LaLo and I have been pals for years, and when Flash needed a home, and due to my failing health, I thought LaLo would be better off living at the McFlock home, but l missed her from the start and Flash was determined not to be my friend! When it was obvious that he and Denise were very compatible, we talked it over and decided to make the swap! Flash is Happy, and I got my cuddle bug back, everybody is a winner! The major downside is, for the first time in 17 years, I will not be able to experience the true love of a Cockatoo, and yes, I will miss Flash but the swap was for him, not me...

Love from Ms LaLo, Chuck, & the Flash

  Good Afternoon, Miss Lalo!
It seems things are settling down around here since Mom last talked with Nanny & Aunt Kaylene. Mom has stopped rushing around & she hasn’t been packing her suitcase anymore. Once again, the wonderful scents & aromas have been wafting through the house, making me hungry! Mom has made a pumpkin pie & she tried a new recipe for Pumpkin Butterscotch Cake. It made a big pound cake & I asked to “try” until I was blue in the face & still Mom ignored my pleas! Hmphf! I’m hurt by her stinginess!

Since Mom has calmed down, I have been receiving my veggie & fruit portions with some nice toppings on them again. She has this “thing” that I like & it smells really good but one disturbing “thing” about it, is that it looks like a ninja death star!! Now, it does have these seeds in it that smell wonderful & taste better than they smell! I have decided to take those & keep them for later sharpening & using them for those asian throwing stars. I will have to practice because I can throw a knife fairly well but these…their weight distribution is much different than a heavy knife. It will take some getting used to for sure! Mom has been telling me the name of this treat is “anise” & I will repeat to her, “NICE” & bob my head up & down to show her I understand & that I like it very much. She doesn’t know I’m storing the stars in my corner piñata where I stuff all my “secret stuff” inside there! These will be housed there for later!

Lately, I’ve been exercising & toughening up for the football game Saturday! I have been running, sit-ups, chin-ups, & weight pressing using CocoPuff. She gets a little bit sick from the up & down motion but she’s been a real sport about it. I also have been running the tire course & keep messing up with my left side of my left foot, those nails grow faster than all the rest & make me stumble. I will have to show Mom my predicament so she can file them down for me. It will be a greyt time getting to play with everybirdy Saturday. Hope you have a greyt Thanksgiving Day! Give a hug to Miss Jenny & Ziggy for me! Don't forget your awesome Pops, too! Hugs, SamIAm

  Hi Way Up NORTH....
I'm standing here before you, because I'm not behind you.

I know you've all heard it before, but I just had to let you know that our second favorite bird show is this Sunday, over in Plant City, also known as the Strawberry Capital of the world.

This is the show that's held outdoors, under a gazillion old oak trees on 4-5 acres. Out in the middle of no where. But it is by far well worth the drive, and we know good stuff will be coming our way. Mom said it's time for a new cage for me, so I might get a BIG present. Then we have to wait until January for our next show over in Orlando, near Goofy World.

Come visit me, JeTTa.

Good Evening, Miss Lalo! Thanks For Your Prayers!
Well, Mom has been running around to & fro cleaning, cooking, doing laundry (in case she were to have to leave), trying to catch her breath, & then starts it all over again!

She has been in touch with her Mom & sister every evening. Nanny is still very weak & frustrated with all of the stupid things that can happen at hospitals & with doctors, etc. The stress test that was suppose to happen Monday, well, when Nanny didn’t stay for the weekend, just laying there to start her tests on Monday, she thought about that after they stabilized her, & decided she could wait much easier at home than being woke up every 2 hrs. for a blood pressure check & temperature reading. The staff (or doctor? we don’t know) decided since she went home, they canceled ALL HER TESTS!! But they neglected to tell neither Nanny nor Aunt Kaylene that they had done so! Yep. This past Monday, they drove all the way to downtown Huntsville just to find out there were no orders & that she wasn’t on the list for Monday, or through the entire week for that matter! Aunt Kaylene had been trying to get Nanny into her main physician & when she told them the situation, they scheduled them an appointment for this coming Monday. I’m getting the feeling that Alabama’s healthcare system really blows for geriatric care.

