When the death was discovered, and it might have been up to 3 days, the police were called and had to secure the apartment as a possible crime scene. So Oliver and Lola came to live with me on an emergency basis at about 3:00 a.m..

Glad you were able to stop by the Dragon Cave for some of that superb Hatchday Cake!!! Oh, it was so much fun to have everyone eating and enjoying themselves! There is just nothing better than having Lizzie's food and the company of great friends to celebrate the day that Mom and I met, and I chose her to go home with!

And I did not realize how the dainty gals can eat cake! Holy moley--they are NOT bashful, are they?! Lizzie was so happy to see everyone enjoying themselves!!!

Heya, Ollie! Game tomorrow!
On Wednesday, we have game two of the season against the
Kevlar Keets. Never underestimate the Keets--they are
playing in the stadium that bears their name, and they are
force to be reckoned with!

Of course, both Co-Captain Calico and I know we have a
team that is strong, and coming off our first win--so we
are pretty confident that we can keep things on the
winning side!

Practice will be an hour before the game, so come early.
Get a good night's rest, and eat a great breakfast, too!

Lizzie will be providing snacks for us during the game, as
she does all the time. And afterward we can get together
at the Bar and Grill to kick back and relax!

FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON
Hi fellow Pois, It's Capatin Calico.
Tomorrow, Monday, 12th is the first game of the 2013 Birdie Baseball Season and we're playing the first game, against theC-2 White Hawks.
There will be a pre-game show at 2:30pm eastern time and the game will start at 3:00pm eastern time.
I know we have not had a chance to practice as a team. Kaji and I have been swampped. I'm sure all of you have been practicing on your own and Iknow we'll do a great job. Let's try to make a great showing at the first game of the season.

Whoa do I understand about cage cleanning! Mom bought us a tripledecker that stands one cage on top of the other and its way taller than mom is so she has to stand on a stepstool just to reach Kallies cage to get it clean and the grates are really large! I'm in the middle one and Gabbie was on the bottom. Now that Gabbies cage is empty, that's already been cleanned out she just has our two to do and the tiels cage. And of course our playgyms one of which she is going to take out of our room. We have a small room and it is loaded with all our stuff. I'll wait till your mom gets done for you to come and talk again. Say hello to everyone for me. come visit me again Dixie

Oct 31st… Well, I guess this is it. The moment we have all been waiting for. It’s Halloween night! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I hope none of you got scared by all the little skin kids that came by hoping to get all sorts of candy. Mom gave out prepared bags of goodies to the kids she knows around the neighborhood and then shut the blinds and lights so the few that might come around would not ring the bell and get us upset. We are still getting over all the people who came to see the house. Mom said that was more than enough excitement for us. Before giving you the final chapter of the speedo, I want to take a moment or two or three to thank each and every one of you who has come to my page to vote for me, whether it was every day, almost every day, whenever you could get your parront near the computer, or even if it was only a few times, ALL those votes have added up to a BIG number, and now I am waiting rather impatiently, to find out if the plane is going to be landing in our backyard to take me to the castle at midnight. The excitement is building. Mom says for me to get some sleep. I can’t. My bags are by the door, so I can quietly leave without awakening the others. Okay – enough said. One more day to go from Zak
Oct 30th… and only one more day to go. Many of you have asked me if I have gone crown shopping yet. YES – and I found a gorgeous one and the big guys have already wanted to get at it. It’s mine, all mine I tell them. Mom is helping me to get ahead of things and letting me start on blogs for today now, so that tomorrow, we will be ready to give you the final chapter of the History of the Speedo. But here is the one just before that…
Another collaboration between Speedo and academia netted a line of designer fashions. Teams of students from the London College of Fashion, University College Falmouth and the University of Huddersfield have reused the material to create a complete fashion line including casual slacks, jackets, and even different forms of swimwear. Speedo International president David Robinson said in a press release "we are pleased to see this quality of talent emerging from the universities that have taken part. Speedo is committed to reducing its impact on the environment and as such it is good to see the Speedo LZR Racer live on in these innovative designs”.

