  Hi Chloe
Can you believe the last couple days were the hottest of the summer and it's September ? Mom went back to school yesterday and today for meetings - the kids start tomorrow -

I brought some of the peaches that mom picked in the orchard on Sunday and I thought we could make some peach cobbler - do you think your mom will mind ? Maybe she wants to help ?

  what a great night !
There was so much food, so much fun and so many friends ! Couldn't have been better - Kiddo, Taz and SamIAm truly outdid themselves :) Congratulations to all ! As always it was good to see you my dear friend -I'm only sorry we didn't have time to spend together with all the crowds and games !

The parronts are glad they went to the flea market yesterday instead of today - mom found nothing, but always has fun poking around - dad found a movie poster and lots of junk food ! HGTV was there again filming for FLEA MARKET FLIP !

Two days of stormy weather coming up (what a way to end vacation) - but it'll force mom to relax and mentally prepare for back to school. It looks like they'll be a/c days too - 90+ temps for the first time ALL summer ! Perfect for a movie day ! Let's make some popcorn Chloe and pop in RIO 2 :)

I missed you so much !
We had a great vacation ! The only problem is I SOMETIMES get carsick and I was fine on the way up Saturday, but a bit queasy on the way home today. The weather at the lake was poifect ! ! ! I got to hang out on the porch every single day but Tuesday when we had clouds and intermittent rain. Being in farm country all my veges were fresh picked . . . hear that Kiddo ? Fresh picked sugar snap peas ! Yummy in my tummy ! Mom is putting some pictures on my page so everybirdie can see MY spot ! The other night there was a rainbow out around dinner time - I do believe it was my buddy TOOTH saying good-bye - sure made me sad to hear that upon my return :( (miss you buddy - fly high and free)

We were going to stay a couple more days but the forecast was for on and off rain straight through the weekend :( And there is NOTHING to do when that happens ! So here I am ! ! ! And boy did I miss all of you !

Love from a broken hearted over Mr. Tooth - Cookie

Yesterday she went to the farm stand and brought me back lots of yummies ! The owner has an m2, so he understands when she buys only a few beans or pea pods ! Everywhere else they look at her like she a crazy lady - har har - little do they know !

What do you say if we ask your mom to take us for a ride around your yard on her chair - then maybe your dad will set up the slip-n-slide for us ! ! ! Wooo Hooo, two best friends enjoying a summer day together !

  Hi Chloe
King Pepper here, with a special message to all my loyal bird subjects. After being picked up and brought to the castle in a way I still do not fully recollect, I woke up realizing I am Bird of the Month, a King, and I surely could not have done this alone. I could only vote for myself once a day, but TiPaul usually beat me to that too. And so this message – I want to thank each and every one of you… Angel & Pepper, Baby, Bilou, Cheyenne, Chico, Chipper, Chloe, Chuey, Chyna, Cookie, Cori & Boo Boo, Dino, Dixie, Falco, Finnegan, Grendel, Gus, Hulk, Indiana Sam, Ipo, Jolie, Jetta, Kaji, Kahlua, Kiddo, Lalo & Ziggy, Little Angel & Sky, Mango (Sunshine’s flock), Mango(Green’s flock), Mango (Lola’s flock), Mayo, Mikey, Miranda & CuBird, Molly, Ms BB, Norman, Oz, Panther, Pearl & Silver, Picabo, Pico & Poco, Pimer, Poirot, Polly & Zippy, Pookie, Popeye, Raffi, RoofTop, Sam, SamIAm, Snowy, Spot, Squak, Sugar, SweetPepper & Kacey, Tooth and Sebastian & finches for coming by and voting for me, whether it was every day… with a blog, without a blog… once in a while. They all added up and I made it to the castle, actually to the BC castle and to Ms. BB’s castle and it is only the second evening and I have been having the time of my life. I thought I had fun training Mom. Heh heh heh – this is going to be more fun than I ever imagined in my entire life. I have had friends stop by to visit and congratulate me and I cannot begin to thank you all enough for that too. I just don’t know where to begin. With the Canada Day party celebration yesterday, I was pretty tired, and I asked my frother to introduce me to his special friend Lizzie, who I know to be the bestest cook ever. Now food is something this bird has a taste for. That table that is at the castle is something I would like to have at home, for days when each of our flock wants something different to eat and Mom finds that so totally wrong. It is the best thing I have come across so far, and I have only just begun my journey. I will do my best to post my diary on my page every couple of days, for those of you who want to know what I have been up to.

