The continuing Adventures of Little Angel
Hi every one, Little Angel here, with "THE REST OF THE STORY" Happy Humpday to all my friends. I hope you're enjoying a wonderful warm week.
"As those strong, powerful talons snatched me out of mid-bounce I wasn't too sure if I was saved or in a far worse predicament. Boy was I relieved when, once more safely on the ground I came face to face with none other then my own cousin Miss Chirps. I hugged her so hard she couldn't breath. Oh, how happy I was to be back among my friends. I ran to Calico and gave her a hug, then one by one to each of my rescuers.
"WOW, that was close" I said thankful to be on solid ground at long last. We gathered all the apples up into Sugar's Hello Kitty wagon for a long walk back down BC Hill.
"Thank you Miss Chirps. I thought maybe I'd be bouncing up and down forever."Little Angel giggled
"Maybe next time you want a juicy red apple, you can get Momma Deb to go to the super market and get you one?"
As we began our walk home I pulled out that wonderful, big, red, juicy,PERFECT apple. I rubbed it on my feathers until it glowed like a diamond in the sunlight. I smelled it's fresh, ripe scent and my mouth watered. Closing my eyes I took a GREYT, BIG bite of my apple.
UCKKKK, SSPPSIIUS,AHHHHH, GROSSSSSS." I took a look at my apple and therein the middle was BIG long, yucky worm looking up at me in disgust. Before I could say a word, the apple and worm disappeared. "What? Where did it go?"
Then I turned just in time to see Boo Boo finishing off the last bite of the apple.
"Thanks Little Angel, delicious worm!"
"Glad you liked it, I never did like to eat apples!"
Dixie and I walked together wing in wing. As we reached the bottom of BC Hill I saw a Pear Tree, and on that Pear Tree I saw, the BIGGEST, RIPEST, JUICIEST..." Dixie followed my gaze, "OHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOO, Little Angel, no more trees for you. Come on, let's go to my house every birdie" Dixie yells, " Momma Rose, and Momma Deb will help us to make apple pies. We can make some toffee apples too."
"Surely Little Angel you can't get into any mischief making pies and toffee apples" Snowy adds
"Little Angel?" Dixie says a worried look on his face, " please try not to get into any more mischief?!"with love and a vote

AH please help me get down from this tree
July 8th
Hi, Little Angel here with "THE REST OF THE STORY" I want to thank every bird for all their support, and encouragement. I'd give you all a hug, but right now I'm stuck up in the old apple tree at the top of BC Hill.
"Now, there I was snagged by my hoodie watching my friends below as Raffikki, Polly, Zippy and Cookie Stark arrive on their way to somewhere and joined the others looking up into the tree."
"HELP!!!!! Please get me down from here" I cried as I wiggled and jiggled in hopes of freeing myself from that old branch.
Maybe we can scare Little Angel out of the tree. I will Growl my loudest growl it will frighten that branch to lot go of Little Angel, and we can catch her as she falls to the ground" Raffikki says with seriousness written across his face.
"That's a long way up. Little Angel might get hurt when she falls from the tree" Cookie Stark says. Polly and Zippy nod their agreement. "We have to think of something else." The friends put their heads together to think.
"Whatcha doin?" asks a soft voice, startling every bird. "Why don't we try to climb up and break the branch that is holding Little Angel?" Chyna looks up into the dense leaves trying to see Little Angel.
"Who is going to climb, WAY UP THERE?" asks every birdie
As they discuss this question Sugar, comes along the path pulling her Hello Kitty wagon. Dixie, Gus, Chi Chi and Snowy are with her. The stop and look up into the tree.
"Please don't tell me that Little Angel is up in the tree?" Dixie asks already knowing it is true.
"HELLO DIXIE" come the voice from the top of the apple tree, "I'd give you a kiss sweetheart but I'm sorta busy, well ah stuck right now."
"OH NOOOOOO, not again Little Angel" Dixie looks worriedly into the tree trying to see where Little Angel is.
"I have an idea" says Gus. " We can go to Angel Bertie's Rainbow Gym and put the trampoline on Sugar's wagon and bring it here. Then we can shake the tree until Little Angel falls out and she'll land safely on the trampoline" Every birdie cheers at the plan. The boys head off to get the trampoline while the girls wait, talking to Little Angel to keep her calm while she waits...............
see you all tomorrow for the REST OF THE STORY,with hugs and love

