 I got a phone call, asking me if I know how to feed baby birds... and the next thing I knew I had 4 baby Greys to raise. I loved every moment of it. The only reason there are still 3 remaining, is that it was too close to Christmas and I did not want people to get a bird because it was a gift and someone might not really want it. There is still time... they are still young and very sociable. Chole and Little Bit are girls and Leroy, named after Lee-Roial, is the only boy from the clutch. We are celebrating our first hatchdays this month - May 1st, 3rd and 7th.. |

Hello Adorable Greys!
I'm so glad you found me! Mom apologizes that it took so long to get back to you. She got swamped with some work and then was sick for a couple days.
Yes, we have only recently gotten on BC and we love it. Mom can't believe how welcoming and nice everyone is. We are so glad to have found this site.
I (Kahlua) was nominated for BOTD for the 26th of this month. We are still learning how to find all the stuff on this site, so bear with us. I make it especially hard for mom when I eat keys off her computer! LOL
We live in Dutchess County. We are about an hour or so from Long Island. Mom has been to Canada once. She went to Quebec. Her husband at the time was the head mechanic for a race car team so she drove up to watch one of the races there.
We love that you have a sanctuary! Mom's dream is to one day open a bird sanctuary. She always says that's what she'd do if she won the lottery. There aren't many rescue places around here -- at that mom knows of -- except in the city and Long Island, but mom thinks we need one around here.
Many people have moved north from the city to our area and it has grown in population, along with the cost of living. Mom hopes to one day be able to buy us a house again. Right now we live in an apartment. Luckily, they are very well-insulated. We still can't go too crazy, but unless we scream, the neighbors don't hear us. And we are good.
I talk a lot but Tango doesn't. She has noises and sounds for what she wants. She's the cuddle bug. She sticks to mom like glue. She loves to be with her. I do too but I prefer to sit next to Mom. Kahlua has to be on mom! LOL But she also is independent and when she's had enough she will go and play with her toys or whatever. When she wants some hugs and kisses she comes back.
I like watching mommy work on the computer. And I love to watch TV and learn all the songs and jingles. My favorite is P.C. Richards. I got that one down perfectly!
And my favorite show is Judge Judy.

I'm glad I have a new Grey friend. I have a sister, as you see, but she doesn't like to play with me much. That's okay. Mom lets me play with her and I help her work and clean and do all sorts of things.Come visit me, Kahlua & Tango.

Hey Guys
Mom has another book as well, so she'll email your mom about it. Wow, lots of people in Canada looking to place their birds in a rescue? That's too bad! The Animal Rescue League asked mom to foster a little GCC until they found a home, and mom said if the bird's been tested she'd take it, but if not, she wasn't willing to put us at risk. They adopted out the bird before the testing was complete, though.
That was a close game, too bad we couldn't pull off the win! Congrats to the Wonder Wings for a well played game, though. Mom has 2 tours today, but they're widely separated, one at 11:20 and the next at 1:40. That means she won't get home til after 3:15, so we may be late for the game today. I hope we can get outside for awhile, though, because it's gorgeous out there, and mom still has some flowers to plant. She put in a painted fern a couple of days ago. She bought it because she thought one died. When she went to plant this one, the other one was up and thriving! So now we have 2, which is okay with us. Spotlight on Caring-Taz part 6
Hello from SKY. Welcome to part 6 of my interview with Taz and his Mom Gail Sky; Please tell us about Xena and the other birds that make up your flockily. Mom Gail; XENA was the love of my life. She was my soul mate and when she died a part of me died with her, she left a hole in my heart. Don't get me wrong, I love all of my babies very much. Xena was only 18 months old when she died; we got her from the same lady where we got Taz. This can be a very long story so I'll make it short. Xena broke one of her legs but it was just a hairline fracture so she had to live in her aquarium for four months while it healed. She did amazing while living there. We used to live in a townhouse with three levels at that time and we used to go to the bottom level to relax at night and watch TV. Some of the birdies used to live on the second level and some on the bottom level so the birdies that lived on the second level all came down stairs so we were all together. Burt used to pick up Xena's aquarium and bring it down so she could be with the rest of the flock. This hairline fracture healed and Xena was back in her cage and all was going well until she broke the other leg but this was worse and required surgery to put a pin in it, back in the aquarium she went for another four months. She was so good; never once in either instance did she cry from pain or ever try to bite me. I had to give her antibiotics so I used to pulverize the pill and add it to some cantaloupe juice and Xena would happily eat it all up...she loved cantaloupe. After the four months were up, she went back to the vet, he x-rayed her and decided the pin needed to come out as it was starting to cause issues with her walking. I was in the room with her during her recovery time and she never woke up from the surgery! The vet did everything he could to try and resuscitate her but nothing worked. I cried out in such pain and fell to the floor when she didn't come to. I was devastated and I mean devastated beyond belief. They gave Xena's body to me wrapped in a towel and I sat on the floor literary wailing until they came gave me a room to sit in. I sat there and cried and wailed until Burt came to pick me up, they called him as I couldn't drive myself home. It took me a couple of years before she could even think about her without breaking down. I couldn't sleep or eat and lost 40 pounds during the first few months; I told you she took a piece of my heart. Burt didn't know what to do or how to console me as I was inconsolable. Thank goodness that I had my husband and all my babies here to help me though it. I never thought in a million years that I could ever love a little bird so very much.
Sky; next week we shall conclude our interview with Taz and Mom Gail. I trust all have enjoyed this series as much as I have in preparing it.

Wow!
Greyt to hear from you! I heard mom might be looking for some books: we have the Bob Tarte ones, Enslaved by Ducks and Fowl Weather if she's interested. We can mail them.
This morning, mom cleaned and fed animals in a very full mammal nursery: 8 possums, 3 flying squirrels, 1 fox squirrel, 4 red squirrels, 3 chipmunks, and umpteen gray squirrels. There was one surprise there, though, a Chinese 3 toed box turtle! After she got back, she and her sister went to their favorite nursery. Mom bought a lot more than she planned, but it's an annual trip, so she figured she may as well splurge. The hanging baskets are spectacular, we'll have to post some pics for everyone.