Come visit me, Leroy, Little Bit & Chloe - Thank you everybirdy!!, Gizmo - Thanks everybirdy for BOTD!, Max, Jasper - Thanks everybirdy for BOTD!, Micky - Thanks everybirdy for BOTD!, PEPPER-Thanks for BOTM!, TiPaul - Who was 8000???   Hi Chloe - I understand Moms get busy
Saint Jean Baptiste Day, held annually on June 24, is the feast day of St John the Baptist, a Jewish preacher who baptized Jesus in the River Jordan. It is a day of celebration in Quebec and other areas of French Canada. Saint Jean Baptiste Day is also known as "la Saint-Jean", "St John the Baptist Day", "Fête nationale du Québec" and "Quebec's National Holiday". Various events are organized on Saint Jean Baptiste Day. These range from large scale public celebrations, such as rock and jazz concerts, sports tournaments, parades and firework displays, to small family or neighborhood happenings, such as yard sales, picnics, barbecues, bonfires and children's entertainment. Many church bells ring in celebration and public dances and fun fairs are held. Some events may be held on the evening of June 23 and many are broadcast live on television, radio or on the Internet. The celebrations are coordinated by the Mouvement national des Québécoises et des Québécois. Saint Jean Baptiste Day is a public holiday in the Canadian province of Quebec. Post offices and many stores are closed.
The poster Mom took a picture of is from our village. Because of the rain, all of the activities were held indoors, but Mom came home and helped me put together this blog. The parade was very small, there again because of the rain. There were only a few cars following, unlike past years, and she did not partake in that activity. Spoil sport Mom. Everyone met back at the Community Center, where the Mayor spoke… and then there was the annual hotdog dinner, along with veggies. They had so many veggie platters, Mom was hoping to be able to bring some home for us but they went fast. For dessert, they had fruit platters and Mom had eaten so much of the other stuff, she packed a fruit plate high and took it home. She went out the back door, because she had to come home to feed us. She headed back after we were settled in and eating because there was a show – a history presentation on Samuel de Champlain. She took a picture of him, which is on my page along with the other pictures, and she was thinking afterwards she should have had someone take a picture of her with him, and tell them she went back in time. LOL After that, there was live music and lots of dancing for a couple of hours, and then, the grand finale – fireworks in the rain.

  Hi Chloe
I had a request for a Pirate Ship Adventure – LET’S DO IT! Tomorrow morning 6AM EDT we set sail… every birdy is welcome. We have to be back in Montreal the following day so I can continue my campaign. I have never sailed before so I am counting on you all to take care of things. I got a hold of a ship I think is more than adequate in size…
"What river is this?" asked Jacques Cartier of his Indian guide as he looked on the St. Lawrence.
"A river without end," the Indian replied. And so it seems, as this cruise explores the staggering variety of one of the world's great rivers.
Along its course you'll experience the numerous attractions and extraordinary scenery of the Upper St. Lawrence. Quebec City, Canada's showpiece, provides the venue for the beginning or end of your cruise.
Here you can experience the world charm and grace of "Old" Europe. You will encounter Quebec City's unparalleled joie de vivre (love of life) found nowhere else in North America. Enjoy Old Quebec (the only walled city in North America) with its massive ramparts still bolstering the Plains of Abraham; and behold the imperial green-roofed towers of the legendary Chateau Frontenac. En route you will discover the magic of the Thousand Islands, the deep historical roots of "Loyalist Brockville" and the unique living community of Upper Canada Village. Between Montreal and Quebec City there are the "grassy Battures", rich mudflat home to myriad species of birds. You will pass the "Segnieury" areas, the prominent village cathedrals of Quebec, and witness the awesome cliffs stretching up to the historic Plains of Abraham.