  Hi Georgie
Spotlightlight on Caring--February 6th-Cappy
February 6th SPOTLIGHT on CARING-Cappy part 3
Hello BC friends, Sky here with the conclusion to our interview with my good friend Cappy & his Mom Terri. I wish to take this opportunity to THANK all our dear friends who have stopped by with condolences and floral gifts for our sweet fister RUBY, a Blue Crown Conure who left us last Thursday evening. Your love has helped us through this most difficult time. Now back to the "REST OF THE STORY"
SKY: tell us you did when your where faced with all these health issues on a newly adopted bird?
Terri: We did call the guy we bought him from to let him know that Cappy was very sick and the guy had the gall to ask me why I had taken him to the vet. He did offer to have us return him but I was already committed to Cappy and knew this guy would NOT do what was right by Cappy or his other birds. He wouldn’t entertain the idea of helping with the vet bill. I was so mad I ended up calling the Oklahoma City bird mart and sent out the alarm that I had purchased a very sick bird there. I believe they have since closed the Oklahoma City Bird Marts! I have tried to contact head office about this dealer but never got a response. I sent out the alarm also to local bird clubs that I found online. I was so upset that people out there don’t care one lick for the health and happiness of these beautiful creatures nor do they care about anything other than the almighty dollar. I suspect this dealer continues to sell sick birds but I have sent out messages to everyone I can think of to not buy from him.
Sky: can you give us a few ideas what other problems you then had to work through?
Terri: After Cappy became healthy he started attacking my husband at what seemed like every turn and he had melt down when Rudy would fly by him which resulted in bad bites to my husband. My husband has had his ears pierced twice, his nose pierced once, his eyebrow pierced once and his fingers pretty near shredded on numerous occasions. Please note that we do not generally allow him on the shoulder … he typically launches himself from the arm or lap to your face or just chews away at the fingers. As we watched and tried to figure out what caused these attacks we learned a few things.
Sky: please continue. I know we all are interested in your observations:
Terri: Cappy is a daddy’s boy, he is very attached to my husband and looks for and to him. Cappy had been known to attack women but I have been very lucky in that he hasn’t attacked or hurt me to the extent he has my husband. The old axiom of hurting the one you love the most seems to fit here

Come visit me, SKY, thank you for Jan 17th, 2016 BOTD & Little Angel.

2) Cappy didn’t like people talking with their hands (he would go into meltdown screaming and attack mode) – We are still working to de-sensitize him to moving hands … we suspect he has been hit in the past and that is the cause for his overreaction.I have tried to make a game with my hand movements so he understands that I am not going to hurt him and now he may even get a little playful with regards to hand movements. Playing peek-a-boo with larger hand movement is one method I have used
3)Cappy doesn’t like to be put in his cage – My husband would get bitten nightly at Cappy’s bedtime …. He just never wanted to be put to bed no matter what time it was. We have to towel him every night and put him in his cage inside the towel and then close the door and reach in and get the towel. That prevents Cappy from biting and he doesn’t get near as worked up about going to bed.
4) Cappy LOVES towels …. Strange as it seems he loves to be toweled and hugged and snuggled. When Cappy starts into a meltdown a towel can calm him down rather quickly, we just towel him, hug him and tell him he is ok and we love him and he settles down …. most of the time we can release him and he will remain calm but sometimes he may not and then we have to put him in his cage for timeout.
As we have learned and implemented the things above Cappy has become much calmer and the bites have subsided a lot …. We still have them now and then but they are not as intense and they are becoming less frequent. Another thing we have learned is that when he is in a meltdown we must remain calm and patient and to reduce our energy as well and that makes a huge difference in how Cappy responds to us.
SKY;Please tell us one or more things you feel are important to share with other bird owners?
Terri: Patience, Love, Understanding, the ability to put yourself in their feathers can go a long way to solving many problems. Bites can be the most difficult thing to endure, because as humans we do take it personally, and bites HURT. But we can learn to understand, respect and prevent future bites to a certain extent. Every bird has their own unique personality and as such they all present different body language that we as humans must learn to read and understand. It can be summed up in the words of my husband’s two co-workers. One said I had to be totally committed to the welfare of our birds and the other said I just needed to be totally committed. One thing that seemed to help my husband deal with Cappy’s biting is the way he viewed it. He used the analogy of getting a 4 year old human child that had been bounced around 4 or 5 different homes in a short period of time and how would that child react and how would you respond.
Sky: Cappy, Mom Terri thank you so much for this very informative interview. I hope we all can gain something from it.
with my heart filled with love,

