Hi! My name is Pippin

I am a Green-Cheeked Conure from Keene, NH.

pips, fuzzy bum, Mr. Green Pants.

8 years old   M

Green-Cheeked Conure

I LOVE sunflowerseeds, canary seed, and apples.

On top of my cage, or on the bed climbing all over my mommy! I like to nest in her hair as well.

The remote control. It is my mortal enemy.

She always gives me fresh veggies and fruit everyday. Plus she always gives me head scratches everyday.

I makes a gurgling noise at night when I hear the humidifier come on. I scared my mom the first time I did it. She didn't know what I was doing and thought I was getting sick. Hahaha!.

Hey Pippin, I’m just flyin’ by real quick to tell you a “joke of the day!” (hey, no groaning…I SWEAR this one is funny!) Ok, so…..how was the Roman Empire cut in half? ???????????   Hey Pippin!
If you’re taking a vacation with your parronts this year…or they going off without you (hmph!), then I’m here with Caymus’ “green idea of the day” just for you world travelers out there! 1) Touring a new city? No better way to see the sites either by walking or public transportation. When in Rome, they say. 2) If you must rent a car, rent a hybrid! 3) When dining out, eat “local”…if in Maine, have lobster. Trip to Washington? Try the salmon. No sense having a steak in Key West when you could be dining on Stone Crab and Key Lime Pie! 4) Same for where to dine…choose a local mom and pop establishment instead of the golden arches. Helps the local economy at the same time. 5) Stay at hotels that are adopting sustainable initiatives…and use those towels and linens more than one day please! 6) When it comes to souvenirs, buy something that was locally made. I’d rather have a painting from a local artist than a Grand Canyon snow globe made in China any day. Happy trails, and don’t forget to write! (hehehe)

  Hi Pippin!
Peachy here…helping Caymus with his Earth Day campaign. While Mr. Big Beak was chowin’ down on mom’s Easter dinner Sunday, I hopped on the ‘puter to do a little research. --Did you know that recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to watch TV for 3 hours? --Did you know that more than 20,000,000 Hershey's Kisses are wrapped each day, using 133 square miles of tinfoil? All that foil is recyclable, but not many people realize it. --Did you know if every newspaper was recycled, we could save about 250,000,000 trees each year? Unfortunately only 27% of all American newspapers are recycled. --Did you know that each year, billions of used batteries are thrown away in the United States? This constitutes 88% of the mercury and 54% of the cadmium deposited into our landfills. --Did you know that approximately 5 million tons of oil produced in the world each year ends up in the ocean? And those humans complain about how messy us birdies are??? Ha! Even Caymus isn’t that dirty and he’s a WRECK! hehehe Singing a little Canary song as I press the vote button on your page!

  Hi Pippin!
Caymus here. Today I’d also like to mention that it’s “Prevention of Cruelty to Animals” month. My little friend Pippin from Dearborn Heights, MI, along with his flockmates Dusty Beaker, Skipper, Sammie, Max and Sapphire, reminded me of that fact. Thanks, Pip! I got my green idea of the day by going to Disney.go.com/Earth, where you can preview the trailer for the new movie coming out on Earth Day. And, to celebrate the premier, the film’s makers will plant a tree in honor of every moviegoer who sees the film in the opening week. The trees will be planted in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, which is considered the most endangered rainforest in the world. Some of our wild cousins live there…so now mom’s trying to figure out how she can smuggle me in the movie theater! hehehe Stay green my friend-hugs and votes all around!

  Hey Pippin!
Caymus here. Well it’s that time of year again when I really show my true colors and invite everybirdy our there to “go green” with me! Even my fister Peachy has gotten into the spirit…I mean, have YOU ever seen a green Canary? Rumor has it that I painted Sam the Grey green last year, so you better be careful or this year I may come after YOU! hehehe And of course, stay tuned for my “green ideas of the day” as well as some really neat quotes, and of course a silly joke or two. Earth Day is very important to our flock not just on April 22nd, but every single day of the year because as an old Cree Indian Proverb says, “only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught, will we realize we cannot eat money.”

Hi Pippin! Thanks for stopping by. Just a quick note today to say good luck to you and the flock in your move. My mom has moved so many times in her life she cringes just to LOOK at a cardboard box. Don't be too scared in your new digs...I'm sure you'll get use to them soon enough and plus, a little adventure in a bird's life can be fun too! My suggestion...help mom open the boxes by chewing them up! hehehe Sending a vote and big birdy hug your way. Let me know how the move goes!