  Hi Chloe
Montreal's Underground City (officially RÉSO or La Ville Souterraine in French) is the set of interconnected complexes (both above and below ground) in and around Downtown Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is also known as the indoor city (ville intérieure) and is one of the largest underground complexes in the world. Not all portions of the indoor city are underground. The connections are considered tunnels architecturally and technically but are air conditioned and have lighting as good as any building's liveable space does. Many tunnels are large enough to have shops on both sides of the passage. With over 32 km (20 mi) of tunnels spread over more than 12 km2 (4.6 sq mi), connected areas include shopping malls, apartment buildings, hotels, condominiums, banks, offices, museums, universities, seven metro stations, two commuter train stations, a regional bus terminal and the Bell Centre amphitheatre and arena. There are more than 120 exterior access points to the underground city. Each access point is an entry point to one of 60 residential or commercial complexes comprising 3.6 km2 (1.4 sq mi) of floor space, including 80% of all office space and 35% of all commercial space in downtown Montreal. In winter, some 500,000 people use the underground city every day. The vision for the underground city was originally that of urbanist Vincent Ponte, for whom a commemorative plaque was unveiled in November 2006 at Place Ville-Marie. The first link of the underground city arose with the construction of the Place Ville-Marie office tower and underground shopping mall, built in 1962 to cover an unsightly pit of railway tracks north of the Central Station. A tunnel linked it to Central Station and the Queen Elizabeth Hotel. The advent of the Montreal metro in 1966 brought tunnels joining Bonaventure station to the Château Champlain hotel, the Place du Canada office tower, Place Bonaventure, Central Station, and Windsor Station, forming the core of the Underground City. Square-Victoria station connected to the Tour de la Bourse, Montreal's stock exchange building. Adding to the development of the underground city was the Montreal Urban Community Transit Commission's policy of offering the aerial rights above metro station entrances for construction through emphyteutic leases, an advantageous way to acquire prime real estate.

  Part 2
When the metro began running in 1966, ten buildings were already connected directly to metro stations; development would continue until only three free-standing station entrances (Square-Victoria, St-Laurent and Place-des-Arts) remained in the central segment. In 1974, the Complexe Desjardins office tower complex was constructed, spurring the construction of a "second downtown" underground city segment between Place-des-Arts and Place-d'Armes station, via Place des Arts, Complexe Desjardins, the Complexe Guy Favreau federal government building, and the Palais des Congrès (convention centre). Between 1984 and 1992, the underground city expanded, with the construction of three major linked shopping centres in the Peel and McGill metro station areas: Cours Mont-Royal, Place Montréal-Trust, and the Promenades Cathédrale (built underneath Christ Church Cathedral). McGill station was already linked with The Bay, Eaton's (now the Complexe Les Ailes), Centre Eaton, and two other office/mall complexes. Between 1984 and 1989, the underground city grew from 12 km (7 mi) of passages to almost 22 km (14 mi). Mega-projects added to the size throughout the 1990s, including Le 1000 De La Gauchetière (the tallest building in Montreal), Le 1250 René-Lévesque, and the Montreal World Trade Centre. Although these buildings have only a secondary commercial sector, they use their connection to the underground city as a selling point for their office space. Also, the construction of a tunnel between Eaton Centre and Place Ville-Marie consolidated the two central halves of the underground city. The construction of the Bell (originally Molson) Centre connected Lucien-L'Allier metro station to the underground city, as well as replacing Windsor Station with the new Gare Lucien-L'Allier commuter train station. Finally, in 2003, the complete redevelopment of the Quartier international de Montréal consolidated several segments of the central underground city with continuous pedestrian corridors. The construction of the ICAO headquarters joined Place Bonaventure to Square-Victoria station, which in turn was joined to the Palais des Congrès and Place-d'Armes station via the new Caisse de dépôt et de placement building and a tunnel under Place Jean-Paul Riopelle. Uniquely, the new tunnel sections in the Quartier International contain educational and artistic displays sponsored by major Montreal museums. As a result of this construction, one can now walk all the way across the centre of downtown, from the UQAM Sherbrooke Pavilion at the corner of Sainte Famille Street and Sherbrooke Street to the Lucien-L'Allier metro station just south-west of the Bell Centre, without going outside — a span of 1.7 km (1.1 mi) as the crow flies, or approximately 3 kilometres (2 mi) walking distance.

  Hi Chloe
The Montréal Botanical Garden, one of the city’s jewels, is recognized as one of the world’s greatest botanical gardens. It offers a colourful program of events, exhibitions and activities all year long.
With its collection of 22,000 plant species and cultivars, 10 exhibition greenhouses, Frédéric Back Tree House, and more than 20 thematic gardens spread out over 75 hectares, it’s also a perfect place to enjoy fresh air and natural beauty.
Located just minutes from downtown Montréal, right near the Biodôme and Olympic Park, the Montréal Botanical Garden is a veritable living museum of plants from the four corners of the globe.

