invertebrates, etc. It just shows that kids live up to the teacher's expectations. The second tour was over quickly, because the time just flew!
Anyway, mom is home for awhile, then she and her sis will go out for dinner before she's ours for the night.
I hope you are having a good day, getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Willie

Mom says it heard me making all this noise and came to see what was the matter! I don't believe her at all! I think she is just trying to make me be quiet but when the joy wants to come out, I let it out!hahahahaha

  Hi Sammy
Are you and the band going to be at the milonga this week?
There's not much going on here. We don't have any flowers except crocuses in bloom in our yard, but as mom was walking the dogs this morning, she saw hyacinths, grape hyacinths, daffodils, and even some tulips in bloom. We have what mom calls a microclimate zone here, since we are close to the woods. Our flowers are a week or so behind the rest of the neighborhood. It's okay, though, it means mom and the dogs get to enjoy flowers twice as long, since they can see the other yards, too.
Mom will do some shopping today, but other than that, we have her for the rest of the time. I hope you are having a wonderful spring day and getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Willie

Thanks to Aunt Denise for my pre derby pic with Paddy O'Prada. He's an awesome horsie! I love him, and he is sure a fast runner.
We are getting rain today. When mom started out on the dog walk, she left the umbrella because it was not raining at the moment. She should have known to carry it to ward off the rain, haha. The walk wasn't too long, for sure, because the rain started soon after she left.
Today looks like laundry day. Lots of table linens as well as the usual stuff need to be cleaned. Later mom will scrub cages, we think. She does that all too often to suit us, but what can I say? We are waiting for the contractors to call with prices on the kitchen, too. Hope they call soon. Mom is off today and tomorrow, which is good, because her left eye is still pretty sore from yesterday. This will give her a chance to rest it, in between laundry and cleaning, haha.
Hope you are having a great day and getting some spring weather, as well as lots of cuddles and scritches. Oh, mom posted a pic of the pastel deviled eggs, so you can see how cute they are. They were all eaten, so must have tasted good, too. Hugs, Willie

There is a rapture on the lonely shore
There is society, where none intrudes
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more,

  Hi Sammy
Today mom had a tour in Dinosaurs in their time at noon. She had a family whose parents spoke French and daughters translated for them. The mom spoke pretty good English, but they still relied on the girls to help out. The other families were all English speaking. It was a fun tour, then mom had a little time off before she started her Egg Hunt shift. She was expecting to be in Bird Hall, since that's where they have put her in the past, but this year she worked the table in North American wildlife. She handed out eggs in exchange for facts about bears. Mom loves the egg hunt day, because there are children from all over who come to participate. Pittsburghers are racially and culturally diverse, but all the parents and children seem to be enthusiastic and willing learners. Mom didn't have to count visitors today, but with the amount of eggs she handed out, she's guessing around 250 people. It was a busy 2 hours.
Now we are getting blog time, and later mom will make the wedding soup for tomorrow's dinner. In case we don't make it to the computer until late tomorrow, we all want to wish you and yours a very Happy Easter! Hope you have a great day today too. Hugs, Willie

  Hi SamIAm
Just stopping by with a heads up on the April Milonga. Not much warning I am afraid! It is next Saturday, the 11th. Taz and I decided it should be early in the month to allow as much time as possible to get things ready for the Derby in May. Any problems with the Scruffy Birds kicking off Spring with us next week end?

  Hi Sammy
This morning mom had the bats to clean and feed, and it took the whole 2 hours! There are only 6 of them, but it takes time to feed them all. And of course, mom has to get their food out of the mealie worm terrarium. Mom changed out everything in their terrarium, and as she fed each bat, she marked it with white out, so she didn't pick up the same one twice.
After her shift was done she came home to make the Easter bread dough. She made 2 doughs, which is about 6 loaves, and it's rising right now. Mom tried less eggs this year, we'll see how it goes. The recipe calls for 18, but takes forever to rise, so she cut back to 10, and we'll see if and how quickly it rises. Hopefully she won't be up all night baking.
Later on mom will make the Easter cheese and hang it to dry for awhile before putting it in the fridge. She will also boil the eggs for dyeing. Last year we did something different, and it went over well, so we're doing it again this year. Mom peeled all the eggs, split them and made deviled eggs. That's not what was different, though. She dyed the egg whites! Yep, we had pastel colored deviled eggs and everyone loved them. It let mom dye the eggs and not have them in the house for the next 2 weeks, too.
Well, I hope you are having a wonderful day today, getting lots of spring weather, cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Willie