Nanny is doing alright, so far. Aunt Kaylene has a wheelchair & has been using it with Nanny. I bet both of them are very glad that Aunt Kaylene has had their home re-designed for easy wheel-chair access. Also, she had one of their bathrooms redesigned with a walk in bathtub. This has been really useful for Nanny, now, not just for Aunt Kaylene. For those of you who don’t know, Aunt Kaylene was in an accident that turned very complicated & the injury wouldn’t heal right & she lost her right leg to amputation. They had to do that to save her life. That is the main reason Mom goes over there a month to 6 wks. at a time because she has worked hard helping them in that ordeal. She has her own room there, too!

We so appreciate all your prayers for Mom’s family & also Mom. It has been a strange ordeal & hasn’t gone the way Mom thinks is any where near “normal” to say the least! Mom is hoping nothing is damaged with Nanny’s heart due to the delay this is turning out to be. Her heart history has been 2 angioplasty procedures done. The first one they implanted a stent inside one of her main arteries. Then 20 years later, she had another heart episode, & the stent needed replacing. That was about 4 or 5 yrs. ago. So, there is cause for concern when she starts having pain in her chest. She didn’t think the cardiologist recognized that he had operated on her before. Probably not since she didn’t need to see him all that often. Once she had those procedures done, she was off & running. All the family is concerned about her & are giving their time to be with her.

We are so thankful for all our friends. You are all the best that there is! Hugs, S

  Hi Lalo
A funeral service was being held for a woman who had just passed away.

At the end of the service, the pallbearers were carrying the casket out when they accidentally bumped into a wall, jarring the casket.

They heard a faint moan.

They opened the casket and found that the woman was actually alive! She lived for ten more years, and then died.

Once again, a ceremony was held, and at the end
of it, the pallbearers were again carrying out the casket. As they carried the casket towards the door, the husband cried out, “Watch that wall!”

Hi Miss Lalo! Our Home Just Came To A Screeching
....halt! Mom has been like a little tornado going through the house cleaning & scrubbing & doing those Mom things like she does. She's been happy, though, because she's been humming & singing as she works. Then tonight, after it was lights out for me, they got a very late night call. Those are never good news. At least that has been Mom's experience.

Anyway, Mom got a telephone call tonight from her sister. She had to take Nanny to the ER today. All day yesterday, into the night, & this morning Nanny was having all the symptoms of a heart attack but she refused to go to the ER. It was quite an ordeal for Mom's sister to try to coax her into leaving right away but Nanny can be very hard headed. And she was doing a very good job of that during a terrible time. She is in the hospital now since Mom's sister finally was able to get her to go. It was noon today! It took them 6 hrs. at the ER to get her checked in then checked out by a physician. Now she's stuck there until a cardiologist can see her Monday. Meanwhile, they are doing a bunch of tests on her while she's in there.

Mom's not sure if she will be needed or not but told them she can come if they do need her to come. Mom's oldest brother was on his way there for a visit when they went to the ER at lunch time. He's there now so Mom knows he can help with driving, etc.

Don't know what Mom will do for Thanksgiving. She invited her son & family for Thanksgiving but they haven't responded at all to the invitation. That has always meant "no". It would be nice if they would at least tell her to her face, "no", instead of pretending it was never asked. Mom & her mate might not even be here anyway. She will have to have her neighbor friend come down to feed me. Mom hates leaving me but in this case, it can't be helped.

You know, it would mean the world to Mom if I could get the BC Prayer Chain fired up to pray for Nanny & Mom's sister. Their names are Lorene Hughes & Kaylene Hughes. I know that would help Mom feel a little better. Her sister isn't in the best of health, either, & she has been dealing with a very hard headed woman the last 2 days. Give your good Poppa an extra tight hug tonight, Miss Lalo. It's so surreal how one moment you have your loved ones near & in a second, they can be on the threshold of passing over to the Rainbow Bridge. Well, I'm not sure humans have a Rainbow Bridge but you understand what I mean, right?

Thanks, Miss Lalo. Big hugs to all, SamIAm

  Hi lAlO
Rip-Off
The cost of what you pay for a cup of fancy coffee at home is going up -- not down -- thanks to a tricky move by the dominant home coffee brewing company.