There was talk of creating a large botanical garden in Montréal in the mid-19th century, but it wasn’t until the 1920s when the idea took hold in the mind of a young botany teacher, Brother Marie-Victorin.
Despite the Great Depression, municipal elections and the Second World War, the project managed to take root and develop, nourished by the passion of Brother Marie-Victorin and the man who would become the Garden’s chief horticulturalist, Henry Teuscher. Their work took shape over the years with the official founding of the Garden (1931), design of the administration building and reception gardens (1936 to 1939) and construction of the exhibition greenhouses (which opened in 1956).
With the help of economic conditions and a growing interest in the environment, the Botanical Garden really began to come into its own in the 1970s. It began its research activities, and the success of the Floralies international flower show in 1980 opened the Garden up to the world. Many impressive achievements took place in these years: the renovation of the greenhouses, new facilities, increased collaboration with the Université de Montréal, the creation of societies and social clubs and the development of an ornamental horticulture professional training program.
During this period, the Botanical Garden rose to the rank it enjoys today among the world’s great gardens, thanks to a number of major projects: the Arboretum, the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden, the Insectarium and the Chinese Garden. Since then, development has not slowed down, as evidenced by the new Reception Centre, the Molson Hospitality Greenhouse, the Frédéric Back Tree House and the First Nations Garden, all of which opened after 1995.
One can explore the beauty of the Garden through its 10 greenhouses and some thirty thematic gardens! I have posted several pictures on my page which you are welcome to come and look at.

Associated with the Montréal Botanical Garden, the Insectarium welcomes you to discover the world of insects. We will visit there another day…

Today we are visiting the Museum of Fine Arts
TiPaul reminds everybirdy to take a look at the artwork on Pepper’s page. There is some from different exhibitions and special shows that have might only have been temporary.
The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts has one of the highest attendance rates among Canadian museums. Every year, over 1 million people visit its unique encyclopedic and its original temporary exhibitions, which combine artistic disciplines (fine arts, music, film, fashion, design) and feature innovative exhibition designs. It conceives, produces and circulates many of its exhibitions across Europe and North America.
Over 200,000 families and schoolchildren take part in its educational, cultural and community-oriented programmes each year. The fall of 2011 saw the opening of a fourth pavilion at the Museum – the Claire and Marc Bourgie Pavilion of Quebec and Canadian Art – and a 444-seat concert venue – Bourgie Hall – housing an outstanding collection of Tiffany stained glass windows. This expansion also brought about the reinstallation of the Museum’s rich holdings in its other three pavilions, which house the world cultures, international art, Medieval to contemporary European art, and decorative art and design collections. Music is now an integral part of the Museum, providing another perspective on the visual arts, through musical audioguides and other innovative activities.
The Studios Art & Education Michel de la Chenelière, which were inaugurated in 2012, have almost doubled the Museum’s facilities for schools, families and community groups. A fifth pavilion devoted to international art and education will open its doors in 2017 for Montreal’s 375th anniversary.

  Hi Chloe...thanks for your support!
French: mont Royal, is a hill in the city of Montreal, immediately west of downtown Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the city to which it gave its name. The hill is part of the Monteregian Hills situated between the Laurentians and the Appalachians. The hill consists of three peaks: Colline de la Croix, Colline d'Outremont, and Westmount Summit. It is often called a mountain, as there are no actual mountains in the Montéregie region. Some tourist guidebooks state that Mount Royal is an extinct volcano. The mountain is not a traditional volcano as such. However, it is the deep extension of a vastly eroded ancient volcanic complex, which was probably active about 125 million years ago. The mineral montroyalite, discovered in Montréal, is named after the mountain that provided the definition sample. The first European to scale the mountain was Jacques Cartier, guided there in 1535 by the people of the village of Hochelega. He named it in honour of his patron, King François I of France. He wrote in his journal: ("And among these fields is situated and seated the said town of Hochelaga, near to and adjoining a mountain ... We named this mountain, Mount Royal.")The first Mount Royal Cross was placed there in 1643 by Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve, the founder of the city, in fulfillment of a vow he made to the Virgin Mary when praying to her to stop a disastrous flood. Today, the mountain is crowned by a 31.4 m (103 ft)-high illuminated cross, installed in 1924 by the Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste and now owned by the city. It was converted to fibre-optic light in 1992, and then to LEDs in 2009. The cross is usually lit in white, but can now be changed to any colour, including the purple traditionally used upon the death of a Pope. Beside the cross, a plaque marks the placement of a time capsule in 1992, during Montréal's 350th birthday celebration. It contains messages and drawings from 12,000 children, depicting their visions for the city in the year 2142, when the capsule is scheduled to be opened.