  Hi Sammy
Peppino, Maxine, and I were yelling our heads off this morning. Mom was trying to sleep in a little, but we wanted to sing the song of our people and make sure she was up, too. Falco wouldn't dream of acting like that, you know, hahaha. She says she's a lady, but you should hear her sometimes. She is louder than all 3 of us put together.
Today it's bright and sunny outside, and when mom walked the dogs, the sun felt warm. She will feed the squirrels she released later on, because they are gobbling up what she leaves on the lawn. Hopefully stuff will be growing soon and they can fend for themselves. She saw day lilies poking their leaves out today.
Today mom and her sister will go out for a late lunch and to do a little shopping. Mom has Barnes and Noble coupons and some for Dress Barn. She doesn't need any dresses, but maybe a new pair of capris or a new top might do.
Later we will get our cages cleaned and have mom for the rest of the day. Hope your day is filled with springtime, cuddles, and scritches. Hugs, Willie

  Hi Sam I Am
A APRILS FOOLS DAY STORY- BELIEVE IT OR NOT
in trying to encompass my blogs for my campaign i have come up with this-----
the greatest thing you can do to reduce carbon emissions and combat global warming is to stop eating meat and go veggie. if the desire for meat is to overwhelming try roadkill. it is very plentiful and found along all roadways and doesn't cause horrific suffering at slaughterhouses. also remember to save your poop for future heat and fuel resources. also all CEO's of Exxon, Shell, BP,etc, Monsanto & Dupont are aliens from another planet intent on destroying earth as we now know it, by their fracking, constant oil spills, pipelines, non-stop plastic containers, chemicals and complete contamination of our drinking and water supplies.. they are very prolific and their offspring are Keurig K-Cups which live on a floating waste pile of plastic, in the Pacific Ocean, which is twice the size of Texas. if the K-Cups were lined up they would encompass the earth 10Xs. Alex from the LaHabra Flock asked about killer Bees. Killer Bees were introduced into Brazil in the mid 1950's by a scientist trying to breed a bee pollinator that was better suited to tropical places. the killer bees do pollinate but they also tried to kill all the native honeybees. Monsanto and Dupont gleefully said they would help by developing a poison so toxic it not only kills all the bees but the trees and plants as well. since this was hurting the Mexican drug cartels profits they have banned the poison in Mexico. to this day the US government is still spraying in south and central america in the 1980s a few killer bees hitched a ride on a Brazilian oil freighter and landed in Southern California where once again the conquering bees tried to wipe out the native bees. a few bees managed to mate with some of the native queen bees producing offspring that aren't as warrior like as the killers but not sweet like a honey bee but they are still pollinating so leave them alone. the month of April is hug a tree month so if you can't plant a tree go hug one and keep developers from chopping more down for shopping malls
HAPPY HUMPDAY

  Hi Sammy
Yesterday the guy came to measure the kitchen for new cabinets. Mom chose a honey color, because it's a small room and the wood in there is too dark. Falco kept yelling while he was here, telling mom that a stranger was in the house, and she should watch out. Daisy helped, too, by barking a lot. He made some suggestions about a lazy susan in one corner cabinet, putting one over the fridge, and installing a microwave over the stove, freeing up that space for a closed cabinet instead of a shelf. The guys who are going to do the work will get back to mom after Easter, so she'll be able to see what the cost is. She still wants a new stove, as the one we have is 40 years old and the oven doesn't heat evenly any more. We'll see, though, what the cost is before mom does any shopping.
Our cleaning lady told mom there is a Sears outlet store close by where she can look at floor models and but them at a discount, so it's one more thing to consider.
Today I think mom will finish shopping for the groceries needed to make the wedding soup, the ham, and the Easter Bread. She will wait until Debbie, the cleaning lady, is finished, though.
Guess what mom saw when she went out to feed the new squirrels today? There were catkins on the willow, tiny buds on the forsythia, and 2 brave little crocuses in bloom! It looks like spring is finally getting here!
I hope you are having a great day and getting tons of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Willie

  Hi Sam I Am
Birds can be helpful to each other in many ways. The most familiar form of cooperation is when an owl or hawk appears in the neighborhood, causing every songbird within a quarter of a mile to sound alarm calls and even dive at the predator. Perhaps the most interesting form of help is when young birds of the first brood of the year help their parents raise the second brood of the year. There have been many reports of juvenile eastern bluebirds carrying food to the nesting houses containing their parents’ second brood.American crows and Florida scrub-jays demonstrate some of the same cooperative behavior, when sexually immature one-year-olds help their parents gather nesting material, protect the territory, and carry food for the next generation.Cooperation occurs among acorn woodpeckers of the Far West, when groups of up to 10 birds live together, year-round, jointly defending the communal territory, gathering food, and together incubating eggs and feeding the nestlings of each pair in the group.

Sometimes birds of different species lay eggs in the same nest. This has happened among American robins and northern cardinals. The two species take turns incubating eggs, sometimes sitting side-by-side, and jointly feed the young when they hatch. There are also adoptions. For example, a male Carolina wren started feeding an incubating female house wren. When the eggs hatched, the male Carolina continued by feeding the babies, causing both of the true parents to desert, leaving the rearing of their young to the foster father.