Oct 27th… We birds had mom to ourselves for most of the day today. Mom had uploaded a video of herself and me, but it was suggested we redo it because it was too much like a commercial for Speedo, so what happened was someone got word that I was doing the history of the Speedo and mom and he were writing and a few days ago a package arrived for Mom. She is wearing it in the video. It is called *In Flight* but she is not allowed to talk about it in the video – the video has to be about ME. I was not too cooperative because I am not comfortable with hands, but we did the video without the towel getting too many holes chewed in it . Jasper does t-shirts and I do towels. LOL We are so close to the end of the month. I am going to miss blogging all my good friends. Remember – you are welcome at the castle anytime and bring your swim suits. Besides the pool, Lizzie says there is another great place to swim. We’re sure you’ll find us! But now… we’re getting close to the end here. Let’s continue…

The vague decision by swimming's governing body stated that suit materials would need to be textile, rather than polymer-based, but offered no specific deadline for this changeover to occur. The reason for the delay, FINA executive director Cornel Marculescu told the AP, is to give manufacturers enough time "to pass from polyurethane to textiles". The ambiguity continued when FINA was unable to define textile. The most specific aspect of the ruling returned men to bare chests and ladies to bare shoulders. The current rule (GR 5.4), as posted on FINA's website, states "Before any swimwear of new design, construction or material is used in competition, the manufacturer of such swimwear must submit the swimwear to FINA and obtain approval of FINA".

Oct 26th… It was a long day for all of us, but a good one. Mom was up really early and she did our cages fast. She suddenly remembered she had a doctor’s appointment that she thought was tomorrow so she flew out of the house in a hurry, only to be back faster than expected. She will be having surgery on her left hand, something with the hardening of a tendon, as soon as the hospital can get her in. It is painful, and moving her thumb hurts, because it is at the base of her thumb, but that doesn’t stop her from being with us birds. She gave a lot of us free time, and then explained to us that she had to go out for a couple of hours, to a sad event. Of course, to us the sad part was being in our cages while she was out. She was back before we knew it because she did not get caught in rush hour traffic. She went to the viewing for Rolf C Hagen, and she will be going to the funeral on Saturday. There were a lot of people there, but she got to talking to a couple of people she knew, and she met some of the family. They are wonderful people. It was sad… and Saturday is going to be like a royal event, with people coming from all over the world. Mom is sure there will be standing room only. Enough squawking… you want to read about the Speedo…
FINA's ban on the LZR Racer and all "hi-tech" suits came shortly before Michael Phelps's 200 Meter Freestyle loss to Germany's Paul Biedermann at the 2009 FINA World Aquatics Championships in Rome, Italy. Wearing Arena's polyurethane X-Glide suit, Biedermann broke two world records that day and beat Phelps by more than one second. Even though FINA had already approved the ban, it had not been scheduled to go into effect until the following spring. The delay in FINA's hi-tech prohibition and Phelps's unexpected second place finish (his first loss since 2005) led Phelps's coach Bob Bowman to threaten a boycott of international swim competitions. In the first three days of the eight day competition, 15 world records were set.

Oct 24th.... Mom is getting antsy today. Some people had put an offer on the house and there was a lot of counter offering going back and forth. It looks like a final sale is coming close and Mom and Dad are finally going to be moving come the spring. Mom is looking forward to not having to hide the boxes she packs and just moving ahead. And now, what you all have been waiting for… more about the Speedo…
Four years later, the FSII debuted in the Atlanta summer games. While this next stage in swimwear evolution was quickly approved by FINA, it was not without controversy. Speedo competitor TYR developed a similar full body suit with detached sleeves, which the company calls Aqua Bands. Both TYR's detached Aqua bands and Speedo FSII's attached sleeves are designed to essentially "grip" the water on the inner forearm. TYR maintained that essentially the only difference between their suit and Speedo's was whether the sleeves were attached. Despite this, FINA did not approve TYR's armbands. In 2004, 47 medals were won by swimmers wearing Fastskin II

Oct 23rd…It is hard to believe that there is only a week to go and if everything goes well, I will be moving into the castle for a month. Ultimately, the suits were approved for use in the Sydney Olympics and in December 2000 the super-suit earned a place on Popular Science's "100 Best of What's New", alongside the US Navy's F-16 replacement and Kodak's Smart Digital Picture Frame with built-in modem.