  Part 2
The mountain is the site of Mount Royal Park , one of Montreal's largest greenspaces. The park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, who also co-designed New York's Central Park, and inaugurated in 1876, although not completed to his design. The park contains two belvederes, the more prominent of which is the Kondiaronk Belvedere, a semicircular plaza with a chalet, overlooking downtown Montreal. Built in 1906, it is named for the Petun chief Kondiaronk, whose influence led to a major peace accord between the French, Iroquois and other Indian tribes in 1701. Other features of the park are Beaver Lake, a small man-made lake; a short ski slope; cross-country skiing trails; a sculpture garden; and Smith House, an interpretive centre. At the foot of the hill, overlooking Park Avenue, the park features George-Étienne Cartier Monument, home to the Tam Tams, and a gazebo which has been recently named in honour of Mordecai Richler. The lush forest was badly damaged both by mayor Drapeau’s morality cuts of the mid-1950s and by the Ice Storm of 1998, but has since largely recovered. The forest is a green jewel rising above downtown Montreal, and is known for its beautiful autumn foliage as well as extensive hiking and cross-country ski trails. Biking is restricted to the main gravel roads. The park, cemeteries, and several adjacent parks and institutions have been combined in the Mount Royal The park, cemeteries, and several adjacent parks and institutions have been combined in the Mount Royal Natural and Historical District by the government of Québec, in order to legally protect the rich cultural and natural heritage of this region. It is the only place in Québec to have the combined status of a Natural and Historical District. There is much more I could tell you about the park, the peak of the mountain, the winter activities, but I don’t want to bore you. This is only one of the fascinating sites to visit if you come to Montreal.

  Please vote me for BOTM!
Hello, I am Pepper, African Grey from the Quebec Flock. I, like most Greys, am quite intelligent and I often put together words to make sentences that surprise Mom to no end. Many of you met me when I got bitten some time ago – when I broke open that lock. Well, that one went in the garbage, and so did another one that I managed to beak open. Mom buys a different brand now.
I am running for BOTM this month, something my frother TiPaul encouraged me to do. While he is flying around voting for his friends to get in the 10K club, he said he will fly farther out of his range to help me get more votes. Thanks fro!
I had a difficult time coming up with a subject that might interest you all. Every birdy has been writing such fascinating things. Then it occurred to me – there are so few flocks from Canada, and just our flock is from Quebec. I am going to take you on a tour of our home city, Montreal… Please come to my page to take a look at the pictures at the bottom for pictures I have posted, and will post every day. Thank you in advance for your support!

  Hi Chloe♥
We have a fun rainbow team here, there's Divo and me, of course, but also Bailey, Gabbie, Coach Duty, Coach Muffin, and lots and lots of other birdies who just love to play. All of the teams are mixed species, but it just makes the games more exciting that way. Some of the little guys are incredibly fast! You should see Chichi go! I love that we can play here, even thought there's no Beak or Talon League on BC this year. Hope you and mom are enjoying the summer. I miss you, my dear girl. Hugs and heavenly kisses, Giz♥

Come visit me, Gizmo, I miss you, sweet boy, Willie, Kaji, TiPaul, and Sky for 10k!, Peppino, Divo & Falco, thanks for the prayers, I'm doing okay.

Cookie and Chloe sneak about the back yard
looking for signs of the babies . . . but they get distracted by some pretty butterflies and go off chasing them :)

It's a beautiful day and they're hoping mama Gail and papa Burt are home in time to have a cookout - some corn on the cob would really hit the spot !

Cookie is especially happy to be visiting with his bbf Chloe since not only does mama Mary have school work to do, she's got one of those miserable summertime colds :(

  Oh Chloe
let's go out with mama Gail today and see the baby robins and the squirrel . . . they promise her they'll be really good and try very hard to be quiet so they don't frighten any babies . . .

It's Thursday already and that means just another day till the long Memorial Day weekend ! It also means, weather permitting, mom and dad will head to the flea market one day and to g'parronts for a cook out on Monday . . . hmmmm, what about me ? I'll be here keeping a watch on all goings on in the back - hopefully it'll be a nice one.

Meanwhile (back at the ranch):

Right now it's RAINING ! It woke mom up during the night and then put her right back to sleep. Thursday is the day she has recess duty - and she hates indoor recess !

Be good today :) And if you haven't gotten over to play Name That Tune (page 231616) you'll be GREEN with envy when somebirdie else wins the jukebox ! Love Cookie

  Cookie and Chloe
sit out on mama Gail's chair with her - one of them has the binoculars and the other the camera - they're hoping to catch the baby robins in action . . .

Then maybe later they'll head to Cookie's house and help his mom put flowers in the planters on the back deck . . . it's so late this year and it looks so drab out there :(
