Well he came to me a few weeks before Cookie left over the Rainbow Bridge with a large group of rescue cockatiels from an elderly owner who needed to go to a nursing home because she was no longer able to take care of herself, much less her birds. I was told he was a couple of years old and really sweet. He is Very sweet and doesn't bite. He's still just getting used to being here away from his other parrot and cockatiel friends that have been adopted out already. I decided to keep him because Buttercup because VERY fond of him especially after Cookie left us.. Awards

Welcome all you pilgrims and indians and little furry forest creatures. We are gathering this Saturday to give thanks for all the wonderful good times we have on BC and to share a meal together. And not just any meal. Each and every one of you will bring a dish that you find interesting, tasty or just plain fun for all to share. That's right, it is a pot luck just like that first Thanksgiving over 300 years ago. And any stories and interesting facts about your dish will be appreciated. If you hear about one that sounds really tasty to you, ask for the recipe and it will be posted on Hiccup's Cook Book Page (208790), so we can all try it at home. So be prepared to share those recipes, birdy buddies. Simple or fancy, all are to be enjoyed.

And as I am sure you are all aware there has been a pic and avatar contest going on all month. The actual voting began last Friday, and it will be cut off at noon Pacific time this Friday so we have time to tally the votes and set up awards for the winners. So if you haven't voted yet, get your tail feathers on over to the milonga page and vote for your favorites.

As usual our very own Milonga band, Sam and the Scruffy Birds, have some wonderful music planned for us, so YES!! there will be dancing. Since Lizzie has the night off from cooking, I bet she will really burn up the dance floor, hopefully just figuratively.

Everybirdy is invited whether they get an official invite in a blog, or just see it on the calendar page. So see all of you this Saturday night, for fine food, good fun and warm companionship as we celebrate the family we all share here on the BC.

  Hi Dread Pirate Roberts
Ha! You should see all the skin I just got off Mom's hand while she read my blogs. I love it when she's post-shower...nice soft skin!

The Moms like to take me with them in the car, and I like to go as long as it doesn't involve riding after dark..then I'm not so fond of it. Now the Moms put the vanity light on if it gets dark...then I don't mind so much. Of course, I always have to be in my carrier, so that's a drag, but they can skritchy me thru the bars, so it's not too awful!

Mom just came in from the yard. She's working on fall cleanup, which is pretty funny since she never finished spring clean up. She says there's so much thistle in one part of the garden, she just may have to kill everything and start from scratch in a couple of years!

  Hi Dread Pirate Roberts---
Boy, it has been a long time! I'd say that not much is new, but actually, since I squawked with you last, lots of things have happened. I went to the shore with the Moms for a few days, and got to go up in an old house that had a light house built into it, and to a bird observatory. They said they'd never seen a pet bird there---the Moms tried to get me a pair of binoculars, but they didn't have any that would fit me. That was a cool vacation.

This past weekend I went to Hershey to see Nonno. He's Mom's Dad. I landed on his head and walk around. Apparently that really freaked him out....he made Mom take me off right away!

But really, life goes on pretty much as normal...I sit in Mom's hand while she does her blogging, and she skritchies me with her thumb. Then I chew on her hand and she tells me no and I ignore her...It's a good life!

So how have things been with you and Buttercup? Everything cozy at your nest? Getting ready for the holidays? Deck the cage with boughs of raffia? Looking forward to hearing from you.

  Hi DPR--
Just checking in to make sure you got the word about the Milonga...if you can be there, even just to watch the goings on, it'll be a fun way to get to know some of the birdies here...when you go, the way to refresh your page without re entering your last comment over and over again (a mistake I made!) is to click on the milonga picture under "my Family Photos" in the middle of the page (not the one at the top). Hope to see you there!

Yes!! That Western shindig you all have been waiting for is finally here!!!