  Hi Georgie
January 30th SPOTLIGHT on CARING-Cappy part 2
Hi every bird, SKY here with this weeks SPOTLIGHT on CARING Part 2 as we continue our interview with Cappy and his Mom Terri. I'd like to take a moment to ask for continued prayer for Ms Chirps -228922 Momma Rea who was taken to Hospital in Rochester, NY this afternoon. We hope to be able to update you asap. SKY; Please tell us the history of Cappy, and how & when he joined your flock:

Terry; We found Cappy at a bird mart in Oklahoma city while we were hunting for bird toys. A kid of about 8 was walking around with him and he was a snuggle bunny and just wanted to be held and to cuddle. My husband and I handled him and he was so lovable and kept telling us he was a good boy and a good bird. We handled him for about 2-3 hours, then we went to talk to the owner. This guy also had a poor Ekkie who looked horrible and you couldn’t even approach it … probably should have set alarm bells off in my head but I was more attuned to Captain who seemed healthy and happy. Cappy was being sold because he had a history of attacking women… from what we could understand Cappy went from original home, because of bad behavior/biting, and into a exotic sale in Tennessee where the dealer in Oklahoma picked him up for a quick resale. Our vet Tech was also at this particular bird mart and we showed her Cappy. We all felt he was in good health and his feathers looked pretty good other than an awful butcher job for a wing trim.

SKY: I understand that there were a number of very serious issues that came up once Cappy joined your flock. Can you elaborate?

TERRY; The first problem we noticed was within a day of purchase. Cappy was sitting at the bottom of cage and appeared ill so we got him to the vet ASAP. He tested positive for Chlamydia and PBFD. Immediately we removed Dory and Rudy from the home and sent them to a friend until we could figure things out with Cappy. Cappy underwent 10-11 weeks of antibiotic shots in his chest before he was cleared of the Chlamydia. After he was cleared of the Chlamydia we re-tested for PBFD and came back negative so finally after about 12 weeks he was pronounced healthy.
Sky; due to space limits by BC we shall conclude this interview next Wednesday. Thank you Cappy & Mom Terry for sharing your experiences with bringing a new bird into your flock!
with my heart filled with love.

  Hi Georgie
Hello, and Happy New Year to all my birdie friends and their parronts. Today, as promised I will continue part 2 of the interview with Tanya Stark and Joshua.
Sky: I understand that after Hurricane Katrina in 2008, you rescued a Cockatoo about to be evicted from it's home due to noise?
Joshua: Yes, Momma Tanya received a call from her Vet ( DR Karen Dashfield) about a large Cockatoo owned by an elderly lady that was making so much noise the owner faced eviction. So right after work Momma drove over to get it. She didn't even know what species it was until she got home. It was so dark in the apartment.
Sky: That was Doo Doo was it not?
Joshua: Yes but Momma and Dad changed it to DOO Diligence. He is Mom's lovable feather ball, and very sweet. Doo was wild caught too.
SKY: I understand that sadly an accident occurred in that same year?
Joshua: Yes, Elvis escaped from his cage when the food door port lock was accidiently left open. Momma went downstairs for only a minute and when she returned, Elvis had George by the throat. Momma tried CPD but George's neck was broken. She took it hard and blamed herself for a long time. She had researched inter-bird aggression but Elvis seemed to have it in for George from the start.
Sky: What did your Momma Tanya learn from all this?
Joshua: How to understand and read flock aggression and social behavior.
Sky: When did your fister Miranda join the flockily?
Joshua: In 2009, when Momma Tanya had Elvis on her shoulder at the Vets a lady asked her to take her. The owner raised Borzi dogs and she felt she needed a better quality of life. Miranda was Mom's dream bird but she chose our Dad Steve. She's a daddy's girl.
SKY: IS there any more you'd like to share with us Josh?
Joshua: A number of Cockatiels joined us as did a Goffin Cockatoo. The most upsetting rescue came about when Mom was told of a Conure whose male parront threatened to throw him against the wall. That's STARBUCK. HE is on BC with his new adoptive Mom Jeanne.
Sky: That leave you buddy. Tell us about yourself.
Joshua: I came to the Stark flock in September 2012 when my Mom couldn't keep me any longer. She wanted me to get more attention then she was able to offer. My name was CHICO but my new Dad thought JOSHUA, a good Bible name was more appropriate so here I am, Joshua Chico Stark.
SKY: Thank you very much Joshua and Momma Tanya for sharing with us the ups and downs of loving and rescuing birds in need.
Next Wednesday SPOTLIGHT on CARING features KIDDO and his Mom Pam