How your 2.0 Keurig is ripping you off

It recently came to my attention that the Keurig people are making a 2.0 version of their machine with DRM (digital rights management).

I know this sounds crazy, but Keurig is using the Digital Millennium Copyright Act -- a controversial law designed to protect the entertainment industry -- to force you to only use proprietary K coffee pods in their new machine!

My executive producer likes to make individual off-brand K cups at home using a Keurig machine. That drives the cost down to around 6 cents a cup.

How much is your coffee habit costing you?

But as more and more people do what Christa does, Keurig has watched their profits go down. That’s because their business model is based on them making money from all the different coffee manufacturers who pay them royalties to have their coffee in K cups.

So Keurig came out with the 2.0 machine that has a computer chip in it to sense anytime somebody is trying to save money making coffee...and it will not let them make their coffee!

Even if you buy an off-brand refillable coffee pod, if it doesn't have the Keurig logo on it, it can sense that too.

You're better served right now with the older 1.0 versions of the Keurig machines to avoid this DRM ploy. They're available for $50 to $75. Buy one of the older ones if you are price sensitive.

Come visit me, JeTTa.

  Hi Lalo
Americans love their coffee. According to the National Coffee Association, 83 percent of us are coffee drinkers. But how much is your habit really costing you?

Stand in line at your favorite coffee shop and you'll spend $2 a cup. And that's just for coffee. Some lattes cost twice as much.

Brewing coffee at home takes more effort, but it can save you hundreds of dollars a year.

Take a look at this price comparison between buying a cup of coffee at a restaurant versus making it at home.

BOUGHT AT RESTAURANT
•Medium Dunkin Donuts hot coffee
•$1.89 before tax
•14 fluid ounces
•13.5 cents per fluid ounce

BREWED AT HOME
•12-ounce bag Dunkin Donuts ground coffee
•$7.99 before tax
•Makes up to 40 cups, 6 fluid ounces each
•3.3 cents per fluid ounce

The price of creamer, sweetener, filters, and the coffee maker itself are not included in the comparison. But you can see the difference. It’s drastic.

According to this example, it's about four times more expensive to get your daily jolt at the restaurant.

Over time, it really adds up:

RESTAURANT HOME DIFFERENCE

ONE DAY $1.89 $0.46 $1.43
30 DAYS $56.70 $13.80 $42.90
180 DAYS $340.20 $82.80 $257.40
365 DAYS $689.85 $167.90 $521.95

Note: Data based on 14-fluid ounce cup of coffee)

Just think about what you could do with that extra $500 a year.

Want to save even more? Try experimenting with inexpensive brands of ground coffee, which are often just as good.

  Hello Miss Lalo!
Mom had an "emergency chicken soup" to make today. Yes, she had other plans of laundry, gift making, & SamIAm time but instead, her mate volunteered her to make some homemade chicken soup for her very sick son. Now, I was watching quite closely, Miss Lalo. Mom's face turned all sorts of colors because she knew nothing of that until this morning when she just woke up & the chicken had already been taken out along with more chicken for Mom's & her mate's dinner for that evening. So, that means TWO dinners are to be made in one day, which happens to wear Mom O.U.T. !!

I was most upset because it would've been "Sammie Time" this morning since her mate had an early doctor's appointment in UpTown Charlotte. And believe me, it's really up there! So, we're talking 3hrs. for that. Then he was going to pick up some more items from BJ's Warehouse and 30 minutes or more for that. I would've been able to be out up until lunch time or after! BUT NOOOoooo! Mom has to make tons of food all morning long! Sam pulls out a carrot & begins to chomp it & offers one to Miss Lalo. They are particularly sweet, Miss Lalo. Sam begins to speak again, reminding Lalo that he sort of looks like Bugs Bunny right then, all propped up on a wing & carrot in talon chomping on the carrot & talking with his mouth full.