  Hi Pippin and flock!
Happy New Year! I know that Peachy and I have not been around much lately but that doesn’t mean we haven’t frequently thought about all our dear friends here on the BC. We just wanted to fly by today to say that we have not forgotten about you, miss you dearly, and promise to keep in touch in 2009. You’re friendship has meant a lot to us (and mommy, too) and we all wish you joy, peace and prosperity in the new year. Ok, have to leave you with a “joke of the day….” Question: Why can’t a chicken coop have more than 2 doors?………………………………………….Answer: Because if it had 4 doors it would be a chicken sedan! hehehehe! Hi Pippin! Thanks for stopping by...it was great hearing from you! That is wonderful that your mom is volunteering at a bird rescue. My mom has been thinking about doing that since daddy won't let us foster a birdy. He knows once a birdy enters the house, there would be no leaving! How well dad knows mom....anyway, just waiting for the skies to clear here. Tropical Storm Fay came through our part of the state and I haven't seen the sun in days. Luckily were we are, the is no major flooding. So because I haven't been outside mom's been singing "you are my sunshine," to me, just to keep me cheery! (awe!) Leaving big hugs for ya...squawk at ya soon!

Hello Pippin! I know…long time, no squawk. It’s been an interesting few weeks around here. My skin-sis just celebrated her 12th birthday and (I don’t know what my parrots were thinking) she had a sleepover with FIVE other girls. And mommy and daddy thought I was loud? Ha! A good time was had by all and only one girl went home with a tummy ache (pizza at 11 p.m. followed by chips, soda and a pickle…ugh!) and apparently dad has to repair my sis’ bed. Hey, I understand…sometimes I chew off the loops that hold my happy hut to the bar clips and mommy has to sew them back on. (grin) Dad’s two sisters also came to visit and I got to sleep in mom and dad’s room just incase I felt like imitating an alarm clock in the early morning. But even daddy said I was on my best behavior and when everyone left on Monday, mom fixed me a special plate with brown rice, chicken, green beans and grapes! Sunday mom is going to the bird show and I can’t wait to see what she brings back (feathers crossed for a Pak-o-bird). So what’s new with you? Hope all is well and I’m leaving ya a HUMONGUS hug and a vote!

  Happy July from Caymus!
Hello Pippin! Please excuse the “form” email but it is the only way I can catch everybirdy up on what’s been shakin’ without sounding like a broken record. Anyway, we’ve all been very busy with yet more projects around the house. Mom has permanently put my cage out on the back patio and (drum roll please) bought me a nice new (bigger..yippie!) cage for the living room. She got kind of tired of rolling me in and out of the house and my water dish splashing all over the place. I started a few conversations with the neighborhood Mockingbirds, but the Blue Jays and Cardinals are still scared of me. The Pelicans fly too high for me to talk to, and I HATE, HATE, HATE the stupid vultures that sometimes land of the neighbor’s roof. I’ll scream my head off if I see one of these buggers! I’m getting along well with my skin-sis while she’s on summer break. Some days she goes to camp but on days she is home I make sure she doesn’t sleep too late and get her up around 9-9:30am, which is pretty nice of me considering I’m a Conure and I love a good morning yell! On the other wing, she does give me a treat for letting her sleep in a bit and I’ve helped her clean out her room, which is her project for the summer. And if you can believe, she came up with that project all on her own without any instruction from our parronts! Let’s see…what else? Oh yes, the back patio…well you know the one I’m on is screened in. Well mom and dad decided they want to lay a brick patio on the outside of the screened room, too. So this weekend mom started tearing up the grass and she’s got about half of it done. Next she has to level and tramp down the existing dirt, then spread paver sand on top of that, and then finally she will have to put down each paver, one at a time, leveling it out and fitting in the next one. Daddy wanted to hire someone to do it, but mom’s got her frozen lemonade and her big umbrella all ready to go and told daddy she wants to design her own patio and if it takes all summer, that’s ok. Daddy just has to supply the materials and mom will do all the work. And I’ll supervise! hehehe Dad’s bettin’ she cries “uncle,” but if I know mom, she’ll complete the project to perfection. I’ll let you know how that turns out. Oh, and last thing…I heard a firecracker go off a few nights ago. Scared the bejesus out of me and I took cover in my happy-hut. Last night, however, it was no big deal. Sometimes the humans in my flock are louder than an entire fireworks display. (I’m sure my parronts would say the same about me.) So mom’s happy that I’m taking it all in stride and she won’t have to worry about me having a nervous break-down on the 4th of July. On that note, I’d like to leave you with my joke of the day…Q: “What would you get if you crossed the American national bird with Snoopy? A: A bald beagle! Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo!!!!! Leaving big hugs and a vote…squawk at ya later!

