I enjoyed the Preakness but wanted to see a Triple Crown. Rosie told what happened to her. She followed Orb (like she did in the KY Derby) but the dirt was deep so she moved to the outside and took a little longer path but made it a close 3rd. She could have been second. If you watch the race again, you'll see Orb put the brakes on. He doesn't like the rail and the first post position. He likes the crowd on the outside. So, he decided he had enough. Wonder who's running in the Belmont?
Sorry about your bike hope it doesn't cost much.
Yes, I've been practicing with Chica and sometimes with Athena and RaneBeau. We go to each others house as the team has no practice.
Today was sunny and a warm 80 degrees … FINALLY! I had a wonderful day. We had lunch and dinner on the patio. I was able to go outside several times too. The next two days will be severe t-storms and the temps will go down to 62 degrees. Was that summer today?????

Hey Scoober!
Tomorrow's the day! We're about to get to play our first game of ball for the season and I, for one, can hardly wait. I was ready way back in April so it's been a long wait for me. I so hope it's an exciting game, not one of those where one team's trouncin' the other from the get-go. I'd feel bad for doing that to the Fliers.

We should do well if we keep our heads on straight! Our bird club meeting went really well and after Arthur settled down, he did okay also! He did a lot of growling, barking, and wolf whistles, crazy bird! My Raiders play their first game tomorrow, and I am cautiously optimistic about our chances! Win or lose, we shall use this game as a learning experience and build from it! Have a great Sunday Family day, and give my love to all in your home, see ya tomorrow...

well, Rosie came in 3rd but missed 2nd by only a head. Orb, was 6 or 7 lengths behind Rosie (Mylute) and he came in 4th. So, I think Rosie did really good.
Today was the Preakness Stakes. The winner was OXBOW. The KY Derby winner, ORB came in 4th. So, no Triple Crown again this year.
We had a rainy chilly day again. Sunday is suppose to be 80 and sunny. I hope so! Then two days of severe t-storms, then just rain and back down to 62 degrees. HEY! Where is our good weather? I’m still waiting!

We never heard of wave pansy before either, so thought we'd try it. It's nice and full.
Oh, Sam's mom had to go help her mom and sister with appointments, helping around the house etc. She will be gone until the end of the month ... maybe. I know that Sam would rather be with his mom. They are missed. She also doesn't have the net just her cell phone.
Today was really too chilly to go outside. mom said it was jacket weather. We are suppose to get a severe storm on Monday, maybe a tornado. The whole state will be under attack. This is when I hope the weather guy is wrong!

Hello Scooby~
I hope you are having a wonderful day. I've got the gardeners here to watch. They are outside my window mowing the lawns! Pretty soon Mandy will be woofing to go out just because she likes to smell the fresh cut grass! Mom takes her for a walk everyday and Mandy has decided she likes to walk down to the Starbucks. Do you suppose it's the scones they sell? I always share my scones with her so maybe she figured she just go down there and get us some! I like the way she thinks!!
Mom already went to the market before I even got up! The store is open 24 hours a day. It's less crowded early in the mornings but mom has to put up with freight on the floor and the floor scrubber being used. Since she works nights at a store, she is use to that stuff.
She got me some pecans so I'm looking forward to my snack! I'll be having apples and pecans today! Yum!
I'll be supervising the chores later on and letting mom know how she should do stuff! We all know our parronts would be lost without us!!

I know how you feel. I was missing Sam & the band too. At least we had the recorded music piped in. He won't be back for a few weeks.
I have been enjoying my stroller for a couple of days. Today was a bit chilly but, Friday is suppose to be really nice and maybe 72 degrees!!! I told mom she better have time to take me out.
That hanging basket on my page is a wave pansie. Mom has never heard of a wave one before. I guess they can do that with any flower?

I'm so happy that you like my new pic. Mom likes it too. It took about 5 tries before I stayed still for a second ... hehehehe. Yes, coach was very busy on Sunday working on the opening. Sunday night, she asked me to sing at the game, I hope it was ok. I'm use to Sam handing the music. But, Sam is out of town. OK, I'll go throw some balls to Chica.
Oh, my mom loves getting Pedi's ... she hasn't gone in a long time either. I bet she goes before the weekend downstate.
We had a warm and sunny day today. I was out in my stroller with mom. She put some pics on my page. I had a good time out there.

Mom took a new pic of me today and put in on my page. She was thinking that my b-ball pic would be ready. I'm kind of bummed out that we are the only team without pics. I don't have a schedule either. After today, doing badly and no uniform and practicing by myself, I don't care if I have to sit on the bench the rest of the season. My frother Bailey had the best team ever! They were a close knit group.
Tell Jewels that she has to look forward to next year. That was an amazing job she did to stay on her horse ... good ride!
Can't wait to see the flowers. I almost went out today but it was too chilly. The next 2 days might be 70 degrees if we are lucky.