Coolest thing ya ever wanted to see. Mom told me there were FIVE mini me's at the show, and they were about 5 months old. IF they were DNA tested, pops was ready to get me a girlfriend. And I got my own playperch, so I don't have to share Squaks when she's not using it. they also meet some BC friends from the Guld Coast, over by Tarpon Springs. Our BC friends from Ohio are on the way back home, and we won't see them again until August, for that Orlando Bird show. It was a very busy week, and we had alot of fun times. Tweet

Oct 20th and 21st… It looks like those Squawk-a-tiels have settled down a bit. We managed to get all previous blogs caught up without too many Squawks getting in the way. Now, today is another day.
By the time the lady bobsledders were given the opportunity to don their Fastskin suits, the line had already gone through several evolutions including the Fastskin FS-II and Fastskin FS-Pro. From the very beginning, these drag reducing suits were met with great resistance. At issue was Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) rule 10.7, which stated "No swimmer shall use any device that may aid his speed, buoyancy, or endurance during a competition (such as webbed gloves, flippers, fins etc). Goggles may be worn". Early in 2000, Speedo hand-delivered their new Fastskin suits to 150 Olympic hopefuls and promised 6,000 more would be made available for Olympic trials. Fearing the possibility of Speedo-clad race winners being stripped of medals due to challenges, the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) asked the Court of Arbitration for Sport to examine the legality of the FINA-sanctioned suits. In May that year, a CAS-appointed arbitrator backed the FINA ruling allowing use of the suits for Olympic tryouts. Australian Olympic Committee president John Coates, however, said in a press conference that their swimmers would be allowed to wear the futuristic neck to ankle covering suits, but would do so "at their own risk". Coates later stated that the ruling he sought was whether the suits should be classified as costumes or devices.

Oct 17th, 18th and 19th… I would have been here yesterday but for some strange reason my fister Jasper somehow managed to get BOTD. I decided to let Mom get her blogging done and now Mom is all mine again. Mom even took a small video of me, which I hope will show up one of these days, with all the squawk-a-tiels that are going around on BC. It is not funny, having to refresh a page 5 times to be able to get a blog on properly. So now we will try and get on with the History of the Speedo, and again thank you very much for your continuing support this month!
Fastskin:
In 2009, British designer and former competitive swimmer Fiona Fairhurst was named as a finalist for European Inventor of the Year. Fairhurst helped Speedo's Aqualab design team invent the first-of-its-kind Fastskin swimsuit. Inspired by the varying skin texture of a shark, Fairhurst told the BBC that she "was looking to develop a fabric that mimics nature". Both the Fastskin and Fastkskin FS II are textured with bumps and ridges in key places, similar to those on a shark's skin. These ridges serve to channel the water over the swimmers body in a more efficient manner than traditional material suits. In addition, the suits are custom designed for the type of stroke the swimmer will use as well as being engineered differently for women and for men. These high-tech suits make use of elastic compression materials to limit muscle oscillation and to compress the swimmer's body, while in other areas a more flexible fabric is used to allow greater range of motion. Leaving no detail overlooked, the design team also uses low-profile seams. According to author Frank Vizard, the Fastskin suits reduce drag by up to four percent. Speedo adapted this new fabric technology for the 2006 Winter Olympics. The full-bodied Fastskin FSII Ice suits were debuted by the silver medal winning American women's bobsled team.

We beat the Macaws for the second time in the series. We held them back for the entire game They were not ahead once. GREAT GAME!

Oct 16th… What a day! Mom dropped us all off at the stadium to watch the baseball game, and what a game it was. Our flock was cheering for the macaws, but we do have 3 of them on the team. Tomorrow is another day. Mom and Dad have a lot of house business going on, with people coming to see it and there are actually offers coming in now, so the fun is starting, with the possibility of a bidding war as of tomorrow. With all that, Gizmo had a night fright last night but after spending most of the rest of the night with Mom (she fell asleep on Mom who did not fall back asleep), she was her usual self come morning.

THE WORLD SERIES STARTS TOMORROW
Hi team!
Captains Kaji and Calico here.
Tomorrow, Oct 17th is the first game of the Birdie Baseball World Series and we're playing in it. What an honor this is! To think that, just a few months ago, we were wondering if we would ever win a game. But, just a few months later, here we are, playing in the World Series. What a comeback we made!

The next 5 days are the most importand 5 days the Pois have ever experienced. They will decide whether or not we will be the World champions. We're betting that we will be THE WORLD CHAMPIONS.

We are playing The Mighty Macaws. Their team name speaks for itself. They are Mighty. So, tonight, get lots of rest. Eat a good dinner and have a light breakfast. We'll see you on the field, bright and early for practice. Calico and I will be silent during the game but we'll be with you, playing just as always.

Oct 14th… It seems we have a busy weekend according to Mom, so she started me on my thank you’s earlier, because people are coming to see the house today and maybe this will be the lucky day. If not, tomorrow is an open house, which means people will be coming and going. In the meantime… Speedo goes digital…