Date: Saturday, September 24th
Place: Dodge City (Milonga page #165848)

Come on over to Dodge City this weekend, and you are guaranteed plenty of excitement and thrills. The infamous outlaw Jenny Ringo is planning a jail break for her sweetie Alfie and his sidekick Mo. She and her gang will be facing the might of Marshalls Old Grizzly Kidd, Beauregard Earp and Simon Dillon. Plus Sheriff Indigo, and all the deputies: Kidd Stormy, Kaji, Lizzie and Cookie, and anybirdy else we sign up between now and then. Remember the shootout at the OK Corral? They were amateurs!!

We will also be asking for volunteers to form a posse to round up that mangy varmint who tried to frame our friend SamIAm for bank robbery, and who has ambushed him more than once since then (and ruined a perfectly fine hat!). We are going to bring in the weasel for sure....not that he is really a weasel. We think he is a magpie or a crow or maybe even a buzzard. We haven't gotten a good look at him yet.

After all that excitement, be sure to enjoy all the pleasures of Dodge City. The Long Perch Saloon hostessed by the lovely Miss Sweetie Pep will be serving food and drinks, dealing cards and offering an amazing display of can can dancing by the lovely Chi chi, our candidate for BOTM. For those of you with a darker side, Madame Maxie's Bordello is right over the tracks from there, but we won't discuss that here.

Enjoy a stroll thru this rustic western town, and then to top off the evening we will be announcing all the winners of the profile pic and avatar contest.

Now that is just an evening no birdy in his right mind could pass up, so if you don't make it I might just have to lock you up on suspicion of insanity!!

Mom says you sure are a wise guy for a lovie! She also says my inner dragon is's all she can do to get me to step up when she wants!

No, surely you know that this month's Milonga party will have a western theme and all the birdies are being encouraged to dress up and compete for prizes? I don't like to compete, but I like to dress up even tho Mom says it is a pain....

  Hiya Dread Pirate Buddy--
The good news is that hoomans take 9 MONTHS!!! before they hatch. Us birdies get back to normal in considerably less time. And Buttercup will be happy to have you help when feeding time comes around, believe you me!

Meanwhile, gotta find some cowboy duds and polish my boots!!

  Good Day Dread Pirate Roberts..
Sounds like your Mom has the calcium angle all covered! And you know birdie hormones are just as crazy as hooman hormones, if not more---so you can expect Princess Buttercup to be a tad crazy while she's playing Mom-to-be...I don't envy you-heh, heh, heh!

  Hello Dread Pirate Roberts--
So you are not going to be a daddy soon, anyway. That must be a relief. Guess Mommy will have to call the vet about the egg laying thing...I know there's all kinds of shots they can give to slow down egg laying, and there's stuff you can do with lighting to try to trick the hormones into thinking it's not breeding season, but I have no idea whether any of that works with lovies. Just make sure Buttercup gets plenty of calcium in the meantime!

I have 9 finches in my house with me--5 zebra finches and 4 society finches. The zebras lay all the time, and my Moms take the eggs out because the birds are all close relatives and the chicks they've had have had health problems and mostly not lived long. The society finches lay, but not in a nest...they let their eggs drop 3 feet and smash at the bottom of the cage. It's just as well, cuz they're kinda young, we think, and probably not ready to be parents anyway. Birdy birth control is a strange thing, isn't it?

  Hello Westly, Dread Pirate Roberts--
The Pirate Milonga was quite a success and my portrait won second place, so Mom says I have to wear it for a few more days, just to show how proud I am. She has some new pictures of me with my girlfriend, the keys, that she might post if she gets them on the 'puter.

I hear your Buttercup is sitting on eggs! Are they fertile? Will you be having Dread Piratelets soon?

  Hello Dread Pirate Roberts-
Ahoy there...I bring Rum as a peace are my hero, you know...That's how come I got named after you, but have no fear. It's only a temporary name until after the Milonga Saturday night...Then I go back to being plain old Tooth.

I see you have a beautiful girlfriend. She looks like my old pal Teacake who crossed the Rainbow bridge not long ago, leaving her Edla alone down in Florida. She felt that us yellow birdies ought to stick together, and I was quite fond of her.

Well, See you on the Pirate Pearl, I guess! Yo ho ho and all that! And watch out for that Inigo Montoya fellow...