As I was saying, Miss Lalo, when Mom cooks, she won't let me out of my cage then. That's because I like sitting on her shoulder saying, "I try! I try!" and I expect to be able to taste everything Mom is touching. For some reason she got into her head that using her big Dutch Oven pot would be dangerous with me out because I'm likely to fly over & try to perch there to sample those "floaty things" in that bubbly water! Mom said it was "chicken" soup not "Sam" soup. So, after she chopped a bunch of stuff, she came over & put carrots & celery in my bowl. Some she cut like these carrot sticks & some she shredded. She tried an old preschool snack treat for me which is putting peanut butter in the celery cradle. She gave me two of those which I liked licking & chewing it. Mom said it was healthier than a cracker for birds & kids alike. So, even though I wasn't out, she did bring me some treats. I don't know if she put peanut butter in that soup, but peanut butter on my celery sticks was a lot of fun! Miss Lalo notices some peanut butter stuck in Sam's feathers & chuckles.

Hope you're staying warm! All of you are going through such a terrible storm! We are suppose to be breaking records (don't let MOM hear that!) with the lows that are heading our way. Wednesday is our worst projection. Sixteen degrees!! This is just not right! TOO COOOOLLLDDD TOO SOON! Can't even imagine what it must be like at your good home. So, take care, stay warm, stay safe & big hugs to all, even your good Poppa, SamIAm

What to Do? What to Do?
Mom's been going through the LP's about 100X now. She's put a bunch of them in a pile that she knows they aren't in the best of shape. But then there's the pile that those mean a lot to her but not all that much. Then there's the pile that's the ones that you'd have to pry out of her cold, stiff hands because she's not giving THOSE away! It's just a fact! Mom still has a turntable, a very nice one. She can listen to them anytime she wishes. No one will appreciate the Muppets with John Denver like her & her kids! Even as grown adults, they stop what they're doing to come listen to those songs! It's a Christmas Album but hey, when the music is good, IT'S GOOD! I like that one, too, and dance like crazy when I hear Kermit's voice! Actually, this is when Jim Henson was doing Kermit's voice, so really, since he is now deceased as well as John Denver, the album maybe worth a lot of money further down the road. Mom doesn't even care about that. It's the great memories & nice music, different, at Christmas time. It's very all-American. I don't know if she'll ever get that "chore" done. She's hurrying herself then takes a deep breath & says, "No, this is something to be thought over because once it's done, they aren't coming back." She's had to tell that to her mate a couple of times now & told him that asking her to have to do that NOW, well, the timing sucks big time. She was already "too" busy & this is something she refuses to be rushed on. For her, it's too important. Obviously, the mate doesn't give a rat's patooty one way or the other.

Mom has been wanting to "stow away" those records for a good while now. The cabinet they are housed in was built for them by her dad just after they were married & moved into their new house. They owned 2 chairs & a stereo system. Her dad designed & made that cabinet to hold their LP's and get this, 8 TRACK TAPES!! What the heck are 8 track tapes? Whatever they were, her dad measured them off & made bins for them to stack nicely on the shelf that was just for 8 track tapes. Mom has been wanting to empty it all out & tap out those divider boards to just have regular shelves inside. Then she wants to use it for pet stuff for the cats. It will be used in my room & I can have one of my table top perches setting on the top with my scales, etc. A nice work place that will be to specialize only in ME! As if I'm going to perch on that weird looking scale! HA!! NOOO! It's got "googally" written all over it. It will try to eat me, I'm sure. Mom says it's only to weigh me & that there will be treats associated with it. It must go through the SAME thing as a new toy. All the world is like a "new toy" & must go through the acceptance ritual. It must be tested for monsters. That's the rules. My rules, that is.

Well, Mom seems to be stuck on another LP. I better have her listen to it one more time to get her "unstuck". See ya later Miss Lalo! Hugs to all, SamIAm

  Good Morning Miss Lalo!
Mom has been approached to give away her very large "vinyl" record collection. Some of those albums were given to her from her brothers & then she added to it as she began to earn her own way starting at about 13 yrs old, babysitting for the neighbors.