Caymus here! Long time, no squawk…how have you been? It’s a nice sunshiny day here. Today mom gives me a bath with the spray bottle and then I get to wipe my face on her shirt, shake the water from my feathers onto her face, and soak up the rays while I dry off. Hey Pippin! Oh it’s been crazy around here and mom’s been so busy. Daddy is out of town on a business trip. My skin-sister seems to be working on some huge project for school. My cage has been moved to mom’s room because new countertops are being installed in the kitchen. And to top it all of, the ladies who clip my toenails are coming by tonight…eek! But of course I’m taking it all in stride and being a really good birdie. Mom even took me out once to the kitchen and I instructed those workers on how things should be done! They should be finished today, daddy comes home tomorrow, and mom says sis’ project BETTER be done by Friday. What a crazy flock I have…but I love ‘em anyway! Well here is a huge hug and a vote for you…chat with you soon!

  HAPPY EARTH DAY FROM CAYMUS
Happy Earth Day, Pippin! Today is the day to celebrate our plant, do something positive to make it a better place, and to pass on that message to our future generations. Mom and I want to take this time to thank you for reading my “Green Ideas.” You know what the best part was? We have realized that all the BC parronts out there are the largest group of green-minded folks around! I mean, I send out an idea and I get tons of responses back that your flock is already doing these things! Now, I know there are a lot of really good people out there with an appreciation for nature and the will power to save our plant. But for everybirdy here to all have that same ideal? My theory is that us birdies have a special influence on our humans. That when they look in our eyes, they see compassion. When they see us fly, they know our hearts. And when they feel our feathers against their skin, they know that the trust we give them comes from a spirit within us all. I’m so honored to be a part of this BC family, and so my final “green idea of the day” is to BE KIND TO ONE ANOTHER…WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!

  Hey Pips!
It looks like everybirdy here on the BC is starting to stretch thier wings outside as the temp is starting to warm up! I love this time of the year because it's warm enought to open all the windows and doors but not too hot to start the AC yet. Well it's been a little warm here but just the afternoons do we put on the AC. But that's when mom gives me a good spray and then we sit on the patio in the sunshine to dry off. All my new pin feathers are growing in so I'm a bit itchy and those showers feel GREAT! Leaving big hugs and a vote...I'll be leaving my last green idea tomorrow but here's one for today: (CAYMUS’ GREEN IDEA OF THE DAY: Do something special on Earth Day. Go on a nature hike, plant native flowers in your garden, hang a wild bird feeder, or get the flock together and watch a movie like “An Inconvenient Truth,” or “The 11th Hour.” I highly recommend the BBC series that is now out on DVD called “Plant Earth.” The video footage is nothing short of amazing. Tomorrow is Earth Day… WEAR GREEN TO CELEBRATE!)

It’s a quiet day today…just hanging out listening to some Jimmy Buffet (hey, I’m a Florida bird…what do you expect?) and pulling apart what little remains of the toy daddy bought for me on Sunday. Mom should be home by the time I’m finish with that, and then it’s toy rotation time! (CAYMUS’ "GREEN IDEA OF THE DAY": If every American switched to receiving just one bill as an electronic statement instead of a paper one, the one-time savings would be 217,800,000 sheets—enough to completely blanket the island of Key West in a single layer of paper. 5 more days until Earth Day!)

  Hello from Caymus
Breaking news from Florida: I have new flock members...about 150 of them! They have fins instead of feathers but they're so cute! Mom put a picture of them on my page. They’re really tiny and mom says most of them won’t survive, which makes me sad, but it will still be fun to watch them grow up. The mom and dad fishes are so protective that my parronts had to run out and get a divider for the tank to keep the other big fish away. Mom says if I get bored while she's at work today, I can think of names for all of them. Ha-ha mom, very funny! Leaving you a vote and a hug. Squawk at you soon!

Hey Pippin, guess what??? I showed my daddy a new trick yesterday! I learned how to pull out the tray to my cage, grab the newspaper, and throw it on the floor! See, I was helping mommy clean my cage because she always throws out the dirty papers. Then when she came home and saw what I did, she put more newspaper in the tray. So I climbed down and pulled the new stuff out too! I don't know why mom doesn't want me helping her because she put two metal clips on the bars and I can't pull the tray out anymore! When she asked daddy why he let me make a mess, he said he didn’t know he could stop me. Good answer, daddy! (hehehe) Big hugs and a vote…it’s a great day to be a birdy!