This is my last day of my campaign and I want to thank all of you for your help in making my campaign a success. it has been so much fun visiting with each of you every day. i apologize for not being able to answer all your comments individually but i did read every one and enjoyed them very much. i love you all so much.

  Hi Sammy
Just a brief mention of the cart contents: the animal pelts that mom displayed were hunted probably 100 years ago, when guys went and trophy hunted. A lot of the collection is from a guy named Childs Frick, a friend of Carnegie's and son of Henry Frick, whom you might remember from Peppino's blogs. If the pelts are newer, they were donated by the zoo after the animal passed away.
Mom added stuff to the squirrel mix she brought home yesterday, some kibble and more nuts, so she has a lot of food now for the released squirrels.
Today a guy is coming over to measure the cabinets and show mom what's available. She is anxious to see what he has to offer. Then later, she will go to PetSmart for a few doggie things, like new tie outs and maybe a new leash. She wants to look for a treat pouch that hooks onto her jeans if they have them, too.
After that, she's ours for the rest of the day. I hope you are having a great day and getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Willie

  Hello Sam~
I hope you are having a wonderful day! It's been too long since I got blogs out to every bird and I wish I had something exciting to share but it's been rather dull around here.
Dad is home for the day since he had to go to his doctor. Just the usual 6 month check up because of the cholesterol medicine he takes. You would think the cat would be all over him since he doesn't see him much but Merlin is still following mom everywhere. She is the one who feeds us so I can't blame him for sticking close by! You wouldn't want to miss a snack!
I will be having "turtle tank" cleaning duties once mom gets back from dropping Ian off at work. He wasn't suppose to work today but someone called out again! Ian picks up most of his hours that way!
I have the very important job of watching George and Gracie while mom washes the tank. They go into a little box which mom calls there summer home! I watch to make sure they don't escape! Gracie is always wanting to get out although I have no idea where she thinks she is going to go. It's a turtle thing I guess!
I hope your day is just wonderful! Leaving a vote and a big hug!

  Hi Sammy
That was a beautiful service for Angel Mario yesterday. What a great way to celebrate his life. We were there, but silent, as mom was working. In my gallery are 2 pics of what she was doing yesterday. One of them shows where she was set up, right by the camel driver and lions, and the other shows what she had out on the cart: lion pelt, cheetah pelt, sable horn covering, giraffe ankle bone, an impala skull, a gorilla skull, and a warthog skull. The pelts were new, and got a lot of attention. It was a good afternoon for talking to folks.
Today at the center, mom did the RVS room again, and was supposed to feed the bats. When she got to the treatment room, Jess (staff) had already fed 4 of them, and cleaned their terrarium. She was feeding one of the baby squirrels, and invited mom to feed the other one. Mom gladly did that! She hasn't fed babies for nearly a year, so it was a nice change.
Speaking of squirrels, when mom walked the dogs this morning, there was a squirrel near the bird feeders in front of the house. It ran when it saw mom and the girls, and it ran right into the hide box that mom brought home and got nailed up last week, so it was one of the new kids! Mom was happy to see that. She got more squirrel mix while she was at the center, as things aren't really growing outside yet. So they will have food for at least another week.
I hope you are having a good day and getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Willie

  Hi Sam I Am
this is a continuation of birds intelligence from blog on 3-27. we messed up on the order.
Examples of bird intelligence include…
Carrion crows in Japan that deliberately place nuts in roadways, wait for cars to crush the nuts then retrieve the nut meats, all while coordinating around traffic lights to keep safe.
Woodpecker finches in the Galapagos Islands that trim sticks to the proper length for use as tools to forage for insects.
Green herons and other heron species that use bread fed to ducks or picnic leftovers as bait to attract fish for their hunting.
Blue tits in the 1920s that learned which color of milk caps on delivered milk had the most cream (whole milk) and pierced those caps to drink the cream.
Western scrub-jays that hold funerals for dead birds by making loud noises and avoiding the corpse, behavior that may be warning other birds of fatal threats.
Northern mockingbirds that recognize individuals who may be a threat to their nests and will attack only those individuals rather than attacking all passersby indiscriminately.
Aplomado falcons that hunt cooperatively in pairs and thereby increase their hunting success by a large margin through this teamwork.
Jays that cache hundreds of seeds and nuts in fall and manage to retrieve the majority of them over the course of the winter, exhibiting great recall for their hiding places.
Other well known examples of bird intelligence that could be attributed to instinct but still show at least some higher mental capability include:
Amazing nest architecture with intricate construction
Returning to the same ranges, even the same nests, for many years
Ability to navigate migration safely despite changing landmarks
Play behaviors, including taunting cats or playing with objects for entertainment
Recognizing who refills feeders and interacting with that person
Curiosity when responding to pishing or investigating new stimuli
Showing emotions through courtship, caring for nestlings, etc.
Some Are Smart, Some Are Stupid
Like any animal, not all birds are equally intelligent. Ornithologists generally agree that corvids (jays, ravens, crows, rooks, jackdaws, etc.) and parrots are among the smartest bird species and that social, gregarious birds often exhibit more intelligent behavior than solitary species. Still, every backyard birder has seen that one "stupid" bird at their feeders who just can't figure anything out, while another bird of the same species seems to be an Einstein in comparison. Watching birds and witnessing their intelligent behavior can be a joy for backyard birders, and learning more about bird intelligence in quantifiable ways is sure to keep ornithologists busy for decades to come.