Her brothers each gave her his collection when they went off to Vietnam starting back as far as 1967 for the oldest brother & about 1972 with her younger older brother (did that make sense?) They told her to keep them "nice" which meant cleaned & unscratched. She had a routine of cleaning those records once a week & she'd play them about once a week, too. Made it feel like they were back in their room listening to their music. Her Mom seemed to like that, too. Funny thing, once they came back, they didn't want their records. They said, at the time, there wasn't anywhere for them to keep them. Her oldest brother, John, came back & served a few more years as a sergeant down at the base that used to be in Key West. He was a Marine. Her brother, Randy, was navigator for the Kitty Hawk but would have to take his shift giving cover fire for the 'grunts' that they were dropping off by helicopter, in combat zones of Vietnam. He was a sailor needless to say. One brother comes out of combat & another went in. That was hard but they were so very lucky to come home again.

But now, someone has offered to take these things off their hands & Mom's not real sure she's ready to turn them loose. She remembers her son was the highlight of his senior year when his English teacher asked the students if any of their parents had some old albums from Dylan, etc. that they could bring in as they were studying "ballads" at the time. Then the Theater teacher needed some music from the '60's that he also brought some to that teacher. It wasn't long that these teachers came knocking at the door to see the entire collection for themselves & as Mom was always a good volunteer, she didn't mind at all for them to use. There is a vast array of types of music because her brothers were as different as night & day & she likes her own type of music, too. So, there was a 'wealth' of music from classical, jazz, blues, rock & roll, folk, country and even some Scottish Pipe music thrown in there, too! Now, it has a dash of Muppets & Sesame Street stuff because of her own children back in the day. Heehee! I think I like the "kid" music best of all! Heeheehee!

I hope she can make up her mind soon. She's been preparing for company coming for Christmas & this has put the brakes on her mind set in thinking in that regard. Now, suddenly, she's having to stop & go through which albums to keep & which to let go. Lots of good memories. Lots of newer memories. Can she let go? Don't know. I'm wringing my talons on which ones she'll keep! I like them, too! We'll just have to watch & give her my opinion. "NOT THAT ONE!" is one of my favorite things to say. I know how to chose a treat, my friend!

I'll

  Hey There Miss Lalo!
Tomorrow is Veteran's Day which first started as "Armistice Day" on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. "The final hours pulsate with tension as every man in the trenches hopes to escape the melancholy distinction of being the last to die in World War I. The Allied generals knew the fighting would end precisely at 11:00 A.M, yet in the final hours they flung men against an already beaten Germany. The result? Eleven thousand casualties suffered–more than during the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Why? Allied commanders wanted to punish the enemy to the very last moment and career officers saw a fast-fading chance for glory and promotion."

That was taken from a book by Joseph E. Persico entitled, "Eleventh Month, Eleventh Day, Eleventh Hour Armistice Day 1918, World War 1 and Its Violent Climax". Mom doesn't like how cynical it sounds. Not when her grandfather would tell such tales that he deemed appropriate to tell to 4 kids who hung on his very words. Which reminds me, Mom's sister, who's a historian for the U.S. Army at Redstone Arsenal, is writing an article for the base's newspaper about Mom's grandfather. It is a condensed version of a paper she had to write for her doctorate years & years ago learning to interview an actual witness to historical events, placing them on the already known time line of events, etc. and she used Mom's grandfather to do this. He was a very interesting fella & is one of a very few military survivors who served in both World Wars. Maybe your dad would be interested in reading it? If so, Mom could send some copies. She's looking forward to reading it herself! She promised to read it to me when it comes! Her sister told her she would be sending via email.

Hope your good Poppa's doctor visit went fine. Mom had a doctor's visit, too! It was with her RA/Lupus doctor who did a bunch of tests & more X-rays on Mom's knees. Mom also met with the nurse who is representing a study on patients with lupus that Mom is involved in. Lots of questions to answer. She won't see her again until about 6 months down the road. Hopefully, Mom won't be seeing the doctor again for another 3mos. That always seems too soon for Mom. It will be the "range of motion" tests that the doctor does to Mom. She says she feels like he's tying her into a pretzel knot! Ouch! I laughed when I heard her joints making a bunch of crunchy, creaking noise the other day! She told me that if I thought that was funny, the "range of motion" test would have me hysterical! That Mom, she's a funny one...or a funny sounding one!

