Sophie here. You asked a long time ago about fostering. Sorry for not getting back to you but my fister Punkin (she's a finch) is working her way to become BOTM and she's been hoarding the computer answering blogs and looking up flowers we can eat. LOTS of em. If that's not a photo of you I sure hope your mom will get one up so we can see what a beautiful amazon you are...don't worry if you pluck lots of my best friends do. If you are a lorikeet your mom can change it. No worries.
Anyway, you asked about cages and wanting to foster... Mom did a lot of fostering before she discovered the bird club. Yep, she bought all the cages and everything. After finding the bird club, RAAVE, here and the fact she had a beautiful Indian Ringneck who was a nasty temper with her, she turned Aramina over to RAAVE but got to keep the cage because she was invited to become a foster. We foster mostly small birds because we don't have the room. We do pick up the bigger birds but they usually don't stay more than a week. That's why we call our place a Way Station. hehehe Like a stagecoach station you know.
First see if your mom can find a local bird club...if it isn't in the phone book ask the humane society or even animal control. If there isn't one around let those guys know you can take in birds if they get them in. Just remember to keep new birds away from your flock. If you've a spare room you can use that as a bird room. Keep your own bird in the living area. Don't need to expose yours to nasty bugs. If the bird doesn't come with a cage you'll have to ask the bird club if they have extras. Or look in your local papers/craigslist/put up a notice that you will take birds to find new loving homes but need cages. Make sure everyone knows you are NOT trying to get a bird for nothing but just want to help find a good home where it'll be loved. That's where it's good to let the humane society and animal control know you. If they know what you're doing it's ever so nice. That's where Makana came from.