  Hi Sam I Am
The Purpose of Play
All play that wild birds may use helps them develop necessary survival skills. Even adult birds may continue to play and refine their abilities, though not necessarily with the same frequency as juvenile birds play.
Manipulation play helps birds get more coordinated to build nests, capture prey or extract food from different sources. This type of play keeps bills and talons in good condition and builds up the necessary muscle strength and dexterity for intricate actions.
Investigation play teaches young birds about the world they inhabit, including edible and inedible foods and what objects are safe to touch. As birds investigate more, they refine their ability to cache objects and develop their senses.
Chasing play strengthens wing muscles and helps young birds develop greater agility in the air, or for terrestrial birds, strengthens their legs and helps them be more agile when running. This also helps carnivorous birds develop sharper hunting skills.
Taunting play sharpens a bird's reflexes and increases their agility. It also helps them learn to anticipate prey reactions or how to avoid predators, and will be useful for mobbing behaviors or defending their territory.
Balancing play strengthens foot and leg muscles and helps birds learn how to use their wings to counterbalance air currents or disruptions. Balancing can also be useful for different types of foraging or courtship displays.
Curiosity play teaches birds more about their world, expanding their knowledge of both threats and benefits and helping them react to the unexpected. Curious birds can be more adaptable and will be more successful when encountering changes in their habitat.
Mimicry behavior teaches young birds how to act like adults of their species and learn essential skills such as proper sounds and songs or how to use their unique bills or other physical attributes to the best effect.
While different play behaviors all have a purpose in helping birds survive, some birds do seem to play just for the sheer joy and fun of the activity. As with many types of bird behaviors, the exact purpose of all play is not yet understood, even by dedicated ornithologists, but birders can still enjoy watching the playful behavior of birds. Every time they see their feathered friends engage in another game, they learn just a bit more about birds even as the playing birds are learning more about their world.

  Hi Sammy
We want to thank everyone who hosted and worked hard for another successful milonga. Kiddo, Taz, Sam, Lizzie, and everyone else, including the dancing leprechauns, made it a great event. Congrats to all the picture winners, too. It was tough to vote this time, all the pics were outstanding.
Yesterday was a busy one for mom, and today looks to be a bit better. She is working at the museum from 1 to 4 on the African wildlife cart. It should be interesting, they got the giraffe ankle bone (cannon bone) back on the cart, and added a lion and cheetah pelt. There are also some cool skulls there to put out, a gorilla, a horn from a sable, and a few other things. It should be a fun afternoon.
After mom gets home, she's ours for the evening. It's still cold here, so I know mom will come straight home to be with us. Of course, she'll clean cages first, but then she's ours! I hope you are having a terrific day, getting lots of cuddles, scritches, and maybe even an extra treat. Hugs, Willie

  Hi Sammy
Great pic! Perfect for the milonga!
That's wonderful news! We are so happy he got the job, now mom can see an end in sight and relax a little. It sounds like a good job, too, one that has benefits.
Today mom got some bad news. Quincy and Danny, the bob white quail who lived at the center, got put down yesterday. It's a shame, but both boys were close to 9 years old! In the wild, they live for a year or 2, and in captivity they can survive to 5, so we were lucky to have the boys for nearly 9 years. Mom cried, of course, but she realized a few months ago that their time was short.
In other news, mom attended a mammal handling class today, and at the end, they said to take mammals off site the volunteer first had to go with staff a time or 2. Mom asked if that was necessary for her, since she's been doing that for 13 years! They told her no, they would grandfather her in, haha.
Then she worked at the museum for the Preservation Fair today. She worked at a table that showed the effects of things like water, abrasion, light, and even using the wrong kind of pen could damage artifacts, prints, photos, etc. Did you know that Sharpies are not permanent, and can cause damage to your CDs? Mom found that out today. She writes on all the CDs she burns, and uses a sharpie. Guess that stops today.
I hope you are having a great evening. We'll talk more tomorrow. Hugs to you, Willie
