 I was in a parakeet display at Petco when these two humans came in. I didn't pay much attention to them at first because I was sleepy but they came back again, the next day.
The lady looked at me for a long time and then tapped on the glass. Well, I got curious and ran over to her and pecked at her finger. Then the man came over so I walked over to him to get a better look. I thought he looked like a nice man so when he walked away, I tried to follow him. When he walked down a isle, I twisted my head around to try to see where he went but I couldn't see him anymore so I ran back to the lady.
When the man came back, they talked for along time and the next thing I knew, I was in a little box. I had just met my new mom and dad and I was on my way to my new "forever" home with the La Habra flock.. |

I can hardly believe that I'm the BOTD today! My teammates have made this happen and I owe them for their generosity. Thanks for coming by for a little meet-and-greet. Sorry I missed team practice yesterday. Not a very impressive start for a guy who is THRILLED to be a part of the Kevlar Club but I've promised Coach Muffin I'll work triple-time to make sure I'm ready for our first game.

Hello Fellow KEVLAR KEET!
It's amazing, I think, that we Keets are going to get to play baseball this year. For a minute there I was thinking there was going to be a season without us represented in the league, but at the last minute, Coach Muffin pulled a team together and here we are, ready to run with the big dogs. I mean, the big birds! I bet, just like in the past, we'll be this amazing team with the most incredible sense of team spirit and sportsmanship. I'm really proud to be playing alongside you, Pearl!

We missed you and the other girls last night. You haven't been to a milonga in a long long time! Last night's milonga will go down in history as a great one. Lots of new friends were there, blind dates all seemed to work out well, and old friends always make an occasion more memorable, too. Kiddo and Taz worked very hard to make the night a success, Kaji and Lizzie had a great buffet done up, and Sam and the band were perfect! All in all, it was a wonderful time. Hope today is a great day for you. It's snowing here again, but that means mom will be here with us today, when she's not packing, that is. Well, yesterday it was 60 degrees when mom left the center, then the wind started. By last night it was in the low 30s, and that seems to be where it is today. I think today is going to be rather low keyed, once mom gets back from the pool. She's going to put away the water colors, clean the basement a little, maybe wash the dog blankets down there, then spend the day with us. It sounds like a great day to me! Hope you are having a good day weatherwise, and get lots of attention today, too. BC is really slow today! Mom had an interesting morning at the center. She was on the squirrel porch again, where there are 4 possums, 3 squirrels, and a kestrel staying right now for the winter. We're not actually sure how long the kestrel will be there, just as long as he needs to be, we think. Then, her second place was in the recovery room, where there are a turtle with a broken shell, a male and female mallard, a brant goose, 3 injured possums, a great horned owl, and a young red tailed hawk. All went well, and mom saved the hawk's cage for last. It's a good thing she did, because the hawk got out and needed to be netted and replaced in her cage. She is apparently there until a few primaries grow in on her wings, so she's in pretty good shape and very feisty. After the center, mom went swimming and increased her laps to 14, which is a little over 1/2 mile. Not bad for an old woman, right?

Wow, I only need 24 more votes so we may be going to a party tonight or tomorrow morning! I think it's gonna be great to join that illustrious group of birds who have achieved 10,000 votes in their time on BC! Well, whatever they did to BC last night to tune it up obviously didn't work. There is no BOTD today and it's running really slow, at least here. Mom got back from her meeting and decided to attend the mammal training on Wednesday night instead of today, so she's here until at least dinnertime. Yesterday the squawkatiels were all over BC, but today it seems safe to send our messages. Thanks for your support, only 62 more votes and I'll be a Hall of Famer, I can't wait! It's gonna be great to join everyone who has already made that milestone number of votes. Today it's raining, but going to turn to snow soon. Mom got her car filled up this morning, then hit the bank and pool while it was still raining. She came home to do our blogs and to stay with us the rest of the day. She has meetings all day tomorrow, starting at 10, so we may be really late getting online, depending on the weather, of course. Wow, less than 100 votes to go! I'm getting excited! Mom made Indian food last night, a nice chicken curry, some kidney beans in sauce, and pav bhaji, a veggie dish. You might think she cooked it, but really, most of it comes from Trader Joe in boilable pouches. The only thing she cooked was the chicken, and even that sauce was from a jar, heehee. The neighbor liked it, though, and there aren't many leftovers, just some rice which we will get, and a small amount of chicken. Today is shopping and errands, saving tomorrow for a swim. Aww, thanks, mom loves going there. The furballs have a vet appointment today, and mom is hoping to get to the pool as well. After shoveling the driveway this morning, though, it's anyone's guess if she will make it to swim. Tonight, she is going with her Vietnamese friend to shop for goodies to take with her for the family. Mom wants to get them something they will like, and Nghi wants to take candy. Wow, only 167 to go! I might make that this week sometime! Mom did the usual birds at the center this morning, then a guy brought in a bat. Mom did the intake and tentatively identified it as a big brown bat, and guess what? She was right! I guess she's learned a thing or 2 up there, eh?
Well, I guess the good news is that we won't have to look at Ray Lewis any more, but mom was bummed out about the Ravens winning. The ads weren't even very good, or maybe mom just wasn't in the mood for them last night. The Puppy Bowl was still fun, though. Just a reminder that tonight is guy's night out at the castle, Page 239094. It starts at 8 eastern time, and goes until the last guy leaves. Food and drink will be provided by castle staff, and it should be fun. Giz and I hope to see all guys there. For the girls, Falco will be organizing a girls night out after mom gets home from Vacation in March. Please share this note with the rest of the flock: Thanks so much for helping me to celebrate my third hatchday. It was my best ever, thanks to all my friends who came to visit. I got a new pinata, a frog prince, a new foot toy, and a special treat of star anise! I love that stuff, but mom doesn't get it too often. I just gobbled it up, and mom said my breath smelled like licorice all day long. I only need 198 votes now, so pretty soon we'll be having another party. Well, Punxsutawney Phil had good news this morning, if you can trust a groundhog's word about an early spring.
It's my hatchday today, so it's a party all day long! Of course, it's usually a party all day with me in the house anyway, heehee. I woke mom this morning, greeting the new day with my loudest calls. Guess I was ready to get the party day started, right? Anyway, there will be cake and ice cream for all of us, all day long, so if you're coming to help me celebrate, bring an appetite.

Wow, thanks everyone, I only need 245 more votes! It's really cold here again! It snowed overnight, but not too much. Mom won't have to shovel, only sweep. No particular plans for today, just a manicure at some point. I think mom and Sara will talk about the upcoming trip, though. Hope you are having a good day and getting lots of scritches. Hi Pearl
It's very warm today, mom worked at the center in a t shirt and jeans. It's raining, too, but that's okay. At least it's not snow. The one squirrel with metabolic bone disease is doing much better now, she is more active and not on calcium supplements daily. The office quails were easy to clean today, as they were off on a job, visiting a classroom. Mom cleaned and put new food and water in there for them when they return. The avian nursery doesn't have any new patients, so it was the same cages mom did on Monday. Hope you are having a good day.
