 My parakeet Forsythia had just passed away and I decided that I didn't want to get another bird from one of the big chain pet stores. I had always wanted a cockatiel so I started to look for a breeder. I finally found one and went to see the babies she had. He stepped up on my finger, begged for a head scratch, and I bought him on the spot.. |

Hi! My name is Skyler
I am a Cockatiel from Winchester, MA, MA.
 Sky Guy, Skyler Rue, Skyler Bird, Sky Lovey
 4 years old  M
 Cockatiel
Apples, water melon, pop corn, corn muffins, the occasional scrambled egg, and any fruits or veggies you can think of!
 On top of my cage, or on my mom's shoulder, or in my downstairs cage where I can keep an eye on everything going on in the house.
 I hat it when the family dogs bark, or are rough housing. I feel it is my job to yell at them and reprimand them by saying, "Bad dog! Stop it! Get down! BAD! Fable! Marley! Stop it!". My mom thinks this is funny, but I'm dead serious whenever I do this.
 She spoils me rotten. She gives me a wonderful, delicious variety of pellets to eat every day along with fresh fruits and veggies everyday. She plays with me and talks to me all the time, and loves to whistle along with me whenever I am in a singing mood. She always gives me head scratches when ever I ask for them. She also lets me sing to my hearts content whenever she practices her violin. I love to sit on her shoulder and whistle and sing along the entire time she plays. I love it! She is a wonderful birdie mom!
 I have a toy stuffed bunny that was my mom's old toy. I'm very attached to it and absolutely need to have it with me all the time. If I don't see it next to my cage I start to call for it by saying, "Bunny, bunny!". My mom thinks this is very funny..

Hi, Skyler,
Hmmm, we've never really even been sick at all and we've been here almost 9 years. Guess the parronts are doing something right. Mom uses those poop-off type wipes that come in a canister to clean the perches and bars - so much easier than that spray with a brush she used before. The food and water dishes get washed every day.
So, how does a bird take medicine? Put into food or drink? How would one know if the bird got enough to get better? (So glad we haven't been sick...)
We don't see people taking birds to the petstores, mostly it's just dogs. It seems bird parronts are well aware of the danger of their birds picking up an unwanted illness from other birds. We travel to the vet once or twice a year and also to grandma's house when the parronts vacation.
Those are big dogs you live with. We are the only pets so no competition for attention in our house! Have a great day.Come visit me, Pearl & Silver.

Glad to hear you are healthy again. It can't be much fun to have to take medicine. (It's good to spread knowledge around so other 'tiel owners have ideas on what might possibly make a bird sick.) Say, what size are these dogs you boss around? Smallish? Stay in the house most of the time types? You seem to talk quite a bit for a 'tiel, we don't talk much, probably 'cause there are 2 of us and we talk to each other in 'tiel talk. Much enjoy reading your exploits. Have a great day. Let's see, we've recently had our yearly birdie checkups and are very healthy. Now we are starting to molt and there's going to be feathers everywhere! Weather is still cool (50's) and it rained a bit too, we did have a couple of warm days (70's and low 80's) last week? Do the dogs obey you at all? The parronts didn't know if we would like baths/showers or not so since it was warm (we joined the family in the early summer) they would lightly mist us with warm water from a water bottle (only for bird use)while we were inside our birdhouse. Later on they would take us into the shower (after one of them used it)so it would still be humid in there and spray us with warm water from the bottle. Eventually one or both of us started opening our wings up and wanted to be drenched. Lately only Silver opens his wings, but Pearl is next to him and gets a little bit wet. It's sunny and warm today. I hope soon you will get some warmer weather. We don't have alot of cold weather here, but this year we did have some very cold days and a little bit of snow. Here in Alabama we don't get much snow, but this winter we have gotten a little bit 2 or 3 times. Lately it has been in the 70s and some 80s lately here. We had rain last night and it is a little cooler here today. Maybe the sun will come out later it's still cloudy I love the sunshine. Hope you have a good day.