Time to put up our b-ball pics. I have yours on my page. I don't have one yet and my first game is on Tuesday afternoon. Well, I put up my name on the page anyway.
I know what you mean, it's so hard to chat when you are working the Milonga or baseball. I found out last night that I was helping the game today. I have to practice 3 songs late last night. But, I managed to run back and forth from the booth with Jake to sitting with you Falco & Squeaky. That was a good first game, don't you think?
I can't wait to see your beautiful yard. It's hard to have a nice one here in the woods. The animals like to eat it!
I'm so happy that everyone had a good time at the derby. I was worried when I saw the horses bump and Jewels and Cori went flying. That sure was a nail bitter and boy did they ever recover good!!! I hope those two ride again next year. Oh yes, Chloe & Giz looked so great in their derby hats.

...it is opening day for our beloved BC baseball, I think everybirdie is as anxious as I am! Today the Hawks and Da Pois kick the season off, and both are good teams, they will jump start the show with fire and determination! Many of us will be looking forward to seeing the Hello Kitty lunch box walk into the stands, with her owner, Ms Sugar, the number one baseball fan on BC! One downside of getting to know so many wonderful people and birds on BC, is while we share their happiness, we also share the heart breaking sadness's, anybody capable of love, knows what I am talking about! I'm so happy that you thought the race was good. You know how I worry. I couldn't do it my love if you weren't next to me. But, I do see how when you load stuff for 45 minutes, you don't get to socialize.
What do you call a pole barn? In MI we call the metal ones by that name. That's what the people who build them call it.
Hope everyone had a lovely Sunday. I gave my mom extra kisses today. We had another morning of snow and high winds with a temp of 34 degrees. I guess those 4 days was our spring/summer and we are back to winter (hope not)!

I hope everyone had fun tonight, I did. It was wonderful having you in the booth with me. I enjoyed the mint juleps and the yummy food too.
Now we have to get ready for b-ball. Time to put up the pics. I'm still waiting for mine. Maybe we won't have one this year.
Oh, a pole barn is a metal barn. They put up poles and attach metal to it (or something like that).
What a surprise we had today! Not only is it cold (low 30’s) but we had snow all afternoon. Thank goodness it didn’t stay on the ground. But, my parronts had to bring in the 3 outside plants they just bought. Our star magnolia is pretty much gone now, thanks to the weather. Have a warm and cozy night.

So happy you like the close-up pic of me. Wish I had that for the contest. Can't wait to see your yard. That sounds really pretty to me. My parronts came home with a plant today. But, they are putting it on the patio during the day and in the house at night, until it can be planted outside. My dad put in a big order for lumber etc. He is building a huge workroom in the pole barn. That will be a huge project. He is also having the barn re-roof soon. That will keep him pretty busy.
It was really dark and gloomy today with the rain. The next couple of days will be in the 40’s and the low 30’s at night. We’re getting lots of rain, thank goodness it’s NOT snow!
Today, I was very chatty. I guess I had a lot to say …LOL!

Aunt Denise fixed my hat contest pic today. She made me closer up. I think it shows up my pretty hat really good.
Yes, mom and I feed the chipmunk some peanuts. I kept my eye on her. She was pretty cute. Today, I went out in my Wingabago and sat on the umbrella table with mom. It was another beautiful day (weather guy was wrong). But, around 5pm, it got really cold and rainy. we will be going back down to lower 40's. I'm just glad that ity isn't snow!!! This is why we can't have pretty flowers until the end of May. I know your yard will be beautiful. Need to post some pics of the pretty flowers.

Sounds like the yard is going to be spectacular! I hope you post a few pictures when it's done. I would just love to see it!
I can't believe that you are in the 90's already! There is a commercial over here about a guy looking for spring and the lost and found sends him over to your side of the mountain!!hehehehehehe We've gone back to cold and foggy in the mornings but since that is normal, I'm okay with it. I still get sunshine later on in the day.
Are you getting to watch the activity out there? I got to watch some guys check out all the drains in the parking lot and then fill in the asphalt around them. It was interesting!
I hope your mom and dad are doing well!
Enjoy the day and I hope those geranium make it. They are usually pretty hardy!!

Oh, I bet your yard is just beautiful! We can't start working on ours until Memorial weekend. IT's really not safe from frost until then. We had another nice sunny and warm day today. I helped mom feed a chipmunk today. She was very cute and boy could she stuff her cheeks full of nuts! Tomorrow, the rain is suppose to start and the temps will drop down to the 50’s. It should be cold thru Sunday. At least the patio is ready for us to enjoy. Looking forward to lunch out there soon.

We don't have any birds in our one (so far) flower pot but, a bat is hanging on the side of our house. We have 3 large bat houses, guess he didn't like the others!

We tied with Phoenix yesterday as the warmest cities in the US! COOL! That is a first for my side of the mountain!! I can also just about guarantee it will be the only time this happens! Usually our weather records tend to be for the wetest place in the US! Today it is back to what May usually looks like over here! We are back to flannel shirt weather!