Well, hugs to you all & STAY WARM!! At the end of the week, the twenty something degrees are coming to put a chill on us here in the south! YIKES! Better get out the scarves, hats, & mittens. Hot cocoa sounds greyt right about now! See ya around, lady fair! SamIAm

  Lovely Miss LaLo LadyBird!
What a beautiful picture of you! You look terrific!

Mom had places to go this morning but it was already cold & drizzling rain. She was very happy when they came outside to unload the basket, the rain was clearing up & by the time they arrived home, the sunshine had broken through. We were much relieved once they were finished putting everything away in its place.

Can't wait for some good Thanksgiving dinner & some football, too! Take care, Miss Lalo! Hugs to all, SamIAm

  Hi Ms Lalo
Thankyou for the reminder to vote..Mom was sooo all over that, she headed to the polling place which is 5 mins from here and voted BEFORE she served our dishes!! We weren't sure WHAT was going on!! She knows it's always quick trip that hour and we got our meals right on time 7 am!! Poor dad leaves for work at 5am and had to deal with long lines after work....but it got done!!! You're too funny Ms Lalo....you followed your respected reservations about discussing politics on the BC with the delightful reports on plumbers and toilets!!! ...lol!!! Sure hope all is fixed....those things are not fun!!! Special greetings and warm hugs from your buddies out East!!! Tahoe, Cookie and Molly and Momjudy

  Happy Sunday Ms LaLo!!
Yeah, we survived the trick o' treaters too....just so surprised more didn't brave the elements for more candy and treats!! It was chilly and blustery for sure with a few of those white things flying around every so often....cozy!!! Mom had to be reminded to flip the calendar. We could have been stuck in October for who knows how long!! We are also dearly blessed by all our friends here on BC and FB as Mom is trying to get a better balance...she'll get it! Meanwhile, enjoy the blustery days and stay cozy with your dads fabulous soups and slow cooker meals!!! Love and Hugs, Tahoe, Cookie and Molly

  Hey There Witchy Woman!
Well, tonight's Milonga was a scary but interesting tour of the BC Castle on its "haunted" side. It was crazy for sure!

What a wonderful occasion you & your good Poppa have happening tonight! It is good for siblings to get back together all at once! I hope they have enjoyed their time together & that all was a happy & pleasant stroll down memory lane. That is really nice that opportunity was made by all to come together. Those times don't happen very often for my Mom, either, so she understands why you weren't able to come to the Milonga. Family first, my friend. It's just the way it is & it's very important to keep the relationships fresh & meaningful.

Have yourself a pleasant evening, Miss Lalo. Hugs to all, SamIAm

  Hey Witchy Lalo!
Mom's home!! She's had some computer stuff to do because....well....she changed all her passwords right before leaving, then forgot to write them down & it took a bit longer to get on. Seems some sites take forever to send that new code to one's email address! It's alright since she changed ALL her passwords just to keep the gremlins out! They sure have a way in sneaking in when you least expect it!

So, I have a new picture for Halloween, too! Ghostly royalty! I wanted to be scary & Miranda wanted to dress up like a princess. I thought it was a good compromise. Great Googally Moogally! We sure have jumped into the spirit of halloween! You're looking mighty fine for a witchy parrot, too! I'd say, we're all ready for some greyt trick or treating quite soon!

Speaking of treats, Mom was fortunate to be able to bring home six different samples of foods & treats from the Birdie Paradise, the store that sponsors the Parrot Palooza. It sure was a nice place & super big, too! Everyone seemed to have the same idea of food samples & whoa boy, did they have a zillion of them to try! Lots of different Golden Feast, nice spices, every nut you could think of, shredded coconut, dried fruits & veggies. They allow you to try only six different ones & so Mom brought back some that she sprinkles on top of my real food. I have been enjoying myself to say the least. Mom said it was very hard to choose which ones to get! I can tell you, so far, I have been quite happy with what she brought home!