‘Twas the Night Before Easter – By Caymus & Peachy
‘Twas the night before Easter, on a warm Florida night**And Caymus was snuggled in his hut out of sight.**Peachy was snoring, the cats on the couch,**Mom and dad in the bedroom; all was quiet in the house.**And while the Conure was dreaming about hard-boiled eggs**(Which he was soon to consume and get all over his head),**In the sky flew a birdy not many have seen**He was yellow and blue and orange and green.**He had all of the colors that we’ve come to know**When we look up in the sky and see a rainbow.**Purples and pinks, some teal and blue**And gold was his tail, leaving streaks where he flew.**Now we have heard stories about bunnies and such**Who leave hidden treasures from his basket’s clutch.**There are chocolate eggs from Cadbury and jelly beans galore;**There are sugary treats, Peeps, bubble gum, and more.**But high in the sky, flying over the trees,**Above all the rooftops and smooth like the breeze,**Came a birdy so beautiful no one could deny,**Delivering delights to all his friends who can fly.**He had a gray beak, and a little round belly,**And his favorite treat was raspberry jelly!**As he landed upon one particular home**He looked down in the windows to see if any lights were on.**Now there was no movement or sound from inside this space,**So down the air vent he went (because in Florida you don’t need a fireplace).**Now Caymus the Conure was on high alert this night**And said, “Squawk, who’s there? You gave me a fright!”**“Don’t fret now, my friend…I mean you no harm.**But I’ve just flown in for the birdy nut farm.**I’ve got peanuts, pistachios and cashews, all unsalted.**Walnuts and sunflower seeds, too,” then he took a deep breath and halted.**Caymus said, “So who are you then, and why are you here?”**And the stranger responded, “haven’t I made that quite clear?**I have come to bid you happy Easter wishes**To you and your flock, even the mice and the fishes.**Thank you so much for letting me stop by,**But I’ve got to move on and to the next house I must fly.”**And like that he was gone before Caymus could blink**And that Dusky was left saying, “I just saw the Easter Birdy, I think!”**So the story now goes at this special time in the Spring,**If you turn your head late at night and think you see a wing,**If you find extra treats inside of your cage,**You’ll know the Easter Birdy is real, and could even visit your BirdChannel page!**

She use to have one over 100 gallons but sold it when she moved up from Miami because she didn't want the tank to break and she didn't want to risk killing the fish. Now she has a koi pond out back, and a 50 gallon fresh water inside. One day she wants a salt water that's built into the wall.   Hello from Caymus
Hi Pippin! I hope your having a bird-tastic day! While mommy and daddy were visiting family in Miami this past weekend, they went to Simbad’s Bird House (it’s on BIRD Road…get it?). She met three Hyacinth Macaws, a Palm Cockatoo and a beautiful and very rare Golden Conure. She really liked a cute little Rainbow Lory who would not leave her alone and would make little baby sounds whenever she would walk away from it’s cage. Heck, I even know mom’s a sucker for baby birdie sounds! Daddy was quite relieved when mommy left the store a good two hours later…he says it will be a couple years before she can bring home another bird because “the zoo is full.” But mommy and I are breaking him down, inch by inch, piece by piece…..wha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Well tomorrow is my 1st birthday and I can’t wait to see what surprises I’ll get! Mommy is even baking me a special cake that I can eat. I’m going to love it because everyone’s attention will be on ME, ME, ME! hehehe Here is a big birdie hug and vote for a great friend. Squawk at ya later!

Patrick here, Yes the workers laughed. I was whistling to embarrass them. They were both men... We had a new floor put in the kitchen and dining area. It is that laminated flooring. You know the kind that is supposed to be easy to install..Wrong! hehe. We have watched Fortune dancin to Old rock classic songs. He sings "I dropped it, I dropped it" no matter what the song is...Big duffuss. He thinks he is singing along with the music. I guess he is ....in a way. Well vote for you and your flock... Jammin out to the tunes....St. Patrick and the gang....

Come visit me, St. Patrick D'bird loves Ruby Sue, Lonnie, Slate and Mica, Fortune & Cotton Ball "I'm Tiki's Girl".

  Hello from Caymus
Love has no boundaries when it comes to race, religion, age or size. And as evidence of the special bond between a bird and it’s human, it knows no boundaries between species either. Happy Valentine’s Day from our flock to yours!

  Hello from Caymus...
Mommy and daddy are getting really busy around here, wrapping stuff up in really colorful paper with bows and ribbons on top. I love what they're doing; I'm sure it's all for me to shred and rip up! So we probably won't be signing on to the BC in the next few days and we all wanted to wish you and your flock a very Merry Christmas, and if you don't celebrate that, we're still hoping you have a very nice holiday season and send out big birdy hugs! Love, Caymus, Peachy, Mommy, Daddy, Sister and all the other critters here at the "zoo."

Come visit me, Blanche, Caymus & Peachy (2004-2010) - Thank you for BOTD!.