I'm back! I'm trying to get caught up late tonight. Mom picked Revolutionary (came in 3rd) and Verrazano and for the Oaks - Beholder (came in 2nd) and Unlimited Budget (came in 3rd). I guess that's not too bad. like we said, there are so many horses in the derby that if you get caught in traffic, you are doomed ...poor Verrazano.
Here it is Sunday night and we are all so tired. It was a big weekend for us. Some of our company came on Friday for the Kentucky Oaks. Then the rest joined us on Saturday for the Kentucky Derby party. We enjoyed being with our friends and everyone had a great time. A couple of mom’s horses did pretty good. For the KY Oaks, one of her horses came in second (Beholder) and for the KY Derby, one came in third (Revolutionary). Better luck next year! Our weather for Friday, Saturday and Sunday was beautiful. I hope it stays that way. Don’t forget the Milonga Derby is on May 11th (Bailey’s hatchday).

Well, mom has placed 2 bets on the derby, for real (first time). I hope we win something.
Our house is all decorated for Oaks & Derby. The guests will be here on Friday afternoon. I can't wait to see my Aunt Gail.
Today was a cool 65 degrees but, we had sun. No t-storm today, so far!

Oh, we are so very tired too. Have derby company coming for Friday/Saturday. Trying to get everything done. Did you watch the post position pick? We did.
I'm liking Verrazano, Revolutionary, Goldencents, Orb.
My two other picks are Mylute and Palace Malice. I make my final decision after I see them on derby day. I check out how they are acting and the look in their eyes.
We had a sunny warm day of 73 ..loved it.

Morning Scoober, we got practice today-Coach Jenny
...today I am calling our last pre-season practice and workout before opening day! We are a good team, but there are a lot of good teams this year, and the only way we can get a step up on them, is to practice hard! We all need it, myself included! It was kind of busy this time for the contest. We will have to have some rules next year.
I have one more derby blog after this one. Things will be back to normal soon.
Today was only 55 and rainy. Dad still went golfing - he has waited so long for this. I hope that Fri/Sat is no rain. It's better than snow but not at derby time.
Yes. you will have to tape the race. If you have time on Wednesday May 1st, watch the post position pick at Churchill Downs. That will show you how it's done. It's on NBCSN at 5-6 pm EDT. Have a wonderful night my sweet.
DAY 29
Famous Fillies of our time:
Rachel Alexandra won the Kentucky Oaks by 10 and 1/4 lengths in 2009. She came back two weeks later to win the Preakness Stakes beating the best boys of her generation. Three months later, she went on to beat the older males in the Woodward Stakes at Saratoga Race Course NY, a feat no filly had ever achieved in the 56 runnings of that race. She raced only 5 more times, earning two more wins and three second place finishes. Then she retired as a broodmare in 2010. She will be remembered as one of the best fillies of all time.
Zenyatta will be remembered as one of the best horses of all times. Her wins included the 2008 Ladies Breeder’s Cup Classic and the 2009 Breeder’s Cup Classic (beating all the boys, a feat unheard of) with winning jockey Mike Smith. The latter race will forever be remembered by all who witnessed it. She always dropped far back in the early stages of a race and then made a late charge, passing all of her rivals through the stretch. With enormous strides and being a powerful great athlete, she turned the impossible into reality. She filled the crowds with awe and reverence. Her only defeat came on her 20th race. The 2010 Breeder’s Cup Classic (again with the boys), she waited just a minute too long to make her move and lost by a nose. She has retired and now is a mom. Zenyatta will always be remembered as a crowd pleaser. She always did a dance and kept an eye on her fans before the races. She loved her fans.

I hope you are enjoying the day! It's windy here and I'm watching the clouds roll by rather quickly! It's a fun way to pass the time! Is it still windy on your side of the mountain??
I'm listening to a bird outside that keeps tweeting the same thing over and over. Mom asked me if I knew what he was saying but I don't have a clue!hahahahaha
When I lived in California I use to call out to the wild amazons down there and they never answered me either! I think I speak a different dialect than the other zons!
Mom and I played for a long time this moring. It was lots of fun and now I'm having my apple. We are still working on re-cleaning closets so we can fit the stuff from the storage room in them. Who knew there was so much stuff in that little room!!!

Introduction into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of fame of clearly the highest level of achievement and recognition in Thoroughbred racing but it is an honor, not an award. In Thoroughbred horse racing there is only one award that really matters: the Eclipse Award. This award is racing’s equivalent to the Academy Award (Oscar). As with other prestigious awards, there are many categories for the Eclipse: owners, breeder, trainer, jockey, apprentice jockey, and Horse of the Year etc.

PLEASE NOTE: Horses are racing at 40 MPH.
The most important prep races, in both readying a horse for the Kentucky Derby and in determining who the favorites will be, take place three to six week in advance. There are 26 of these races. Three of the most popular are:
Florida Derby, Gulfstream Park, Hallandale FL
Santa Anita Derby, Santa Anita, Arcadia CA
Wood Memorial Stakes, Aqueduct, Jamaica NY
The Blood Horse magazine is a good reading choice for information to determine your winning pick.
This years (2013) winners are: Verrazano (Wood Memorial), Goldencents (Santa Anita), and Orb (Florida Derby).