Mom was very happy to meet so many other parronts at the festival. She took some pictures but has been waiting on her phone to charge up before she tried downloading them to BC & FB. She took some nice pictures of all the BC Moms but also some really nice bird stands that had some very artistic carvings in them of macaws at the base! Mom said if she had one of those, she would keep it as a work of art & that I wouldn't be allowed on it! Can you believe THAT?? As if I'd want some strange birds continually staring at me! No way! I'd have to do something about that right away....like chew off their faces! It's just impolite to stare!

Hey, I was very happy to hear that your good Pops got a good report on his lab tests and such. Going to the doctor Mom dreads it! She'll be doing that next week herself. Hope your dad keeps right on staying well.

Hugs to all, SamIAm

Day 29--Igonish Surfin' Lessons with Pookie
Good morning everybirdie, Angel Girl here from the warm, sunny Ingonish beach with today's BOTM blog. It is awesome tanning by the ocean, as the waves roll in softly. We have been having a blast swimming in the ocean, and getting ready for a few quick surfing lessons. I'm not so sure on the bird on a board thing, but it sounds like fun, and I know Little Angel, Dixie and Laka are really good at it. Pookie is gonna give us some tips and pointers on how to surf. Should be lots of fun, and he's a real pro.
" Angel Girl, come on, time to take surfin' lessons" Kaji and Lizzie call as they head to the other end of the beach, were a large number of birds are eagerly waiting for Pookie to instruct them on the hows and why's of safe surfin'. Pookie, climbs up on a piece of drift-wood and begins,
"Let's start with the obvious: Surfboards are made to float on the water. They have a natural center of gravity. If you were to lay any surfboard in a swimming pool, it would come to rest the same way every time. This is what we want to do when you lay on a surf board. That is to have the board remain in the same relation to the water as it was without your weight on it, just a bit lower in the water. A good tip is to find this balance point and lay on your board then make a mark right at your beak-tip. This is a spot best made with a bit of wax or a magic marker. It is a reference point that enables you to put your beak on the same spot every time so the board will react to your weight the same way every time."
Everybirdie lays their board flat on the sand, and Pookie and Sky help them make the mark with a red marker.
"Ok, now do not paddle with both wings simultaneously because this will cause the board to speed up and slow down in the water and you will not be able to maintain constant hull speed through the water. Always paddle with the same wing-stroke, one wing, then the other." The birdies head to the edge, place their boards on the water, climb on, and start to paddle. " Now sit up carefully on your board, try not to t..." Too late Hulk, Gus and BB tip their surf boards over.
"Now it's time to learn how to stand up. Lie on your chest, your head up, looking ahead. Put your wings on the board beside your shoulders tips down like you were going to do a push up. Push your upper body up while at the same time you sweep your feet under you, laying them on the stringer, the line down the middle of the board, so your weight is centered along the stringer" Everybirdie keeps trying until they all stand up nervously. "Ok, here comes a wave, let the wave pick up the board, keep your wings out to balance, and have fun" Pookie watches as the others wobble, some fallin' others keeping their balance, and a few cheat and fly off their boards into the air.
"WOW, this is greyt" LA yells to Dixie
"WEEEEE almost as good as in Hawaii" Dixie grins, keeping his board smoothly moving on the surface.
"AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" SPLASH" Sky wipes out into the water sputtering

My dear ones,

Thank you with all my heart for your making me BOTD. It is with greyt honor that I receive this because without all of you, there is no BOTD nor BOTM. All of you are who makes this happen. I humbly accept this monarchy with good faith to serve with BOTM Queen Chuey. After today, it will be broncos & pirate ships once again! Thank you again for this very special day. (Mom’s making some carrot cake minus the frosting! Come by & have some!)

LaLo, Mom & I are praying in earnest for your good Poppa's legs. We have been since you first told us of his problem. It is with expectation that we eagerly await his prognosis. Please, if he's up to it, let us know how he has fared at that appointment!

What a great Milonga tonight. I know you got to come for a little while. I hope your good Poppa is doing alright. He's been on our hearts & in our thoughts. When that happens, Mom says it's time to pray for Uncle Chuck! So we do. Know it seems like he's been going through some difficult days lately. We've been praying that his health improves so he'll feel much better & like his old self again. Hugs for all, SamIAm
