  My earlier blog
Was not directed at anyone on here. You've all been very helpful and I appreciate that. That blog was about another woman I encountered today, responding to my craigslist ad about donating a cage to my cause of saving Abby. I was just showing everyone the kind of crap I'm having to deal with in this situation. It's very frustrating, and I can appreciate others who have gone thru this before me so much better now as I face all of this.

  Another epic day
To make a long story short as this won't let me type as much as I'd like- A woman offering to donate a cage to us called the bird store. This was the result:
- "I called Casa and they said your story is an absolute lie! They said Abby is too sick to leave at this time but when she does, she will go with her cage that is full of toys, and that she will be provided for her whole life. I'm not sure of your motive but shame on you."

My reply:
- "I just got back from Casa La Parrot. Dawn explained to me that it was a miscommunication on her part, that they actually paid the nursing home $700 for Abby, and they have the paperwork. She said that the nursing home could have sold Abby as a breeder for $1200, and that Casa La Parrot could have as well. Though that is the 3rd different story I've been given by her, and the fact they would even consider selling a very plucked and stressed bird as a breeder, makes me question the store's motives even more. Her cage "full of toys"- it's not full of toys. There are 3 cheap toys in there now that Dawn just put in today herself, and they are not even what Abby really needs. Abby is also not sick. The "medicine" they are giving her is called Pluck No More, and it's supposed to help birds stop plucking even though it is not a proven thing, and many people I've spoken to that have used it, said it didn't work. Yes, Abby will be provided for, for the rest of her life, BY ME. Still, $700 for a very plucked, mutilating, and stressed bird is ridiculous, and even tho Dawn told me they are not trying to make money off of her, that's exactly what they are doing. The best thing that can be done for Abby, is to have her out of that store where I can give her 24/7 attention and care, and get her to an actual avain vet. These are the facts, you can call me a liar and judge me all you want to, but the fact remains that I AM telling the truth and I know I am.

Even though you were naive enough to even think that a store that's ruining a bird would actually admit to ruining it, and you are now thinking I am a horrible person, I want to thank you for calling them because once they found out how serious I am, and that I'm involving other people, I finally got some straight answers out of them, and they are being the nicest to me they've ever been."

I know dealing with people like this comes with the territory of rescue, but it still astounds me the crap people will put you thru.

  Momma bird here
This has been my awesome day (sarcasm). Went to Casa La Parrot today to visit Abby and put money down on her. Got stuck with a ridiculously large tax of about $200 on top of the $500 already being asked for her. Found out that it's the nursing home demanding $500 for her, and Casa La Parrot hasn't paid them yet. I'm assuming that the $200 tax is the store's profit. Profit off my poor Abby. Oh, it gets better. She had to be collared today. On top of her ripping out more feathers and chewing skin off her feet, she started ripping her skin open on her chest. My poor girl looks horrible :( I'm going back tomorrow to raise hell with the store because A.) she needs to be in a quieter area of the store and that should be a no brainer B.) I want to know the name of the nursing home causing my grief C.) I'm going to spend as much time with Abby as I can while I have the extra time.

I am soooooo stressed out right now, people just really irk me. On a positive note, Abby let me scratch her head today, and even cuddled up to my face. And I read that Greys aren't cuddley! She is such a sweetheart, and she really only trusts me. I can't stand to see her go thru anymore hell. More pics on Ichi's page.

That being said, any help anyone is willing to offer, no matter how small the amount, would be greatly appreciated. I've got to get her out of there as fast as I can; I fear for her life if I don't. And I know I'll have even more expenses coming my way with having to buy her all new stuff and the vet visits we'll be making.

  Hey Henry
Thank you for visiting. We did get some good pictures, didn't we? I'm glad I took them. I am completely tore up about Polly's passing, and I miss him very much. I haven't been able to sleep much since that Friday. But in my grief, something told me to go out to the local bird store on Saturday. I did, and I met Abby. She's a 14 year old Congo African Grey who's owner just passed away last week. Losing her owner and the transistion from the quiet nursing home where they lived to the loud and hectic bird store has really messed her up. She's been plucking really bad. I met her within 2 minutes of being there, and she came right up to me and cat called. I told my husband, "I think I found my new naked bird." I visited her for the 3rd time today, and she came to me and stepped up with no problem. I held her for awhile and talked to her gently to calm her down as she was very nervous today. I got some good pictures and put them on Ichigo's page. I think it was fate that brought her and I together. I'll be putting my deposite down on her Saturday.
